Visiting Houston this week and we wanted a fresh salad so had dinner at Salata tonight. I really wish we had something like this in South Florida. I remember Sweet Tomatoes buffets in Fort Lauderdale, but those have all but closed near us and they progressively declined over time. Salata is different. NOT a self-serve buffet. All food choices are visible and you can make your selections in front of the glass while a server builds your fresh salad in front of you. Meat, no meat, all manner of toppings, dressings, etc. The place was clean, with a basic, smart design. I enjoyed it immensely because a salad place should be clean and easy to navigate. Coming from Chicago, my go to salad location was Sweetgreen. While Salata doesn't even come close to the quality Sweetgreen's salads, they do have a larger variety of ingredients. Especially when it comes to proteins. I ordered a salad that had roasted and Chipotle flavored Chicken, shrimp and salmon (I like a garbage salad) and it was pretty good. I didn't physically go into Salata so I can't speak much for the in-store experience. Overall, I would order from here again but I am still on the quest to find a Sweetgreen equivalent here in Houston. read more

Instead, come down to Ex-salata. Some Salata locations are brilliant, whereas others are just a "Shell-ata" of the better ones. This is one of my favourite locations anywhere. If it weren't for the one on Weslayan, it would be my favourite location in the world, and even in all of Houston ;) It was one of the first where I found them serving the wonderful Croissants instead of the old crap bread. They have Kalamata olives whereas most Salatas just have green and black. They give much bigger portions than most locations, and it might actually be the original one in town based on a couple of things I noticed. It's all the way out on the Energy Corridor, but it is pretty convenient, right next to the Katy Freeway, so it's not too far out of the way - especially if we're going to Katy which we often try to do (for Boba, lol). We're absolutely in love with this Salata, in any case, and we will definitely be back here on many future occasions. Some of the employees here really like me too, and have been very nice and flirty with me. I've had them complimenting both my physique and Barbie's hair/nails/shoes/glam look. It's a nice big lobby and a great place to hang out and eat salad, and it puts all other salad chains to shame honestly. I just wish It didn't close so much earlier than Weslayan, especially on Sundays. There's really no better salad chain than Salata in the whole country, and this is one of the very best examples of how good it is. I prefer Snakes And Ladders to Snakes And Salatas. But I'll tell you about that ladder on. Salata offers a bountiful selection to appease anyone's desires. I won't say it's the most affordable, but at least it's fresh and has a vast selection of seasoned delicious protein choices. Unfortunately, the reason I'm giving a 3 star review is because I chose this location due to their nice patio. However, on a warm day in Houston with an 80 + degree temperature,the employees told me the patio was closed. I even offered to cleanup behind myself and wipe the tables and chairs down ,but she refused and said the chairs were locked up. To my dismay, I had to go across the street and eat their sumptuous salad in the constraints of my car. Let me start by saying how impressed I am with Salata! It was my first time visiting and I couldn't have had a better experience. I chose this location because despite having to go a little bit out of the way, they received 100 for their Health Score. Some of the other locations didn't even have an 80. When I walked in, I was surprised at how empty it was. There were only two small groups dining in and what seemed to be some sort of business meeting going on. Someone immediately greeted me and asked what I would like. I explained to them it was as my first time at Salata and asked for a minute to look over my options. I went with a regular-sized salad with Salata mix. Going down the line, the first worker explained that it was my first time so as to warn the next worker to be patient while I decided what I wanted. I'm happy he said something because the person adding toppings was super kind and gave great suggestions based on personal favorites and what was popular with other customers. I was offered salad dressings to try and even some of the various chicken options. The Asian bbq chicken tasted good but I chose the spicy chipotle chicken instead. Both chicken options were an extra $3 whereas the premium meat options (salmon and turkey) were an extra $4. I loved both the Fresh Herb Vinegarette and Spicy Chipotle Ranch salad dressings. Overall I'm glad I chose this location as opposed to some of the others because the customer service was impeccable, 10/10! My salad was perfect! 3 stars with flaws..I have a love / semi-hate relationship with Salata. I describe this place to friends as "think Subway but for salads." With that said, it's a cool addition to the concept and I can put together a meeeaaaan salad combination! *pats self on the back* Good variety of options from lettuce, fruits, nuts, dressings to the optional meat selections. If the lettuce comes out a bag, I don't see the big deal. I'm sure they go through a ton of it with lines out the door constantly at lunch time. Which brings me to my first minor gripe. This place is super small and that hungry lunch crowd "ain't no joke." 2nd gripe and this one isn't so minor. Are the salad preparers' paychecks based on the amount of each item they give you? Good Gawd, I always have to ask for a bit more of certain things because they literally put a teaspoon amount of each item you request. I've said extra olives and I still get a mini handful of about 5. Just an observation: am I the only person that noticed they only have one race of people working here? *weird* You can sample the