Pretty solid spot for Mexican food. The outdoor seating is a little odd. They tried to sit us in a loan table next to the crossing pole away from the rest of the tables. If you do get seated outside service will be slower so be prepared to either everything at once or wait around for a waiter/waitress. Their drinks were pretty great! Last night, El Condor soared! *Insert any eagle-ish sound here*. When our original Mexican restaurant plans fell-through, (thx for randomly closing, Casita del Campo????) - my buddy Jim recommended EL CONDOR... a restaurant I technically had never been to, but a location I'd been to looooong ago, with large groups of friends. Before booking - and arriving, I was nervous: The IG page didn't post any food pics. The Yelp photos weren't the best. The Food photos looked very 2026 Marix, which isn't great. Something on IG mentioned it was closing soon. I was skeptical for this birthday dinner... But El Condor delivered one of the most fun, last minute birthday dinners I can remember! Food was really tasty. Presentation was great. Margaritas were PERFECT. Our Waitress was a DELIGHT. Addictive appetizer dips, like the Queso. Brisket Fajitas and tasty tacos. We were too full for the Churros, but hopefully next time. Cute, festive vibe - which has a lot to do with its location within 'Sunset Junction', but the spot itself, has character. I hope the rumors aren't true, that it's closing. Anyway, will have to make an effort to hit this spot up, more often, when I'm on the Eastside. I love El Condor when I saw the news that it would be closing soon, I literally teared up. Truly the best enchiladas in town. I love the black beans as well. The whole vibe at El Condor is a little chaotic, true fun, but it feels like home . It doesn't take itself too, seriously in a landscape of restaurants that are becoming increasingly pretentious. I went to El Condor once in 2014 and figured I'd be back, as I liked the place and lived in Los Feliz at the time. I moved away in 2016 and somehow another nine years passed, and I've finally accepted that I'm unlikely to go again. Hence this weird belated review, clearing El Condor out of my drafts. I do remember enjoying El Condor, where I met up with a friend for Friday night drinks. The space was comfortable and attractive, and I had two good cocktails. One was the Amor y Chiles, with blanco tequila, mezcal, Anchos Reyes liqueur, and lime juice; the other a Oaxacan Old Fashioned, with rye, mezcal, and Aperol. It looks like the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, at least, is still on the menu. I think the only reason I failed to Yelp this place at the time is that I didn't eat there, and assumed I would before long, allowing me to write about it in greater detail. So instead, here is my utterly useless review of El Condor, thrown together eleven years later from a different stage of life, using contemporaneous notes and a few glimmers of memory. There must be a lesson here, and maybe it's this: If you feel like a mezcal cocktail, don't wait. Time passes, and El Condor will serve you now. read more

This spot was aesthetically pleasing. Cute location, small corner and very lively. Service was great, server was attentive and we were able to be seated almost immediately. Food was pretty decent but i wish the menu had more options as the place is a little upscale with minimal variety. The drink was $19 (el pepino) and fajita was $24 but did come with a lot of food. I was actually able to take some to go. My favorite dish was the asada papas, it definitely was the spotlight. I think it's definitely more of a cute drink/ appetizer place! This experience was fine, but not good. Rounding down because there are many good Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood and this was crazy expensive for a flavorless dinner. The good: cheerful and hip decor and the scratch margarita. The bartender was really nice, too. The meh: The food lacked herbs and spices. The execution of the cooking was spot on... the recipes were the problem. We ordered the chicken fajitas, Baja fish taco plate, chips, salsa and guacamole. The prominent flavor was salt, and they provided tiny lemon wedges with the fish tacos... I could have used a plate of lemons or limes, some cumin possibly, other peppers, herbs, or garlic/onion? I'm an old white lady, and this food was too bland for me. I think we might have had a better experience if they seated us at one of many empty tables outside or on the main floor. Although we didn't have a reservation, they found us a table way upstairs by the restrooms, with no one else around, and when we left, there were still numerous tables sitting empty. Neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Felt like it has a lot of repeat business from the people who live in the area and can simply walk from their homes. Staff appeared to know customers who walked in. Everything we ordered was good. The mushroom taco could have used