Well, I was staying in Roseville for the night, and wanted some tacos. I looked up nearby, decently rated Mexican places, and chose this one. Why does every taco come with guacamole? And pickled red onions? Why can't I get quesabirria tacos ala carte? Why does the server pronounce "aqua fresca" even worse than I do? The staff were nice enough, the food was decent but overpriced, and the pineapple mango agua fresca was good. I ordered my carnitas tacos sans guac and red onions, and with white onions and cilantro. Didn't get the cilantro. But the tacos were decent. Nothing special. The chips and salsa (free) were good. No refills offered. I came here for date night with my husband. It was later on a Friday evening. We received excellent service. We ate outside on the patio and the ambience was relaxed and welcoming. It was definitely a high-end experience with the outdoor fire pits and warmers. I loved how the outdoor seating was next-door to a rollup door so it felt like you were inside the restaurant yet also outside the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and kind and the people that brought out the food were just as pleasant. We enjoyed the complementary chips and salsa. The salsa had good flavor a little bit of heat but not too spicy. We also ordered the quesabirria taco plate, the ribeye taco plate and a side of plantains. We finished off the meal with churros. I was very surprised they do a happy hour from 9 PM to close on Fridays. The pricing of every menu item was very reasonable. For the quality of the food you were getting I was shocked at what great value the pricing offered. It's customers. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. We will definitely be back again. Parking is a little clunky just because there are several restaurants nearby so you may have to walk a little bit. But it's a nice opportunity to walk off your meal after eating and not a crazy amount of walking just enough. Jayden's been the bartender for most visits I've had, he's great and suggested my now favorite cocktail the Embers in Paradise, it's soo yummy! We came last night on a double date before going to the movies and the experience was better than the last couple of times we were visited. For our entrees, my husband and I ordered the Combo Plate with 2 tacos and a Mole Enchilada and the Ribeye Tacos. We both really enjoyed our tacos and enchilada, but we both noticed that the rice and beans were very salty. I didn't mind so much, but it was a lot for my husband. I liked the Ribeye Tacos a lot - the salsa was spicy and the pickled onions were perfect. The interior of La Popular is warm and dark, so dark that we all found it difficult to read the menu - call it old age, but maybe a brighter light above the tables would help. They have lots of tables, a picturesque bar and a nice patio area that was pretty busy at 6:30pm last night. Staff were friendly and attentive - Ashley was sweet and took great care of us. I ordered al a cart tacos and they were just ok., For $6+ a taco I was not expecting stale store bought tortillas. My husband ordered a birria burrito with enchilada sauce on top and it was also just ok. Mostly rice and beans and I think it came with cheese, but didn't taste any. I would say Chipotle is better. We came for Taco Tuesday and we decided to sit indoors even though they have a beautiful fully shaded patio. I ordered the carnitas taco, steak taco and a chicken taco which were all delicious, but my favorite was the carnitas taco. I also had a mango pineapple margarita and it was the perfect accompaniment for the tacos. My husband ordered the mole chicken enchiladas and he said they were good, but not the best he's ever eaten. We finished off our meal with the churros which were delivered warm and had chocolate sauce and caramel sauce for dipping. This place is definitely a full five stars for me! My parents live up in the Roseville area and I have been able to enjoy this spot a couple of times. All the tacos are super yummy as well as the margaritas. They have a great happy hour that includes excellent food and beverage choices. They also have a nice ambiance both in and outdoors. The bar is a square formation which is great because you can catch up on sports on the tvs from any angle indoors. They have a good salsa sampler with the chips and the guacamole is great as well for an appetizer. I can't wait to go back and try some more items! We wanted to give a shoutout to Misty for making our group dinner such a special one. She was attentive, timely, and helped us celebrate a birthday at our table when we came unprepared with only our cheers and horrible singing voices. Her service is a five star experience all around! We had a 6pm reservation, and while we arrived at different times, we had rounds of appetizers and drinks before we finally ordered entrees. One person had dietary restrictions, and her meal came out incorrectly, but Misty was quick to help her fix her order. Enchiladas are so small, but tacos were delicious and worth the price. I'd go for the creamy chipotle shrimp tacos any day. And I loved my lil cactus cocktail (the Desert Rose), that was mezcal forward without overwhelming the prickly pear flavor. However, we were seated in outdoor metal chairs in the indoor space next to the window - some couldn't get into the seats themselves because of the arm bars, and had to manually rearrange chairs so those on the inside could get the armless ones. We were also in direct line of the dj speaker that was great, but so so loud. We were shouting and playing musical chairs to chat with each other. The bartender, Ashley, set me up pretty quickly with a spicy mango jalapeño margarita. It's one of their specialty cocktails and it was very tasty. I also had a coupon for some guacamole from the hotel so I ordered that as well. The guac was very tasty and super fresh. The portion was huge, too. I finished that up as my dinner and was so close to ordering another margarita- they all looked so good! Alas, I resisted. The ambiance in here is very Mexican hipster, music was pretty loud and lighting was dim, but decor was very cool. I couldn't leave without ordering a butter cake to-go. I really appreciated having these options for us two pregnant women who weren't able to indulge in spirits! The servers were all great and very accommodating when we asked to be moved to a table with larger chairs with pillows for us to be more comfortable. For my main I ordered two tacos and a side of beans and rice. The food was good, not amazing. For me personally, it lacked a bit of flavor and tasted a bit bland. I would imagine this would be a great date spot or a good place to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night. Our Saturday lunch time server was friendly and the menu has plenty of choices. Loved that they have Mexican Coke in the bottle...nothing better! Downside is having to pay for chips and salsa...please fix this! I decided to try their Chicken Tortilla Soup, the Hubster had the mole enchiladas, and the kiddo ordered the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos. All looked delicious when they were delivered to our table. I will say that my daughter disclosed that their portions, under the previous management, were more generous. However, with that said, the food was tasty and we enjoyed it. Came to La Popular late night for Taco Tuesday and was really impressed!! The restaurant is beautifully decorated very much a vibe! They even had live music! Despite being late, our waitress came over and took our order, giving recommendations on the best options from the special taco Tuesday menu. We basically ordered two of each option and every single item was incredible. My favorite were the ribeye taco and the Carnitas taco. They were super flavorful. There is a bar in the middle of the restaurant so you can grab drinks quickly. There's even a Brewery next door which has flowing draft beers. . The dessert was really great and we had a churro with chocolate and caramel dip. The cocktails that we got to choose was a habanero strawberry margarita and a virgin pina colada which was really refreshing. While the staff was attentive and service was fast, the small portions and pressured atmosphere made us feel rushed to finish our dinner. It's also a bit of a letdown that the chips aren't unlimited given how much salsa they provide for the salsa tray. We would have stayed for more drinks if we didn't feel like they were flipping the table, so we'll likely stick to the bar next time. I have a local customer and often stay at the nearby hotel and La Popular is just across the parking lot, a convenient place to dine. I've eaten here twice. The inside is posh, with lots of bar chairs (I usually travel solo so bar seating is a must for me), and there is a nice outdoor patio that could be fun with a group. The first visit I wasn't to hungry so tried the Street Corn tacos which were good. Something different. The second time I ordered the Short Rib Enchiladas and there was something in their Colorado sauce I did not like. For me really killed the dish. The Margaritas were good. But the bar service needs improvement. During my second visit the bartender just disappeared for ~ 10mins. Patrons arrived and were just sitting there.