dressings but I'm in love with the balsamic vinaigrette! I used to always have 5 star feeling when I come here , today is the first day I came back to order take out after quarantine, I didn't have a good experience, the music is so loud I couldn't hear what the person asking me about , the woman who picked the food for me was not patient at all , she was all grumpy and kept moving so fast and skipping some of the section while I am still looking , I was very frustrated. Out of all of the toppings you offer I get 5 toppings. And you didn't mention how the meat/seafood (seafood mix is my preference) literally not even a spoonful. When I ask for a little more of that the attitude of the worker is ALWAYS "that's going to be extra" (with a look of "I bet you do 't want more now"). It just makes for an uncomfortable situation because now I am being looked at as a problem customer when I am not receiving a full portion that I am paying for in the first place. I have just 2 complaints: - Considering the number of vegetarians and vegans who eat there, they should do a better job at listing the vegan/vegetarian items and educating the servers about the same. I was once told Brocolli soup is vegetarian and I consumed it, only to ask for it the next time and being told it contains chicken broth. - There is never a parking spot available at this location during peak lunch time. This rating is based purely on their customer service, respect and deceptive pricing. After making my way down the entire ordering line there was a small section that had quinoa listed with no price next to it, which on every other part of the line indicated there was no up charge. However when I checked out there was three dollars added to my order for it. I pointed out to the cashier that it did not have a price next to it and he told me I was wrong. He did nothing to try to help or address the situation other than tell me I needed to pay. I did and when I went back down the line I double checked and when I pointed it out to one of the line workers they moved the magnet with a price over to quinoa to make it more clear and said sorry. Still nothing was done to correct my order charge. This is disappointing as we return to the office to work I would make this a regular stop however after this treatment I don't see myself coming back. Everyone knows that I am an avid lover of meats, fats, and starches, but when all of it starts catching up to me (generally in the booty region), I come to Salata. Salata by itself is very tasty, however, I've come up with a few tricks to take it into overdrive. I like to do sort of a Southwestern Asian salad by combining the ginger lime dressing and chipotle ranch, field greens and romaine lettuce, tomatoes, black beans, corn, and cilantro. If I'm ballin, then sometimes I'll add avocado. Mixing the dressings is key, and I think coming with a game plan for your mix of ingredients is also a good idea... And you will definitely have time to think about your selection in line during the lunch hour. Salata in the Energy Corridor just about guarantees a long line through the door if you don't get there before 11am. My second trick has to do with the tomato soup. I always ask for a scoop of shredded parmesan inside and then order the chipotle bread. Thus, I rip the chipotle bread into crouton sized pieces and let them sit and soak in the soup. It's AMAZING. The parmesan melts into the soup and the bread acts like a flavor sponge. This Salata, in particular, isn't as generous on the portions as other ones I've been to. Don't be afraid to ask them not to skimp on the greens and the dressing. Trust me, you'll want to ask for it in the line instead of waiting til after you've paid. The lunch rush ain't nothin to mess with. Review of my Salata secrets: 1. Get there before 11am to avoid the line 2. Don't be afraid to mix your dressings and your greens (Lime ginger + Chipotle ranch = Southwest Asian Dressing) 3. Think of good flavor combos instead of just piling on the ingredients. 4. Kick the tomato soup up a notch by adding parmesan and "chipotle bread croutons" 5. Don't be afraid to ask for more greens, dressings, or toppings. The other Salatas generally give more than this location. If you use those tips, you're guaranteed to become a raging Salata addict like me. read more

I appreciate the vast selection of fresh ingredients, and I appreciate the fact that they post calorie content for each one. At Salata, you work your way through an assembly line of sorts, selecting the ingredients you want as their servers build your salad according to your specifications. There are ample veggies, cheeses and proteins from which to choose. They also offer soup and bread as accompaniments. And you're not bound by salad: you can have your salad made into a wrap if you prefer. One thing to be aware of: while most of the ingredients are included in the price of your salad, some carry an extra price tag. Those items are clearly marked, but if you're not watching for them you might find yourself with a bit of sticker shock at the register. This location shares a small parking lot with a few other businesses, including a very good Chinese restaurant; thus, parking at the peak of the lunch hour can be challenging. I've never been so excited about salad in my whole life!!! As a vegan most people assume that all I eat is salad, and it annoys me because salad is the last thing I want to eat at most restaurants because a "salad" ends up being just lettuce and tomatoes and mostly non vegan dressings to choose from. That's not a meal. But the salad you get at Salata is going to be bright, fresh, delicious and FILLING! Like a real meal should be! It's set up like a lot of build-your-own places (ex. Chipotle) You pick a bowl size and go down the line as an employee builds your salad. The staff at this location are very friendly and were happy to tell me about Salata as I told them this was my first visit. I will definitely be going back!
