I always have to pop my head into a Hot Topic whenever I walk past a location. This one is located in the Westfield Valley Fair Mall. I only walked in far enough to check out their horror section that was setup in the very front of the store. So many Art the Clown options and Ghostface! I almost walked out buying a Loungefly Trick r Treat bag and a super cute pumpkin/Fall dress. The Loungefly was only $40 which is actually on the cheaper side, but I decided to not pull the trigger during this visit. Staff came and offered assistance - the young lady who complimented my daughter's Huntrix shirt was super friendly! I'm sure I will pop in again next time I am in the area! Check them out! read more

I used to be a frequent Hot Topic shopper, many years ago and to my surprise, there's been quite a shift in the variety of items and trends that people are currently following. I was quite surprised with the massive amount of anime themed items that are on display throughout the store. Haven't been years since I used to be a frequent visitor. I found a very difficult to keep myself immersed and focused while searching for things to gather my interest throughout the store. Yes, Hot Topic still sells plenty of rock 'n' roll, gothic, and pop culture merchandise but I felt that the current iteration lacks that edginess it once had before. Ended up purchasing two T-shirts, one for myself and my best friend but aside from that, I couldn't keep myself caring, long enough to continue my pursuit for items that appealed to me. I felt the purchase was decently price as it was licensed from the actual band, and it wasn't a cheap knockoff that plagued the digital market. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and attentive not just for me, but other shoppers throughout the store. This is a good location and I wouldn't mind returning at some point if I'm ever back in the area. 4/5. read more

I come here often now to pick up online Pop orders and they staff is always super helpful and friendly. At times when it gets busy, they can be a little over bearing with the 'can i help you find anything today' but I understand the culture as I used to work retail and understand having to ask customers if they need help, so not really an issue. Specifically want to shout out an employee name Jasmine, came on a Saturday morning and she was super helpful and helped me get my Hot Topic cash redeemed for a purchase and listened to her explain the spiel to a few other customers as well. This store has been around forever, and I'm so glad it has. I was shopping around for a few things for a Halloween costume and my daughter. Wandered into the store not really expecting to buy anything. Usually just browse and see what catches my eye. I noticed a Junji ito shirt on the wall that was super subtle. Wasn't the usual face melting dark style we all are familiar with when it comes to his art work. I asked about the shirt and I was helped by Brittany. Unfortunately was informed that that shirt was sold but upon mentioning Brittany showed me this misfits x Junji ito shirt. I've actually never really listened to the misfits but it was such an epic collab I had to have one. Ended up getting the bright neon green & purple one pictured. Also, when I mentioned loving collaboration they pulled out a DC Comics x Megadeth T-shirt. Initially I was turned off for personal reasons lol... but the design was so sick. Kept it in mind. Brittany was super kind and helped me find what I needed. Aileen helped me at the register and got me signed up for their rewards program. Thanks again! I actually ended up wandering back in a few days later and ordered the Batjoker, DC Comics x Megadeth T-shirt. This is long but worth the read, save yourself the trip and go to another HT location. Point of this review : This specific location SUCKS. And if you want to be belittled and talked sh*t on once you leave the store, this is the place for you! It's not the store, it's the employees. Especially the Manager! The one with purple hair. She's rude to her coworkers and she's rude to costumers. I came in today and was greeted by a kind gentleman at the door. Regrettably, I didn't get his name but he was so nice and attentive. While at the store, the purple haired manager -- grilled and belittled this poor man IN THE FRONT OF THE STORE! She propped her rude buttt on the launch table by the door and talked maaad sh^t about this man. It was definitely a conversation to be had in private, not out in the open where everybody can hear you. Don't humiliate your coworkers like that! That's some stank coochie vibe. The man she was talking down to was very nice and patient with her. The awkward conversation was interrupted by the UPS delivery guy who came to the front of the store to let the manager know he dropped off a shipment. She was wailing around the store about how she "didn't receive her shipment" and