The service was extremely rude and unaccommodating. They kicked me and my 6 month pregnant girlfriend out due to my small, well-behaved dog sitting with us on the outside patio. After being seated (with them aware we had our small dog with us) and our appetizer and drink orders be taken, the manager comes to our table and rudely asks to leave. He then continues to stare us down as we were packing up our stuff. Unfortunately, we will not dine at any of the Hungry's chains in the future because of this service and lack of communication about their pet policy. read more

As a Houston native, I'm so upset I didn't discover this place sooner! If you're looking for healthy and delicious options- this is the perfect place to go to! They have several vegetarian options, that are easily made vegan! I got the Tostada Salad, and it was one of the best salads I've ever had! Cilantro like dressing was vegan and not overwhelmingly sour! The outside patio is perfect to enjoy a beautiful day! I had the Asian Pear Cocktail and the Hendricks Martini... awesome drinks! Great service... great food! Will definitely be coming back. Thank you, Hungry's, for having vegan/ vegetarian options! read more

Great restaurant and staff. The vegan "beef" seitan tacos would be absolutely delicious if they removed the ginger. The seitan is perfectly cooked and slightly crispy, the corn tortillas are soft, and the aioli and shredded lettuce and cabbage are the perfect complement. However, the ginger is unfortunately overwhelming enough it makes the tacos impossible to eat. It's disappointing, because they'd be so good otherwise! read more

NOT DOG FRIENDLY!!!!!!! You can't even take your dog with you to sit outside on their patio. We came today to get brunch and I was looking forward to their mimosa flight. Cafe. Bistro. Waitress. Counter service. Valet. Self-Park. Greek. Mexican. This indecisive restaurant tries to have a little bit of everything. Indecision bugs me. It's good if you have a group who can't agree on anything, a sort of demilitarized zone without the mines and barbed wire. There is a hostess at the door who helps the uninitiated, fortunately. The closer you sit to her, the more likely she'll tell you the table is for wait service rather than counter service. It actually reminds me of this place in Paris, where--having no clue what's going on--we sat down and ordered from the menu on the table. The waiter screamed at us in French, indicated to the table cloth, and stormed off. No screaming here, but you will still feel like an idiot when they ask you to move. They have a mix of salads, plate lunches, sandwiches, wraps. A melting pot of dishes including Greek gyros, Italian Pasta, Mexican fajitas ("wrap"), American comfort food. I generally go for the gyros, which are classic and tasty, in wrap or plate format. They make a nice iceberg wedge salad, as well. The food is well prepared, though it doesn't distinguish itself from the hordes of other Houston cafe's enough for me to ever think of this place. It's a solid cafe experience. I bet they do a good breakfast, they have quite an extensive and yummy looking menu. it's just that I'm unlikely to drive 40 miles round-trip for a place that's just A-OK. read more

My company ordered delivery from hungry's for lunch. Being a vegan, I understand not everyone understands or are mindful about veganism. Lunch was supposed to be delivered by 11am. To be safe, I called the restaurant to confirm my vegan request for the Garden of Eating Wrap (vegetarian). I opened the to go container, it contains a cup of black beans and it cheese. When I cut the wrap open (had a pretty good feeling my request was overlooked) , there was cheese in it, I tried to eat around it and then when I got to the 2nd half of the wrap, there was a piece of meat in it. If you cannot take your customers dietary requests seriously, you do not belong in this business. If you are confused about veganism. Google it! No meat or any animal products. And yes chicken is meat. Only if yelp allows, this establishment deserves -5 stars. read more

It is never a good sign when you go out and you can see the waiters arguing over who will take your table. Not for the tip, but so they can go home.....On a Thursday night at 8pm..... I live out in this area, completely love the entire concept of Hungrys and the bar NEXT DOOR. However, I abhor the the lack of service that the food does not make up for. The food is passable. The drinks are okay. Nothing stands out, and if I may, NOT HEALTHY. Not terrible for you, however when you cook everything on the same surface......guess what happens.... Biggest pet peeve I guess would be having the wait staff smoke at the outside tables while I was waiting for a server.... Not that I am adverse to smoking.....Sign me, Waiting for a Waiter read more

