I live pretty close by and love the cute location. I was excited to try this place bc of yelp. I blindly ordered the lavender coffee seeing a yummy pic.. but it must have been the grossest coffee I've ever had. Barely any hint of lavender and it tasted burnt. I rarely drink coffee so it may just be for coffee addict taste buds. But I couldn't even finish a quarter of the 16 oz even though I need it to study (probably the only time I drink coffee is during exam week). 2 stars because customer service was good and I'm willing to try other things off their menu. Maybe the white choc mocha or snickerdoodle, even green tea latte. No line especially compared to Starbucks! Only 2 parties there when I came in. So I'm down to come here to study if I like their other items. (Wi-fi with minimum purchase of $3). Hopefully I can write a better review next time. read more

Small indoor and unwelcoming outdoor as it is only a tent-like shade and some tables and chairs with rough cement concrete floors that do not give a clean feel or look. No (or minimal?) touch of decor on the place, just plain functionality. Ambience and lighting is somewhat dark and gloomy, maybe the dark red wall color? Had an iced mocha, taste was ok, nothing special. Wifi works great, limited outlets on some couple tables. No natural lighting nor was there bright lighting. Outdoor seating is some tables places on sidewalk close to parked cars. The umbrellas did not do much in providing adequate shade from the sweltering noon heat that I noticed when I was there. Located near a grammar school, we were surprised to see the entire café almost empty. Service was very friendly. Plenty of parking nearby. I had a Soy Cappuccino- tasty hot coffee, foam was average, granted it was soy. It paired well with the fresh red velvet cupcake. Nice little independent coffee shop. I stopped in on my way to work this morning. (Working Saturdays makes me drag a little extra in the AM.) I ordered a "Full Moon": three shots of espresso with steamed half and half, vanilla and honey. Hey! That was one tasty hot beverage! Really good coffee! I'll be hitting this place again--whenever I need a caffeine infused pick-me-up. I noticed that they also have free wi-fi. Best ever for my ultra low carb breakfast! Had a "chocolate latte" with unsweetened cocoa powder and unsweetened almond milk (most places only have sweetened). Truly rich and delicious and for my taste- no need for Splenda. Also, a very tasty, good sized, and beautiful Caprese Salad with hot grilled chicken. I'll be set for hours! Warm, friendly, prompt service. Ample, free street parking. Place is small/med sized, with a comfortable, mellow vibe. Plus, a shaded patio with picnic tables (no heat lamps) that is nice enough. Came here today for the first time in a couple months, but I was so satisfied with the service and my drinks that I had to update my review :) Helen, the owner, is a really sweet woman! Since I didn't want Starbucks or any other chain, I found the closest small business to where I was staying for my daily caffeine fix. The low score on Yelp didn't deter me, I wanted to know for myself and believe I can honestly say that the less than stellar reviews prolly don't have much to do with the offerings as it does other things... I ordered the full moon and because I had been warned that all their drinks tended to be overly sweet, I asked for mine to be less sweet. She made the drink quickly but didn't offer much as to friendly conversation or explaining the drink. I'm guessing I may have made a fatal error because when I got it, there was no sweetness and I couldn't even tell if there was honey in it or not. :( it was still good but not earth shattering. Things I didn't like... They have a minimum $10 sale in order to use a credit card or if you are cashless as I was, then I was charged an extra .40 cents! What!?! In this day and age? In the middle of shop lined street? That's just a bit ludacris in my opinion, especially with things like PayPal, square, and other cheaper conversions for cash registers. I dunno, this was just a huge turnoff for me as there are plenty of other options and competition. All in all bring cash and like sweet. read more