she could just say she never received it ... after just being made aware by UPS man that their boxes are out the back door since nobody opened up for him. I was towards the back of the store and the delivery man was trying to get buzzed in for 5 MINUTES!!! But guess what... nobody heard it cause purple hair chick was at the front talking sh^t and power tripping over her coworker at the front of the store when she should be in the back taking care of BoF sh^t like a real manager should. The other chick who works there was SO LOUD! Like overly friendly and obnoxiously loud! I wanted to leave the store, she was so annoying she clearly has NO boundaries or was just too young to know what boundaries are since she straight up asked for a person's phone number while this person was checking out with their GIRLFRIEND! It was awkward. She invited herself into hanging out with this person outside of work as this person stood there mind-blown by the audacity this chick had. I was SO glad she left for lunch shortly after lol but before she did, she made sure to talk shit about the couple that just left and was so proud of herself for "swooping in" on the person while their girlfriend stood there. Anyway, after that sh^tshow I lined up to make an exchange and check out. Well.. long and beFckinhold the purple hair manager was the one to help me. Omg I die. I walked up to the counter and she yells at me for not understanding the return policy. I bought some items from another HT store and asked the associate who helped me if I can return the items in case I got the wrong one.. I was told it's fine as long as it has receipt. Well, Barney basically said I should go to the other store and deal with it there. I pulled out the receipt and I mistakenly grabbed a Victoria's Secret receipt from my bag. It took me a minute to determine that I had the wrong receipt since I didn't have my glasses on and can't see. This Barney the dinosaurbitch said "yeah well that won't work here cause that's Victoria's Secret receipt" well no sh^t, Sherlock! I asked if she was the manager and she said yes. I told her " you need to learn how to talk to people especially your employees. You can't be all condescending and expect me to take you seriously. You giving out real hotdog water energy right now." She didn't say a thing. We finished our transaction with me killing her with kindness as much as I could. But I don't think I'll ever go back here. I call the store and she said there were 2 shipments so I should have asked for the other one! How else would they know?? Pretty funny place. I come here every once and awhile to buy someone a gift or to get me some of them Funko Pops! Oh, I love the Funko Pops. It's pretty much your favorite fictional character (or in some cases real life personalities) with giant cute cartoony heads. Almost in every single one of their location they hire alternative girls with lots of piercing that are really spunky in nature. So the moment you enter you're greeted by a very loud voice. Loud, but friendly. Lots of weird things to buy, but I like it. If I was ten years younger, I'd probably be spending a lot more time here. read more

This Hot Topic does not yell "Welcome to the Gates of Hell" all over it like other locations, which makes it easier to approach and take a look around. I was looking for a certain item today, but was not approached or greeted by any workers so I had to ask one for help. She showed me where the item was and even offered to bring more out from the back. As I reached for one of the items she told me that it was a bit funky and handed me a better quality one and on sale. The cashier seemed all over the place and took her time serving the couple in front of us. Alls good! She was cute and very friendly. I don't think I've ever had a worker tell me "Bye!" before ... it was strange, perhaps what's stranger is that I said "Bye" back. Haha! I was kind of disappointed with this location, although all Hot Topics are pretty much alike to me. This one didn't have nearly as good a selection as the one in Pleasanton, and that one is a lot closer, too. Walking in, you see a bunch of anime knick-knacks and clothing for all ages alike. As cute as it is, it's dreadfully expensive, as are all the Disney merchandise as well. They had some clearance in the back of the store, but I didn't find it very impressive since the selection was lacking anything worth buying. (i.e. "Blood on the Dance Floor" T-shirts. I didn't know they were still popular). Staff are okay, they greet you constantly, whether you like it or not lol. One thing I dislike about this store is that it's WAY too narrow, it's hard to navigate with so many people pushing and shoving their way through this tiny, little store. I'll probably venture through next time I come to this mall, but it's not on the top of my list of "go-to's". Great for teens. read more

