Hungry's - Bar in the ground! - New American Near Me - Houston, Texas

I have always enjoyed my eating experience at Hungry's on Rice Blvd, I work in West U. Unfortunately today wasn't a good experience. I ordered the salmon and lettuce wedge curbside, this is always my favorite dish. My salmon was (fishy), the lettuce wedge appeared old, and the pita bread was hard. After working in the rain all day it was very disappointing to top it off with fishy salmon. read more

The mimosas sucked. I would highly not recommend this place to go to if you're thinking about the mimosas. The Philly cheesesteak was dry. Do not come here if you're looking for flavorful. Pick a different place to go to and not waste you money read more

Very disappointed in the brunch today. Selections were good, but the food and service were not. Waitress had a very hard time remembering simple drink orders or sweeteners for tea - 5 minutes later & 2 requests, I finally grabbed some off another table. Eggs Benedict: eggs over cooked with no runny yokes, teaspoon of hollandaise sauce over huge, tough bread. Chicken and waffles: chicken over cooked & thimble of maple syrup. Orange juice was fresh squeezed, but warm. Hopefully the chef & waitress get with the program - 1st time I have ever complained about this place. read more

Lately, I've found myself kickin' it on the West side of town. I am a huge fan of breakfast/brunch and since today is the beginning of my birthday weekend, I wanted to start it off with a hefty meal. My friend decided to take me to Hungry's Bistro on Memorial for brunch. I ordered the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict, which included two crab cakes with poached eggs on fresh baked ciabatta bread topped with hollandaise sauce. It's also served with herb roasted potatoes and fresh fruit. I added the Smoked Chicken & Apple Sausage as a side order for an extra $2. My friend got the regular Eggs Benedict platter. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, so much so that I actually took a 2 hour nap afterward to process all the "food-baby" goodness! If you're a huge fan of eggs benedict, Hungry's definitely gets it right! The only tiff I have with this joint is that the server made us feel rushed to finish our meal. It's brunch, buddy, not a race! And when you're paying an avg of $11-15 per plate, you can at least give us a little time to enjoy a lazy Saturday meal. Parking is also a bit tight, but I still wouldn't do valet service since it's not that far of a walk to the back lot. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would probably come back to try out the connecting Next Door bar/lounge. BRUNCH MENU: http://hungryscafe.com/docs/BrunchMenu2-18-09.pdf read more

Hungry's - my crab cakes eggs benedict - New American Near Me - Houston, Texas

I wanted to go to a brunch place today, so found one close by! I got the crab cake eggs Benedict. Obsessed with eggs and obsessed with seafood. It was really good. Their egg was perfect and had a good amount of crab in it. The potato hash was seasoned nicely. My bf got their quesadilla. Nothing special there and hard to mess up on something that simple. The place felt a bit humid though... read more

The atmosphere is great, food is above average but they think too much of their food. It's way overpriced. We liked the area because when we went, it was raining and the place was almost empty. The servers and cooks were rattling around in there. We got the food very quickly so there's no compliant there. We won't go back there no matter how good their food is. When they start serving eggs made of gold, I will gladly go back. La Peep or Franks Grill, both on Westheimer, are better alternatives. read more

