This is my first dine in experience in months! I had to go with pho, because the weather has been calling for it! Located inside the 99 Ranch Market, this is your go to casual pho restaurant after some serious shopping (or just because)! I say "restaurant", but it's not a full sit down service. You review the menu at the door/cashier counter and order at the cashier counter. Make sure to grab any drinks you want from the cooler. At the counter, you'll take the opportunity to grab your eating utensils, napkins, straws, etc. Make sure you communicate all your requests (a cup of ice, or extra whatever). Otherwise you'll have to go back up to the staff to ask. They don't come to you besides dropping off food. Pho was delicious with clean, clear broth. Meat was fresh and sliced to the right thickness. Eggrolls were piping hot, and served with the usual pickled veggies, romaine and dipping sauce. I've ordered takeout here many times and highly recommend their shaken tofu with white rice/vermicelli. It's tossed in a sweet, lemongrass sauce served with a little salad and vinaigrette. They also offer other traditional Vietnamese dishes like vermicelli, banh mi, rice, and noodle soups. P.S. Pho Quynh is tucked inside the 99 Ranch off Blalock and I-10. Parking is plentiful at first glance, but since the lot is shared with other small businesses in the strip center, it can get tight--unless you don't mind parking closer to Blalock and walking a bit. Just keep an eye out for the rogue shopping carts scattered around the lot. The restaurant looks small from the outside, but once you step in, it's actually a decent size. The food is solid--I've only had the pho, but that's what you're coming here for anyway. Houston has no shortage of great pho, especially if you're willing to drive out to Chinatown or Katy, but if you're looking for something closer, this spot delivers. I usually go for the XL bowl, which is no joke--it's big enough to feed two hungry adults. For around $20 with tax and tip, it's a pretty good deal. You do have to order at the counter, which means you'll face the infamous "iPad of shame" where your tip is displayed for the entire line to see (and yes, you're tipping before you've received any service). That said, the service has always been good for me--food comes out quickly, and staff are responsive if you need an extra bowl for sharing or a container for leftovers (and trust me, there are always leftovers with that XL). The place is reasonably clean, casual, and straightforward--probably not the setting for a business lunch or hot date, but perfect if you just want a comforting, no-frills bowl of pho. We pass by this so many times while shopping at Ranch 99. You can smell their pho broth brewing in the back and it smells so delicious until one day we finally decided to give it a try. Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised at how much we liked it. Their pho broth is so fragrant and on the sweeter side but it was yummy and stood out. Only complaint is their meat seems low quality and very tough to chew. If they could fix that, it'd be our favorite pho spot! Their broken rice (com tam) dishes were actually solid too. Some of the meats were tough and some were tender. Overall, good flavor. Their banh mi is simple with no thrills. Broken Rice / Com Tam had everything I expected it to - steamed eggs, pork skin, thick piece of pork chop, fried egg, and Chinese sausage. I thought the fish sauce could be a bit more salty, and the rice could use a bit less water when cooking (too soft) but I was just grateful to have something that tastes like home in this part of town. My friend got the Shaking Beef and it was also very good. Beef was juicy, tender, and fragrant. All came with plenty of vegetables and a bowl of chicken pho broth on the side. For around $12, I received a steaming bowl of well-done flank in delicious broth with the customary onions and bean sprouts. As someone who classifies themselves as a voracious eater, the regular bowl really hit the spot, and I would suggest that only the truly ravenous dare attempt the size of their larger bowls. A minor annoyance includes the fact that their meat comes "well-done" already as opposed to cooked in the broth, but other than that, no complaints. I see the same staff/family and I appreciate this because the service and food are consistent that way. The food here is OK, nothing to rave home about but it's not bad. I normally order their pho, wonton egg noodle soup, and spring rolls. I know some of their meat rice dishes can be hit or miss. This place was great! My partner ordered the lemongrass chicken vermicelli and said it was fantastic! I asked if they could make an off-menu adaptation to their bánh xèo and they were happy to. They made me tofu and vegetables version which was crispy, soft & flavorful. The lettuce wrap and pickled carrots were really fresh. They brought me fish sauce but when I asked if they had an alternative they came back with sriracha, soy sauce AND a vegan sauce that was amazing! Couldn't have been happier! The staff sanitized tables in between guests, provided sanitizer, had plastic dividers at the register, wore gloves and the 99 Ranch Market policy is Masks are required so they really got their covid policies down! read more

