    El pepino and passionfruit margarita
    Bianca G.

This spot was aesthetically pleasing. Cute location, small corner and very lively. Service was great, server was attentive and we were able to be seated almost immediately. Food was pretty decent but i wish the menu had more options as the place is a little upscale with minimal variety. The drink was $19 (el pepino) and fajita was $24 but did come with a lot of food. I was actually able to take some to go. My favorite dish was the asada papas, it definitely was the spotlight. I think it's definitely more of a cute drink/ appetizer place! But if you go try the asada papas.

Neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Felt like it has a lot of repeat business from the people who live in the area and can simply walk from their homes. Staff appeared to know customers who walked in. Everything we ordered was good. The mushroom taco could have used a fat in it or a creamy sauce, so we added a dollop of the guacamole we ordered. Chips were fresh. All of the items we tried were hot and fresh. Staff was kind. Atmosphere is casual. Street parking is difficult in this area, especially on weekends. We parked several blocks down and walked back up Sunset. Definitely will go back.

Went for happy hour on a Thursday. Pretty hip spot, bartenders are attentive to your drink levels and ready to replace it with a new one if asked. Once our party grew over three we moved outside, also someone had a baby and no babies allowed at the bar! Outdoor seating is wonderful for people watching as they walk by and the temperature is really nice on a summer evening. Free refills on chips but not on the salsa. The guac was great, you can tell that real avocados were involved. The salsa is smooth for the most part with a little chunks of tomato in it, the slightly spicy kick to it was addictive. I had a classic margarita with a salt rim and was happy with the tart refreshing flavor. Great prices for LA just parking is a bit of a hassle and might have a couple hours free in surrounding streets.

Bowl of Chicharrones and shrimp quesadilla

First time at El Condor! I'm from Texas, where we have great Tex mex and chill joints like this make me so happy. This place has some great food! And we went on Margarita Monday - drinks for 8$! The shrimp quesadilla was super tasty, I could tell the quality of cheese was excellent. The chicharrones were crispy and flavorful, the aioli was a nice touch for dipping. Service was nice, host was adorable and very kind. Our server was great & not overwhelming or obsequious. I got the asada taco and chorizo taco for my main meal. I wouldn't recommend the chorizo taco - it was too greasy & too rich for me. I enjoy chorizo in a breakfast taco but not just a big blob in a tortilla.. the asada was nice. Ambiance is great for people watching and the location is my favorite too in Silverlake - lots to do after dinner, if you want to go to more bars or dessert. I'll come back! Thanks for the good vibes :)

First and foremost our hostess was amazing. We walked in on a Friday night (after striking out at Bacari) looking for a little impromptu dinner. Immediately our hostess said we had 2 options: 1 inside with a time limit as the table was reserved for a reservation and another table outside under a heat lamp that would be really warm and no time limit. She said the magical words: "really warm!" So, outside we went, to a little table on Edgecliffe with some 'dinner and a show' vibes from watching everyone try to park/wait/pick up. Service was a little slow- guess because it's a busy Friday night- which made me even more glad we picked the table without a time limit! The order in which our food arrived was a little different.. we got our appetizer 20 minutes after being seated, entrees a literal 5 minutes later, and lukewarm (would have been sooner & hotter but the food runner went to the wrong table, back to kitchen, then back to us) and *then* we got our drinks. I can't remember the last time drinks came last? I wanted to switch out my wine but almost didn't bc it took so long to get there lol. My brisket quesadilla, which was server recommended, was underwhelming. Not only was it just a few pieces of meat in an overwhelming amount of cheese, there wasn't any discernible flavor. And there was corn? Very strange! The rice and beans weren't anything special (I devoured them bc they came first with the appetizer instead of my entree and I was hungry) and I won't be ordering them again. In fact, I'd only come again for a glass of wine and more chicharrones. Those were actually delicious, well portioned & seasoned.

The vibe here is great, but the service was a little wonky. I think our server was high and forgot to put in our food. It took us an hour to get our food but once the food came out, it was great. I had the asada quesadilla and the classic margarita, but made it spicy, it was perfect. It is small in there so we had made a reservation for dinner, but we were able to make a reservation the same day.

