Sushiya is a much smaller sushi house compared to others in the area. It's family owned and you will always have the same sever and the same two sushi chefs. The consistency is what makes the sushi so good! However, because this place is a smaller restaurant, you will also have to wait a little longer than you may be used to. But the sushi is well worth the wait. Everything comes out fresh, the flavors between the various rolls are independent of one another and the portions are impressive! There's something on the menu for everyone. Sushiya is also a low key atmosphere. You can go out for girls night, or wear your sweats; everyone is welcome. We decided to go here on a bit of a whim since we aren't from the area. The food was sooooo good!!! It was a bit quiet in there which was surprising because the space was clean and well decorated, the food was fantastic, and the service good. The staff was kind too! I had the Jamestown roll which was genuinely one of the best sushi rolls I've had in a while. My boyfriend had the chicken hibachi which was a really nice portion size and was very flavorful. We had a great dinner here. We got the shumai as an appetizer and it was lite and delicious. We got 5 rolls: Kani roll, devils roll with jalapeño and sriracha, Spicy carb roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a spicy tuna toll. They were all fresh and super tasty. But nothing compared to the tempura ice cream. It was vanilla ice cream rolled in tempura batter and fried. It was a special but if you see it get it. First off: it has taken no less than five attempts to order takeout from Sushiya. No matter the time of day, the phone generally rings endlessly. Finally, I managed to speak to a human. She was very impatient on the phone, though she apologized profusely in person when I picked up my order. She was very kind and pleasant, in person, though it was one of the most rude phone conversations that I've ever had. The order was ... accurate? I think? It's hard to say. But I ended up paying about eight dollars more than I anticipated. I also ended up with more food than I anticipated, half of which wasn't to my liking, so I guess it was all a wash? The food was all a little disappointing. The teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef were just just grilled with a a little, tiny bit of sauce drizzled over them. All of the vegetables were overcooked. I loved this hidden gem. I yelped for a sushi place and found this cause of the great reviews. This is the kind of place that I love to find. It's nothing fancy at all but they have some amazing sushi and really creative plates. I loved the spicy Kani salad. Huge chunks of cucumber and perfect mix of ingredients. My oyster shooters with quail egg were very unique and I had never tried that before. My sashimi lunch combo was also very good. My friends chicken teriyaki was excellent and only $10.00. Disclaimer: I am not well versed in Japanese cuisine. But after my meal yesterday, I hope to change that. I had a bit of time to kill before the start of the concert at Williamsburg Community Chapel; plus I was hungry. I got some staples at Harris Teeter, then walked over to Sushiya. It was a little after five, and the dinner crowd had yet to arrive. I was seated at a 4-top and given water and a menu. The Steak & Scallop, $26.95, sounded yummy, so I asked what cut was the steak? New York Strip, but you can upgrade it to Filet Mignon. I ordered the New York Strip option, and started to order other things, but my server said that Soup, Salad, and Veggies are included. Cool. Bring it on! A minute later my Clear Soup came out, a savory broth with a few veggies. Quite good; I'll do that again. Next came my Salad. Lettuce, Tomato, Cukes, julienned Carrots and Bermuda Onion. Topped with House Sesame dressing. Super! Then then the entree, a dinner plate of seared Scallops, seared Steak, a scoop of Fried Rice, and a scoop of a vegetable medley comprising Broccoli and other items. And a scoop of noodles, Miso, I believe. It was all good, though I don't and didn't eat Broccoli. I ate until sated, then requested a box and dessert menu. There is no dessert menu, but my server recited several dishes, notably Tempura Ice Cream. I ordered that and boxed my leftovers. The dessert was presented quickly. While tasty, it was indistinguishable from "Fried Ice Cream" I've had in Mexican cantinas. Time to go. I requested the check and prepared myself for sticker shock. Pleasantly surprised when the check said $36.38. I left with a smile on my face. Sushiya will be a repeat. I interacted with 2 servers, both very pleasant. The best sushi and tempura restuarant around Williamsburg. Food is fresh and served very quick. The Hama Hama oysters shooters with Saki are delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive, dinning area is slightly upscale but family friendly, and