I've had Hydrex PC for decades to control and maintain my home against termites. My annual inspector and treatment specialist Gary is THE BEST!! Incredibly kind, professional and friendly, you know he cares about his job and his customers!!! Maria is the company rep I get on the phone 99% of the time unfortunately! She ALWAYS sounds unfriendly, grumpy, and like she hates her job and like she does NOT want to help you - like she is being bothered to have to take time out of her day to help a customer; she is very sharp and down right rude in her tone!! I absolutely dread having to work with her!! Other than Maria, the work that Gary does has been excellent and has kept my home termite free or at least well controlled. I have used Hydrex Pest Control in the past for termite infestation and years ago, Hydrex was the best. Today is a different story. They were called out to examine a vacant rental property for termites. I had seen some litter around the perimeter of a wooden structure attached to the house and suspected as much. Alan was the Hydrex representative that performed the survey and he did say that tenting was necessary. The tenting was scheduled and that is when the problem started. Hydrex scheduled SDGE to turn off the gas which they did on the day of the scheduled tenting and was necessary in order to tent the house. What Hydrex didn't tell us is that an occupied rental ADU on the back lot would need to have their gas shut off as well because the gas meters were side by side located where the tenting was placed. SDGE told us that this was typical with an ADU and Hydrex was aware of the ADU behind the front house. The inspection by Hydrex should have advised us of this situation but they overlooked it. We could have made some preliminary arrangements with the tenant since that meant that they would not have hot water for 3 days or a means to cook on the stove. A significant compensation was awarded to the tenant for this urgent and necessary inconvenience. I felt that a professional company like Hydrex should have known this and should have allowed some compensation to us for this situation. They didn't compensate us at all and didn't apologize for the problem that they caused. I will not use this non-compassionate company again. read more

We've been with Hydrex for more than 20 years. Earlier this year a Hydrex technician put some gel along a seam near our bathroom sink; he told us the ants take it back to the nest and it kills the whole colony. We called Hydrex this week to repeat the treatment. The woman on the phone insistently disavowed any knowledge of such treatment. She wouldn't let us talk to the manager, putting us on hold while she spoke with him several times. She finally said Hydrex "isn't doing that anymore"--meaning, I assume, the treatment we asked for. She said several times,, "We don't do--we've never done--what you're asking for." We fired them. read more

This 5-star review is for Tom from Hydrex who did a great job after another technician did a non-thorough job [but the other guy knocked off a star] We have an annual plan with the company since 2008 or so when we last tented. Unfortunately, the technician (not Tom) assigned to our area changed, and last year they sent a guy who basically waved his hand, said swarms are normal, and then claimed the termites were getting in from outside. He wasn't thorough in the inspection and only treated the easiest areas. When we had termites falling from our light fixtures, he then said it's normal and we can't get them all, and went on to tell a story about someone's home office with a ton of termites as if it was just the way it is in San Diego. He then wrote up a quote for fumigation. We called the company back and asked for their best technician to come and give us a second opinion. They sent Tom who didn't talk alot, but was all over the attic, climbing into small crevices and exploring. He sprayed foam on the areas he saw and even took pictures with his phone to show us. This was in October 2021, and I meant to write a review. So far, we're good and I think he got them. But with this company, what I found out is that you must demand the best technicians. The other guy we got was not experienced (I think 6 months on the job?) and talked more than inspected. I told my neighbor and she also got Tom to inspect and locally treat her house and is happy with the results. Always ask for their best inspectors and don't just take the default. read more

This the first time I have to hire someone for termite inspection since I need the section 1 clearance. If you need someone to do the treatment and do the work to fix the damage, DO NOT hire this company!!! They quoted almost 10k plus almost 3k for treatment. This company once they know you are in escrow selling your home. They will charge you lots of money. I made a mistake on hiring them to do the treatment and ended losing almost 3k and I had the other company fix their Hydrex mistake. They poke and add more damage on the structures of my house. Hydrex should get zero stars. Hydrex = Horrible experience. Hydrex outsourced the work and did not take responsibility for extensive roof damage. Hydrex did not have immediately come out to inspect. We have a 1 story house with flat roof and they people that did the work did not exercise care and caused about 60 tiles to be damaged. This was verified by my contractor who performed the work. Hydrex did not immediately respond to calls or requests to see the damage until we'll after my roof work was completed and then tried to say that I am not telling the truth. Hydrex management doesn't care. Find another pest control company as Hydrex can't be trusted. Here is a copy of the email sent to Hydrex requesting to speak with the management. Hydrex never bothered to respond to my email. My contractor estimates 60 tiles broken, although I have not gone up there to inspect. The Service manager I spoke with seem to be only concerned with telling me that I signed a contract and that I'm looking at my tile damage would have no bearing on the outcome of that Hydrex will not be responsible. From day one the report was done, they promised a date and time and they were there on time every time. While doing their work there were a couple more things that needed to be done and they took care of everything, Vincent and Barb were on top of things. Howdy! I wanted to share some feedback. I received a recommendation via NextDoor for Hydrex. I've recently purchased a home and want to have my house tented before we move in. On your website it says "Call Us for a Free Estimate We invite you to call the office nearest you." I also clicked the 'Request a Free estimate" button, filled out the form, but received an error submitting it (There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later). I called the San Diego # (ending on 0455). I received the same error when trying to submit this info to the contact form on the Hydrex website. When I explained that I am a new home owner and wanted to get a quote for fumigation, the lady on the phone told me that you guys don't give quotes over the phone and that I should just go with the company that did the termite inspection during the home buying process. I'm trying to be a conscious consumer and I didn't realize shopping around for a fumigation quote was such a big 'no-no' Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. read more