Great place to eat and drink. Exceptional customer service from the Hostess, Servers and Bartenders. Even their customers are super friendly. If you're looking for good food, drinks in Silver Lake you must try this place. You will be looking forward to come back!

I went here with one of my friends! It's located in a great neighborhood and the food was good!! I got chicken enchiladas with the green sauce and a lemonade drink. The food was tasty and full of flavor. My friend got the taco plate and we shared some chips with salsa. The price was a bit pricey though. We sat outside and they were quick to serve us. We stayed there for a few hours to catch up and chat and we left when we saw a spider crawling up on the wall behind us!

    Havin a great time!

El Condor: My New Forever Local I was at home, questioning my entire life direction, when I decided to take a walk--just aimless wandering down Sunset Boulevard. Some friends were out, but one was stuck on an awkward date, so I was flying solo. Then, through the haze of my existential pondering, I saw it: a warm, candle-lit glow, earthy browns, a lively bar, good music. Something about it felt right. I poked my head through the curtain, and that's when I met the vision that is Alexis. "Happy St. Patrick's Day!" she said, instantly welcoming me into the fold. Next thing I knew, I had a free IPA in my hand. Then another. And another. Six free IPAs later, my friend Benjamin was enjoying a Topo Chico hard seltzer, David was deep into a Golden State cider (which I also enjoyed), and I had found my new forever local. I will die here. Somewhere between drinks and conversation, Alexis told me the tragic tale of a friend who is full-blown Irish, and apparently, there's no hope for him. Still, we all came together over a drink, proving that even the most lost souls can find solace at the right bar. It's like Cheers, but for people who aren't old and suicidal. And honestly, I might order some food now because this place just feels right.

We waited nearly 20 minutes to be seated and another 20-30 minutes before anyone took our order. I understand that restaurants get busy, and we were trying to be patient because we could see the staff was overwhelmed. When we finally got our beer, I told our server, Noah, that I could pour it myself if that would help. Instead of explaining the situation politely, he responded with attitude and said, "You know I can't serve you guys, right?" I apologized, but then he told us, "Nah, you guys have to leave." This was frustrating after waiting so long just to place an order. We were never rude or disrespectful to the staff, so the interaction felt unprofessional and unnecessary. I completely understand being busy, but customer service should still be respectful. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression despite the great welcome we received from Nate.

To end the night before we headed off to dinner, we stopped by The Semi- Tropic bar for drinks. The parking situation was difficult to say the least-- there is no street parking or parking lot. And the neighborhood behind the bar is filled with park cars. We were lucky and parked at a parking lot that was for the surrounding business (so sorry to the pizza/ weed shop!). We arrived at around 6:30 PM so it wasn't too busy. We were greeted by one of the servers and she gave us options to either sit at a lounge table area or hightop tables. We opted for the hightop tables because we knew we weren't staying there for long. The server was friendly and patient as we looked over the menu for drinks. I've been sober for about a year so I only had water, my boyfriend ordered a Naoshima Dream, his cousin ordered a Mango Cart, and his cousin's girlfriend ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. The bar was super cute and hipster! I honestly would have loved going to this bar back when I used to drink. It's dimly lit, had a vintage 20's speakeasy feel to it and the music was a vibe. I'd recommend coming here for a little date with your partner or even coming with a group of friends. My boyfriend had been here once before and he said the food was really good and affordable. He had a panini and said for bar food it was a 10/10. We waited maybe like 10 minutes for our drinks to come, we were having such a fun time chatting and enjoying the environment that it didn't feel long at all. My boyfriend, his cousin, and his cousin's girlfriend really enjoyed their drinks. They said the drinks tasted "light" insinuating that there was barely any alcohol in it. Don't let the taste fool you, after finishing half of their drink there were full of smiles, giggles, and had a great buzz going. The prices here were all pretty fair for the cost and quality of the drinks. Would defintely recommend coming here for drinks and dinner for a date night or a night out with friends!

We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.
