They also have great frappes and coffee drinks. They make delicious hot breakfast burritos to order. I will absolutely come back and try their breakfast croissant sandwiches. We came in for breakfast with the family & we're seated in the back & advised to scan the QR code to view the menu, but there was no reception ‍ - Server came around to ask us what we would like to drink, again we struggled to view a menu so we just opt to get what they were known for cafe de olla, while attempting to upload their menu, so we just ordered 3 iced coffee to get started & they came right away. -we kept trying to connect to a WiFi & we finally were able to get 1 physical menu to share with the table. & after viewing I was disappointed because they had a variety of drinks to choose from, & were not informed of the available options. We should've waited I guess to view the physical menu. - taste wise iced coffee was good & we ordered another round. - husband said his burrito lacked taste & had to drench it in habanero -my omelette was not good im sorry but they melted 2 of those sandwich square cheese on top of the egg & it tasted gross... aren't you suppose to use shredded cheese on top? I'm not sure what happened to this place. The first time I came a couple years ago it was packed and the food was great. Went for breakfast that time. Decided to go back for lunch/early dinner. Went in and the ac was broken. It was warm inside and they had fans blowing. Perhaps that's why not too many people were in there. The table smelled like they cleaned it with a dirty rag. And the flies kept landing on it. Man who seemed to be the owner or manager wasn't the friendliest. He looked miserable and wasn't very welcoming. Fajitas - the beef was undercooked. Cafe De Olla Bakery is conveniently located next to Club Pilates, my workout spot. While I am very happy about this (I love Cafe de Olla in Monrovia), getting coffee and a pastry post-workout might very well become my routine if I don't exercise enough self-control! Like some of the reviews already mentioned, this location is more of a "grab and go" type of place. They have a solid selection of cakes, pastries, and drinks. If you are looking for their full breakfast menu, the Monrovia location down the street is where you would want to go! When I visited, they were celebrating their 1-year anniversary with an outside table of samplers. They had a balloon arch outside to signal to the community that they are celebrating something special as well. The lady out front shared with me what they had to offer, and she also mentioned that they do catering! I like my coffee strong but also on the sweet side. When I asked for the stronger option, I was recommended to get the cappucino rather than the latte and they can make the caffeine a little bit more concentrated without sacrificing the flavor. The cookies were a little dry for my taste but maybe it was because the samplers were sitting outside for a little too long. I would go back just to try the breakfast sandwich, but the experience of grabbing food was pretty fast and the food was flavorful enough! Had a good experience at Cafe De Olla Bakery. The food was good and flavorful especially the chilaquiles, which were perfectly sauced and topped with eggs cooked just right. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. The crunch factor on these were to my liking :) The breakfast plate with machaca was also good, and the desserts were good. The flan was smooth and rich, and the cake was light and not overly sweet. The pastry cart was such a fun touch and really added to the overall experience just wish it would have come out sooner instead of us having to wait another 10 minutes for our pastries. The only downside was with the coffee service. What we ordered at the bar wasn't consistent with what we were brought during refills, and we had already paid for our mugs upfront. Unfortunately, the waitress tried to charge us again without asking, which was a bit frustrating.m because we had to wait for her to correct it and we were trying to leave. Cafe De Olla Bakery a block away from my house? You've got to be kidding me! Absolutely can't believe that my waistline is going to increase now that it'll be so convenient for me to go grab a slice of their delicious Matilda Chocolate Cake. SCORE! This location is more of a "grab and go" type of place for coffee and pastries. It is unlike their Monrovia location where it is a sit-down establishment with a full food and beverage menu, so do expect cozy and cute, not a dine-in place to bring your date. I did felt a tad awkward when I walked in at first because the gentleman behind the counter probably thought I was weird in there snapping photos, so he did looked at me kind of funny. But after letting him know I was there for the first time since finding out on Yelp of this second location, he made small talk and was super friendly. We finally stopped by the bakery in Duarte to sample their signature beverage and pan dulce. Their cafe de olla, was served hot, a nice blend of cinnamon and sweetness. We bought an elote, tortuga and can't recall the third piece of pan, and alfajores. The elote was delicious, I love that you can see little specs of cinnamon, soft and tender and vanilla scent. The tortuga was a bit more spongy, fragrant, and nice balanced of sweetness. The alfajores were buttery, crisp and smeared with dulce de leche. I needed a bday cake and decided to order the strawberry shortcake, because it looked so pretty. The cake was a hit with the family. The frosting was super light, the filling is one layer of custard and the other of light whipped cream and berries. The sponge is moist, the cake is not sweet, but decadent in its creamy texture. From my experience if your looking for a place to grab a piece of cake or a whole one this could be the spot. Don't forget the case of pan dulce they have. I picked up a Banana nut muffin. Clean, warm and welcoming interior reminds me of a boutique bakery. Yes, the prices are higher than the average panaderia, but this bakery/cafe offers a different spin on their pan dulce. I saw the beautiful cakes and intriguing pastries in the cases