We have maintained a contract with Hydrex for termite control for the past five years and they had a contract for the previous 10 years with the former owner. Every time a tech came out, we were assured that any active termites were being treated. We recently put this home on the market and luckily we had another company come out to perform a fresh termite inspection. They found termite pellets in an area where Hydrex treated and thinking they were new pellets, the company listed it as active on their report. I contacted Hydrex and found out they don't clean up termite pellets when they treat so there is no way of knowing if the termites are active or not. They also wanted another 90$ to provide a report that they had treated the area. I will be canceling my contract for the two other properties I own. read more

I definitely do not recommend this company. The gentleman who came to our house was apparently the one on the TV commercials and was very proud about that. That wouldn't have bothered me except for the fact that he poked a bunch of holes in old termite damaged wood that we now have to fill. We just got our house painted a year ago too. He said our house was in impeccable condition but then gives us a quote for $3500. When I asked him about the termite damage he could not tell me whether it was new/existing termites or old termite damage. Why on earth would I spend $3500 for termites that may not even be active still?!?!? I really didn't understand why they couldn't tell me whether the termites were active or whether it was old termite damage. I called twice to see if I could get someone to clarify and neither calls were ever returned. I definitely question their credibility! read more

I am in the process of renovating an inherited property to rent out. For many, many years my relative dutifully paid Hydrex to come out and inspect/treat the infested areas under their policy. Upon peeling back the layers of the onion, so to speak, I find quite an infestation in the rafters, tongue and groove boards and facia boards. In other words, this so-called policy was less than worthless in preventing damage to the property. My relative was quite elderly, she was unable to take note of any problem areas, and relied on Hydrex to do this for her, and at this they completely failed, but they were quite happy to take the money. I would not recommend them, or their worthless policy, to anyone. read more