I grew up near this quaint, little coffee shop. It's funny because Hyper coffee never quite seemed to fit with the feeling I got from this place, but it's still a great coffee spot. I love how it's right across the street from a used bookstore. In the fall with the streets covered in golden-brown leaves, it's peaceful to sit on the patio and read. They have an interesting collection of knickknacks on sale. Finally, I love their frozen coffee drinks. They ALWAYS come with those wafer cookie things and just make my day. I'm so glad I checked this place out. GREAT local hole-in-the-wall coffee shop with ample seating inside and out, substantial menu with reasonable prices, and excellent, super friendly service. This place has reallllly delicious sandwiches! My favorite: chicken pesto panini. Second favorite: curry chicken sandwich. Third favorite: tuna sandwich &/or panini. Favorite drinks: 1) Apple smoothie 2) Strawberry Banana smoothie 3) Hot chocolate Pros: - Their chocolate brownies are really delicious & gigantic. - Each sandwich comes with a salad with delicious dressing. - They have happy hour (buy one, get one free) smoothie (which are really good) drinks during the day, I believe around 3PM, but i'm not 100% sure on the time. - Their hot chocolate is really tasty. I yelped and I saw Hyper Coffee bear by ...all I am going to say is I literally walked in and walked out. I'm giving four stars for the good coffee with cheap refills (75 cents for a refill of iced coffee) and the ambiance most of the time. However, as I sit here at 3 pm, I am assaulted by kids screaming, running, and playing what I believe is a trombone. The nice guy at the counter says it happens every day, the kids from the local school come by and take the place over. So, I say to you--come and study, chill, talk at any time of day except 2:30-330 on weekdays. At that time it is a zoo. Really, really obnoxious. And to the owners: hey, I understand that you don't want to alienate the paying customer kids. But you do not have to tolerate the level of insanity from them. They should not be allowed to scream, run, and bother the other customers. I watched several people leave because of the mayhem. I like you guys a lot. But please, demand a level of decorum somewhat above a school cafeteria. read more

I came here to meet a friend for coffee last Thursday, and what did I see on their menu? Crème brulee latte! Crème brulee is my ultimate favourite dessert, so I excitedly ordered the latte. And then I got it. And I was disappointed. First off, they told me I would get it in a mug since I was staying inside. Nope. No mug. Fine, whatever. I didn't really care. And then I tried it. Wow. Did not taste like crème brulee AT ALL. Did not taste like anything, really. I ended up taking it home with me and my mum ended up trying it. She told me to throw it away immediately because it was disgusting. Yep. That was my experience at Hyper Coffee. The reason why I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because: 1. The parking was good. Although, in Arcadia, where is the parking ever bad? (compared to LA) 2. Everyone on Yelp seems to love them, and I haven't tried any of their other menu items, so I don't want to cross them off completely. As i wasn't able to make that U turn to Taza, and got to my appointment early, i then found this local coffee shop withing 5 mins walking distance from where i was at which holds 3.5 star rating on yelp.... and question, so, is this a coffee shop, or a zoo? Shoulder bumping, table slapping, yelling and Justin Bieber talking... Definitely not a place to come around this time... (right after school hour, 3:00) No caffeine for under age please. Oh well it's called the "Hyper" coffee after all. But to be fair, this is a friendly neighborhood coffee shop with decent coffee. Other than the part i mentioned above(kids), this place has a quite cute outdoor sitting patio with picnic tables which can be really relaxing hideaway from a busy day. Came here at around 4:20pm today (Monday). There seemed to be plenty of space to sit around. The place had 2-3 people sitting in front of the store, one person inside, and one in the back patio (smoking). It would have been nice to sit out back, but we're not smokers. Too bad. It kinda has this sort of "secret garden" vibe in the mist of suburbia. I ordered a Strawberry Bomb Fruit Smoothie. It's equivalent would be that of a Slurpee than a traditional smoothie. It was just a bit sweeter than my liking, though perhaps that's why it's called a "Strawberry Bomb." As Stephen Colbert once said, "We must never forget the events of 7-Eleven." Priced more expensive ($3.75) and smaller (16oz.) than their icy counterpart, but probably guaranteed a better icy consistency, made after you order rather than rolling around in a machine. It was just okay. Might be a cool place to hang out and surf the web. Wasn't crowded and loud like other coffee shops. Parking doesn't look to be an issue, though I wonder if traffic may be an issue as it's right next to 1st Ave Middle School, though I've not witnessed any problems on that firsthand. read more

Although I believe that their coffee is just alright, I have to give them an extra star for their service. The owner and her staff are all very kind and often quite attentive to customers. I had ordered an iced drink, received it hot, but was debating whether or not to actually say anything. But without even mentioning anything, the owner came to me to check in to see if there was anything wrong. I mentioned that I ordered it iced, and she immediately went to fix the issue without charge. That was amazing! I've come here multiple times, ordered from a range of a dirty chai to their hazelnut latte, but every time their coffee hasn't been stand out. But definitely enjoy the quiet space and especially the little outdoor area behind the store. A nice area to have a morning breakfast or little catch-up with friends! read more

