This place is awesome! After reading several positive reviews we hustled down 41 from Fresno and arrived at The Grille at 5:50, 10 minutes before closing. Our waitress/bartender/busboy/manager, Kiera, greeted us with a smile as I walked in with one dog under my arm and another on a leash. They have a doggie menu, what could I do? On this splendid Monday in late June, (thin scattered clouds, 75 degrees, unlimited visibility) we took a table on the patio. The Grill is on a Hill. We were looking southeast at a vista that starts with the golf course, then vineyards and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. People from Southern California would love this view, I think, just for the open expanse. Nothing for miles to disturb it except one high tension tower from Diablo Canyon, about 5 miles away. Oh well. A red tailed hawk was patrolling the skies and the sun was getting lower, bathing said hawk in a ruby red glow. We had the Avocado Egg Rolls ($8) and the Sliders ($7) and a glass or two of the House Red ($3) The canine companions selected the roast turkey breast ($4) off the doggie menu. Prices are from the Happy Hour menu (3-6 pm) June, 2013. The Avocado Egg Rolls were crisp. They had been sliced in two at about 30 degree angle from legthwise. This presented the filling of avocado, etc. at a nice angle. They were served with a relish, which was tangy and sweet. The relish had walnuts that had been purred so that all you tasted (of the walnuts)was the walnut oil and a few small chunks, which made it pretty interesting. Thumbs up. The order of Sliders arrived like Los Tres Amigos, all lined up and ready for battle. Kelly's bacon is featured prominently on the menu, and it came on the sliders. Kelly's bacon is a special, secret way of cooking bacon which make the bacon very sweet. It was awesome. The sliders came with a mayonaise concoction, lettuce, a perfect slice of red tomatoe, Kelly's bacon and cheese. Two thumbs way up. My taste buds had to wrestle with the house red when it first arrived, but after a few minutes to breath it settled down. Very nice, especially for $3. It was Monday. Our hostess and jack of all trades, Kiera, was all alone. She had a party of 14 golfers who requested separate checks, two other parties just finishing up, and us. There were a couple tables that needed to be bussed, but otherwise Kiera was holding everything together. Kiera is awesome. Suggestions? Yeah, I have a one. They close at 6 pm, and happy hour is 3-6 pm. In the summer time, extend the closing time to 7 pm, and extend happy hour. You can probably close at 6 pm in the winter. The Grill at Hunter Ranch golf course is an awesome restaurant that...does not serve dinner. Oh well, it's on a golf course. Happy hour is 3-6 pm, and on weekends they waive the $15 corkage fee during happy hour. Wow. They serve the lunch menu during happy hour as well. Driving west on 46 the turn into the golf course is 6.3 miles from the new double bridge across the canyon on 46. You will see the golf course on your left as you're approaching. Like MacArthur, we shall return. With Dogs. ***** Our return: Two days later, on our way home from Pismo Beach, we stopped at the Grill again. We arrived just as Happy Hour was beginning at 3 pm. It was 90 degrees at least, and just getting warmer. Once again we sat on the patio with our dogs. If we didn't have dogs we would have been inside where it was much cooler. Kiera kept the ice water coming. Today we had: Sliders: Just as good as before. A winner. Two Thumbs up. Mediterranean Flat Bread: Thin bread with sun dried tomatoes, greek olives, feta cheese and a balsamic reduction. It is about 6" x 10" and cut into 8 pieces. They seem small, but each bite packs lots of flavor. Two Thumbs up. Sweet Potato Fries: Wow. Sweet Potato Fries that REALLY taste like Sweet Potato. Well Done. Two thumbs up way up. Spinach Artichoke dip: Warm dip served wit Tortilla Chips. My GF likes this dish, and she chose this, as opposed to recommendations from Kiera for the other items. Basically, well done....but really couldn't compete with the other three dishes. On a scale of 1-10, the other three dishes were all 12's, and this is an 8. 8 is darn good and all, but the 12's over shadow. It's a fine Spinach Artichoke dip. Thumbs up. Summing up: When it's hot, sitting outside is hot. Duh. But you can bring your dogs. When we arrived today there was a couple we had met in Pismo who I told about this restaurant, sitting on the patio with their two dogs. 