Not impressed at all. The restaurant has a weird smell, perhaps a plumbing issue. 1. The water tastes sour. It has such a nasty taste and an even worse aftertaste. I couldn't even drink it and I had to order a Sprite to kill the taste. 2. My boyfriend's beer was very flat. He ordered a St. Arnold and it was really bad. 3. We ordered the Hummus which was okay, the pita bread was really good though. A bit addicting! 4. I ordered the Anaheim chicken dish as previously seen on these reviews. The chicken was good however the veggies looked and tasted like the came out of a microwaveable steamed bag. The rice was hard and pretty mediocre for basmati rice. 5. The restroom was filthy (we came on a Thursday night at around 9:00) 6. Our waiter was very nice and he deserves the three stars. I will not be returning! read more

"There is a culinary dimension beyond that which is known to many. It is a dimension as crowded as the galactic core and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between Cafe Express and Baba Yega's, between fast food and haute cuisine, and it lies between the pit of man's stomach and the summit of his appetite. This is the dimension of the happy palate. It is an area which we call the Hungry's Zone." --Dolph Serling Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo... Dolph W, age forty-eight, engineering consultant and Yelp reviewer. Successful in most things but not in the one effort that all men try at some time in their lives - eating a healthy lunch every day. And also like all men perhaps there'll be an occasion - maybe in summer, just before noon - when he'll look up from what he's doing and listen to the distant music of a calliope, and hear the voices and the laughter of the people and the places of his past. And perhaps across his mind there'll flit a little errant wish, that a man might not have to become old, never outgrow the parks and the merry-go-rounds of his youth. And he'll smile then too because he'll know it is just an errant wish, some wisp of memory not too important really, some laughing ghosts that cross a man's mind when his stomach is growling - that are a part of the Hungry's Zone. (Stolen from "Walking Distance" which aired October 30, 1959) Hungry's on Memorial moved from their old "zone" to this new one in 2007 and it took them about 3-4 months to get everything sorted out. They seem to have and now boast an establishment that can feed many more than their previous location on Memorial or their Rice Village restaurant. Still, during a weekday lunch, their parking lot is a nightmare worse than one you'd find in the Twilight Zone and you should come early to beat the crowds. The fact they have crowds every day is a testament to their popularity in the Energy Corridor. If you were to benchmark Hungry's against similar eateries on the West Side, you'd find it a step up in both quality and price from Cafe Express and Jason's Deli. You order at the counter, but a waiter will deliver the meal to your table. As far as fare is concerned, Hungry's has cornered the chicken breast and black bean market. It seems that over half of their entrees includes one of these. Being a guy whose appetite can always be found in the breast and buns...er...beans zone, I find Hungry's a great answer to my cravings. Specifically, I love their black bean soup, their Baja chicken wrap (which includes black beans), and, when I'm looking for something more substantial, their Rigatoni Rustica (which surprisingly has neither breasts nor beans). The dinner experience here is much less crowded, but somehow less satisfying. Their wine list is mediocre and their entrees belong in the lunch zone. Contributing to their solid four-star rating is their community activism - each year they provide a college scholarship to a Stratford High School student. If I ate in the Hungry's Zone more often with all its heart healthy offerings, not growing old might not be such an errant wish. read more

I actually enjoy Hungry's food and atmosphere at the Memorial location; however, the manager (Sarbod, I believe is how it is spelled) is rude, impatient, and severely lacking in his customer service skills. Although I've eaten in the restaurant many times, we also enjoy ordering to-go. On this particular occasion, I decided to try the online ordering application that they have started to offer. I mistakenly placed the order for the Rice Village location, so I called their restaurant to have the order transferred to Memorial. They were great about the issue. However, when I called the Memorial location to confirm that they had received the transfer order I spoke with a woman first, who had to understandably place me on hold to check for the order. A second man then answered a few minutes later to inquire as to why I was on hold. I explained the issue again and he placed me on hold to check the status of the order. Again, understandable. A few minutes after that, a third man then answered (Sarbod, the manager) who abruptly interrupted me during my explanation and stated that they had received the order (in an annoyed tone). When I thanked him and asked for his name, he once again interrupted me and stated that he was the manager and spelled his name quickly twice. I sarcastically thanked him for his patience and he hung up on me without any closing. I assume it was busy being a Saturday night (although, it was early...5:50 p.m.), but being the manager, I would've expected a bit more professionalism. Hence, the three stars. read more