The food here is good, but the one lady with the short ponytail and glasses has a terrible attitude. We came in and there was a customer ordering togo. She was taking awhile and the one taking the order saw us standing there but did not acknowledge us. I kindly asked "hey, is it ok if we seat ourselves?" Since this is what we usually do when we come and they are busy. She very rudely tells me "you need to order at the counter!" To which I replied, "...but we are eating here?" She replies with the same answer, so I tell my family to sit down and pick what they want and I'll come back to the counter and order. Once they decided what they wanted, I came up to order, which happened to be with another worker. The rude worker from the beginning came out and started whispering smack about me, IN FRONT of me, to her coworker in Vietnamese. I'm guessing she didn't realized I spoke Vietnamese, even though my pronunciation of each dish was pretty obvious I spoke the language. Either that or she thought the plexiglass was sound proof. Anyways, I asked her to cancel my order immediately and yelled to my family across the dining in VIETNAMESE "let's go somewhere else to eat guys" Sorry you're having a bad day, but don't take it out on me. You chose to work in the food industry, I am nowhere near the kind of monster usual customers can be. The food is too expensive here to be dealing with that kind of attitude. I ordered the Fish cake vermicelli noodle soup (with dill) & special banh mi togo. The soup was surprisingly delicious, light, but flavorful. There was 3 pieces of fried fish cake, one piece of fried fish fillet & one pepper stuffed fish-cake with dill. The dish is very authentic Vn dish, so I won't recommend if you're not food-adventurous . The Banh mi was good, the bread is soft, I toasted it up at home and it's perfect! It's like my go to place for a quick lunch or dinner since it's located right on I10 and Blalock, and to me, it's a Great alternative location to go for a quick authentic Viet meal than driving all the way to Chinatown from inside the loop. The flavor was really authentic and it came with all the necessary ingredients and options for this dish such as egg pastes, fried eggs, shredded pork skin. Being born and raised in Vietnam, I joked with my husband that if a vietnamese restaurant offered you a side bowl of soup along with this rice plate, it is an authentic restaurant, because that's how it is served in Vietnam. Oh yeah, not to mention that they mixed the fish sauce to go with this dish very well. Very yummy. Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodles soup): this place offered a decent bun bo hue. Although it may not be the best you can find in town, it was definitely good enough to satisfied my bun bo hue craving every time. surprise surprise! I got the combination pho. Anywhere I get it. What can I say? I like the variety. I never come to this place. I always go to 99 ranch to buy groceries. I've always seen this place tucked away. My date and I were curious. It was cold out and it was perfect weather for soup. We decided to go in and see what's up. Worst case scenario we grab something quick and greasy and head home. We were in for a treat. The broth here is lovely and didn't really need any inclusions but I still added a bit of hoisin sauce for a bit of sweetness. It was lovely. They are taking all the covid precautions necessary to be open. Single serve packets of sauces, and seating everyone away from each other. The staff here were so polite and friendly. I have eaten here a few times on days that I am extremely lazy to drive down to Chinatown. Everything I tried was authentic enough for it to be passable and definitely better than majority of the Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The rice plate with pork chop or short ribs are both good. The pho is passable, the broth was good when it came with my rice plate, but when it was added to the pho noodles, the broth ends up being a bit watered down. The banh xeo is definitely the best. Highly recommend. Thankfully it hits the spot enough to save me a drive the Chinatown.
