This is the best hardware store in the Valley Every visit we are welcomed and approached by someone in less than 45 seconds. The person you need to see is SCOTT! This guy will help you find a solution no matter what the situation is. If you see him working with another customer just be patient and wait for his amazing advice. This has been the best hardware store in the city for years. Here is another story why: On Christmas Eve I had picked up my elderly aunt from across town to bring her for dinner. When I loaded her walker I realized it was is missing a nut and bolt and was not safe for her. I stopped at Ace one hour before closing and an employee that I had not met before (John, I think) got on his knees to investigate the walker. After several minutes of trying different combinations of nuts and bolts, he located a good fit and then retrieved a wrench to install. When it was all done, he apologized the nut and bolt were metallic in color and did not match the black of the others. :-) I thanked him and wished him a Merry Christmas. Cost: $.50. Ace really is the helpful place! The employees here are always so nice and helpful. They have good knowledge about various things and was able to special order things for me when they don't have them. Nicole was especially helpful and ordered me gallons of Isopropyl and several cases of spray paint. It was something I've been searching for for a long time and couldn't find until she came up and asked me if I needed help. At first I said no, then she said, are you sure? We like Ace over Home Depot since their employees actually know where things are and they are always available. I would give this Ace 5 stars but it's been very disappointing lately, we wear masks because of Covid-19 and the employees don't. This projects a very poor customer service image, it's says "we don't respect our customers". We hope the management takes this to heart and require masks for their employees and customers during this pandemic. read more

I rented a carpet cleaner from this location and when I went to return it I was appalled by how I was spoken to by an employee and the manager Nicole. When I brought the carpet cleaner in I was asked by the employee (which turned out to be the manager) where the filter was, and I replied "I'm not sure what you're referring to I am returning it in the same condition you gave it to me in", and she went on to point out where the filter should have been and I again responded "this is the same condition I rented it" and asked to speak to a manager if this was a problem and Nicole at this time responded that she was the manager and at the same time an elderly female employee whom was standing at the counter responded "I'm not so sure about that" in a snarky voice when I said again it was the condition I rented it in and then walked off. I was in disbelief that an employee would speak to me that way in front of a manager and secondly the manager didn't say a word. I then turned to the manager and asked if she was going to address what had just happened and her verbatim response was "well, you can go talk to her, what do you want me to do about it", I then responded "maybe correct your employee for speaking that way to a customer?" and she said "well I don't think she meant it that way". I again told her I found the snarky connect offensive and she simply shrugged her shoulders and went about processing my order, no apology, nothing. I put in a complaint with Ace's headquarters so they can deal with these employees and will never set foot in that store again. read more

This Ace is probably the best hardware store in Phoenix. It is always clean and well-stocked, and the people who work here are very friendly and helpful. I find that I can get 99% of what I need here, so I don't have to go to the big box out-of-town places. Whether I need shelf brackets, cords and cables, keys, or tools, I can count on the folks at my neighborhood hardware store to get me what I need. Hubby watched utube and decided that he could fix our shower handle as suddenly it stopped working. A couple of hours later we left with said handle to find a new one as there was a set screw that wouldn't come out. This meant that we could not go with just a new cartridge but would have to replace the handle along with cartridge. First stop Lowes... We could not find what we were looking for as well as anyone to help us so we decided to go to our in neighborhood Howards Ace Hardware. Tony was the sales associate that helped us. He was very knowledgeable. He found our Mohen cartridge quickly and saw how discouraged I was about having to replace my two tone handle that was coordinated with the rest of the hardware in the bathroom. He looked at the handle and asked if he could work on the set screw and after a few moments he came back with the damaged set screw and got us a new one. Tony went above and beyond and because of him I got to take a bath an hour later with our heavy two tone handle working better than it ever did. On the East side of Phoenix, there are 2 options for Home Improvement - Home Depot ( Thomas Rd & 36th St) or this location for Ace Hardware. Honestly, I go to HD often for their pricing, large selection, rental equipment, landscaping needs, and much more. I recently replaced an old 1950's toilet with a Toto Dual Flush and installed a new gas range in my home. After consulting with Travis from Strong Home Improvement, he said that Ace is the Place. They will answer your questions, point you towards the right fixtures and are ALWAYS Helpful. He was right-on-the-money. Each and every visit (4x), the staff knew what I was asking for and knew EXACTLY where the parts where located in the store. If you are tackling a project at home, ACE is your PLACE! read more

Close, Cheap and Convenient keeps me coming back to Howard's, and with a name like Howard's, it speaks DIY and Home Improvement. Sure there's those other "big box" stores, but sometimes it's just too big (TWSS). Parking at Howard's is a breeze, even with the construction going on, and getting in and out on Indian School Road is not too bad, either (I'm never in a hurry, though). Unlike most Ace Hardware stores, this location is smaller, but like most, compact and well stocked. Always plenty of employees to bug you and ask if you need any help. I particularly like Howard's because of his nuts. He'll sell you just one, which is sometimes all I need, not a whole bag like those aforementioned "big box behemoths". Hopefully with the new construction finishing soon, they will stay small and maintain their great personal service. The parking lot will improve, and access could be better, but not by much. read more

