I couldn't resist when I saw their cakes. All of it looked so delicious and I was especially craving chocolate. I ordered one slice of their chocolate cakes and enjoyed it. It was not overly sweet and had a good soft texture. It tasted fresh. They had a lot of pastries to choose from, but I only got dessert. Next time, I will try their pastries. Service was quick and efficient. Parking was limited especially on a weekend, but we were able to find parking. There was also a few seats where I enjoyed my slice of cake at. I was already in the plaza and decided to stop by. They have a wide variety of breads, both sweet and savory, as well as desserts. I ended up getting the Earl Grey Bread, Black Sesame Bread, and the Creme Brulee. The Earl Grey flavor was pretty light in my opinion, but it was still good. The black sesame and creme brulee were definitely the standouts. The black sesame flavor was strong throughout, which I really liked, and the creme brulee had great texture and flavor. The staff was okay overall, though the woman checking us out was very nice. Pricing is also not bad. Parking was easy in the plaza lot. There was an explosion of flavors in the curry pie, and the light, flaky crust just elevated the pastry to a whole new level. The rice ball was the perfect combination of tastes and textures, from the crispy pork sung to the sweet and savory sausage to the fluffy, sticky rice. I have never been treated like I'm doing something wrong in an establishment, a bakery no less, from taking pictures to upload onto Yelp AND being a paying customer. How unprofessional is it to attack a customer without first seeking clarity? Completely distasteful if you ask me. All I was trying to do was show others what they offer In hopes to promote the place. With so many businesses going out of business in this economy you'd think they would appreciate it but instead, this lady attacked me - in front of other customers too. My partner and I came in to grab some pastries and as he was loading up our tray, I went around taking pictures. A set of customers noticed me taking pictures and we had laugh about it because the lady was like I know what you're doing! I even told them their choices were great, with the pork floss bun being one of my fav. After that the lady behind the counter walked over to me and said very loudly that I'm not allowed to take pictures of everything. I tried to explain to her that I'm taking pictures to promote their bakery and that it's for Yelp. She then accused me of taking pictures of people, to which point I offered to show my camera roll and then the other customer backed me up and said, me taking pictures is a good thing. The employee never even apologized, she just walked off. I don't know if JJ Bakery has a rival in the area or something, maybe she thought I was going to take all of their baked goods as ideas to copy and open up my own bakery or something idk. At this point, I didn't even want anything but my partner had picked out some pastries so he paid and we left. With so many bakeries in the area, I'd rather go somewhere else where I won't be attacked. I'll probably never come here again and I will NOT be recommending this place either. read more

The place was cleanThe service was fast and the staff was nice. By the time we went there which was approaching their closing time, they had run out of a few items. Bought their 8" Black Forest Cake for $32 for someone's birthday. It tasted great, not too sweet BUT the layers of chocolate sponge cake were just too thin! This is honestly like 70% cream than cake at this point (see my picture). We didn't buy this just to eat cream. And the layers of cake weren't even- the middle layer only went halfway. Whenever I'm in the Arcadia area, I stop by this JJ Bakery every single time. Compared to many Western bakeries, they have a much wider selection. My 'must-have' item is their sandwiches. They are very popular and usually sell out by lunchtime. The ingredients they use are very fresh. While that might seem like a basic requirement, many other bakeries use low-quality or even preserved ingredients. I especially love the bread they use, which is soft and fluffy. The ratio of the filling to the bread is perfectly balanced as well. I also have to mention the sauce. Many places drench their sandwiches in so much sauce that you can't taste anything else. At JJ Bakery, they use just the right amount to enhance the flavor of the ingredients rather than masking them. Besides the sandwiches, I always pick up their egg tarts, Swiss chocolate cake rolls, pineapple pastries, Chinese pork tamales, and pork & vegetable steamed buns. Everything is high quality, delicious, and very reasonably priced. This is definitely one of the best bakeries to visit if you're in the area! read more