Over priced breakfast!! I asked if they could eliminate an ingredient in the Migas and his response was they couldn't because it is pre-made. PRE-MADE? I'm sorry that's disgusting. I have never had Migas that where pre-made. In a place where the prices are that high for just some eggs and fruit you should be making all of your dishes fresh. We also had the Croissant French Toast. Not good and disappointing. It doesn't even come with a side of eggs or anything... What a waste. There are many great breakfast spots and in Houston, I suggest you try one of those. Ps: get some pancakes on your menu.... Pss: Listening to Jay Z rap about Beyoncé ass is not enjoyable to listen to while eating breakfast with your grandmother. Seriously.... Inappropriate. read more

I found my new weekend breakfast spot!! To preface, I usually prefer to cook breakfast vs dining out however when we have company in town we need a place to take them for breakfast/brunch before sending them on their way. Hungry's has earned this coveted spot in my book! Our party of 12 (including 3 kids) was seated promptly and received wonderful service. Along with the fabulous food (which I'll get to momentarily) I enjoyed being able to not feel rushed by the waiters and bus staff to eat our food and get out. It's not every day that I get to be in the company of so many wonderful people and to not feel like we like we were taking up too much real estate made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Now the food....I've been thinking about how delicious it was for about a week. I got the croissant egg sandwich which was perfection and I *never* eat "egg sandwiches". I'm not quite sure what inspired me this particular morning to get one but I'm so glad I did. The croissant was the perfect buttery flakey combo add a few slices avocado and my tummy is happy :) I can't wait to come back! read more

Not sure what the big fuss is about Hungry's. It's an average diner-like place to get large portions of food. It's definitely quantity over quality, but at least you know you won't walk out...hungry. Ba dum tshhhh. Whenever I order salad, the bowl-shaped plate, which is bigger than my face, is piled up with mounds of food. The food is okay, but there's nothing spectacular or special about it. There are so many good restaurants in the area that I wouldn't come back to Hungry's willingly. The service is pretty good, even when they're busy. They are attentive and quick to bring out what you need. But the servers can be forgetful sometimes and bring out an extra salad or soup. read more

Hungry's - Clear liquid brunch. - New American Near Me - Houston, Texas

Come in hungry! Cause if you don't be prepared for disappointment! I give credit for offering a lot of choices on a brunch/lunch type of menu. It has all the right items to make a great brunch restaurant. What's the problem? It doesn't taste good! Or maybe, I just ordered the wrong items. For myself, I ordered an Eggs Benedict. I love me some eggs benny, but when I had him at Hungry's, he was not up to par. Don't get me wrong, I still ate my food, but the eggs were not poached all the way and I had two thin slices of ham slapped on. Don't even get me started on the hollandaise sauce. Or should I say lack of. What the hell? NEXT PLEASE. Then I tried my skillet potatoes. Question- why is there tons of paprika covering my food? Is it to disguise the fact that other than paprika, there is basically just oil and potatoes? I think so. It comes with a side of fruit and you can't go wrong with fruits. Thank the lord. My friend ordered an omelet. I didn't try it, just because he didn't rave about it. His feelings are the same, it is "A-OK"! And we are not picky/snooty eaters so don't try to correct us! I've been told their bellinis are good. So maybe, that is a good suggestion? I know I won't be coming back here to try their bellinis. Hungry's is really a 2, but because of their attempt to present you a well- balanced meal and variety, I will up them a star. read more

The problem at Hungry's on Memorial is parking. This location used to be a Souper Salad, so it did not have a huge number of spaces to start with, but it was mostly adequate for their dining room. Then Hungry's decided to open the Next Door bar, which shares the same parking lot. The bar immediately attracted the happy hour crowd, and they arrive in separate cars and hog all of the parking so diners are left high and dry. We live very close by, and have attempted to eat at Hungry's several times, only to find no parking, so we left. As we pass the dining room we can see that it is quite empty so we know it's the younger drinking crowd that fill all of the parking spots. Since we had our last failed attempt to dine here, they have now rearranged their parking lot yet again, and the entire back lot is now valet parking only. The valet parking used to be up front with a few spaces also at the back, and the rest was self-park. Now if you want to eat at Hungry's you'd better be prepared to add a few more dollars for a tip, and to wait for your car at the end of your meal. For a restaurant that started out as a small sandwich shop on Kirkwood, with beer cases on one wall and not that many tables, they sure are acting like a much fancier restaurant than they really are. I like the food in general (although it can be pricey depending on what you order) but I am not going to tip a valet in addition to the bill, for this very local and somewhat specialized menu. Good luck to Hungry's, we'll pass from now on. read more