'nuff said. If it's 95 or 100 outside you can't leave the dogs in your car. That having been said, there are plenty of other reasons to visit The Grill. Great Food, Great People, Happy Hour deals are amazing. In the past the "Ranch" was my favorite place for a fantastic breakfast. We usually went there about once a month; view, food, staff, service etc. all the very best! Today, post Covid 19 lockdown, was a huge disappointment. The breakfast menu was very limited. Take out cups, plastic utensils, a basket for my husbands breakfast burrito, etc. etc! The waitress was just okay; it sure wasn't Summer. I don't believe we'll be going back until they have a full menu, regular utensils, plates, cups and glasses. I have lunch here after almost every round of golf I play. Terrific food and outstanding service. This place is so good there are days that the Grille has more customers than the golf course! The Grille is not your typical golf course restaurant with greasy burgers and everything fried. The menu has a wonderful variety and I have enjoyed everything I have tried. There are tacos, a Kobe burger, a Ruben, a Tri Tip sandwich, and so much more. One of my friends is convinced they have best fish & chips in the county. I think she is right. The beer & wine selection is good and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. I would say my only complaint is they do not have hard alcohol. I am known to enjoy a bloody mary in the morning and I can't get one here. Everything else is so good, I will let that slide. (And unlike Rafael, my favorite waitress is still there!) So we are on a road trip and looking for somewhere in this town to eat....I went to my trusty Yelp iPhone app and found this place. We drove up and from the outside looks like regular golf course restaurant from the outside. But upon entering the place was way cool. It kinda looked like a cross between a snack bar/ Wine tasting room and Theme park restaurant. We went up the to servers station and asked to be seated and to our dismay...They said they were closing early since it was so slow cause of the holidays.... We were sooo bummed! They were the only place around. The server told us to hold on for a sec and went off to talk to the cook. She came back and said that the grill and fryer were off but we were more than welcome to order any cold food. We were cool with that since we needed something. We ordered some chips and salsa to start with. The chips and salsa were ok. Salsa was home made and good, the chips were standard premade white and red chips and not heated. We ordered Cold sandwitches, 1-Club 1-Roast Beef 1- Veggi. We got fresh fruit for one of the sides and small salad for the other sides. Fruit was great and salad was awesome. Roast Beef sandwitch was awesome! The roast beef was cooked perfect and had some sort of sauce on it. Their house bread/roll was fantastic. My wife said the Veggi sandwich was excellent. She was impressed. My Kids shared the club. The bacon was very good and the turkey was very high quality not "pressed turkey". The service was great! The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Overall we were happy. I would have been cool to be able to order the full menu but we made the best of what we could. It was a little pricey. This is one of my favorite places in Paso. They used to be open for dinner, but now they're only open for Happy Hour until 6. The food is more expensive than you'd expect at a golf course, but it's pretty good and the view is amazing. The happy hour is a great deal, and we often order a few appetizers and turn it into dinner. Go here on a nice day and sit outside. They also have a Sunday brunch that is expensive, but amazing. Little crazy for VDay brunch, but OMG... Prime rib, eggs benedict, quiche, chocolate covered everything, Mimosas, and on and on and on. We called for a reservation a bit last minute for a holiday weekend and Kelly re-worked her seating plans to get us in. We're an odd bunch with some gluten free, some diabetic, some non-dairy. Definitely didn't love Hunter Ranch Grill--was looking for a place to grab brunch the morning we were leaving Paso Robles. Didn't realize it was only a buffet - everything was pretty picked over and "sticky" by the time we grabbed food in the early afternoon. Bacon was dipped in a layer of what seemed like maple syrup or sugar - and the eggs were the artificial kind, likely from a carton. Treated my brother and his wife to lunch here after a full day of wine touring. All I can say about the food is tri tip sandwich with caramelized onions! Wow! It's loaded with flavor. I was so preocupied with my juicy and tender tri tip sandwich, I almost failed to notice or try the other dishes . . . so unlike me. This restaurant is at a pretty golf coarse, quite and green. Food was so good and the scenery was beautiful! I got the Happy Hour natchos, which was huge by the way, I couldn't finish it. My daughter got the fish tacos and devoured them! To bad we were stuffed or I would have gotten the flour less chocolate cake . I just couldn't eat anymore. We are DEFINITELY coming back here! This rating is for their breakfast. We went here before a day of wine tasting because it was open earlier than some of the other restaurants and it was nearby our hotel. I tried calling to see if we needed to make a reservation and no one was picking up the phone so that was kind of annoying, but after a few times of calling I finally talked to someone and they said no reservation was needed for the time we were coming. The menu is pretty basic. My husband and I shared a Fresh Garden Omelete and added shrimp as well as the Cinnamon French Toast. The omelet was very good with the addition of the shrimp, but the french toast was terribly dry and bland. Our uber driver, like some of the reviews, said that the Sunday Brunch is really good, so maybe that is worth a shot. The positives are the view and the service are good. My sister made a reservation for 2:30 