I had heard about the Hot Pot all you can eat spot in Wallingford for so many years and was so excited to finally give it a try. The portions were plentiful for all you can eat, my husband and I even questioned if we could've ordered half portions. So absolutely come hungry if you're checking out Hot Pot in Wallingford. I got Thai ice tea to drink and my husband kept sipping mine so he had to get his own. It was very fresh. I was also surprised they had dim sum items for order too, which I happen to be in the mood for. It's not the same as a full dim sum restaurant but I enjoyed what they had! I like that there's a button at each table to request service for more broth, more food items, or anything else. This is super useful in the hotpot setting since sometimes we want more broth and need to flag down someone. If anything could be better I would see if there's a way to better configure the space in the restaurant. The sauce area was a little cramped and I felt like other customers (who didn't have any sense of space) kept bumping into me. I did ultimately get the sauces I needed and the combinations are plenty! There were plenty of options for the AYCE selection. There's also options for if you want a combo instead of the all you can eat. I overall enjoyed all of the food and would come back to try different broths and AYCE items.

As new Hot Pot restaurants are appearing out of nowhere, I decided to try the place that is suspiciously straight to the point with their very creative name : "Hot Pot". To start off my journey, I took the drive down to Wallingford and pulled into a very depressing plaza. It looks old, abandoned, complete with a large empty parking lot. However, it actually has an Asian market, Big Lots and even an old movie theatre that I have never heard of. So yes I would consider this restaurant to be a hole in the wall in between three (3) large but rather empty businesses. Maybe it was just an off day. As you walk into Hot Pot, you'll realize that this restaurant is quite small and you'll hope to God the ventilation is decent with all these steaming "Hot Pots" in a small space. Luckily, the ventilation was fine and they utilize the space to the best of their ability while cramming as many tables in here as possible. There are also these curtains that provide privacy in between each booth complete with a button that you press to call your server. Yes you get a button to call your server so that you may be left in peace to eat until your broth runs dry or you need more water as your broth is too spicy for you. Curtains and a server summoner (the button)? Sounds very similar to how they do so in East Asian countries whenever I watch a video of "Authentic Ramen Restaurant in Japan" on YouTube. If I had no idea where I was and simply woke up in the booth I was in, I would think I was on some expensive trip to downtown Tokyo or somewhere in Taiwan. It was a nice refreshing out of the country but yet still in the country experience. Very authentic, or just different from everyone else, for me at least. Now to compare with the place that is literally taking over this state by storm The Hungry Pot, that's the difference. Hungry Pot has a more Americanized and trendier theme to it as it looks like a familiar restaurant but with a unique concept to it. It's great in its own way because Hot Pot itself is new to many people in this area and they make it easy for you, but here at Hot Pot in Wallingford, any prior experience would help you with the tight spaces, limited sauce bar and complex menu items. Also, the sauce bar didn't really have any instructions or suggested recipes. You were just expected to know what to do because you've done this before. Limited options but they had most of the essentials. The Hungry Pot restaurants that I have been to or heard of all appear to be much more casual, busier, louder and the servers were trained to treat everyone like first timers because well, while I was there apparently it was everyone else's first time. It was a great beginner experience. Here at Hot Pot in Wallingford it is much quieter and intimate. The servers here didn't instruct until asked to do so. They are very kind! But they appear to be used to a more intermediate level of Hot Poters. I guess ill use that term. Hot Poter: a person that enjoys eating Hot Pot. The food itself at any Hot Pot place is hard to elaborate on because if it's not good, it could easily be user error since you do all the work. A few things you can easily compare is the quality, variety and complexity of menu options. Here at Hot Pot, they have a rather large menu with an All You Can Eat option, Combos and Dim Sum. Initial broth quality is also a huge deal because it can determine your entire meal! I have never had a bad broth from anywhere but just keep in mind Hot Pot had a broth for everyone. Sweet, creamy, spicy, salty, purposely bland, whatever you want. It can always be altered by your choice of meats, vegetables and sauces from the sauce bar. In conclusion, I had absolutely zero quality issues with anything that I ordered. I am also pleased that they serve Dim Sum options so late in the day and even though it's not as good as Dim Sum would be from a Dim Sum specialty restaurant, it was very good and the fact that they serve it late, say less. Anyways before I get even further off track, I just want to say that I LOVED this place. And ALWAYS get the all you can eat option, unless you know what you want. I won't tell you what to do. It's just my reccomendation. Enjoy your intermediate level Hot Pot experience here at Hot Pot in Wallingford, if you're ready.