I love Hot Topic. I love when I ask my gf " Want to come with me to Hot Topic." She just looks at me like she doesn't want to know me any more. But for band t shirts, I don't know of any superior place. SInce I was 16 ( Fear Factory) all the way to now ( Tribe called quest) , they have all the current band tees, usually no more than $15-20. It doesn't get a fair chance in the world because of it's gothic exterior. But if you like band tees, this is the place. I have been buying from this store for a while now. My kids love this store and the merchandise. I find good deals. I loved working with Amber then I got to know Alejandro and Jay. They are so nice and sweet. They take their time to explain the deals and how the coupons work. I go back because of them. There are new employees that are weird. One asked me why I like working with Alejandro, to which I said because he is nice and explains the deals to me. He makes the effort to help my purchase go smoothly. For example, I didn't know about an expiration date for coupons because I didn't it read it. I think there are ways to say things. She said the same thing but in a different way like she didn't want me to use it. That's why I prefer to work with them and not the weird ones. They don't know me and don't even bother to get to know me. One of them was wearing a t-shirt with an offensive message: "I shave my balls for this." Anyone is free to wear whatever but if you use it during your working hours then you are representing Hot Topic while wearing it. So... I came here to buy a really cute Totoro dress I had seen a picture of. I wound up exchanging it for a different size, but couldn't try it on in-store because there is ONE FITTING ROOM!? and there were a bunch of small children in there for 20+ minutes. So I had to try on the new size at home, where I realized that it wasn't a size issue - I just don't like the fit of the dress, the way it is cut, etc. I return to Hot Topic to return the dresses, where I'm told I cannot get my money back - only a merchandise credit - without the original receipt, which I didn't have with me. Apparently they cannot see what method of payment I used from the secondary receipt. (Sounds like they could use a POS update - the computer should know the method of payment, even without the original receipt. It's a computer.) Now, at this point, I've been here 3 times. Pretty annoyed. I go home and look in bag which the dresses were originally put in,and there is no original receipt to be found. Did I lose it? Possibly. I don't know. One thing I do know is this: if you have a WEIRD return policy when it comes to even exchanges, the employee needs to VOICE THIS POLICY at the time of the exchange. AND STAPLE THE RECEIPTS TOGETHER. I work at a retailer where, even though we have a normal policy regarding returning exchanges, we STILL staple the receipts together because it helps the customer stay organized and it helps us to avoid future problems. So my suggestion to this store is to get a damn stapler and use it. Just because your policy is familiar to you as an employee DOES NOT mean it's familiar to everyone. Putting it on the receipt is NOT ENOUGH! Again, I work at a retailer with a couple of policies that customers usually don't know (despite the fact that is stated on our coupons), and as tired as I get of repeating it constantly, I always inform customers to whom it is relevant before they make their transaction. Now I'm out $40 and as a college student, I'm pretty pissed. Btw, calling customers "sweetie" and "honey" is only acceptable if you're super old. I'm talking 80+. This is the closest Hot Topic to where I currently live. I have shopped at various Hot Topic locations since I was 12. I like the way their jeans fit me and I can always find cute additions to my wardrobe. There is a creepy guy there (black shoulder length hair) who at first would make weird comments and follow me around (very unprofessional) but whatever, some people are just like that I guess? I used to go to this location about once every couple of weeks...until I bought a hoodie with gloves attached at the Blossom Hill location and realized the girl there accidentally gave me a glove off of a different sized hoodie, which was too small. I live closer to this one so I went in to exchange. NICK (shoulder length black hair and always creepy) said I would have to go and return the hoodie at the location I got it. This is a lie. I used to work for another Hot Topic and that is not a policy. Anyhow, I asked if he could just please do the exchange, as I was already there and did not want to drive to the Oakridge mall. He gave me extreme attitude but did it. He was a jerk during the entire transaction. I tried to ease the tension by talking about movies but he made me feel like a complete idiot. He was so mean I tried to email Hot Topic's corporate office, which I could not find the email of