Caution, they will not accept your bank card if their chip reader won't read a card. No swiping option, no manual entry. Howard's Ace Hardware (HAH!) is the best place to buy things you need around the house. Their people are friendly with greetings at the door. When I recently had a problem, Janessa was quick to respond and help me, so I really appreciate her. I hope she becomes an assistant manager. Most of the employees are great. Just one or two exceptions, but those usually get weeded out. I highly recommend Howards Ace. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - like THE WORST! Left this location about 20 minutes ago. I needed two screws to complete a project I was in the middle of along with a few keys while I was at it. The moment I walked in I passed three employees, no greeting whatsoever. The vibe was definitely "do not ask for help", so I didn't until I absolutely had to. After a few minutes I found the screws I needed and made my way over to the key counter. This is where it went real south. The employee approaches me (mask and pants half on) and says "what's up?". Like wtf I'm not your homie. Shocked I couldn't even respond right away. He then says "What? Do you need a key?" I just said "actually, no" and began to walk off before I lost it. So, I got a new puppy, and a 7300 PT Dremel for her nails. I owned a Dremel before, and was familiar with how to get attachments on and off. This time, it wasn't working like it should. I couldn't figure it, and figured I needed a whole new collet. Turned out I didn't. While the part wasn't working like it should, the gentleman took the time to help me figure out what was wrong, and how I could get attachments on and off the Dremel without having to buy a new part. Howard's Ace really is the place. They really do have far more of the stuff I need than the Despot. I needed a hammer handle to replace a broken one on a mallet. Howard's Ace had it when The Despot didn't. So many times I have gone to other places and they don't have odd bolt sizes and Howard's Ace had a selection. They also have the best people. SIMPLY THE BEST OF ALL! Ace Hardware's staff is awesome! Once while at the cashier's, I commented on how I wish they would not have all these "specials" right by the register because I invariably buy something that doesn't work out for me. She asks what did not work out and I replied, "about a year ago I bought a LED flashlight for 7-8 dollars and, after a couple of months, it worked intermittently." She said to bring it back to which I replied that I could not because I don't have my receipt anymore. She told me no problem. So, next time in there, I traded my cheapie LED for a nice LED flashlight AND they gave me full credit for my old flashlight simply based on how much I told them I had paid for it!!!! Last month, after shortcutting Ace (never again) and trying to do business at Paul's Hardware in Scottsdale (please see my review "Boycott Paul's!) only to go back to Ace and have them clean up Paul's Mistakes, I realized just how green the grass is at Ace Hardware. Shame on me-my only experience at Paul's Hardware in Scottsdale I couldn't wait to write a nasty review. At least once a month for over two years I buy something at Ace Hardware and have always been impressed with the employee's eager willingness assist me but have I made that quality and sincerity public....Shame, shame on me. This is one of the tidiest and well lit small hardware stores I have ever been in. Any project that you're working on, I can tell you they will have what you need. I'm just glad to be supporting the little guy instead of the Big Orange F'ers or the Big Blue Bastards. Ace is a complete hardware store. I can always get what I need. I get in and out quick, the workers are accessible and friendly and helpful - did you hear that Home Despot?? HELPFUL!! and I can get an ice cream at 7:30 in the morning. I go to ACE for all kinds of things -children's safety stuff, lawn care, tools, hardware, ad infinitum. never have to wait long in line. The music is usually pretty good stuff. I called to see if they had chains. The first time I called a girl answered and she was laughing and hung up on me. So I called back and she answered again so I asked her if they had chains and she said "what's a chain?" And then proceeded to laugh. Throughout the conversation she kept laughing with her and her coworker and she was paying attention to my question and eventually she hung up. Came into this Ace Hardware to get help picking out wall paper supplies. Was directed to an associate and the paint department who kept talking over the radio to someone else who better new wallpaper but wouldn't come over and help us. Really sad is this place has a ton of great reviews and thought it would be better to come to a smaller local store like this to get better help but I guess Lowe's and Home Depot are the better options here! read more

This place has ever strange thing you could ever need to satiate your OCD or meth fueled cleaning rampage. - You hate scorpions, but you don't have the Predator's eyes, so you can't see those stinging little bastards in the dark? They have a HUGE array of scorpion black lights so as to help you go all Dexter on the Cercophonius squama in your domicile. - Its Sunday, you wanna go shoot your gun, but your favorite gun shop takes Sunday off and you need ammo? Go to the back left corner, and there you'll find stacks and stacks of handgun, shotgun and rifle ammo. Yup Yelpers, ammo at the hardware store. A guy who was "there to help" didn't have a clue then some loud kid who couldn't be bothered to take his ear buds out of his head was a total jerk. I have been coming here for years but I wouldn't come here if you need any kind of advice or come here during the day when the adults are working. This particular Ace is the bomb. Anytime I go in here the staff answers my questions and gets me out the door with exactly what I need. On my last visit I had to buy a cart to haul a bass amp (heavy stuff) and the guy who helped me is also a musician so we had fun talking about music, roadies and live shows. This place is close and convenient but the customer service Is the absolute worst. I come here often because it's closer and easier to get to then Home Depot and they have a reasonable selection of a few things. If they were convenient there's no way I would ever patronize the shop again. Every time I need to have keys made I have to go search for somebody and ask them. Today I had to buy twi 10' foot long pipes. I'm also petite and have a huge bruise on my wrist. They have something like 12 employees walking around this tiny store and not one single person offered to help me in the two trips I had to make to carry the pipes out to my car. I don't believe I've ever been asked if I need help...Every time I come in I have to go search one of the many many people working there that is adverse to actually helping their customers. Their ownership/management should really take notes and make this a better place for customer service. read more

I love that it's smaller and thus, everything is easier to find. The staff is always there to ask if you need help and to guide you to your destination. This ACE Hardware has the most helpful staff of any hardware store around. I go here a lot, and almost every time there's someone at the front door to ask you what you need. What's more, if you tell them, they'll take you right to it, and stay with you as long as you want to answer questions. Their hardware selection is amazing, and the staff will talk you through almost any home improvement quandary you're experiencing. Home Depot sells their expert staff in their commercials, but it's 50/50 whether you'll find someone who knows what they're talking about. Howard's ACE is always on the ball. I never go to HD anymore unless I need raw materials in larger quantities. read more