Our dinner plans fell through one evening and I found myself here with three friends checking out their Houston Restaurant Weeks Menu on the fly. I'd only heard about this place, and most of what I'd heard was regarding it's brunch menu, but it seemed like it was worth checking out. Right off the bat, you run into a bit of a problem, as there are only six parking spaces out front, and the rest is blocked off for use by a valet. We got lucky and took the two empty spots up front, negating an issue that may have taken us to another venue. Service was mediocre and inattentive for a multi-course meal. We barely saw our server four times, which was odd considering he'd have to come out a minimum of six times to take orders, deliver all the courses, and collect the check. They were busy though, and they did have a couple of runners helping out. Three of us started out with the 4 oz crab cake with mac & cheese, and we were not disappointed. The crab cake was a sizeable disk (wider than a hockey puck) served in a small queso skillet with orzo, jalapenos, and cheese. It was a solid start to the meal, and was surprisingly filling for an appetizer. I wasn't too impressed with their use of orzo for the macaroni, but on the whole this was a star dish. The last in our party went with the tropical salad, which had mixed greens topped with mango and jicama. She seemed to enjoy the healthier fare, but not anywhere near as much as we loved ours. Our second course was more varied. Two in our group went with the salmon filet, one with the pesto pasta, and I went with the beef and chicken kabobs. The recurring problem we encountered with the entrees was a disappointing lack of flavor. Three of us just weren't satisfied, and I ended up dousing my dish in salt and pepper just so I could taste what I was eating. This was easily the most disappointing course of the night. I think only Dave, who ordered the pesto pasta, really enjoyed what he got. For the third course, my three compatriots went with bread pudding while I went with the chocolate lava cake. My dessert saved my experience on the whole, as it was a decadent dessert and the perfect size to cap off a three course meal. My colleagues had mixed reviews about the bread pudding, which apparently had a soggy croissant texture to it. Two of them finished their desserts without incident, but noted they'd had better bread pudding elsewhere. The third ate a few bites, finished the ice cream, and took it to go. I'm not sure if she was full or just didn't like it, but she didn't seem pleased with it. On the whole, Hungry's really seems like a hit or miss place. If you order a hit, it will be a great dish, but if you order a miss, it will be a big miss. Check reviews before you go so you don't make the same missteps we did. read more

Terrible customer service, ordered two sandwiches at 20$ a piece and only put no cucumber, they didn't put any of the other ingredients on and when I called to complain they basically told me to screw off. Don't waste your time I've seen this once great restaurant get extremely overpriced and the service has just fallen off of the wagon. Save your time and money. read more

I'm so sad I have to leave a bad review. First time here and I unfortunately had a bad experience here from the moment we were parking to the moment we left. Horrible customer service and bad management. I didn't feel welcomed or well taken care of! I so badly wanted to like this place since it's close to my house and the outdoor patio looked inviting. When I first arrived parking was really tight and somebody parked over the line so my car would not fit in the only spot left. I went to the valet and when I told the guy I wanted to park myself he seemed annoyed and did not care to tell me where I could park myself. When we arrived inside we had reservations, we were sat upstairs in a nice outdoor area but the fan was blowing on me out on the patio. There were no other available spots and I was freezing the entire time. I had recently had surgery and cannot sit where the fan is blowing directly on me. The waiter was kind of rude about it and just said this is the only table we have take it or leave it. I felt obligated to stay at that table since the party I was with was starving. Our food came out cold and late, the waiter was not really great about explaining where we could get water and we barely saw him. Maybe it was just a bad waiter but it was disappointing for sure! Hopefully they have a better wait staff now. read more

Don't even bother to bring your dogs to this place. They aren't even allowed to be at the outdoor area... really? What kind of place does this? Very bad first impression. Not giving this place a second chance. read more

The physical presentation is very inviting. I love the color scheme. The food is priced moderately and the portions are generous. I like this place because some of my friends are vegan and the menu is accommodating. Additionally, my other friends can have healthy choices. Amazing food and delicious! For a large pick up order. Will definitely use them again. Did a wrap platter for a large group and they included all plates/cookies/chips/napkins. read more

Not bad. I visited for lunch with a couple others. We did not have a problem getting a seat or parking. If you have any preference between one of the three menus you can find something to eat, meaning vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc. I had the combo Kabob plate. It is both chicken and beef served with a melody of veggies. The meal was very good and it appears my guest enjoyed their meals as well which were salads. The place is connected to a bar so it has a lot of potential for being busy in the evenings or right after work. I did not see any eye candy; however, it was a business lunch and I was not looking. Outside of the construction on memorial it is worth a visit and I do plan on visiting again. Between the three of us the bill was $55. read more

I have recently started coming to Hungrys ever so often for their awesome mimosas. I have to say I have been to the location on Memorial & Dairy Ashford 7 times / 3 of those tunes alone. Each time I come alone the server never comes to my table . I have 1 menu so it is obvious I'm alone. It has taken 15 min each time I'm alone for someone to serve me. I don't know what the problem is??? I won't state the obvious, beautiful African American female. The only brown face in the room so I stick out so there is no way they can't spot me. Ughhh I hate saying what I'm saying. But I never make a scene, I just sit here. Now I now what yur thinking , 2 other tables came right behind me and sat 1 table away and within 10 seconds had a server . Make me freakin upset. But oh well. - Chavonne LaFleur read more