but I wanted to try the sweet bread. The texture of the conchas are drier than traditional but the bread has a firmer, buttery crumb and the sugar shell patterned topping stays on and doesn't flake off. The elote was wrapped in a thin orange colored sugary layer...delicious slightly warmed up. The almond croissant was under a glass dome on the counter. Where do I begin !?!? Cafe de olla exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly and our waiter hector was very hospitable. The ambiance easily takes me back to a family owned Mexico City restaurant. The pan dulce is made in house which is good so you know they don't put out bread from the day before. You can see that this place is ran very well and professional. I got a cafe de olla (no pun intended) and it was one of the best cafe de olla's I've ever had, if not the best. It was sweet and you were able to taste the cinnamon. The Sinaloa combination really surprised me. In my house hold we fry the tamale and not a lot of people do that. So when I saw my plate with 2 fried tamales, I had a huge smile on my face. Very nostalgic feeling. The beans were ok, but nothing bad. Tasted like typical refried beans. The chilaquiles were the star of the plate. The salsa verde had lots of flavor and tasted like chilaquiles from Mexico. A little kick of lime, which comes from the tomatoes. Will order again when I come back. My friend got the waffle, which she almost finished, even though she said she was going to take half of it home. I think that goes to show you how good the waffle was ! Overall experience was 9.3/10. Only complaint is that I wish my food was a little bit more on the hotter side. Ok so if you're not familiar with this tasty drink, it's made by brewing cinnamon and piloncillo in a clay pot giving it its unique earthy flavor. So if that reads like your jam then get sum man! I ordered an iced Cafe De Olla to go and after my first sip I wasn't disappointed. After all it is their specialty right! They have pastries to go with your coffee so that's a score and makes for a tasty twosome. The service was ok and I'm not going to say it but I just have to. When you have a certain age group running things it loses that welcome factor to put it nicely. We decided to get our usual breakfast favorite, waffles and French toast, with some coffee. We got an iced cafe de olla ($5.95), churro waffle ($13.95), berry crispy French toast ($17.75), and a hot cafe de olla ($4.95). It was disappointing to discover that the regular hot cafe de olla comes with refills, but the iced cafe de olla does not, especially with the iced version costing a dollar more. The cafe de olla tastes great so get the hot version for the unlimited refills. Both sweet dishes were yummy, and it worked out that we ordered the more expensive French toast plate because that also came with two eggs, two slices of your choice of meat (bacon, sausage, turkey sausage, or ham), and your choice of hash browns, home fries, or fruit. Having something savory with our order helped balance all the sugary stuff we were consuming. Parking in Old Town Monrovia is pretty easy. Not only is their cafe de olla top notch (this is coming from someone who doesn't drink coffee btw). I prefer the hot over the iced. Their conchas are bomb too better than most Panaderias. Airy, soft and just so perfect! I like to throw them in the microwave for a few seconds. I did try their chorizo breakfast burrito, it was good but pretty average. I've visited this place often, cafe de olla is one of the many restaurants along downtown Monrovia. I prefer to order to go as the restaurant can be a bit noisy and packed. I ordered online and got chilaquiles verdes with an iced cafe de olla. As soon as I arrived my order was ready, they have a separate section where one can order coffee and bread. The chilaquiles were good, not too spicy but had a rich salsa flavor. The item came with rice and beans which were both good as well. The cafe de olla iced coffee was also good, tasted more on the horchata side but I didn't mind. I only knocked off a star because of the price, it was around $30 for those two items. Very steep and think you could find better for cheaper. read more

Our server, Julio, was wonderful, after describing the hot Cafe de Olla, it was a must try for me. Truly delicious, and I'm a black coffee drinker, yet the subtle sweetness, spices, and smooth coffee was perfection in a cup. As the token vegan, I was wanting to try a breakfast, yet the Green Menu wasn't quite the fit. Julio helped put together an amazing breakfast for me! Azteca Chilaquiles - red sauce with no eggs, cheese or sour cream, plus half of a French roll, topped with Refried beans & Soyrizo. Side of their creamy (vegetarian) Refried pinto beans. Truly appreciated how they created this for me!! I took half home! My friends enjoyed their breakfasts too... One had the Green Omelet - looked so good! My other friend has the Avocado Toast, which she said was such a nice twist with the sliced radishes, and drizzle of lemon. I need to bring my family here soon! I really like this place a lot but because there is only one person in the front register it can be slow once there is 3-4 people in line. Purchased a carrot cake for my sons birthday. He really liked it, to me the frosting on the outside was good but the middle frosting was hard and had a different texture. It was his cake and he liked it so that's what matters. I also purchased a couple of pieces of sweet bread which were 2.50 each which I thought was a little steep but I love my Mexican sweet bread. I love Cafe De Olla in downtown Monrovia, so when they opened up the Duarte location, I was eager to try. It's a lot smaller than the Monrovia location and doesn't have any seating. It's not a sit down restaurant but more of a quick grab and go bakery. When you enter the store, there are pastries on the right side of the wall, cakes in the back of the store and croissants in the display area next to the cashier on the left. My husband and I had the signature iced cafe de olla and cold brew with cafe de olla cold foam. The cold brew is very smooth and the signature iced coffee is always a treat.
