My friends have been raving about China King for a quite some time. They love their chicken with garlic sauce dinner combo (with an egg roll and fried or white rice). I was a bit skeptical at first, but one of them owns a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco so I had to believe his word when he said the food here was good. I decided to grab my first take-out from this place tonight and called in that order ahead. The food was ready when I got there in 10 mins! The gentleman was friendly and accommodating when I requested for chili oil as well. The restaurant has tables and chairs so one can actually dine in. However, it's mainly for takeout so a lot of people just come to pick up their food or have it be delivered. There is a large parking lot so not to worry. Aside from good portion I was given, I was impressed by the well-balanced proportions of fried rice and garlic chicken/veggies. Some places like to skimp out on the meat and veggies by giving you more rice, but this was not the case here. The veggies were not overcooked and the chicken was soft and tasted fresh. As for the massive egg roll, it was crispy and had good filling of pork and veggies. FYI my friend said that you can switch out the egg roll for a spring roll. The requested chili oil on the side was a great condiment to the dish since I love spicy food. Lastly, the fortune cookie tasted fresh... I was shocked by the poor reviews below, but I realize that the ownership has changed so I recommend giving China King another try and it will prove its worthiness of the crown (haha). Never again, man. Never. Order: Small General Tso's (no side) Small Plain Lo Mein Small Chicken also Lo Mein Chicken Wings Chicken & Broccoli Combination w/Pork Fried Rice Spring Rolls Extra Egg Roll What I was charged for: Full General Tso's Combo w/Pork Fried Rice (+ everything else listed above) Total Cost: $53.91 The General Tso chicken was basically inedible. There was so much pink, I'm almost sick of the color itself. It was soggy, visually undercooked, the sauce was tasteless -- as if there were no salt nor effort in seasoning it. I threw on my sous chef hat and tried to fry them up a bit with some oil, but, these efforts were futile. They got less soggy but there was still a bunch of pink because they couldn't cook evenly since the outside was already mostly cooked, and they basically would've burned if I didn't give up. These ended up straight in the trash. The chicken in the Chicken with Broccoli was also very soggy and tasteless. There was also a non-saucy part that was just... white... and weird. This ended up in the trash too. The rice was also extremely lackluster. Both orders of Lo Mein were definitely over-done, and tasted like it too. There was barely any sauce on them, and they were very dry. The Chicken Wings, I'd give a solid 7/10 mainly because I would've liked them to be cooked a little bit more through -- there was still some pink spots (but mostly toward the joints and not in the bigger pieces of meat). But the skin was nice and crispy, the properly-cooked pieces of meat tasted fine. A little greasy/oily, but, probably the best thing out of this entire waste of $54 next to the Egg Rolls, Spring Rolls, and surplus of fortune cookies. I mean, at least I got a free 2L Sprite out of this, amirite? On the actual bright side, the staff are extremely polite and personable! Very pleasant and thorough to talk to. But. When I spend this much money on dinner for my family, I expect to to be at least decent. This is a stone's throw away from it, and I don't waste money a second time. NEVER. AGAIN. read more

This meal was amazing! For me, the General Tsao's was absolutely perfect-- light and tangy, bordering sweet! If you like spicy this is not for you! The chicken and broccoli was also excellent! At other restaurants I've noticed this dish can tend to be a disappointment if the chicken is too mushy but at China King it was just right! Kudos to this fine establishment! read more