This place is not a bad place to get work done or have a nice meeting with a friend or partner. The coffee here is not the best but this place seems to aim to be a nice spot in between shifts to talk or have a nice break rather than a great cup of coffee. The business looks like it's mostly profiting off people in the community. Nice steady traffic coming in and out of the store and a great and quiet place to be absorbed in your work. Hyper coffee was always just down the street. I've been here before--a good three years ago--but for some odd reason never desired to come back. This winter break is officially my MCATs cramming session, though actually more of an excuse to go coffee shop exploring, and FINALLY, I've decided to come back to hypercoffee to catch up on the caffeine and some mcats physics. I was stunned at how quaint, quirky, comforting, and spacious the place was! It's clean and you don't feel bothered or uncomfortable sitting around for a few hours studying or reading your otherwise uneventful break-hours away! I'm also a huge fan of their backyard patio that is usually unoccupied, especially when I want some natural sunlight, chirping birds, and space away from the chatter of customers inside the shop. Did I mention that they play some really tasty music? Think Early Jazz, Big Band, Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton...now that calls for extra brownie points from me. They have a great selection of food, ranging from bagel sandwiches to paninis to blended smoothies to americanos...the menus is practically overfilling with their huge selections. And the food is actually good. I couldn't help but wish for more of my Chicken Cordon Bleu Panini after I practically licked off every crumb off the plate. Coffee wise--I've only gotten a regular cup of joe--slightly disappointing in that it was not strong enough (almost tasted watered down). Hopefully when I come back sometime this week the other drinks won't disappoint. Tips? -Park in the back lot if you plan on staying past 2 hours and don't intend on collecting a parking ticket on your way out. -When I was there they had some sort of lunch special sandwich--a choice of one of two paninis, chips or salad, and iced tea for either 6.99 or 5.99 depending on the sandwich. I heart hyper coffee! Such a comfy place to study or just hangout with friends. When I lived nearby I used to come here all the time. I've spent uncountable hours reading books or surfing the web at this place. I love their yummy drinks and delicious pastries. The owner, which is a middle age lady is really nice. I never asked her name, but she seemed super friendly. Most of her customer seemed to know her. My favorite thing beside their coffee (of course!) is their chai latte and hot chocolate. They also have good variety of non-coffee items such as smoothies and teas. Do bring a sweater if you come here on a chilly day though. The front and back door are always open so it might gets kinda cold inside depending on the weather. One last thing! This place doesn't accept credit card. So make sure you have some cash with you before coming here. read more

My first ever review while I am actually sitting in the place. Having my motorcycle worked on down the street and wanted something different than the Starbucks around the corner. Went for a walk and found this charming little coffee shop and cafe. Nice intimate tables out front with wicker chairs, and what looks to be a nice area out back which may as well be your own backyard with its cozy bench and tables set up on real grass. The french roast coffee I had was good, and people are coming and going. Best of all the friendly young women behind the counter seem very happy to be here and know what "the regulars" want as soon as they walk in the door. They give service with a smile and wait on you at your table. Inside seems cozy but is a big enough space with plenty of tables and chairs, and space between them for some privacy while you chat. The counter area is well laid out, nice large menu of food and drinks above, and perhaps best of all, the place is super clean and tidy. Will most definitely be returning. Unfortunately it may be a half hour from now as I do not expect my bike to be ready before noon. But at least I won't be waiting at just another Starbucks. I like it here quite a lot. read more

Used to frequent this place back when I was in middle school though I don't go here as much anymore. First, they have happy hour on their drinks from 2-5PM, and it helps reduce the cost by a lot. Secondly, while I like this place, it is really expensive considering its proximity to the middle school. Not to mention that the portions aren't really that large but closer to a 6" equivalent. Basically, my only complaints is the price, it is pretty expensive and if I didn't have a piece of plastic stuck somewhere in there I'd break my weekly allowance. Don't come here during after school hours -- you'll need a bulldozer to cut through the mob of middle schoolers. I haven't been back to Hyper Coffee until recently. Two, three years ago, this place used to be my haven. I'm glad to see that, as far as setting goes, not much of it has changed. Pros: - The Italian Panini is still oh-so-good, and the provolone cheese welded to the toasted bread creates a perfect, creamy texture that contrasts nicely with the savoriness of the meat. This time around though, (and maybe it was just my serving) I didn't get a lot of meat in mine. I do remember them being more generous in the past... - White Mocha = YUM! Definite must-try - Coffee Toffee is also delicious, but I can imagine it being too sweet for some people. - Usually NOT crowded. For some reason, whenever I sit-in, there always seems to be a web designer helping a business owner with his/her website. Maybe Hyper Coffee is to web designers as Starbucks is to screenwriters? (haha) Not a big deal, except they're sometimes a little loud. ---- Cons: - Wi-fi can be unreliable. I told them that the wi-fi wasn't letting me in, and the owner said, "No, it's working on my laptop."