We were craving savory soy milk and deep-fried cruellers so we came to JJ Bakery to order breakfast. Unfortunately the staff informed us after we ordered all the food at the counter, that they wouldn't allow us to sit down at any of the tables since they didn't want to open the seating area for another 30 minutes. We ended up eating the food outside standing. The savory soy milk was delicious although I was surprised by the hot and sour soup that it came in. The sweet soy milk was so warm, fresh, and delicious. My kids and I loved the cruellers. We also bought a fan tuan (rice roll filled with pickled radish, and dried shredded pork ro sung) which was wonderfully crunchy and chewy. The sesame wrap filled with beef was flaky and yummy. We enjoyed the shredded dried pork bun, taro bun and red bean bun but I wish the red bean bun had more filling in it. Their bento boxes seem really popular with rice, mushroom, pork, and several other varieties, and sold out pretty quickly by noon. I would definitely come back for the soy milk and cruellers here but next time will check on their seating area hours since they were really strict about not letting us eat there. read more

Came again on Sunday around lunch time and there was no line. Fresh selection of breads but I opted to try out the precooked meals this time. I didn't like that the pricey wasn't labeled and I had to ask how much they were. Got a sticky rice bento and my friend got a minced pork rice and they were about $9 each. The selection leaned more toward the polished, trendy side--reminiscent of 85°C Bakery--rather than the down-home, Hong Kong-style bakeries I crave. But I still held out hope for those classic flavors. That hope didn't last long. The char siu bao was my first disappointment. Covered in sesame seeds, it was already sending warning signals. A good BBQ pork bun doesn't need distractions--it should speak for itself. Biting in, the filling was moist but shockingly bland. Where was the depth? The balance of sweetness and umami that defines a proper char siu bao? Nowhere to be found. I left JJ Bakery wishing I had just gone somewhere else, somewhere that respects the classics instead of chasing trends. There's also a sausage one. The you tiao is very crispy inside. - BBQ Pork Bun: Generous and delicious filling. - Chicken Pie or Beef Curry Pie: Chicken is lighter in flavor with real chunks of chicken. Beef curry is saltier but packs a punch. When fresh, the pastry layers flake off graciously in your mouth and not-so-graciously all over you. - Cakes: You can't go wrong with the cakes here. I usually get the ones with fruit on them. Light and fluffy cake and cream is perfect! Not too sweet. We were celebrating my brother's birthday a couple weekends ago. I wanted to surprise him with a b-day cake and some baked goods. I pre-ordered a 10" Vanilla Chiffon Cake with Red Bean, Taro, and Pudding and also ended up buying 8 caramelized flan, 4 strawberry mochi, and 4 mango mochi. The cake was gorgeous and delicious, not too sweet, just right. The caramelized flan was a disappointment. I was hoping to like it, but it didn't have that smooth flan texture. It was sandy egg... not sure how to put it. The mochi was also not too great... not enough cream inside. Mango was better than strawberry though. I was going to give them a 3 star, but the cake was good so I bumped up 1 star. Hopefully, they'll revisit their flan and mochi recipe and reinvent them for better tasting ones. Some staff was pleasant, but others didn't have the time and day to smile. But hey, they are there to get you in and out as quickly as possible. It's not personal, it's business. Prices were a tad steep especially for the mochi and flan. I would return to try their other cakes and mochi. I read they have a green tea mochi... looking forward to try that one out. I just bought their Lava Custard Mini Mooncake. They were delicious and moist in the inside. It's $27 for 4 mini-moon cakes. I think the packaging is super cute and makes for a great gift! There are other moon cake varieties too. I love coming here for sweet and savory bread and special occasion cakes too. My kids love their hot dog bread and I like the puff pastry bread with shredded pork inside. Their taro and red bean cakes are really good too! This location also serves breakfast. JJ Bakery is my go-to bakery to pick up birthday cakes! My dad's favorite is the Taro Cake here ($28) and it's covered in fresh fruits with taro whipped cream and real taro layers inside. If you're a taro lover like my family, you won't be disappointed! They make their cakes fresh daily so I always call in the day before to pre-order and I've never had an issue. They also have drink/boba here and standard Asian baked goods. I always pick up some yummy sausage and green onion breads as well as pineapple breads. These pastries are my childhood favorites and are perfect for breakfast and snacking on! Do note that their customer service may not be the best and the staff here predominantly speak Chinese with some broken English.
