Pate Banh Mi Grilled Pork Bowl
    Minh D.

Tasty banh mi and all around good Vietnamese bites. I had been disappointed by banh mi options in Austin so its nice to stumble upon a shop with crispy airy bread like how I had it in Vietnam. The special with pork slices and pate is *chefs kiss*. Their abc noodle soup with beef tastes like Pho - very yummy as a side. I think their grilled pork bowl is a bit salty but husband loved his. The staff that we interacted was very nice and helpful, he also went around and checked on guests which is a nice touch.

Roostar has been recommended by multiple coworkers of mine as having the best banh mi sandwiches in Houston. So, of course, I had to check it out. I will say that the banh mi sandwich I had was good but to call it the best is a bit of an overstatement. I got the special banh mi which has pork and garlic aioli. The price is about the same as other banh mi places but the sandwich was very small. Additionally, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't have a very traditional banh mi taste. It tasted like a fusion between banh mi and Philly cheesesteaks. Again, it was tasty, but just not what I was expecting. The service here is top notch though. Although there was minimal interaction between customers and employees, they were welcoming and answered questions with a smile.

Just for the record. These prices are seen on April 1, 2017.

Roostar Vietnamese Grill is my go to restaurant for banh mi whenever I'm in Spring Branch, specifically, north of Katy Freeway. Yesterday, I had a chance to introduce banh mi to my friend, who has never tried a Vietnamese sandwich before. He needs to have the best banh mi to set the standard. Parking was pretty easy because we were here in a Sunday evening. I remember the traffic gets worse during commute time. Line wasn't long but prep line was very busy. I ordered a chopped rib eye sandwich and lemongrass chicken sandwich for him. I have been back since my original review. The restaurant employees were very friendly and helpful every time, including during the Covid era. Never miss a beat. Over 6 years ago, I remember vividly right after I posted my review. Within 20 minutes, the owner sent me a message asking who I talked to about my catering experience. That just shows they care about the customers. I used to come here often because I work north of this Gessner location. After being work from home, I go to the one by Galleria because it's near my house.

The girls from the office decided to check out this nearby restaurant + one of us loved they were UH alum. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This location looks small from the outside, but has plenty of space during off hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was nice, food prep was fast and everything was delicious.

Quick, tasty, and popular. Service and atmosphere: [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place offers good number of seating places but they get taken quickly during lunch time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was clean and staff were operating efficiently.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food and drinks: Good selection of various options. You can also build your own box/bowl. The ordering process was easy and quick. The food came fairly fast considering how busy they were. The food tested good. You can order soft drink with your meals. Pricing: $$ affordable and definitely good spot for quick bite or takeaway.

Just got off a plane from NYC and Roostar (even before going home) is the first place I hit! Yes, Roostar has better banh mi than NYC. It's not even a contest. If I wanted cheap Chinese or sushi, NYC has houston beat.... BUT Vietnamese.... BUT Tex Mex.... Come on. It's not even close. I plan on coming back a lot.

    Chopped Ribeye Banh Mi

Love it! Definitely the best Banh Mi I've had, but I haven't tried many. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is kinda of in the middle of nowhere, and it's just a simple place from the inside[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but the sandwiches were really good, and the curries were also very very good. I loved the ribeye Banh Mi, so that's what I will recommend, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Service was lightning fast too. Definitely try it out.

Fantastic spot for lunch. The ribeye banh mi was so flavorful. The matcha green tea was the perfect addition.

Probably the best banh mi I've ever had! Definitely one of the top spots and I've been from the west coast to the east coast of the United States and the banh mi here is like nothing else. Food: My family and I got the loaded fries, banh mi, and the alphabet soup (honorable mention btw! Very well seasoned and not bland at all). Loaded fries were great, loved the cilantro and how well sauced the entire dish was. Banh mi was the star of the show. Why? The pate. The pate is GREAT here. Never had other pate like it. Service: Service was okay, nothing super special but the food did come out pretty quickly. Easy to find parking too. Overall, I love this place a lot. When I come back to Texas, I'll definitely be visiting again and taking friends and family.

Houston has so many affordable banh mi shops, the one thing they all have in common is the extra toasted baguette that painfully cut up the roof of your mouth at the end of your sandwich. Roostar Vietnamese Grill has perfected the way they prepare their baguette to ensure customer satisfaction. The banh mi is definitely priced higher, but I'd splurge on their sandwiches just to not experience discomfort. I've also catered Roostar Vietnamese Grill for parties, the banh mi is cut in half and individually wrapped for an easy, delicious, and no mess to clean up. This is such a hot item for any occasion, there won't be any leftovers and you're guaranteed to satisfy your audience.

Roostar has expanded from their original location and this spot is in Spring Branch on Gessner. There's some parking spaces in the lot and adjacent lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's also indoor and outdoors seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a fast casual spot with no service; a few banh mi and other viet options. Their grilled pork banh mi is pretty solid; it's a bit light on the quantity of pork and missing the liver pate but at least their bread tastes fresh and has the right consistency.

I'm kinda addicted to their food. Love the pate you can add to their banh mi. Love the seasoned tofu, which is a rarity for me, and I love the juicy chicken, which is never ever dry! The owners are active in the community and were donating along with others, free food to those who lost power during hurricane Beryl. Their own stores were without power for over a week. Really enjoy the variety of their menu. There's something for everyone, and the flavors are all there!

I went on a weekend so it was busy, but it wasn't unbearable. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating which was nice. Staff, 10/10: no complaints here! They were extremely patient with me upon ordering when I had a lot of questions, even though there were people waiting behind me. They were informative, had great energy, and were also hustling to get people their orders as quickly as possible Food/Drinks, 10/10: As a vegan, coffee shops can be hit or miss, especially on the food. Having clearly labeled vegan options made it easy for me to have confidence with my choice (vegan all day). The bread was perfectly warm but not hard. Great flavor. The person I was with had no the smoked salmon avocado toast and what I recall to be the amazon cloud. She rated them both 10/10 with no hesitation. Very flavorful and refreshing. The last time I was here, a server took our order. However, this time, after waiting for a looooong time at our table, I discovered that all ordering should be done at the counter. I like how open and spacious the place is but the booth seats were in poor condition, with extreme cracks and peeling pleather. Also, many of the tablets were dirty and I had to get up and ask for napkins to clean up the stains. Help was very limited during this visit. The baristas were engrossed in making drinks and didn't seem very friendly or eager to help with questions. On the bright side, the young gal who brought out our food and drinks was really nice and helpful. She even offered to spray down our table and wipe it clean for us after she saw how icky it was. There's a Pick 3 toasts for $24.95 option and we chose two smoked salmon toasts and one avocado toast. They were decently good. It was a nice light meal to share between two of us. However, the quality of the drinks has declined. The strawberry matcha used to be excellent but the flavor has lost its vibrancy. I would not order it again.