I needed to get termite issues dealt with prior to upcoming remodeling. My step-father recommended Hydrex, as he has been very pleased with them. Just used them yesterday, but service-wise it was top-notch! Inspector Pepe and tech Victor were both very professional, thorough, and nice to deal with. I didn't really want to deal with the hassles of tenting, so went with the similarly-priced electro-gun method, which was MUCH easier. Still had to leave the house, but it only took about four hours. The cheat they tried with me got them a couple hundred dollars extra, but they also lost other accounts. So along with being far from honest, they are also far from bright. At that point, she refused to provide documentation of my request to terminate my contract for pest control. Apparently, I am to trust the word of this patronizing to individual. 5 years ago we had our home rented prior to moving in. It's always surprising that termites can find their way back in your home the week later. Nobody can help that. We take pride in our home and spend lots of time in the yard taking care of the house and the exterior. No matter how much you care for it those little buggers are gonna eat away at the house, so we had to take care of it again. We had 3 companies come and give us a bid on the job. One said we needed to rent the place, one didn't see any problems at all, and then we met Pepe (I know, kinda funny, but it's a nickname and it fits!). This guy is as knowledgeable as they come. He quickly found the areas of damage under paint that nobody else found, showed us those area and explained the best treatment, which wasn't tenting, wasn't cheap, but was what was needed, and again wasn't tenting which is quite expensive and puts you out of the house for 3 days. Pepe showed us their non poisonous options to eradicate them critters! My wife is extremely sensitive to chemicals and scents that shouldn't be in your system. On top of that she's a little OCD, sometimes to the point of nausea when it comes to dealing with this stuff. She does not take these kind of services lightly. Hydrex was absolutely the best value we could have asked for Today we had our service done and we were thrilled with the level of professionalism by the service tech. Booties worn in the house, clear directions about what we needed to do and how we needed to be out for the day, but when we came home everything was as we left it. It's difficult because you pay for things in your home that you don't see, but with the service we had today and the warranty Hydrex offered we're more than satisfied with the work they did to protect our home for years to come. I basically only write very positive reviews. If a company is average, or not great, I normally just don't bother saying anything at all. However this one is different. I could write a non-fiction, coffee table-sized book about how, in my personal opinion, Hydrex of San Diego County is a terrible company - but what's the point? They've already caused me considerable financial expense, wasted time and stress - and they nearly derailed the sale of my property, which I had paid them to service for the better part of 10 years. The fact that they took my money and didn't do their maintenance work well is the least of their sins. It's been my experience that most incompetent, unprofessional companies like Hydrex of San Diego County only passively or unintentionally hurt their customers; mostly through carelessness, ignorance, or a lack of organization. Hydrex of San Diego County does those guys one better. They can, if you make them angry, actively and vindictively try to hurt you financially; such as in my case, when I insisted that they perform per their contract as part of the wood and pest clearance required for the sale of property in California. Bottom line, in my opinion these guys are evil - no other word better describes this company. If you have the misfortune of finding yourself in a business transaction with Hydrex of San Diego, run in the opposite direction. We bought a home in Escondido that was inspected by Hydrex. They found termites in the back patio, and treated and cleared the home. They also provided a 2 year guarantee for their work. A few months later we saw evidence of termites in the outer walls of the actual home. Hydrex came out and confirmed it was termites. They offered to spot treat for free, which included drilling holes in the walls, but would not offer to fumigate the house for free. I called the pest board and they explained that a pest company like this needs to guarantee their work. Because we asked Hydrex to spot treat the patio they are only compelled to spot treat on their guarantee. If we had insisted they fumigate the house the pest board would have been able to compel them to re-fumigate. Knowing this, I have learned there are 3 rational options if termites are found on a home inspection: fumigate, fumigate, fumigate. My main complaint is that Hydrex did not find termites in the actual house structure when they were clearly present. Had they correctly identified termites in the walls of the home we would have asked them to fumigate and it would have been done right the first time. Since they did not find termites in the actual home but only the back patio we incorrectly chose to spot treat. To Hydrex's credit they did offer a discount on fumigation, which we eventually accepted. The fumigation scheduling was done poorly as they showed up late and then did not communicate when the fumigation was complete. I would not use this company again. read more

I hired them because they do termite elimination using an electro gun rather that poison. They came in, did an estimate, and had someone out the following week to do the job. It took a while (three or four hours), but there was no poison involved, which was good for me and my animals. In addition to the initial service, for $275 a year, they do annual inspections and spot treatments, plus if any signs of termites appear in between they will come out free of charge and do spot treatments. I have not had to do a whole-house treatment since the original one. They are A#1 in my book. read more

Mixed bag with this company. I think they know what they are doing in terms of termite inspections, but their reports are hard to read which isn't exactly helpful during an escrow. I used them because the HOA used them for their maintenance program on the complex. Figured there would be less dispute on a problem as you will find significant variances in treatment/repair costs from different termite companies. I think that was the case here and they did take care of the treatment that was needed as part of the HOA's contract with them. read more

First off the tech Brendan is awesome. My one star is with the people who answer phones and do billing. Money was held by my bank thanks to hydrex yesterday 11/20 and when I asked about it the girl said we don't charge people who haven't had service yet. So I called back the next day 11/21 after the money had come out and she still denied they charged my account. Ok I have a bank statement. After being put on hold 10 minutes she came back with that charge was for September's service... why am I being charged 2 months after the fact? Especially when I was told both days I had a zero balance... so after I'm told I have a zero balance I'm just supposed to accept I actually didn't have a zero balance? Shawn came out and treated them (electrocuted our unwanted bugs!) he was very professional and we will sign up for the service with them, will update review again then. Our friends referred us to them (Sherrill's) and they have used them for many years. We had Hydrex as our yearly service people for termite control for 22 years (1987 to 2010) and paid them almost $1,000 a year to come and check and spray or "control" termite invasion in and outside our home. We were on a canyon and we expected they "knew"? their profession. When it came to sell our home, when we had the inspection for the closing , the inspection by Hydrex for the "wood destroying insects" came back with an estimate for getting rid of insects and repairs at $40,000.00 (Yes, Forty Thousand dollars!!!!). These were the people who were supposed to protect this home EVERY YEAR WITH A CONTRACT TO DO SO!! They HAD to reduce it by $5,000.00 because they "FORGOT" their original contract called for protection from Subterranean termites as well. If you are smart, you will hopefully take this "Opinion" to heart and check out other more competent pest control companies. Absolutely, your choice.... read more