First of all, I order from China King all the time & it's usually great American Chinese food. This is the 1st time I say with much regret, that my order was not good this time. I ordered the Sesame Chicken & while eating my meal I found a 6" long dark colored human hair inside my food. I honestly have to admit I was completely grossed out & spit out my food, unable to continue eating another bite. Then I grabbed the fortune cookie that came with my meal, which I figured MUST be safe to ear, except when I opened it there wasn't even a fortune inside it. Cmon! Hair in my food AND "no fortune" fortune cookies, that's definitely not a good look on China Kings part. I drive by this place on my way to work and I've thought about stopping in many times, but I never did. I didn't eat any kind of takeout for nearly 4 months and longer since I'd had Chinese food. Since I started eating takeout again, this place was near the top of my list. I finally called in my order from work one day and went down the pick up my order. I paid and waited a few minutes for my order to be ready. I noticed plastic sheeting up all over the place, and they have a little system for paying and picking up food. Seems like they're on point in that regard, I hope that one day I'll be able to sit down and eat a meal here. Now, this next part is very important: I ordered the General Tso's tofu and the Szechuan tofu, and their General Tso's tofu just might be the best I've ever had. It was absolutely amazing. Seriously. Like, wow. I almost don't want to go anywhere else for General Tso now. The Szechuan tofu was really good as well, but that General Tso! Restaurants off all sorts can be inherently deceiving. Sometimes the biggest, best, fanciest restaurants can be bland and boring, while often the little hidden gems have the best food. Great takeout and delivery! We ordered here one night and the food was really good. It came quickly, the portions were huge and it was hot. The wait for delivery was reasonable as well. Staff was friendly on the phone and when they arrived at our house. My dish could have used a bit of extra kick, but I do like stuff on the spicier side. China king is by far one of the best places to get Chinese food in the area. It's a mom and pop shop that gives HUGE portions and makes delicious food. I always get the chicken and broccoli dinner meal, with crab rangoons. The vegetables are always crisp and fresh and crispy. The crab rangoons (and egg rolls) are crispy and never greasy. The singular redeeming factor was the egg roll, it was pretty good. My shrimp and broccoli was absolutely drowning in sauce - which was overly sweet. But the absolute worst part of my meal was the pineapple chicken "fried" rice. Nothing about the rice was fried. It was literally overcooked white rice with a ton of this weird reddish sauce and huge chunks of cold canned pineapple. I'll attach a pic bc you have to see it to believe it. Absolutely delicious! We needed a new go to place so we have this one a try. Placed an order for delivery and it got here super quick. The boneless spareribs were quite lean and cooked perfectly. My husband had the chicken and broccoli combination with a shirmp roll. He enjoyed the spring roll texture and the mushrooms inside. I has bean curd Szechuan style and was happy to pay a little extra to have brown rice with it. The little container of pineapple that was included was a nice little surprise. I really don't understand the bad reviews of this place. I came away perfectly satisfied from my lunch here. As far as General Tso's chicken goes, this place did a good job, all outside appearances of the restaurant to the contrary. Nice and crispy chicken, and well coated with sauce. The Szechuan beef was pretty good too. They also made a mistake on one of the other lunch orders, and they gave me a free spring roll, which was very nice of them, given that the meal itself was just $6.12. Yes the food is cheaper than other Chinese Food places in Wallingford and generally they are very nice. That is if your going to the actual store to pickup your order. However, if you're having it delivered be prepared to run out to their car to grab your food. The last two occasions I ordered from them I had to go out to their car and get my order. The first time I was outside already, so it really wasn't a big deal but the other time I was inside and was called to come outside. I live in a house, in a decent area, it was warm outside and it's not like there were drug dealers hanging out on the corner or it was dark out ... so I don't know what the issue was. Just wanted to let ya'll know what's up, just in case you order food to be delivered and your not completely dressed or something, have a robe ready to grab just in case. There are so many Chinese take-away places in Wallingford. China King is my favorite. The food is so good and the prices are far-lower than any of the others. I am vegetarian and they'll make most anything I want with tofu substituted for the meat or chicken. Their hot & sour soup is amazing. We ordered delivery because we are disabled. The order taker was friendly and said delivery would be 45 minutes and the order arrived on time. We brought it upstairs to the apartment and found hot egg rolls. We were starved and demolished them immediately. Excellent egg rolls. Our order also consisted of a pu-pu platter, chicken lo mein and beef and broccoli. All food was very warm. The pu-pu platter was very good although neither of us cared for the crab Rangoon. The dough taste was excellent, the crab filling good, but it was too big as a combination. We liked the chicken wings-plenty of meat and the pork rib was both tasty and tender. And, two more egg rolls. In the future we might just order egg rolls and chicken wings...ohhhhh..I want the pork ribs too..ok..we'll figure something out. My beef and broccoli will be eaten later, however, a bite taken says that the beef is tender and the broccoli cooked so that it is slightly crunchy. There is zero evidence of our dish being loaded with MSG. The chicken lo mein has tender chicken. Only criticism of that dish might be a little less garlic. We have recently moved to this area and need to find new sources of our favorite foods. China King has earned our business going forward. They made food the way we like it, so we will continue getting delivery and will try other dishes. read more

We called and checked in and they assured us it was on the way (an hour and a half in). At the two hour mark we called again and they said again driver was on the road. Since I live near this place, I get to "sample" this place "by air" everyday. The food is good. The service is prompt, unlike other Chinese places around. Can't say the staff strikes me as above average. Once walked in there to a roaring mother-daughter screaming match behind the counter. The appearance of the place is pretty bad. Dingy, and windows could use washing. Looking over the counter into the kitchen reveals an old, kind of run down place. It's in an old, dilapidated building. Wouldn't enjoy eating there. But maybe that's how they keep prices reasonable. Go there once in a while due to convenience but can do as well elsewhere. read more

I always get delivery from them and its good. I think the food is good quality for the price. I ordered from a difference place because they were closed once and I was disappointed because they threw the chicken in the take out box plain with plain white rice on the side.
