Came in last week to get a tool chest that appeared to have a sale sign on it. As it turns out, the sign had just been laid on top of the boxed item I wanted. When they told me it was for a different item, and that they were out of stock with more coming in the next day, I figured I would come back. Instead, before I got to tell them I'd come back the next day, they offered to charge me a favorable split of the difference. I would never have been 'that customer' and fought them on their mistake but they insisted and that was a huge move! This review is long overdue. This neighborhood gem is the perfect place for DIYers, green thumb gurus, I don't know wth I'm looking for and/or common everyday gear. Just to name a few, the salespeople have helped us with getting seed and sod for our patchy lawn, lawnmower to tame our now overgrown lawn, to how to fix a broken leg of our tufted chair and what parts to buy, to some mini ikea-ish wrench looking things to work on some gun parts. One of the guys who looks like adam levine's doppelgänger even ordered a specific keychain that wasn't in stock - now that's ACE service. read more

Howard's Ace Hardware is a great place to shop. Cory is friendly and willing to help in anyway he can. The store isn't that large but I always seem to find what I need. They carry a good selection of various brands and calibers of ammunition with very competitive pricing. I live a considerable distance from the store but due to their friendly and helpful staff I am willing to drive a few miles out of my way. read more

I have been going to this store for so many years I can't remember. I don't know what has happened to the "Ace is the place, your friendly hardware store". They wanted to charge me more $ for an even exchange because I had purchased the item at a different store and paid less. REALLY!, why are you charging more for the same item that is cheaper at another ACE store? Why are you charging more for an even exchange. The fine folks at this Ace have never steered me wrong in 20 years of home fix-up projects. Unlike the big box store, their staff is always accessible, friendly, and most importantly, they know what they're talking about! They always have found a way for this wannabe handywoman to successfully fix whatever needed fixing with a minimum of fuss and without overselling. The true test of any business' customer service, however, is how they handle problems- as problems will inevitably come up. When a product did not live up to expectations they went all the way, no questions asked, to make it right and make me whole. I couldn't ask for better service. read more

Even though I could probably find similar items elsewhere, it is their EXCEPTIONAL customer service that compels me to remain a loyal customer. They genuinely appear to want to make sure I get what I need. They are generous with their time and their collective and individual expertise. The staff is positive and professional. Even though I live in Mesa, I've stopped here several times because it's on my way home from my mom's house. I have to say ditto to most of the other reviews. The customer service is top notch, so refreshing for this day and age. Not to particularly bash WalMart, but it is nearly impossible to get any kind of service there. I would rather pay a bit more for the pleasure of shopping at Howard's. When I ask about an item, they don't just point, but escort me there and answer in detail any question I have. Also, they so graciously accepted a return of an item I purchase at an Ace store in Tempe, no questions asked. And, their hours are more extended that any other Ace I've been to, even on Sunday they were open until at least 8:00pm which is when I stopped by. read more

If you live in Central or Camelback Corridor, go to Howard's Ace Hardware. Skip the madness and time waste at Home Depot. Don't try Ace at 7th st and Missouri, they are rude and don't care. I called Howard's early this morning for a shower arm. Boom - one, two three - yes they have it. Within 20 minutes including call, I was back in my house with it. Most Ace's are far superior to the big box stores in service. Even if it is a few dollars more you are saving time and in most cases supporting a local business owner. read more

I love this Ace! The people are always nice and helpful. I recently bought paint and while they mixed it, the girl there was nice enough to walk around with me and show me some things that would help me with my painting endeavor....not at all pushy, just genuinely helpful. I will gladly support this business over HD (why oh why do they have all those lanes and only one is ever open?) Plus, this Ace carries Benjamin Moore paint...yay!!!!! We recently moved so I tried Howard's Ace on the south side of Indian School and 32nd street. I was doing a few home repairs on my own, but didn't really know what I needed. I was greeted as I walked in and asked if I needed help. Boy did I- I wish I remember his name, but he walked me through everything I needed AND recommended a few ways to save money by purchasing individual components vs. the pre-packaged stuff that was marked up 100% for the pretty package, I guess (from the individual components). Pricing at Howard's Ace was also cheaper by 50% on the pre-packaged kit vs. our previous Ace store on Thomas. I had just checked there and decided not to buy the kit because it seemed ridiculously expensive. read more

Well stocked, organized, marked, clean store. Unfortunately most of the staff knows little about the products and often gives the wrong answers. A couple of the older gentlemen know a bit more, but they are hard to find. And the other more senior folks routinely walk by, too busy to ask if you need help. Nice facility, but quality and knowledge of the staff needs work. I usually prefer shopping at an Ace or True Value, but the frustration of not being helped and then getting someone who has no idea about the products is enough to send me a couple miles further on down the road. read more

Great service! Looks like they're down a few people more than usual. Two young men helped me I went to a young man named Adam and he seemed new and helped out the best he could, he double checked with a young man Saul who was also very helpful in explaining. I do like this store but I did not like the checking out section Mainly because the cashiers were rude and disrespectful. The last time I was in there one of the cashiers I think was named Kyrie, did not pay any attention to me while I was checking out. She did not ask for my ace rewards when I did in fact have one. She was either to busy looking at a piece of paper and not being obligated to a costumers needs. Another time I came in and a cashier name Jessica helped me in the right direction to what I needed but when she checked me out she was to busy on her phone and laughing with other cashiers. The people on the floor are amazing and definitely helped me out a lot. And that's another reason why I go to this location. Another reason why I come to this Ace is a helpful cashier named Mandy. She is well trained and knows how to talk to a customer. Very perspective on customer gratification. Another time I came into this Ace on a Wednesday, I waited in line for about 10 min while a familiar face of a cashier that looked like Kyrie was standing near the registers staring at the other cashier struggling to get the line going when she did not help the other cashier at all.
