So today when I was actually walking to a different restaurant for dinner, I was thinking that the Hyperion/Griffith Park area really needed some nice new sit down eateries. And, voila! Hyperion Social just appeared as I was passing by. It's in the old "The Friend" space next to Mi Corazon Restaurant, and has a really classy, but casual atmosphere. Isabel, the hostess/bartender greeted me at the door and invited me in to check out the place, and I liked the vibe so I decided to stay. I sat at the bar and ordered the yummy tacos and the chips and guac. Right now because of health issues I'm temporarily restricted from alcohol, but Isabel had a nice non alcoholic beer for me that was perfect. I met David the owner, really cool guy, and I had a lovely conversation with one of their friends at the bar. I felt very welcome and comfortable and it was very serendipitous that I found it. I'm looking forward to coming back during the week and taking advantage of their happy hour. And I'll be bringing some friends with me. I highly recommend this place Welcome to our Neighborhood, Hyperion Social!

So excited to have Hyperion Social in the neighborhood! Super friendly service, delicious food and cocktails. The vibe is really cute and they even have black and white movies projected on the wall!

    The wonderful crew

Happy to welcome a new (as of summer 2025) bar to the under-served Hyperion strip. Located where "The Friend" used to be, they have reorganized the interior, and feature a 4-7pm happy hour with $5 beers and discounted eats. They are dog friendly and extremely kind to my dog when I visit. I am definitely a regular here. Thank you Isabel, Kaia, the rest of the crew and a very special shout out to the amazing Gabe!

And it doesn't leave me wanting more. The presentation looks great for pictures but don't be fool. The food and drink is mediocre. Cheap alcohol was used that burns when swallowed, some drinks I couldn't finish it because it doesn't taste great. It was so hot and stuffy inside (when it's still April and cold outside). The ac should be turned on for air flow since it's such a small hole in the wall bar style sitting with very low ceiling. Hardly any room to walk when there's ppl sitting down on the stool. So the stuffiness and being hot made the experience even more unpleasant. On top of all that, the lady behind the counter was touching everything including the food with her bare hands. Not once did I see her wash it between preparing, servings and cleaning the counter. Plus, napkins wasn't given when needed. When asked, she handed one tiny thin small square napkin per person ‍. Sanitation and cleanliness for the food isn't all there for the $100 mandatory tips per person is ridiculous to me. Tips shouldn't be mandatory anywhere. Plus, even with the time of our reservation. The host, John, emailed us to change our time to a later schedule.. like from 6pm to 9pm. Are you kidding me? If we wanted that time slot then we would have picked it instead of making reservation at 6pm on a Thursday night. Overall, it's just a one time experience that doesn't make me go wow.. I wouldn't want to come back because the food and drinks pairing doesn't go well together. I had better.

Outdoor patio seating is great, and reminds of eating outdoors in a European cafe. Indoor seating is a little cramped if you're at one of the tables, which also sort of mimics European cafes. My one small knock on this restaurant is the service has been inconsistent. Couple times our waiter was great, but a couple times it was hard to flag them down, they didn't space out the dishes very well as the appetizers and entrees all came out the same time, or they forgot to bring water when we asked for it. Small things to complain about overall though.

Once we closed out our tabs, we were thanked for coming as we headed out into the night. Everything was chill and easy - thank you! PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance): I parked in the nearby original Glendale Galleria parking structure and simply walked over first to The Americana then to this place. Otherwise, there was limited parking along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and other surrounding side streets, the nearby Glendale Galleria II parking structure, The Americana parking structure that offered validation, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A dark cavernous speakeasy-like place with open space, various tables and couches strewn about, and a large long somewhat decorative bar with an impressive whiskey selection displayed behind it. I appreciated the exposed brick walls which gave it that old-time feel with a few framed pictures hung on them. Minimal natural lighting came through the front doors and windows while minimal electric ceiling lights filled in rest. There was at least one projection TV where we watched the Dodgers game while music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=SomLKsk1KVcemeOCHGOZfg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to slip into The Famous Bar for the first time in over a decade, and if I found myself spending time in downtown Glendale again, I'd consider another visit. Sadly, I try to avoid the highly congested area as much as possible. I loved the fact that they had a daily happy hour (4pm-7pm) and late-night SU-TH happy hours (10:30pm-close), so there was always a deal to be found. The drinks were the main reason you came, while the food was just an add-on. The prices were elevated, but you had a good menu selection of libations (nice local craft beer list) to choose from. The customer service was easy, friendly, and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $42.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

The only slight downside is its location right next to the train tracks , when a train passes, it creates quite a bit of noise, but it didn't ruin the lively vibe of our dinner. The Food The fusion Mediterranean menu has plenty of great options, and we definitely stuffed ourselves: House-Made Pita Bread: An absolute must-order. It comes out warm, fluffy, and fresh--we loved it so much we ended up eating five orders. Paired perfectly with the dips and cherry tomato spread. Whole Dorade: A major highlight of the table. Perfectly cooked fish served in a rich, savory cherry tomato sauce. Beef Shish Kabob: Incredibly tender, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. Grilled Octopus: Flavors and presentation were nice, though the texture was a bit tough and over-charred/grilled on our visit. Service & Final Thoughts The service was warm, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly all night. Aside from the train noise and the slightly overdone octopus, everything else hit the spot. Great food, great company, and we'll definitely be back for the fish and pita bread!

I have been to Momed a few times; this is my first review for the location. We came on a Sunday for brunch; our hostess sat us quickly in the surprisingly bare restaurant with several families filling the airy patio. The restaurant is remarkably open, family, and dog-friendly, with lots of space to wander. Welcoming us at the entrance was the chef's dog, Marshmallow, who sported a fluffy white coat and welcomed many pets and ear scratches. 5/5 service, Marshmallow! On seating we received a delicious appetizer gratis - a layered, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside bread with soft herbed butter and a raspberry sauce - which was delicious. Following was the Whipped Feta ($22) - a light, airy spreadable cheese elevated with sweet honey and cut by tart, blistered cherry tomatoes, served alongside home baked pita bread with a eminently fluffy interior. The curious patron can see the bread being freshly baked in a large open oven by the entrance. Following I had the Shakshuka ($25), a delectable dish of tart tomatoes and herbaceous red peppers, moderated by creamy feta and two rich, poached eggs, fresh from the oven in a cast iron skillet. As a typical carnivore who normally shies away from dishes featuring vegetables, I was surprised by how much I loved this; as a uniquely Maghrebi dish that's hard to find, I highly recommend anyone visiting Momed try the Shakshuka. My spouse got the Cleopatra salad ($23) which she is still raving about many hours later. Perfectly selected pieces of crisp butterleaf lettuce, sweet dates, creamy feta, crossed with crispy dukkah and a tarte sherry vinaigrette, all taste buds were engaged for a perfect salad. We concluded by sharing a chocolate mousse with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream ($14) which was as good as it sounds. The service was friendly and warm, with our waiter stopping by frequently to refill our waters on the blisteringly hot day, and accommodating our group's thirsty dog. Special credit should be given to Momed for maximizing the space they were working with. While situated in a flat neighborhood adjacent to light industry, complete with railroad tracks behind the restaurant, the interior is more Riad - a courtyard garden - with countless plants, lots of shade, and wicker furniture reminiscent of tropical plants and palms. Prices, above, are a little elevated but reasonable for the quality of the food provided. The Moroccan word for Paradise is "Al-Janna", which directly translates as "the Garden". By elevating the most modest parts of the garden - tomatoes, pepper, cheese, and bread - Momed offers unique, delectable food worthy of a garden paradise, and has my highest recommendation.