a fat in it or a creamy sauce, so we added a dollop of the guacamole we ordered. Chips were fresh. All of the items we tried were hot and fresh. Staff was kind. Atmosphere is casual. Street parking is difficult in this area, especially on weekends. Went for happy hour on a Thursday. Pretty hip spot, bartenders are attentive to your drink levels and ready to replace it with a new one if asked. Once our party grew over three we moved outside, also someone had a baby and no babies allowed at the bar! Outdoor seating is wonderful for people watching as they walk by and the temperature is really nice on a summer evening. Free refills on chips but not on the salsa. The guac was great, you can tell that real avocados were involved. The salsa is smooth for the most part with a little chunks of tomato in it, the slightly spicy kick to it was addictive. I had a classic margarita with a salt rim and was happy with the tart refreshing flavor. Great prices for LA just parking is a bit of a hassle and might have a couple hours free in surrounding streets. read more

First time at El Condor! I'm from Texas, where we have great Tex mex and chill joints like this make me so happy. This place has some great food! And we went on Margarita Monday - drinks for 8$! The shrimp quesadilla was super tasty, I could tell the quality of cheese was excellent. The chicharrones were crispy and flavorful, the aioli was a nice touch for dipping. Service was nice, host was adorable and very kind. Our server was great & not overwhelming or obsequious. I got the asada taco and chorizo taco for my main meal. I wouldn't recommend the chorizo taco - it was too greasy & too rich for me. I enjoy chorizo in a breakfast taco but not just a big blob in a tortilla.. the asada was nice. Ambiance is great for people watching and the location is my favorite too in Silverlake - lots to do after dinner, if you want to go to more bars or dessert. I'll come back! First and foremost our hostess was amazing. We walked in on a Friday night (after striking out at Bacari) looking for a little impromptu dinner. Immediately our hostess said we had 2 options: 1 inside with a time limit as the table was reserved for a reservation and another table outside under a heat lamp that would be really warm and no time limit. She said the magical words: "really warm!" So, outside we went, to a little table on Edgecliffe with some 'dinner and a show' vibes from watching everyone try to park/wait/pick up. Service was a little slow- guess because it's a busy Friday night- which made me even more glad we picked the table without a time limit! The order in which our food arrived was a little different.. we got our appetizer 20 minutes after being seated, entrees a literal 5 minutes later, and lukewarm (would have been sooner & hotter but the food runner went to the wrong table, back to kitchen, then back to us) and *then* we got our drinks. I can't remember the last time drinks came last? I wanted to switch out my wine but almost didn't bc it took so long to get there lol. My brisket quesadilla, which was server recommended, was underwhelming. Not only was it just a few pieces of meat in an overwhelming amount of cheese, there wasn't any discernible flavor. And there was corn? Very strange! The rice and beans weren't anything special (I devoured them bc they came first with the appetizer instead of my entree and I was hungry) and I won't be ordering them again. Lots of table space as well as standing space, and there was a DJ Nachos are a must-have here, and the chips and salsa were really yummy. The carnitas tacos are loaded up and were honestly worth it for $7.50/each, I got a classic margarita and it was perfect. Our server was super kind, gave great recs, and took great care of our table. Parking in the area is a bit challenging, but you'll always find something if you're willing to walk a bit ;) mainly meters or residential parking (be aware of parking restrictions) The food, drinks, and vibes are consistently good every time I come. Next thing I knew, I had a free IPA in my hand. Then another. And another. Six free IPAs later, my friend Benjamin was enjoying a Topo Chico hard seltzer, David was deep into a Golden State cider (which I also enjoyed), and I had found my new forever local. I will die here. Somewhere between drinks and conversation, Alexis told me the tragic tale of a friend who is full-blown Irish, and apparently, there's no hope for him. But nearing the end of the meal, my friend and I were rushed out. I had fajitas but my friend a smaller meal and he finished before me. We had only been there 45 minutes but 3 people, the server, the food runner and the hostess all tried to remove my plates before I finished. While I went to the restroom at the end of my eating, the hostess told my friend they needed our table and wanted to move us to the bar. I had a reservation and they put a placard on the table reserving it although plenty of tables were available. We showed up 20 minutes before our reservation. What if we had shown up on time? Would we have been rushed out faster? Not my fault you placed us at a table opposite the host stand that can be expanded into a larger table. They also charge $7 for chips & salsa the vast majority of Mexican restaurants give complementary. FIRST TIME HERE. WILL NEVER RETURN. read more