I love this and the fact everyone gets their own pot makes it that much better, and if you want to share just have everyone get a different flavor. . 31.95 all you can eat for 2 hours. Selection of options is pretty big, meat, seafood, veggies, dumpling, rice noodle, lo mien , I went for the spicy broth which was definitely spicy but addicting! It's a fun night out, not just a meal but something to do with friends, it's an experience

Hot Pot was just the type of service and spot that I like. Barely any acknowledgment just let me eat and enjoy my alone time lol. The all you can eat was soo much, so next time I go (and there will definitely be a next time) I will just get the lunch combo. The broth was good, sauces were good and I finally itched my hot pot craving. The only reason for 3 stars is because the freshness of the ingredients could have much improvement. Something didn't agree with my stomach and I got a little sick afterwards.

I never been here before but today I have business trip to Wallingford with my husband. But I was hungry main Asian restaurant was closed on Monday. But I found this place from Yelp. Only me and my husband are customers I ordered All you can eat buffets at rate 32$ per person. I selected Kimchi soup and my husband oxtail soup. I ordered many items from the menu but I found they didn't bring it complete some items was missing but I did not care for that. When I finished 1and 2 tray I started to order 2 more tray. Recommend beef , chicken and pork slide for main dish shrimp and mussels squid for seafood. Meat ball and sausage doesn't recommend I don't like it. Vermicelli veggies and eggs that good choice. You should ask for small blow for made your soup cold and easy to eat. If you need anything please ring the bell on your table. Staff will come to service you. Don't order to much because they will charge back to you for wasted foods. But for me that's ok we're professional for Buffet 555 .

Given the Wallingford/Meriden area and lack of truly diverse restaurants, I was surprised to hear that a hot pot restaurant like this was opening in such a small strip mall. It was interesting overhearing locals trying to figure out the etiquette of how hot pot meals worked, but thankfully most people who have come in have seemed willing and happy to learn! Basically, this restaurant has people order their own single bowl of broth that cooks on a burner in front of every seat. This is opposed to the more "traditional hotpot" of one big bowl of boiling soup that is more communal. If a group goes with the more popular "all you can eat" option, they then choose from a selection of meats, seafoods, mushrooms, and veggies to add to the broth as it boils. There is also a DIY sauce counter in the back that has essential Asian sauces (oyster, soy, peanut, sesame, etc) for dipping your foods in as well. The sauce counter is also in front of the kitchen so if those new to hot pot sauces need help, there is always somebody willing to lend a hand (or ask me if I'm there of course!). And if all this is too much, there's always simple straightforward dishes you can order from the kitchen you can order sit-down or to-go. I think the individual bowls works better overall given patrons in the area would want to try different broths rather than go all in on a spicy kimchi broth. At $4.50 a cup, the "bubble milk tea" seems overpriced for around 12 ounces of fluid. The "bubbles" are not boba, they were actually jellies. Other than that, I think the a person can easily get their money's worth from the AYCE if you know what you're doing. The wait staff are incredibly kind and the place has been immaculate so far. I would highly recommend for the people locals in the area who want a food adventure, or for those well-traveled who need something filling and warm.

My friend described this place as the place where the windows are boarded up not because it's bad but because they know what they are doing and can't be bothered with the fancy stuff. The very plainly named Hot Pot does what it says on the tin, it is a place you can get Hot Pot. It's pretty decently priced and has an ACYE for $30/2 Hours which honestly I think is always a rip off but I appreciate the thought. This place was packed on a Saturday and we barely managed to get a table before the true dinner rush came through. The space is comfortable and take out/dine in is clearly marked. Bathrooms and condiments are in the back, they will bring the bowls with the food. The booth had hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes, with a temperature guide and thermometer for the proper cooking temperature for the meats. As I am vegan I will primarily be discussing the vegetables. The vegetable broth is comprised of raw vegetables that you cook on the hot pot, but hey, then at least you know it's vegan. They have a variety of veggies and four types of tofu (egg tofu not included unless you are vegetarian). I really loved the freshness of the food and the courteousness of the staff. The second portions of tofu were not as generous as the first so I would probably just try the regular hot pot for $20 and get my money's worth that way because most ACYE hot pot is wasted on noodles and broth. They will not give you as much meat as you think you can eat, lest you pay the $11 per pound penalty for wasting food. I really liked hot pot and would come back. I not had it since moving to CT so it's a nice way to scratch the hot pot itch without traveling to Hartford or NYC.

