My husband and I came for a date night, and from the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone for a great evening. The space is beautiful, inviting, and perfect for a night out. The food was exceptional. Every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Our favorites were the Appetizer Symphony, the Crispy Turmeric Whole Fish, and the Tom Yum Soup. The fish was perfectly cooked and crispy, and the soup had the perfect balance of spice and flavor. finally with the Whimsical Chocolate Tree . Makiin has a beautiful atmosphere and would be a great spot for a girls' lunch or date night. The host and our server were both friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially given the price point. The biggest disappointment was the Soft Shell Crab Papaya Salad, which costs $23. The menu photo clearly shows a fried soft shell crab, but our dish arrived without any visible crab at all. When I asked our server about it, I was told that the small fried bits sprinkled on top were the crab. They tasted more like dried shrimp than soft shell crab, which was confusing and disappointing considering how the dish was presented on the menu. We also ordered the Thai High Tea and expected the beautiful mango rose shown in the menu photos. Instead, it came with only a few tiny pieces of mango, which again did not match the menu images. Overall, I left feeling disappointed by the difference between expectation and reality. While the ambiance and service were great, the food and presentation did not justify the prices or align with what was advertised on the menu. read more

Went to MaKiin on a Sunday for their AYCE Thai food and I was pretty disappointed. The AYCE options really is just appetizers and all of the appetizers are just so cold. Not a single of them are hot even if they're on a warming plate which is jarring cause I'm sure if they were hot some dishes could be very good, but eating them cold just wasn't it for me. I will say the corn nuggets were probably my favorite but again I hated that it was cold. You're allowed one entree in the classic menu only (5 options). Since there was 4 of us we each ordered a different 1 to share. The fried rice is the exact same fried rice on the buffet so I recommend you don't order that. All of the entrees were very bland for Thai food. They don't even ask you for a spice level. Drunken noodles are usually my favorite but I was very disappointed. The fried chicken was probably the best thing on the menu, but doesn't really give off Thai food. Service was ok. Felt like it was hard to get them to refill the water. They forgot my drink order and I asked about it towards the end, and they were honest saying they forgot and brought it out free of charge which was very nice of them for admitting fault and being honest. We went here for our anniversary dinner on Thursday so that we can watch their Thai show. The decor is beautiful outside, the dining area, bar, the way to the bathroom, and also the bathroom. We were given hot towels to wash our hands at our table. Their menu is on the tablets that they bring to you. Since it was happy hour until 6:30, we ordered appetizers (corn fritters and papaya salad) and cocktails (hua hin mango, mystiny, and nakorn kopi). We also ordered Esan pork ribs, crispy garlic chicken (similar to General Tso's), Majestic Ocean Medley, and mango sticky rice. They also provided a mini-pandan cake to celebrate our anniversary. Each customer is able to select one entree which was a pleasant surprise to experience a true fulfillment. The food tasted clean, fresh, and hot out of the kitchen. Loved it here! I have been IG stalking it for quite sometime and finally gathered the crew to make it happen to celebrate a birthday. Ryan was great and then Lynn came along when things got busy to help out so we never felt neglected! This was an amazing experience. We went for happy hour which was not busy at all for a Friday. Hip, fun Thai restaurant in the Upper Kirby area. Light crowd so service was very attentive. The food presentation was creative and fun and ultimately delicious. My only critique would be their wine presentation. Not a big offering, more cocktails than wine selections. And very disappointing was their wine pour. They use a carafe system to measure wine for the pour and unlike many similar restaurants, they filled the carafe to about ¾ resulting in a much smaller pour than I normally experience with carafe pours. Their wine glasses were beautiful however, which for us wine snobs is important. Overall I recommend. I will visit again and will attempt to advocate for a more generous pour. read more