you can watch the chefs prepare the food. Recommend the teriyaki salmon with Ichiban beer. Went there for the first time ever a couple of days ago. It wasn't busy at the time of service but when customers were coming in our waitress was nonexistent. For the price of the food you would expect 5 star service but unfortunately customer service was sub par. We had to get her attention multiple times for refills. I don't know if this is a usual thing for this establishment but beware you will pay good amount of money for the product and not receive any service there after that equates to what you pay for. The place was busy on a Friday night. People seem to like this place. The only waiter was also the host, and there was another lady who would bring out just the drinks and food. So they were understaffed. Not something they can control well. From the looks given of the other guests, I could tell some were getting a bit impatient. We got to town late because it was the weekend before thanksgiving and travel was horrendous. We walked in and the gentleman that met us let us know they would be closing soon and perhaps couldn't do sushi because of staffing. Well, the situation turned around somehow. That gentleman was the owner. He made recommendations (which were out of this world!!), was patient, kind and, as it turned out, his brother was cooking AND the sushi chef. Food was fast, delicious, the owner was easy to talk to and appreciative of our business. He even gave us feedback on other restaurants (so much of our usual teary haunts were closed down because of COVID and not being summer/early fall when you usually come to town). We wanted to go back one more time before we left Williamsburg, but it wasn't in the cards. When we return next year, it'll be where we eat a couple times during our stay. Had a sushi craving in Williamsburg and naturally turned to Yelp for help in picking a good spot. We were staying at a resort hotel on Ironbound Road and Sushiya scored points for both their good reviews and for being close to where we were staying. There seems to be a direct correlation between good sushi and bad strip malls - the dodgier the mall, the better the sushi in my experience! We were happy that the mall was a bit dodgy :) The atmosphere in the sushi house was nice, bright without being gaudy and super comfy chairs. No blasting AC either, thankfully. Our server was, in a word, intense. He was amped to serve everyone (he was the only server that evening) as quickly as possible, as well as seating everyone who came in. He earned his tips that night. My wife is a fan of the spicy, crunchy crab roll at Wasabi in Williamsville and she was hoping that they had something similar on the menu at Sushiya. They didn't have such a roll on the menu, but they did offer to make her a special roll to her specifications, which was a nice offer. She decided against a specialty roll, but did order a California roll, which was fresh and tasty. I had the Alaskan roll (salmon) and the Spicy Tuna roll, both were excellent. The fish was firm but not too firm, the spice on the tuna roll was just right. They were very refreshing (and filling) after our appetizer of steamed edamame. I could take or leave edamame, it doesn't add much to the meal for me, I usually order it because, aside from the salt, it is usually the healthiest appetizer on the menu. Prices are par for the course (relatively cheap) when it comes to strip mall sushi. Definitely check Sushiya out when you are in Williamsburg, you will not be disappointed! read more

I tried to grab the sharp object with my fingers, it didn't work. I tried using a dozen flossies, but they all ripped in half. After the panic set in, I asked my love to help meeeeeeee! With a flashlight and tweezers, he was able to remove the foreign object from my gums. I couldn't believe that it was a super hard piece of METAL! Y'all, I almost passed out. I called the restaurant and after many questions and 3rd party conversations, I was refunded for the cost of my purchase. In Williamsburg on business and wanted sushi so I went to Yelp (of course!) for recommendations and decided on Sushiya. I started with Hamachi Nigiri and it was some of the best I've ever had. Fresh tasting, generous portion of fish with just the right amount of properly cooked rice. I decided on two rolls; the Julia and the Hot Night rolls. Both were delicious and, again, generously portioned. Very good food at reasonable prices and my server, Zam, was very attentive. She's definitely an asset to her employer. I just moved into town from California. I was incredibly disappointed. I made reservations and when we arrived , a rude man asked what I was there for and I replied that I had a reservation for two. He was not friendly at all. Just threw dinner menus down on a table. I ordered a $22 350 ml cold sake and it came just slightly cool.