I want to take a moment to acknowledge some outstanding service that I received at my local Ace Hardware. On 1/3/2014, I went far out of my way to visit Howard's Ace Hardware at 3111 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85016. I live 40 miles north and west of this Ace location, but I will never forget the excellent service I received when I used to live in this area and I continue to come back when I have a hardware need. I went to Ace to engineer a solution to a poor product design I encountered when I purchased a universal fit shifter knob for my 6-speed. I was greeted by Saul, a smart young man who went to work on my problem with enthusiasm. He tried several possible solutions before hitting on the perfect combination of spacer and nut. He accompanied me to my car several times to make certain that he had the exact correct size nut and to ensure that the solution he engineered worked as I needed. He even custom ground the nut so that it would fit inside my ill-designed shifter knob. I was so very impressed! Congratulations on having such good people skills that you recognized and hired a smart, enthusiastic young man like Saul! Please praise his efforts because he makes you look terrific, maintains the high standards of customer service I expect and exceeded those expectations by going above and beyond my expectations. this is a great hardware store! Very clean, well stocked and organized. The employees are very helpful and always available. Prices are reasonable. There is nothing I hate more than going to a store for something specific and finding that they have everything but the item I need (**cough** Home Depot ** cough **). This Ace never does that to me! It is also right next to a Checker (O'Rielly) Auto Parts, so if you need something for your car you can get that too. As a matter of fact, there is also a Food City there! So if you need new windsheild wipers, some peppers, and socket set, you will be all set by going to this Ace Hardware! Bertha's Cafe is across the street, so go there too! read more

I appreciate this ACE for many reasons. The staff is very knowledgeable. Whomever manages this store does a great job training the staff. What I also appreciate is who they hire. They hire young people out of high school and folks that are obviously retired from other careers. Everyone is friendly and helpful and I never wait around for help when I need it. They usually have what I need, even random things. They can order pretty much anything else you need if they don't carry it. And the location is fantastic. I am so grateful that they were an anchor store that stayed open while the corner underwent the remodel. read more

Every time I go into this particular store, I wonder why do I ever go any place else. There are other stores closer to my house but it is worth it to make the drive. The attitude of the staff is terrific. Rarely do I find they don't have what I want in stock. It reminds me of the hardware stores I used to go to as a kid. They always had a little of everything and someone to help you find it. If not, usually some one could make a suggestion as to what else might be used or where to find it. The "good old days" never went away with this store. How many stores can you walk into and say you need red laquer color paint-the ornate chinese type and they will walk you to it! Just so sad to see the change in this store. We have a local business and would like to support locally, but this store is changing. I was there about 2 weeks ago looking for a trim part for a car. They are redoing the nut and bolt aisle and have new displays. I could not find the item I needed although I had seen it there a few weeks before. I had no less than 8 employees pass me and go into a backroom door without ever asking if I needed any help. I finally found the item i needed after about 30 min. When i checked out there was a friendly older lady and a young black man, who was on his phone at the register. I realize times are changing but I was in there Saturday and immediately asked the first person I saw where the item i wanted was. I got the item and walked up to the check out line, there was one customer being checked out. There were two cashiers a young black lady on the west cash register and a young hispanic lady on the east register. I walked up to the east register, the cashier had her phone laying on the counter about 18 inches from the register, she was leaning over the phone and doing something on the screen. She checked me out while continually glancing at her phone. When I was done paying , she turned to her phone and handed the receipt in my direction without looking up, I had to reach across for my item as she was typing on the phone. I look up and the young black lady was turned away from the counter on her phone. I went and found the manager and told him. I don't want to sound like a crabby lady, I work full time and no one is allowed to have their phones on the work floor. I was taught years ago, " If there is time to lean there is time to clean". Pickup a broom and start sweeping or start dusting. I hope you can change your policy, interesting at Home Depot I never see anyone on their phone unless it is to look up on their app where an item is located. read more

Overall a good store as far as selection. Unfortunately I encountered two less that stellar performers this evening. A young lady who rushed to walk by me instead of ask if I need help and a young man named Cody who, as a cashier didn't greet me by even saying hello or in any way acknowledging me and at the conclusion of the transaction was too busy talking to his coworker while he flung my receipt at me. I am extremely disappointed as I used to get help all the time. It seems to be the younger generation with an entitlement mentality or who ere just never taught basic courtesy. I expect this from somewhere like Home Depot but I've never felt like my business didn't matter to them. Perhaps it's time to take my business there.... read more

I live sandwiched between Ace and Home Depot. This review is a long time in the making, but well worth the wait. A while back I was a Home Depot shopper, on my last visit into "do it your self hell" I was treated so badly by their rude staff I have never been back! Going into Ace has been a polar opposite. The staff here are awesome! They answer my questions no matter how crazy they might be and are very helpful in the process. I hate going to this Ace Hardware. No one is around when you need help. The store is poorly organized. Just about everything is under lock and key. Many of the employees act as if they are too busy to help, don't offer or are "hiding out" in the store to avoid customers. I try to avoid this particular "Ace" at all costs. Oh yeah. The credit card machines are messed up and out dated. They don't accept Apple Pay either. Uggh. I was always running to Home Depot, but this ACE is close to my crib and I realized that a few more pennies gets me in and out right away and quality hardware. I also like that the local hardware store is alive and well. I walked in with a diagram drawn by my friend (That looked like it was drawn by a 5 year old) of what I needed and the guy walked me into the plumbing aisle and set me up in 5 minutes. I live very close but often find myself driving to this location when working in north Scottsdale just to buy a few things because the 2 hardware stores up there don't have what I need. The African American cashier was lazy, rude and refused to assist in locating an item I was in search of. According to AceHardware.com the product I was in search of was available for pick up and after trying to explain to the cashier this, she refused to help and informed me that if they had the product it would be on the shelf, if it wasn't there they didn't have it. When asked to check the stock she refused. I asked if she was going to even assist she walked out from the back of the register saying Sir, Bye and proceeded to call me a B*%?$. Another employee came to assist in locating the item I was looking for. This behavior from an employee is extremely inappropriate. read more
