Thai with a twist. Service and atmosphere: The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Our waiter answered the questions about some dishes which helped us make order choices. The restaurant was spacious and clean. Food and drinks: You can find here typical Thai dishes, however, the owner explained to us during our chat, that they try to make the foods different than in other restaurants. Ex., Khao Soi is served here with short rib rather than chicken and kimchi replaces sour pickled mustard greens. The pasta was sourced from local Italian family business. The dish was really good overall. Same goes for special Pla Ra dish with fermented fish. It provides a deep, foundational umami flavor to dishes like green papaya salad. The only downside were Brussels sprouts. They were served way too raw. We had them re done but they still need more cooking. Pricing: $$ - standard and worth the experience. read more

Good Thai spot in the Energy Corridor area. The inside is really nice, probably too nice, it feels as if it was for a restaurant in Upper Kirby or perhaps the Heights. But I'm not complaining! Staff are friendly and service was good. We ordered the tom kha, larb, and green curry. Flavor-wise very tasty, and excellent spice level. Larb was perhaps a little too salty, so recommend getting rice with it. The tom kha and green curry both had chicken, which didn't absorb enough of the flavor, but likely a downside of providing various protein options for most items. Pricing is fair. Restrooms were clean, and parking is spacious. read more

My wife and I had dinner here this past weekend. The restaurant setting is nice. Nothing too fancy but they tried to spruce it up a bit to feel more ethnic, and the restaurant was very clean. The service was very good. They don't have their alcohol license yet so BYOB. Overall, the food was generally good. We had: Tsunami (4/5) - A soup that was sort of like Tom Yum but creamier. Bit portion and lots of seafood in it. Chicken Wrapped (2.5/5) - This was the only miss. The flavor was okay but so salty! Pad Thai (4/5) - Good flavors but the noodles were a bit overcooked. Thai Basil Beef (3.5/5) - Okay flavors. Beef was cut into strips but a bit too big. The sauce tasted a bit too much like soy sauce. Overall, a good meal. read more

Don't sleep on the Houston Restaurant week deal! Best value at $39. Most restaurants give you cheap, mediocre foods to try. Zaab Der did an amazing job with their selections. Prix fixe menu really showcases their uniqueness with amazing quality. Sizes were ample. Softshell crab appetizer was cooked perfectly. Tried the Tiger Cry and Kao Soy (Short Rib with curry pasta) both were perfectly cooked and delicious. Ordered a side of sticky rice to go with the Tiger Cry. Recommend bringing a friend to share dishes. The Mango mousse Dome was nice. Ube cheesecake was OK. But the coconut ice cream was perfect. This is a restaurant you would pay full price for and definitely keep coming back. Outside of the shopping center is nothing fancy. They spend the money creating great quality food. read more

I was craving for some Thai food and this place popped up on recommended, but what drove me here was the interior atmosphere and then the food makes me wonder why it wasn't busy on a Saturday night? If you are looking for a fancy Thai dinner date, this place is perfect! I tried a variety of appetizers, the crab cake is made of real meat so it's tender yet firm, got a taste of the sea in my mouth. The sausage is definitely made in house by looking at the shape and the refreshing seasoning, it's not so sour compared to other places that I've tried. And they bursts juiciness every bite so careful on first bite. Tom yum soup was fragrantly spiced, very hearty to drink on a cold day. Lastly, the duck curry was very delicious too. Crispy skin with the chewy meat, nicely flavored and not dry to eat. The curry is sweet and tangy, not too heavy to eat. Service was fast and they are very friendly. Eve though I was dining alone, they still checked up on me multiple times and making sure food tasted well for me. I would highly recommend here for a casual yet fancier Asian dinner date. The parking lot may look like need some upgrading but the interior is really nice I promise. read more

First time trying this place and I am so impressed. The owner/chef and Tina are friendly nice and very attentive. The foods are authentic as I requested and came out on point. Ambiance is really nice and place is very clean. We ordered so much and ate them all before I could take pictures omg so good. Definitely will invite friends and family to come back again soon. Thanks for a fabulous lunch today. read more

I'll keep it quick: - Tom Kha: Delicious. I will have to restrain myself to not order it next time - Drunken Noodles: Best in the area? - Red curry: Better than the green - Green curry: So-so. The ambiance is nice, and I love that they are open relatively late to the other restaurants on this part of Memorial Drive. They only have one waiter working at lunch time, which got EXTREMELY busy. He had his hands full, and we waited 20 mins for the check. Nice guy, but he couldn't talk long! The gratuity was automatically included on the check. I'm not sure that the waiter keeps the tip. read more

I have been a loyal customer here for a long time and have always had a positive experience. I have never had any issues with the service or my orders until today. Today, I was served by a new employee. I ordered Pad Thai with beef and requested a small amount of extra raw bean sprouts, along with Yum Seafood and Pepper Steak. My total came to $100.67. I have no problem paying that amount, as I have placed larger orders here many times before. However, I was surprised to see an additional $5 charge for the small amount of raw bean sprouts, which was listed on the receipt as "steamed mixed vegetables." Raw bean sprouts and steamed mixed vegetables are two completely different items. I explained to the employee that I have ordered extra raw bean sprouts here many times and have never been charged for them before. Unfortunately, my concern did not seem to be taken seriously. This is not about the $5. It is about being charged for something I did not order and receiving consistent and fair treatment as a longtime customer. I hope management will review this situation and clarify the restaurant's policy regarding additional ingredients so that customers are charged accurately in the future. I value this restaurant and have continued coming back because I have always enjoyed the food and service. I hope this experience was simply a misunderstanding and that it can be handled better going forward. read more