We went here for brunch last Sunday. I'd been here before for dinner, but never during a Sunday brunch. It was packed, but we didn't have to wait for a table. Our waitress came over pretty quickly and got our drink orders. By the time she came back, we were ready to order. I ordered the migas with a side of chicken sausage, my boyfriend ordered the gyro plate with a side of soup. Easy enough, right? We had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for our food to be delivered. I understand the place was super busy, so that didn't really piss me off. We were just incredibly hungry. When our food finally came, we each got our entrees (delivered by another waitperson) but with no chicken sausage and no soup. Disappointed, we started eating, figuring she'd be back to check on us or that our additional items were on their way. My boyfriend also wanted to order another serving of pita bread, as his entree only came with two. We literally ate all of our food without anyone coming to check on us, despite multiple exaggerated efforts to make eye contact, wave, and eventually CALL OUT to our waitress as she passed by. I was beginnning to feel she was intentionally ignoring us! Finally I flagged down another server and requested the pita bread. I also asked him to send our server over, because if the soup and sausage were not on their way already, we were ready to cancel them. Many additional minutes passed. No server and no pita bread! Finally, my boyfriend STOOD UP and WALKED over to our server. She apologized and said that the soup/sausage did not come out beacuse another server had delivered her food for her. I don't understand this logic, because if you entered our order right it would all be on one ticket, right? And if not, once you saw us eating SANS sausage and soup, that should remind you to grab those items for us, right? Anyway, we are not complainers in general, but this service was downright terrible. The food itself- better than average. I really loved my meal! The experience was badly tainted by the service experience, though. read more

I had my bridal "brunch" here. It was really the only place that I could find open for brunch with table service by 9am on a Saturday! But, that was the time that I needed so this was the restaurant I chose. Well, since we came right when the restaurant opened, we had the greatest service ever! We were one of two tables being served (the other was outside in the patio area). It was 7 girls and everything was prompt and fast. We made reservations but of course, none was needed. We got carafes of mimosas for $20 each. Each was enough to fill at least 6 glasses. We ordered off the brunch menu, which includes all classic brunch items such as omelettes, french toast, eggs benedict, etc. There was a bar in the middle of the restaurant with bread, butter, and jelly/jam if you were interested. We all had a great time! The only complaint was that the eggs were cooked a little too much for the eggs benedict (and thus not runny). Other than that, we loved the place and would surely go back for brunch! I haven't been here for dinner or lunch so can't comment on that! read more

When I used to live on this side of town, Hungry's in their old location was one of my favorite spots. I was little when it was called Hungry Int'l - I thought that meant something along the lines of you were "hungry until" you ate there. Older, wiser, and with Hungry's Cafe in a new location, I still think it's as good as ever. When I eat here, it's usually lunch time, as opposed to their Rice location where I eat for brunch or dinner. I usually go for the Baja Chicken Wrap, with grilled chicken, avocado, and black beans. And on a hot day, the accompanying ice-cold iceberg wedge salad with jalapeño ranch is refreshing. Most recently I was here for lunch on a Wednesday, and I happened to notice that on special was a Ginger Honey Glazed Salmon Wrap for $9 instead of a normal 12. Expertly cooked salmon with a sweet glaze that perfectly contrasted the savory bacon in a wrap with lettuce and avocado, along with that delicious wedge. I highly recommend it. In a heavily residential part of town, this place is often packed with suburbanites, but it has a communal vibe, and you can order just as easily at the counter as you can sitting down with a waiter. I was certainly hungry until I came here. read more

I ordered from Hungry's yesterday for Mother's Day as my mom wanted something brought in. We've been eating and ordering Hungry's for over 20 years and in the past it was excellent! Unfortunately the last three times we've ordered from them has been a disaster!! Even our very kind driver agreed that the service is pathetic. It's very sad that we will NEVER order from them again. I will say that they are consistent...at screwing up the delivery orders. Now, with that being said, I do want to mention the food is great quality and dining-in is pleasant without problems. We are very sad as a family and hope that one day the service will remind us of why we loved Hungry's delivery. read more