It's hard for El Condor to stick out because LA is such a good Mexican food city and it just really doesn't fit the bill. It's not bad but it's expensive when most Mexican restaurants in the city are questionably low priced. Where El Condor does pack a punch is in drinks. My absolute favorite spot on the Eastside, and my favorite Mexican Restaurant in LA. What sets this spot apart from the others isn't just the amazing food in a hip and relaxed environment, but the phenomenal service and the manager Alexis that takes the time to get to know the regulars by name, and always greets you with great energy and a warm smile (pre-covid, but I know she's smiling under there) I've got to admit, I'm a sucker for a great Happy Hour and at one point was coming here every Monday for a Margarita and some eats for about 4 or 5 months and never wanted to leave. I'm a 15 minute walk and this definitely has a "Cheers" vibe when you're at the bar. You start to see some of the same friendly regulars that also frequent a lot (we're obsessed with El Condor, ok?!) Let's talk food though: Margarita - 5 stars. I did a Marg Crawl of The Eastside and this won for best Marg. I get a classic on the rocks, add a splash of sparkling water to it and it's my favorite marg ever. Also LOVE the Skinny Marg here, it doesn't taste like just tequila & lime (which is technically NOT a margarita), it tastes like a margarita that's a bit less sweet. Queso Dip - 5 Stars. My obsession! I love queso but most spots do it wrong and the cheese is too sticky. This is a dippable (we're making this a new word today) queso that is complemented perfectly with fresh tortilla chips. (I get this every time) Guacamole - 5 stars. Perfect texture and taste, always so fresh! Chips & Salsa - 5 Stars. I would never usually order just chips & salsa, but the red salsa here is out of this world and the chips always arrive warm here. Another dippable moment. (You get it, I'm a dipper) Elote - 5 Stars. Perfect here! Simple and classic, and you know I'm going ask for more tortillas chips to dip. Kale - 4 1/2 Stars. I admit, I hate Kale but it's LA and sometime you just need to have a salad. Their take on it is the best I've ever enjoyed it with little pepitas and a light cheese. (Must have been during my Keto moment) Cheese & Chicken Quesadilla - 5 stars for both! Sometimes I just like it plain with cheese and use as a dipping vessel w guac, and the texture and crunch of this tortilla is so good. The chicken is amazing too! I hear the brisket is phenomenal, haven't tried it yet though. Potato Taco - 5 Stars. I looove potato tacos (and taquitos, hint) and their version is delicious. The pickled onion gives it balance and this goes great with the red salsa. Chicken Taco - 5 Stars. This is on a soft tortilla with a light swipe of guac and a pickled onion that just works, and definitely use some of that red salsa here too. (Honorable mention to a Beef Crispy Taco I had here once 3 or 4 years ago on a Taco Tuesday. I still dream of that taco) Awesome selection of Tequila and Mezcal here. Ask Alexis or Josh, they know their tequila well. The space itself is bright and airy, and offers an indoor and outdoor area, and a really cute front patio which is great for people watching. He was setting up outside, I couldn't even finish my question and he abruptly said I don't know, without me even finishing what I was gonna ask. About 45 minutes later, he comes back to me and says "hey girl what were you asking me? I was trying to set up earlier" I told him no it's okay you were rude and he said "oh well I didn't know you were so clueless" (I guess when a person asks a question that means they're clueless) so since he said that and was being rude again! I told him that he didn't have to be a dick. He thinks because he was setting up it gives him the right to be rude to someone because he's so so busy. He even told me and my husband just to "keep looking hideous" and he walked away. I never heard of a person working at a restaurant treating a potential customer that way. I asked for any kind of sauce and he brought out an avocado sauce that was also uninspiring. My friend got quesadillas and he was not very pleased either. The energy that's exhibited from this restaurant's incredible. The ambiance is magnificent; a superb Mexican hacienda-like display with decent food (the chips and salsa are some of the best I've had). Their bartenders (John, Adam and Steve) are the sharpest cats that I've seen in the bar industry. A michelada (has to be made by Adam) and three Bohemias in, I think it's time to ride off into the sunset. read more
