This is a fun little speakeasy in downtown Roseville. Down an alley, knock on a nondescript door and say the password (check their instagram for the daily password). The room is small but surprisingly fit two large groups and a few couples. There's a bar plus a few tables and couches. The bartenders are very focused and work hard at their craft. Each cocktail is carefully made to perfection. The list of drinks ranges from light fruity to spirit-forward depending on your taste. We enjoyed: - pomegranate martini: light and fruity, good pomegranate flavor - yuzu lime drop: seasonal for summer only! - the First Lady: strong but smooth; came with a nicely cut ice cube - whiskey sour: classic flavor, executed well The drinks were great but I really wish there was some sort of snack to munch on. This is a 1930 speakeasy feel bar which is entered only through a green door in an alley that can be easily missed and entry is password protected. Guarded by a gatekeeper who will ask you for the password for the day. You better grab that off Instagram. We had no idea so I told him Will sent us and well. I got a good scolding, they let me in. Once you enter, it feels like you walked into the 1920s with the leather shrouded barstools at the tables, the hardwood bar and the stuffed animals that include a buffalo, pheasants, and more. Tucked behind an unassuming alley in Old Roseville sits a green door marked only with the number 323. No signs. No bell. No sliding peek window. No sound leaking through the walls. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the wrong place or about to make a mistake and put yourself into a sketchy place. We looked around for a more "realistic" entry way not knowing the most realistic entry way is one that looks like a back door to a closed vacuum or furniture storefront. That's exactly the point. You knock. Immediately, the door opens. A man in a cowboy hat looks you over. He doesn't wear a name tag. He doesn't need one. He asks, "You have something to say?" If you've done your homework, and say the right thing, the door stays open. You're in. I do not know what happens if you do not have the word. What follows is less a bar and more a pocket of time. The interior is small but well conceived. The bar sits directly at the entrance, flanked by a few standing guests and several small tables. Beyond that, the space opens up into a lounge with seating for six to eight, and a longer bench-style area for a dozen or so. The walls are dark, the lighting low. It's the kind of place that feels like it remembers what Prohibition was, even if most of us never lived it. It felt like walking onto a movie set where we might be extras, and the main characters would enter and play out a scene. It was a perfect example of a speak easy in full swing. Even the glassware was legitimate. The decor is intentional. Books tucked into corners. Stags mounted on the wall. Nothing feels store-bought or trendy. It's immersive without trying too hard. The seats were not overstuffed contemporary types nor were the tables or even foot stools. They all looked like they came from a speak easy back in the day. About the only thing that did not look like the real thing were the patrons, as they were dressed casually, and of course the iPhones. I suppose that would have caused quite a ruckus during prohibition! Conversations are constant, layered over each other and laughter. It gets loud, but not obnoxious. There's a rhythm to the space that holds. My suggestion is to not go at 7pm on a Saturday and hope to get a prized table, couch or seat. Now, to the drinks. House Divided serves anything you ask for, but they lean into the theme. Classic cocktails done right. Throwbacks with historical lean. Creative new entries like lavender martinis that aren't just gimmicks. Each drink feels made by someone who knows what they're doing and takes pride in the process. This is not vodka-soda speed bar territory. It's craft, and it shows. I did not see a bottle of ocean spray anywhere, but what I did see were large glass bottles labeled with the juice or concoction held within. The little details are obvious! If I were to translate my usual framework:    *   Ambiance and Service: 4 stars (it can get loud and if you are here to have a conversation it will be difficult)    *   Quality: 5 stars- I had a simple drink - vodka and cranberry. With something "special" that the tender added. I don't know what it was, but the taste was wonderful! Way different than my standard go to!    *   Value? That depends on whether you're measuring price per ounce, or the fact that you just got to walk through a green door into another world. But in reality, 5 stars. Do I wish for more seating? Yes. Perhaps more quiet? Yes. But if it were those things, would it be the same? No. My guess is going on a Saturday at 7pm is going to be a bit crowded, and loud. I love a speakeasy! I love the lowlit ambience, murmur of voices, cool music and fine crafted cocktails. House Divided is not that if that is what you are looking for. It is a very small bar with voices echoing throughout the place and seemed to be drawing a pretty young crowd. My partner and I ordered a gin and vodka martini, which are not on the menu, but I would expect a fine one regardless. The bartender was pouring equal amounts vermouth to vodka and my partner caught him in time, but not without a bit of attitude from the bartender. After knocking and sharing the password, we were greeted warmly and checked in, which added to the fun experience. I ordered a Proper Old Fashioned, and my wife went with the Tropic? ...that had Mezcal. She really enjoyed hers, and my Old Fashioned was excellent. You can tell the bartender takes pride in his craft and makes each drink with care and confidence. The speakeasy itself isn't very big, but it has a lot of personality. The decor had a slightly spooky feel with some holiday touches, and the lighting and music created the perfect vibe. We sat in comfortable chairs facing the bookshelf and just enjoyed the atmosphere while sipping our drinks. This is true speak easy type of a cocktail establishment! There's no sign outside whatsoever. The only thing that gave away was the not so easy speaking voices from inside through a window. You got to knock on the door and tell a password which is available from their Instagram account. Absolutely cool! The cocktails were amazing. We had 4 different kinds and all of these were great. Tasty, balanced and with a kick! Pure joy. The service was prompt and polite. They are professionals that