on a Friday. We were four. My husband and I visiting from out of town. When we arrived, we were told that we could not sit in the main dinning room as there was a large party coming in. None of us like alfresco dining, and my sister had explicitly asked for indoor seating because of that. Stupid us, we stayed anyway. We were seated next to a heater that didn't work. So we wrapped our jackets around our feet to keep warm. The food was mediocre but edible. We were there about an hour. When we left I noticed that no one from their special party had even arrived. I told a gal, possible manager, "Gee, we could have eaten in here. The room is empty and your party isn't even here yet!" She said, "Well we tried to call you about the reservation but couldn't get a hold of anyone." Sorry. That was a lie! My sister checked all her messages and there was nothing from your restaurant. So the point of my review, having been in the restaurant business most of my life, is sort of a warning. I know from studies, that one in ten people with a complaint will complain, while the other nine say nothing. They just don't come back. It's the little things, the details, that break a business like yours. Not honoring a reservation is a major faux pas. We won't be back of course, but you might want to rethink your customer service policies for future guests. read more

I took Allen's advice and tried Hunter Ranch Grille. I too was very pleasantly surprised. The outdoor dining was wonderful on this early fall afternoon. I had the Da Vinci Sandwich, a marinated and grilled chicken breast, Kelly's bacon, fresh avocado slices, lettuce, tomato, red onions and melted swiss cheese, served on a demi loaf with basil aioli. Outstanding! My wife had the Caesar salad with chicken and was happily surprised when it came with tomatoes, red onions, avocado and olives. The Viognier they offered was very good as well. All in all, this is a gem, off the beaten path. Don't believe your GPS... it will lie to you and take you 3 miles further on Hwy 46. Just look for the golf course and turn in. read more

I visited this restaurant around 11 and everyone in my large party wanted to order items from the lunch menu. We were told that we could not order lunch items and instead must breakfast. Now everyone was ordering salad, shrimp, beer, etc off the lunch menu. I asked why we couldn't order lunch and the cashier told me that the cook was getting overwhelmed. So, we ordered breakfast. Two people got their order within 10 minutes, I got mine 25 minutes later, and the other 3 never got their food! They had to ask for their money back. This is a review from pre COVID that is long overdue. This spot has it all: great views, great wine, a tour, great food and excellent staffing. I went there after a long day and was ready to go home. Tired and hungry I and a few others stepped in for a meal and got a tour of vineyards, watched golfers curse and damn there scores while we waited for our food. When my meal arrived; a steak with wine and asparagus and a great salad arrived it was beautiful. The veggies were colourful the asparagus steamed fresh and not tough but that streak was a perfect medium. Nice and pink on the inside and stayed hot and tender. I mean melt in your mouth type. The Merlot was the perfect paring to cleanse the palate and prep it for the next big bite. The salad was had a great blu cheese with crumbles that really accentuated the dressing. The staff made sure our group was attended to and we had coffee and drinks flourishing. Just so you know the coffee here is good too. You must stop in on this location nestled on a rolling hill recessed and overlooking the freeway with various vineyards all the way around. Hope to visit them again after the nation is COVID free. read more

Went here with two friends for Sunday Brunch. The prime rib was amazing and perfectly prepared. The desserts were delicious and the omelettes were made to order. We did the single time visit and they provided us with a larger plate which left us all full at the end of the meal. Would definitely return for brunch here again. I always get the seafood omelette, and it's always outstanding - seafood is busting out of it and topped with avocado, it's just delicious! My husband usually gets the burrito and it is also always very good. We love coming here to eat on non-brunch buffet days because it's quiet and the food is always very stellar. I hate to be hard on a place but I have to be honest. Came here for brunch with my mom and uncle late morning. There were two options one to have unlimited access with champagne or mimosas or to get one plate. I honestly wish I only got one plate because there was nothing spectacular to go back for. Granted we got there a little late to the party but it looked like the mayhem had already happened. Most of the food was at the bottom of the barrel and not super hot and looked kind of tired. By the time we left I had not gotten a refill on the mimosa, but I was already over it so I let that go and didn't rely on my DD. On the plus side, they were cutting the last of the beef, which I have to say was very rare (the way I like it). Additionally I didn't eat too much and feel like a load for the rest of the day.