I ordered a chicken pad see ew for takeout. It was pretty standard. I think it could've been a bit more saucy and flavorful. I like mine to have a nice spicy kick. The chicken was regular old white meat. The portion was an okay amount for the price I paid. The inside of the restaurant has nice decor, so I think it'd be a cute date night spot. read more

Zaab Der - Pad See Ew - Thai Near Me - Houston, Texas

Always great food!! Has been my go to for Thai in the far west Memorial area. All the dish I've had are nothing short of excellent. Green Curry is my favorite, with Massaman coming in with a close second. Spring rolls with shrimp were as good as any I've had at the Vietnamese restaurants. The Green Pipaya Salad is outstanding and "hot". I suggest you stay away from "Thai Hot" at Zaab Der, it's VERY hot, enough to kill your taste buds for the evening. read more

Very cute inside!! Service was good. We didn't go all out with the menu, so it's hard to say overall how the food is. We just wanted a quick lunch and most items were $$. I got the Pad See Ew with chicken and daughter got the Massamum (?) curry with rice. Strawberry Matcha Latte and Thai Tea. I've had better versions of these dishes and drinks closer to home. It's a one and done for me. read more

Planning a trip to Thailand and HRWeeks? You gather the team and head here. We stuck to the dinner menu and experienced a wealth of options with appetizers ranging from chive cakes (oh my) to crab dumplings there was plenty to enjoy. Our mains involved tender steak and slow cooked braised beef over some zingy egg noodles that filled the stomach and the soul. Even dessert was delicious and stunning with the lemon cake taking a backseat to the mango mouse in a chocolate globe. This was an outstanding HRW find. read more

Don't let the somewhat forbidding surroundings and interior deter. Located in a Class-B type strip mall along Dairy Ashford, south of I-10, this place surprises one pleasantly. Despite the dated 1980s decor and less than pleasing furniture, the welcome was warm and service prompt. Ordered Thai iced coffee, Isan Sausage, and Veg Soft Rolls as starters, followed by Tofu Prik Khing, Chicken Red Curry, and Tofu Green Curry for mains. Food arrived promptly and was tasty and plentiful - spice levels were on point (ordered "spicy"). Overall, a satisfying dinner that set us back $82 including an 18% tip. Worth frequenting if one is in one area. read more

The food here is extremely flavorful and the presentation is just as good! I've had several dishes here but my favorite so far was the steak curry! A nice tender steak in very delicious broth. The idea sounded unique to me and I've been blow away by it since giving it a try. The pad see ew khaki soi are other favorites but honestly the meat in all every dish on the menu is so tender that you can't go wrong with anything. I highly recommend the Esan sausage and the curry puffs as appetizers. The service here was excellent! It's get busy during the lunch hour but they've added extra help. The crew is always friendly and smiles and definitely attentive. My glass has never got below half. The place is always nice and clean! Excellent experience, saucy pad Thai, good portion size for the crab fried rice. Zaab wings were a good shareable appetizer and pad see ew veggies were top notch. I called over the phone to place an order to let them know we were in a rush for lunch, when we walked in, it was full of lunch goers, we still managed to get out in time. Service was excellent, they checked in on us, and got our check out in a timely manner. They also let us know that the mango sticky rice takes about 5-10 min to come out. The table liked it so much we tried to get 5 orders to-go! Ending the meal with a warm dessert just makes your heart full ya know? We ordered pad Thai, wings, cheese puff, crab fried rice, pad see ew, curry with noodles. Everything was a hit. Would definitely return. Interior is modern, plenty of parking, and yeaaaa can't wait to come back! read more

I think I had high expectations based on reading yelp reviews...and the food was visually appealing,, but did I come on an off day...? The eggrolls were ok taste, but like still a little cold inside even though the outside was crispy and hot. The pad see ew was really oily. I liked that they cut up the greens into small pieces. It wasn't that it lacked flavor...but that the flavor seemed to be at the center, leaving the outer portions a bit lacking. The pad thai was...off. Like I don't even know how to describe it. Like they cooked it in old oil? Used not the freshest beef? Added a little bit too much of one ingredient? It wasn't nasty, but unlike any pad thai I've ever had. I would say it felt similar to when you burn something, except the noodles itself was not burned. It was unpleasant. I would not eat here again. read more

Red Curry is amazing!! So is the mango sticky rice! Very clean place with great ambiance.

I came here for a work lunch and got some musman curry, which had onion, potato, chicken, peanuts, and coconut milk. The curry itself was incredibly flavorful, and their rice was particularly delicious - maybe mixed with some coconut milk? A fair warning - their "standard" flavor was incredibly spicy for me, so next time I would order it mild. Also, the dishes came out in a weird order, and at times, it was hard to flag down folks. Overall, I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for their thai food fix in a convenient location at an affordable price. read more

We had such a relaxing time and the food also pretty awesome! I ordered the spicy chicken stir fry with white rice. Super good taste and everything a stir fry should be. We also ordered the egg rolls for an appetizer. Delicious and fresh tasting. My friend ordered the pad thai dish with chicken; medium hot. She said it was HOT. I use to enjoy takeout and the food here, but my past three takeout orders has got smaller and smaller for the price you pay now at restaurants. I'm noticing a lot of Asian restaurants to go orders containers and quantity has gotten smaller and cost has gone up!! I enjoy the drunken noodles and the NAM KHOA (Crispy Rice), but it's a shame the amount rice you get for $18!!! I have container filled and the rest is lettuce! That's crazy for a few scoops of fried crispy rice n a little pork in it for18!!! Never again!!! Also the to go noodles dish are not worth the cost! If I decide to go back, I'll dine in and see if there's a different! read more
