We finally stopped by the bakery in Duarte to sample their signature beverage and pan dulce. Their cafe de olla, was served hot, a nice blend of cinnamon and sweetness. We bought an elote, tortuga and can't recall the third piece of pan, and alfajores. The elote was delicious, I love that you can see little specs of cinnamon, soft and tender and vanilla scent. The tortuga was a bit more spongy, fragrant, and nice balanced of sweetness. The alfajores were buttery, crisp and smeared with dulce de leche. I needed a bday cake and decided to order the strawberry shortcake, because it looked so pretty. The cake was a hit with the family. The frosting was super light, the filling is one layer of custard and the other of light whipped cream and berries. The sponge is moist, the cake is not sweet, but decadent in its creamy texture. Cafe De Olla Bakery is conveniently located next to Club Pilates, my workout spot. While I am very happy about this (I love Cafe de Olla in Monrovia), getting coffee and a pastry post-workout might very well become my routine if I don't exercise enough self-control! Like some of the reviews already mentioned, this location is more of a "grab and go" type of place. They have a solid selection of cakes, pastries, and drinks. If you are looking for their full breakfast menu, the Monrovia location down the street is where you would want to go! When I visited, they were celebrating their 1-year anniversary with an outside table of samplers. They had a balloon arch outside to signal to the community that they are celebrating something special as well. The lady out front shared with me what they had to offer, and she also mentioned that they do catering! I like my coffee strong but also on the sweet side. When I asked for the stronger option, I was recommended to get the cappucino rather than the latte and they can make the caffeine a little bit more concentrated without sacrificing the flavor. The cookies were a little dry for my taste but maybe it was because the samplers were sitting outside for a little too long. I would go back just to try the breakfast sandwich, but the experience of grabbing food was pretty fast and the food was flavorful enough! Had a good experience at Cafe De Olla Bakery. The food was good and flavorful especially the chilaquiles, which were perfectly sauced and topped with eggs cooked just right. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. The crunch factor on these were to my liking :) The breakfast plate with machaca was also good, and the desserts were good. The flan was smooth and rich, and the cake was light and not overly sweet. The pastry cart was such a fun touch and really added to the overall experience just wish it would have come out sooner instead of us having to wait another 10 minutes for our pastries. The only downside was with the coffee service. What we ordered at the bar wasn't consistent with what we were brought during refills, and we had already paid for our mugs upfront. Unfortunately, the waitress tried to charge us again without asking, which was a bit frustrating.m because we had to wait for her to correct it and we were trying to leave. Absolutely can't believe that my waistline is going to increase now that it'll be so convenient for me to go grab a slice of their delicious Matilda Chocolate Cake. SCORE! This location is more of a "grab and go" type of place for coffee and pastries. It is unlike their Monrovia location where it is a sit-down establishment with a full food and beverage menu, so do expect cozy and cute, not a dine-in place to bring your date. I did felt a tad awkward when I walked in at first because the gentleman behind the counter probably thought I was weird in there snapping photos, so he did looked at me kind of funny. But after letting him know I was there for the first time since finding out on Yelp of this second location, he made small talk and was super friendly. Where do I begin !?!? Cafe de olla exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly and our waiter hector was very hospitable. The ambiance easily takes me back to a family owned Mexico City restaurant. The pan dulce is made in house which is good so you know they don't put out bread from the day before. You can see that this place is ran very well and professional. I got a cafe de olla (no pun intended) and it was one of the best cafe de olla's I've ever had, if not the best. It was sweet and you were able to taste the cinnamon. The Sinaloa combination really surprised me. In my house hold we fry the tamale and not a lot of people do that. So when I saw my plate with 2 fried tamales, I had a huge smile on my face. Very nostalgic feeling. The beans were ok, but nothing bad. Tasted like typical refried beans. The chilaquiles were the star of the plate. The salsa verde had lots of flavor and tasted like chilaquiles from Mexico. A little kick of lime, which comes from the tomatoes. Will order again when I come back. My friend got the waffle, which she almost finished, even though she said she was going to take half of it home. Good spot to scratch the brunch craving. This place gets packed, so try to get on the Yelp waitlist to minimize the wait time. We decided to get our usual breakfast favorite, waffles and French toast, with some coffee. We got an iced cafe de olla ($5.95), churro waffle ($13.95), berry crispy French toast ($17.75), and a hot cafe de olla ($4.95). It was disappointing to discover that the regular hot cafe de olla comes with refills, but the iced cafe de olla does not, especially with the iced version costing a dollar more. The cafe de olla tastes great so get the hot version for the unlimited refills. Both sweet dishes were yummy, and it worked out that we ordered the more expensive French toast plate because that also came with two eggs, two slices of your choice of meat (bacon, sausage, turkey sausage, or ham), and your choice of hash browns, home fries, or fruit. Having something savory with our order helped balance all the sugary stuff we were consuming. Parking in Old Town Monrovia is pretty easy. Service was super fast when we came in to the cafe area. I got the hot cafe de olla and my boyfriend ordered the iced cafe de olla with milk. My coffee was very hot and super tasty. It was the best store bought cafe de olla I have tried outside of Mexico. Right next to the register you can find some pan dulce. They offer a few fresh baked items and some pre-bagged items like wedding cookies, etc. The location looked clean and well kept. I've visited this place often, cafe de olla is one of the many restaurants along downtown Monrovia. I prefer to order to go as the restaurant can be a bit noisy and packed. I ordered online and got chilaquiles verdes with an iced cafe de olla. As soon as I arrived my order was ready, they have a separate section where one can order coffee and bread. The chilaquiles were good, not too spicy but had a rich salsa flavor. The item came with rice and beans which were both good as well. The cafe de olla iced coffee was also good, tasted more on the horchata side but I didn't mind. I only knocked off a star because of the price, it was around $30 for those two items. Very steep and think you could find better for cheaper. read more

Very very overpriced for what it was. The taste was okay, but we were expecting much better for the price. Azteca Chilaquiles - red sauce with no eggs, cheese or sour cream, plus half of a French roll, topped with Refried beans & Soyrizo. Side of their creamy (vegetarian) Refried pinto beans. They have a lovely pan dulce case and you can pick up whole cheesecakes, cakes, pies or you can by the slices in case you want to try a little taste of everything (like I did). I love Cafe De Olla in downtown Monrovia, so when they opened up the Duarte location, I was eager to try. It's a lot smaller than the Monrovia location and doesn't have any seating. It's not a sit down restaurant but more of a quick grab and go bakery. When you enter the store, there are pastries on the right side of the wall, cakes in the back of the store and croissants in the display area next to the cashier on the left. My husband and I had the signature iced cafe de olla and cold brew with cafe de olla cold foam. The cold brew is very smooth and the signature iced coffee is always a treat. Finally, a coffee spot in Duarte that isn't Starbucks! Café de Olla Bakery & Café just opened and I'm so glad we gave it a try. The place is bright, super clean, and gives off that modern panadería feel--like your favorite neighborhood bakery but leveled up. I ordered the Ferrero iced latte and it was delicious. You could still taste the espresso--so it wasn't just syrupy sugar water pretending to be coffee (looking at you, chain cafés). It had a nice nutty, chocolatey flavor but still gave me that caffeine kick I needed. We also tried the chorizo burrito, and let me tell you, it wasn't just eggs with a hint of chorizo--it actually had a good portion of seasoned chorizo, fresh ingredients, and tasted homemade. They've got a ton of dessert options (chocoflan, carrot cake, creamy banana, and more), traditional pan dulce, ready-to-go cakes, and even birthday candles and cute toppers.