Cute place! Interesting mix of Mediterranean but with pizza & burgers. I had the Baja Chicken Wrap. I have been to Hungry's many times and have enjoyed it but the food on this visit was the worst I had ordered. I had the salmon on toast. I expected crisp toast and being able to place cream cheese and capers on it myself. The toast arrived with smoked salmon covered with this messy chipotle cream cheese. The toast was soggy with the sauce and I tried to rescue the smoked salmon off the toast. I do not recommend ordering this concoction at all. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant and the servers were pleasant. I just hated the food I ordered. The potatoes were good. Bottom line - don't order the salmon on soggy toast item. read more

The Memorial location of Hungry's is very consistent. My office relies heavily on them for lunch (2-3 visits each week). Take-out orders are always quick and complete, and they pack everything just so. I'm kind of a fan of the soup and salad combo. Greek salad (dressing on the side or it will be swimming - but for take-out it's automatically on the side) and black bean soup with their light and fluffy pita bread isn't a bad mid-day ritual. Their sandwiches are pretty good, too, (the California especially) but much like Cafe Express I've heard mixed things about their enrees. The mint iced tea is mmmmmm. The guys at my office love their desserts, too - Hungry's tempts you with pre-packed slices that stare at you from a refrigerated case while you wait to pick up your food. Portions are reasonable, on the large side of being normal. Decor is minimal and sorta artsy, atmosphere is casual and a little dull. Parking is great here - free valet at lunch, reserved parking for takeout pickup. read more

Went here on a Saturday night with a party of 8. Place was not really packed. One of my cousins and I got shammed! Don't know whether to give the waitress props for tricking us or be upset that we were tricked. I think I might have to give her props. We ordered Strawberry Lemonades, and after finishing off our glasses, the waitress came by asking if we'd like another glass. You'd assume that means refill, right? Nooo. Not free refills. There goes another $3 for another glass. Should have listened to my other cousin, who warned us that she used to word it that way at her old waitressing job and charge customers. In the end, we couldn't get mad or upset because it was pretty funny to us..and what's another $3? Our waitress was pretty somber. I don't think we saw her crack a smile even once. She seemed like she had no energy. Mopey and tired. She brought us dirty small plates when she brought out our Spinach Aritchoke Dip. I ordered the Penne Rustica and Wedge Salad. When she brought out my entree, there was no salad in sight. First off, I kind of expected my salad to come out before my entree, but it didn't even come out WITH my entree. I had to ask for it. After all of our entrees were brought it, she pretty much disappeared until we asked for our checks. My Penne Rustica was bland. I took a few bites and kept trying to push myself to continue eating it. I added tabasco, cheese, salt & pepper to try to add flavor. I finished maybe 1/4 of my dish. I sure cleaned up my wedge salad, though. That was good, but how can you go wrong with a chunk of iceberg with dressing? read more

Initially I was not a big fan of this place. Quality of food and selection has improved tremendously. Good variety of sandwiches, entrees, salads and small plates. On a decent day nice patio to sit out to eat. Biggest downside to this location is parking. So if dining for lunch, I would suggest showing up at 11:30am to avoid the rush and limited spaces. Otherwise valet parking is always the default. read more

Hungry's is one of my favorite West Houston neighborhood restaurants. It's one of the few cafe style places in the area. They serve great wraps, especially the baja wrap and the garden of eatin wrap. I rarely order anything else, because I usually go there when I am craving one of the wraps. I like the fact that the food tastes great and I still feel healthy when I eat there. They also have great carrot cake and strawberry lemonade too! read more

Last Saturday I thought I'd try out Hungry's for brunch hoping i would find a that place i could take my friends. Not Happening! I ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict with herb roasted potatoes. The presentation was not bad. My first bite was the potatoes. They were cold, stale, and hard as if its been left out over night and heated up in the microwave insufficiently. I then asked to get some new potatoes, to which the waitress says its not allowed. She offered to take my whole plate to heat up the potatoes. Doing so would have cooked my eggs benedict. Enough about potatoes. The crab cakes were frozen - heated up to serve. So it seems like the only thing they cooked were the eggs. My girlfriend ordered the croissant french toast. Can't go wrong with french toast right? Except they poured the syrup in there for her already, leaving the french toast soaked and less to desire. Staff there was unwelcoming and unknowledgeable. The hostess was having a bad morning already or something. Our waitress seemed lost in her job. We asked her if we could have some jam. She looked confused. We asked what kind of jam they had. She didn't know. She had to go and look to tell us they had strawberry, raspberry, and orange. seriously? end of the story: not coming back and I don't recommend it. read more