Ok so...... we decided to check this place out tonight. What fun! We did a lot of laughing cuz we ordered the all you can eat at 26.95pp. Well... just a word of advice listen to the server and order one or maybe two of your choices to start, you can always add more. We had a crazy amount of food. We literally burst out laughing. Like oh my god, this is going to be a marathon, my bf was like " we got this " my daughter and her girlfriend were yup we are paying the 9.99 food waste fee per lb. I said just eat slow and chew it a lot! LOL. You had to be there. We did it! At one point we were laughing so hard making fun of ourselves. We were plotting a diversion to toss some fish balls into the ceiling fan vents. Jk jk. Would we go back. Heck yeah! Was fun and fresh. Would we order a bit less to start. Yesssss! We all had the spicy broth which at first seemed like it would be a tad spicy but once you started adding and cooking the meats and veggies it mellowed out and was yummy. I added some soy and roasted garlic scallions and cilantro to my broth . Fair warning. The pots get hot! Everyone has their own to do with what you like. Also, the shrimp were a bit offputting with heads, tails, shells. The kids were talking to them, it was a scene! Lol. Check it out will be going back with friends.

Absolutely loved this place! The idea of hot pot is a broth cooking method. You pick your broth and then you pick a variety of raw meats, veggies, and noodles to cook in the broth. On the wall at your booth there is a cooking time guide line. We ended up doing the all you can eat and felt like it was worth it for $26 each. If you pick plates individually they are $4-$7 each. There is also a dinner combination for $19 a person that lets you choose 1 broth and 2 meats and comes with a chef's selection veggie platter. In my opinion, it's worth it to just do the all you can eat and try a little of everything. Be warned though, the plates are pretty big and they charge you for a lot of food overage. Everything was super yummy and cooking your own food is a great change of pace.. great for date night !

Very disappointing Hot Pot.

Heard great things about this place. Nothing great about it. Tastes like a petting zoo. Awful. Everything is frozen, meats, seafood n dumplings. If it's frozen, it's not fresh. Leaving so much food behind. Just can't stomach it. Very disappointing!! Eat at ur own risk. MUST ADD THIS! They took our hot pots off the bill!!! Didn't expect that. Nice!! That got the waiter a $20 tip!

Great AYCE hotpot! My friends invited me to check out this restaurant, and it was only open 2-3months ago. They have mainly one AYCE option, but you can opt for ordering individual dishes per plate. I posted a photo of the menu as reference. Seems like a family run buisness. Service was great, we were constantly checked up on, even though there was a call button if we needed anything. They have bubble tea, beer, wine, tea and other beverages. I personally didn't get the bubble tea since they are all made from powder... Next to the beverage menu they had a list of foods and recommended it based on time and temperature of how a certain food is to be cooked, which was great! They had their own sauce station, and there were sooooooo many options. They had the babeque sauce, garlic, soysauce, scallion options, but also others like ketchup, mustard and vinegar. Your sauce combinations are endless. We were in a group of 4 and each got our individual soups. The nice part was we were able to control the power of our soup individually with a remote control. I got the oxtail w. Wolf berry stock and my boyfriend got the korean kimchi stock. The oxtail stock came with a bone in meat, and the flavor was light. The kimchi stock was packed with flavor along with cabbage from kimchi I'm assuming. We got a variety of dishes from the menu and it came out quickly. The assortment of dishes we got were from dumplings to meat to veggies and seafood. Overall it tasted great. Some of the meat came out frozen, but not sure if that's so it's easier to slice into thinner pieces. So I know not everything here is fresh, but it did taste pretty good! I personally wouldn't come here to just order individual dishes on its own. If you're down for some warm soup and a ton of food on a cold evening, definitely go for the AYCE at HotPot!

Best Thai food in Wallingford hands down…read more The pad Thai is the best I've had. It's hard not to order it every time. But everything on the menu is delicious so ya gotta branch out. The location in in between two pizza places on the North Haven side of Rt 5 in Wallingford. It's our go-to take out place. Recently we dined in and it was even better. Their tom kha is so flavorful. The green curry beef noodle dish was huge and delicious with the right amount of spice. Unassuming simplicity inside with more take-away orders than diners, it seemed. But dining area was nice. I've dined here years ago and it was different. I imagine they changed owners or renovated in some way, because it's extra good.

Food- spring rolls are always good. However, I will say my go to is generally the pad Thai. Sometimes it is spot on and other times it almost tastes like there are different cooks, and it where it tastes like it came from a wok that is too hot/singed flavor and the right flavors just aren't there. I did notice they changed to more biodegrading to go products which is nice though! My family member got the Massaman Currt and reported it was not as good as usual, this time around it was very soupy with minimal spice. I've never eaten inside but this looks like a small hole in the wall spot from the outside , it is very quaint. Overall, return out of convenience when visiting the area from time to time but wish there were more consistency with when those dishes have been closer to their best!