On our continued hunt for the perfect brunch buffet, we stopped in to check this place out. It was giving VIP from the start with the red carpet and grand door. The atmosphere is elaborate in the most amazing way. Gold and red cover the interior with so much attention to detail. Restrooms are clean and have individual towels to dry hands. I've had Makiin on my list of places to go but never realized how close it was to my office! My co-worker took me here for my birthday lunch and she literally called 10 minutes before for a reservation and a table to celebrate my birthday lunch. When we arrived, we were greeted and escorted to our table that had a cute sign saying "happy birthday vicky!" It was so personal and I appreciate all the effort! we ordered 4 dishes to share between the 2 of us, and we also asked the waitress for her recommendations as well. Everything we got was delicious and we definitely over ordered, so I took the rest home. For dessert I wanted the cotton candy dessert with a chocolate tree and they wrote "happy birthday" on it for me. There was so many cool parts of the dessert like the lychee ice cream and cotton candy, and sorbet pieces and the chocolate tree trunk. I would love to order it again next time I come! If you're with a group, the Symphony is a must--it lets you try a bit of everything and comes out in a beautiful presentation. Classics: You really can't go wrong with any of the noodle dishes, but the drunken noodles are easily a top pick. The fried rice and beef massaman curry are also consistently delicious. Signature Dishes: The Majestic Ocean Medley is hands-down my favorite, and the short ribs in the curry hot stone are just as impressive. Dessert: The coconut ice cream is always a safe (and satisfying) choice, but it's worth asking about their specials too. Each of their dishes that we tried were insanely delicious. Additionally, their presentation of the dishes were top notch too. Such unique and beautiful display! We went there to celebrate my birthday, and they provided a pretty happy birthday sign board. Also, gave a complimentary dessert. Someone from their staff, may be the manager, checked in on us, making our experience really warm and inviting. As for food, the sampler appetizer was bomb! Both taste wise and display! Kong thai soup was so well balanced with mild taste of sour and savory. Chicken fried rice and lobster curry were amazingly delicious and has such unique taste. Moreover, desserts aren't not competing too. Had the best Mango sticky rice, and the complimentary coconut ice cream had a terrific display along with good taste. There was a coconut milk based soup, very delicious, chicken dumplings, pumpkin chicken curry, brussel sprouts, purple rice, fried rice, calamari and shrimp a very nice variety for lunch. This is one of the best premier thai restaurants here in Houston! I got the chance to try MaKiin this past weekend and it was nothing short of an amazing experience! I came here with two of my friends to try out their buffet selection. They had a great variety of dishes out, from curry's and soups, rice, seafood, and lots more. It's well thought out as the buffet trays don't actually hold a lot of food -- they run out quickly but are replaced with fresh batches just as fast. Service was great, staff made sure our waters were full and were able to give us good guidance on some of their menu items. We opted for a Mango Sticky Rice and some cotton candy tree dessert-- they were both presented beautifully but I was more partial to the mango sticky rice myself. The space itself isn't super big, so I can imagine it filling up fast on a busy weekend. We went for brunch at around noon on Sunday and it was relatively quiet, albeit it was raining a bit this day. If you're in the area and are willing to spend a bit more on a good meal this place is worth your dollar! read more

Winner winner, thailicious dinner!!! We did the all-you-can-eat thai buffet offered at MaKiin (wed- sun 11:30-3p only). Their Buffet lines consists of 10 rotating thai dishes including, curries, beef steak stir fry, braised eggplants, and more. They don't overstock the trays so that freshly cooked food are periodically and frequently refilled. The host and staff are very quick to get you started. There's plenty of room, tables, and seating. You're sure to find at least a few things that you'll like! Come hungry, leave stuffed. Their dessert options are separate from the buffet, but you do get a small discount for some of them if you order them on top of the buffet. Creme Bruleé is an all time favorite!! The torched caramel layer is done to perfection. The strawberries at a refreshing pallate cleansing experience as well as the lemongrass tea served on the side. Mango sticky rice met all expectations. The rice was glutiness and not too chewy, yet holds together very well. The Ube ice cream was the most dynamically visual dessert piece of the three that we had. The visuals speak for themselves. Flavor-wise, the Ube ice cream was adequate, nothing to write home about but presentation was superb! Everything we had at MaKiin felt ELEVATED!!! I hope their business continues to thrive. We came here for a few birthday celebrations. There were six of us total, and we were actually really excited to try this new place in Houston. I think that this restaurant is very beautiful in it's conception. The service is wonderful, accommodating, and kind. Management is thorough, customer focused, and considerate...However, the food is just okay. The main issue I have is that everything on the menu has such an exquisitely beautiful presentation but the taste is not fully there. We tried so many different things and I can't list any thing that made a major impact at all. I do want to come back and try different menu items just to see if there's something that is noteworthy on the menu. I'm happy to see another beautiful restaurant in Houston thrive, but we definitely need more restaurants that have menu items that are pallet-pleasing and not just aesthetically-pleasing. I had a double date here on Sunday late night around 9 PM. Because we had a long day, we didn't think to actually dress up for this and wore casual with long jeans, but they still let us in. But the ambience of this place will make you feel like you need to dress up. It's low lighting, wonderfully decorated. There is a DJ with Lofi vibes. And if you RSVPed with a small message, they have a little sign on your table. As for food they were all amazing like it's really hard to just point one out and be like this is what you should get. They're also very accommodating to vegetarian vegan diets, which was the biggest reason why we came here as one of our friends has a strict dietary restriction. The beef and chicken curry (not pictured), Thai comfort, and the drunken noodles are super amazing . The overall spice level was like 1-3 out of 10. I would put their basic as mild compared to other Thai places so if you like spicier flavors , please let them know that. My favorite appetizer was the Thai thigh kick and that one was the spiciest with 3 out of 10. The other two were OK but the one with bread it's like a foreshadow of the main curry dishes. Unfortunately, I think there was a change of shifts with our waitress/ waiter so there was some confusion about dishes, there was a small spill, and one of the dishes tofu didn't feel like it was all the way cooked. But everything else was amazing. Not only the food but also the anesthetics . the staff looks like they're very use to taking photos for you and every wall has a wonderful background. The tables and chairs are very steady. The chair is not easy to move around, but I like how big it is so you could like fit your purse there or your coat. Overall, I would come here again.