know what they are doing. The ambience is fully speak easy like. Notice that there are not many seats available, the place is small. Wear comfortable shoes to stand. Nobody was drunk, mostly couples having cocktails after dinner, so not a dive bar. Most people were dressed nicely. Just adults having a good time and minding their own conversations. I didn't notice any food at all. Didn't ask either. To those of you searching for one of those true hole-in-the-wall speakeasy dive bars in the greater Sacramento area, do yourself a favor and definitely give "House Divided" a try. I have a real passion for these types of places; everything from the retro look with distressed furniture to the exclusive and rare varieties of special whiskies, bourbons, and scotch liquors. Located in the heart of Old Roseville and at the corner of Lincoln St. and Washington Blvd., this place has been operating since mid-2023 while neighboring "FourScore Coffeehouse". To get here takes a little bit of investigated work in the sense that the address is not where you think it is. In fact, from Lincoln St., this place looks like an empty building with no customers. However, the entry point to House Divided is down an alley. And this alley boasts a green door with no outside security. This is where you "knock" on the door and a staff member asks you for the password. Since I had mentioned investigated work, this means you go to their Facebook or Instagram page where the password is given for that select night. I also wanted to add that this place is closed on Sunday & Monday; however, they are open for business Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00-11:00pm. As for the interior layout of this place, it is quite small to a point where they only allow so many people in at a time. And there are no windows here as the brick building shields you from any lights or outside elements from getting inside. Everything about this place looks like you've stepped back in time to the Prohibition-era with vintage photos, a deep oak bar area, and some classic aged liquors that go as far back as the early-1900's. You won't find your typical modern liquors here as the staff here has done the painstaking task of providing such an amazing and eclectic variety. I actually came here with my lady on my birthday which was the evening of Saturday 11/30/2024 at around 8:30pm. It was a packed house and every single seat was taken. Since I wanted to try a real-deal bourbon drink, I went with their "Proper Old Fashioned". This cocktail was made with aged bourbon/rye complete with Angostura bitters simple cherry & orange syrup. I will say that their specialty cocktail & old fashioned menu is quite eclectic with the perfect amount of options to cater to everyone taste bud. My drink hit the spot as this rivals some of the top speakeasy bars found in Chicago and New York City. All in all, "House Divided" is an excellent and classic speakeasy bar that I highly recommend. It does get loud; especially during Friday/Saturday nights and finding a seat may not be a guarantee. But the bartenders/hostesses and everyone that works here do an amazing job in serving the customers in a quick and timely manner. I love this place! I came here with a friend looking to catch up and this speakeasy is such a hidden gem! I came over here the night before thanksgivings. I got 2 drinks, the pomegranate martini and lavender lemon drop. I'm more inclined to the sweeter and sour drinks and I love these. The bar is bustling and loud, lots of like animals on their walls. This was a pretty cool find. I was out with a friend and wanted to find something a little different. We finished up at a driving range, had lunch, and wanted to try a new place. Who doesn't love the idea of a speakeasy?? We decided to head to Roseville in pursuit of a secret place. We found the secret door, knocked, and a young man answered. He asked for the password. Unfortunately I am not on social media and that's where you're supposed to find it. Bummer! I decided to use my own password. It worked and we entered the inner sanctum. It was a cool, smallish place with nice decor. The bar was the first thing we saw. I looked around to see a few tables and couches to the left. It was pretty early and there were only a few people there so we got a cozy little table in front of a velvety couch. I went to the bar where a burly tattooed OG bartender greeted me. I ordered an old fashioned and a raspberry lemon drop. My old fashioned was done very well. I'm on an old fashioned kick right now and love to try them at different places that look like they know how to make them. This one was really good. My friend wasn't so keen on her lemon drop, saying the lavender was a bit overpowering. We had another round and this time she had something different that she enjoyed. My second old fashioned was just as good as the first. It was getting later and more people happened to have the password and it was getting crowded. We were done, paid the tab, which wasn't bad considering how most speakeasy's can be pretty pricy. Overall, it was a great experience, the place was nice, friendly, and the drinks were done well. Okay so I been to the Candy Shop Speakeasy in downtown Roseville (Daniellos) but I had never heard of this one House Divided apparently they been open for two years now and it's been such a secret that I didn't know about it and I'm sure a lot of people don't either . You will not see any signs or anything but I will let u know how to find it okay here we go .. It's right behind Fourscore Coffee shop in the heart of downtown Roseville. You will see the door I posted a picture of and u will knock and someone will ask you for a password . I had difficulty finding it online I thought I had it but it was a different one luckily the young lady helped me with the password and I got in .. Walking in this place is so 1920's small but very cute with plenty of bar and table seatings. They got 1920s music playing in the background coming out of an old radio. The ambience is amazing! They have a seasonal cocktail menu and two regular menus. They do not serve food here, but there's so many places around there that you could walk that do. They have a cute clean bathroom u can see the brick wall it's painted red . Idk I pay attention to details I thought it was cute and clean . All the drinks were 10/10 craft cocktails . They also offer Eagle Rare and other good bourbons and more .. The staff is amazing starting from Gabby who open the door for the password to the mixologist Jason and Mariah .