unfortunately. Now if I see him I do not go in. I have been there once since this happened and it turns out he was indeed working. He looked at me, did not greet me (A HUGE part of the Hot Topic job) and when I walked out he rudely YELLED bye at me. I am disgusted by his actions. Customer service here has always been amazing! Came here yesterday because I had a feeling that a pair of leggings that I got online was defective. Sure enough when I compared the ones that I got to the ones that were in-store, it was indeed defective! So I grabbed a pair of the leggings that I needed and went up to the counter hoping to get the same discounted price that I got online for my order to exchange it for the same pair. Sondra the sales associate was very sweet and kind. She quickly helped me with my exchange (along with a return) for the same discounted price. Score! Love this location! I needed to go to Hot Topic to pick up some last minute gifts for my nieces. And although they do carry some fun, kitschy items---I will give anyone permission to slap me upside the head if I ever go in there again. The salesgirl at the front (who could have been 13---someone check her work permit!) had no idea of what an appropriate volume to speak to customers with. She literally was 2 feet away from us yet felt compelled to scream out every time she spoke to us. In the 10 minutes we were there, she asked us an upwards of 5 times if we have heard about their "buyer cards". Um, young lady, after the 2nd time of saying "We're not interested", what makes you think we'll change our minds?? Same gal continues to "shriek" word for word, along to EVERY song that was being played over head. OMG.....kill me now. That gal wasn't the only questionable salesperson.....80% of the staff yelled back and forth at each other with questions and random commentary. Folks...we don't need to hear that. I quickly grabbed the goods for my nieces and hurried out. I would never shop here again. Maria the store manager was very rude. She wouldn't let me buy more than 1 squishmallows. I went there to buy 3 I went to the hot topic website to go order and there's none. I go to Amazon, ebay, and mercari there all twice to three times the price than the ones I wanted are worth. So not worth my time anymore to go to this hottopic. I would rather go to one in Fresno if that meant better customer service and a store manager who doesn't yell or raise her tone at me. Growing up, I used to get all of my favorite rave outfits at HT. I still remember my most favorite items- a silver hologram fractal skirt, white astroturf halter top, rainbow colored eyelashes, and bubble gum pink vinyl mini. Those were the days. Two kids later, I would never dream of wearing those things. Okay, maybe for Halloween! My kids love this place! My daughter finds the cutest band tees, bracelets, and hair accessories here. The place is a shadow of what it once was - instead of interesting goth and punk clothes - it's now an emo kid's rainbow colored paradise. No, thank you. The prices are often high - $22 for a t-shirt, $48 for a corset top - but you can really score when the clearance is an additonal 50% off. I shopped here (more like made my grandma come in with me) in middle school when I mostly got the kiddy style stuff like a Blues Clues sweatshirt and Oscar the Grouch tee shirt. Then I pretty much stopped shopping here all thru high school. Now that I shop for myself with my own money, I come here for the more outragous stuff my mom would've never let me wear back then. Now for the goods and bads of this place. Goods: -Some of the stuff is super awesome! I got a great light weight black zip up with an old school tattooesque design on the back (cherry blossoms, wings, etc) -Pretty decent selecion of gauges and body jewlery -Some cool Disney stuff you can't find at the Disney store. -Good on returns. My boyfriend bought some gauges and reliezed they were the wrong size when he walked out the door. The lady was super nice about us exchanging them, especially since we hadn't even opened them yet and had just been in there 60 seconds ago. And most places don't let you return body jewlery (totally understanble though), so it was nice she was so cool about it. Bad: -Crowded and small, especially when packed with emo and punk kids (some who REEK of pot and make me sick) -Most clothes are pretty cheap quality -To much hardcore and emo stuff. I would like to see more pin up girl esque style of stuff (classy, sassy and cool!) -EXPENSIVE -If you don't seem like you fit in there the workers seem to have attitude. Hence when I come in wearing more normal clothes with my tattoos covered I'm treated differently then when I'm wearing clothes I bought from here with my tattoos showing. -They have a stamp card program here, but most of the workers don't offer you a card or ask you if you already have one to stamp it for you. read more