I had mama's meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans...very tasty. Washed it down with a raspberry lemonade. The ambiance is...subpar. very small. But all the food looked appetizing. Always a great option for lunch whenever I'm in this part of Houston. Plenty of tasty options on the vast menu. Tons of seating, especially when the outdoor patio and next doors restaurant area is open. Valet parking is useful at busy times. read more

I love this restaurant! Both the quality of the food and service is great! Food is priced well. I typically order the Hummus Sampler & the Chicken Kabob plate. Delicious every time! Today, I tried out the Mediterranean Grilled Salmon served with quinoa and a mix of grilled vegetables. I loved it! I also had a bite of their White and Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake; this is dangerous but amazing! I've been here over twenty times and will continue to come back. I love this restaurant. Next Door Lounge (same owner) is literally next door to Hungry's (Shares the same kitchen) and they have the best mixologists! Great drinks especially micheladas! Great neighborhood bar, I love it! read more

They place was so good! Started off with goat cheese bruschetta which was delicious creamy tasteful and I could eat it all day. I ordered the shrimp tacos which had slaw on top and it was bit spicy but very delicious I would order that every single day if I could get it. We also ordered the Philly cheesesteak po boy which came with fries and was good too. I would love to come back and actually try some of the things on the brunch menu. Which was our reason for going but we arrived late. read more

This is a very nice restaurant that continues to provide great food and excellent customer service. Today, I received excellent customer service from a waitress by the name of Laila. Laila was very attentive to me during my visit. After paying my bill, I left the restaurant leaving my eyeglasses and hand sanitizer at my table. Thankfully, Laila brought my glasses and hand sanitizer to me in the restaurant parking lot. I will continue to visit this restaurant in the future. Once again, special thanks to Laila! Great food! Manager's service is great as well! I really loved their new pesto pineapple pizza. Worth a try!

Omg sooooooo awesome! We came here for my best friend's birthday and of course started off with the flight (3 delicious mimosas- orange, strawberry, and raspberry! ) it is called a flight for a reason, I was yummy and we were all giggles after that. It took an unhappy turn when we were told we couldn't get chicken and waffles because it's only offered 3 days (again I say, Which three days?? ) I ordered the chicken fried chicken and fries instead, it was good. Overall a great time! read more

When my family and I came here for brunch, the place was going under construction so the options for seating was either at the bar or in the patio. Houston was super hot and humid that day (as well as most days), so we opted for the bar area. We ordered a couple of drinks each. I had the froze and the frozen bellini; I really like my frozen drinks. These are gooood. I love rose, so frozen rose was a win for me. The food was good, although very heavy. The portions were huge so leftovers will be a thing. I had the southern crispy chicken and eggs. Pretty good, basically a fried chicken cutlet with eggs and potatoes. Different, but good. Overall, this place was good, I do wish there wasn't construction. It would be nice to sit in the actual restaurant. read more

I sat outdoors and did not receive service. Moved inside and still was not acknowledged or serviced. This is around 4:30 PM and it was not busy at all. Probably 12 people at most between the patio and indoor seating. I looked around and saw that I am the only person of color so maybe that is why. I will never come back to this location again. Zero stars. I'm only giving 1 because I have to in order to leave this review. read more

Terrible service and below average food for the price. Came in for brunch on a Sunday and they weren't that busy. Took us 15 minutes to meet waiter and then waited another 15 to get drinks (water) . Other tables that had sat down way after us had already received their meal. Manager also went around asking other tables how their experience was, but never asked us even thought we had been their the longest. When we finally got food it was cold and mediocre. They do have a nice outdoor area, but I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Nice atmosphere, Good food & Great Service. Will definitely return as often as possible.

The drinks were pretty good. I ordered the tuna tartare and the flavor was lacking. I also ordered the tortilla soup and it was also lacking flavor and was brought out luke warm.
