So much flavor and creamy melted amul cheese. Gobi Manchurian w gravy was some of the best I've had anywhere here or in India. Couldn't get enough of the flavor and tender cauliflower that was not too fried. Dahi Puri outstanding too. My family didn't love the dosas as much. As someone who has gone to Honest locations for a long time, I've got to say it's gone so far downhill it's not worth the trip anymore. We went to the location on Oak Tree Rd next to Patel Bros. Ambiance was nice though the plastic cutlery left a lot to be desired for (yes they went even cheaper on the knives to the point where even the waiter said you probably won't be able to use it, and he was right in that the knife could not cut the samosa in half). Service time and process was ok. They are a bit on the unobservant side when people are ready to order and need something but all in all, ok and not something to ding the rating. What is worth dinging the rating is the food and the cost thereof. We got 1 Bakhri pizza, 1 order samosa, 1 garlic naan, 1 paneer makhani, 1 lassi, 1 coke and 1 limca. $61 bill for the above. What's worse is the samosa did not have good flavor in the filling and was way overstuffed such that the crust to stuffing balance was off. The pizza was not good as they used what looked like some paste for the sauce rather than a real Indian style sauce. What the hell was that in the pizza? The Punjabi food was ok other than the balance of the items where 3-4x the sauce was provided to paneer provided, it was served in a tiny bowl so not much for the price, and meh on the flavor all for just under $20. Frankly, the charge for what they gave should not have been over $7-8 never mind $20! Also, who charges almost $8 for a garlic naan??? This isn't a fine dining place. If a small naan like that is almost $8, then their profit margin on it must be astronomical! All in all, save your money you'd overspend here and go to any of the tons of other options on the street. It looks a little bit old Rating: 6/10 Food: I have been to Honest atleast 20 times and they have maintained their taste for sure. The reason i go to Honest is for their Bhakri Pizza and North Indian subjis since i feel theirs is the closest you can get from back home. The taste here is pretty much the same you get in Ahmedabad. Below is what we ordered and the ratings. Bhakri Pizza: 9/10- It was crispy with proper amount of sauce and cheese. Dahi Puri: 7/10- As expected with good amount of chutneys and dahi. The only comment i would give is the puris were a little uneven in size. Chinese Bhel: 9/10. Tangy, crunchy, saucy with good amount of manchurian and paneer. It leaves you wanting for more Paneer Handi: 10/10. My oh my!! If i close my eyes, it takes me back to my favorite north indian restaurans in Ahmedabad. I've ordered from the Honest in Greenwich village and its always good. I've also visited the Honest in Clifton which was lovely. This one was such a disappointment. Service - 1/10. What is UP with these people just loitering around and not providing utensils, not being available to take orders and not knowing what is on the menu! Felt so uncomfortable having to repeat everything 6 times and being told half the tuff was unavailable. Food - We had the tawa pulav, tomato soup, chole, and masala dosa. All were off. Tawa pulav did not taste fresh, felt like the oil was stale. Chole was ok, not as good as other locations. Tomato soup was disgusting - felt like they dumped a cup of sugar and nothing else. The worst was the paneer 65, it was so hard. Couldn't even chew it. The owner is very rude as well. I walked in at 9:05 pm, they close at 10pm. Immediately he kept saying our kitchen closed soon, you have to hurry to place an order. We placed our order and he said that's it, can't order after this. My friends in NJ sang so many praises for this place, that we had to order when we visited. Note this review is for Sep 2021. We ordered pick up: Pav Bhaji - Not exactly authentic and famous Mumbai Pav bhaji, but still amazing. This was the closest and the best I have had in the US. Comes with 2 pav, we ordered extra. Dried Manchurian - Comes with 7 or 8 balls and has the right amount of spice. Again not the same, but great. I loved it. Fried Rice - Simple yet delicious. Not so spicy but flavorful. Bahubali Sandwich - I am generally not a fan of sandwiches, but this one blew my mind. Loved loved it (it had quite some Amul cheese on it). So living in the Bay Area we've heard a lot about this place. People drive all the way to LA to try this out on the way and since we were in Edison, we thought might as well. We went in with a mission to try out just the pav bhaji and we were in and out of that place in less that 15minutes. Though I must say, the pav bhaji was worth it! Perfectly balanced spices and not too buttery. Bombay style bhaji is usually more mashed and has a smoother consistency compared to the one in north india and is usually heavier on the tomato side. This restaurant is pure vegetarian. This trip we ordered their signature pav bhaji along with butter roti , dal makhani, Chana masala and paneer butter masala. Pav bhaji was good, not too greasy or overly spicy. I think the balance was good. Nothing exemplary. Paneer butter masala, dal makhani were also not bad and Chana masala was good. For butter roti I was not expecting tandoori roti, rather the tava roti. But it was fresh soft and we enjoyed it piping hot with the side dishes. Service was good. This place also sells fresh paan/beeda-betel leaf stuffed with candied fruits and some other flavors. It was very good and we packed some to go! This is a better Honest restaurant than the one in Parsipanny or Jersey city. However there are so many other amazing options in Edison that I get takeouts from here less than I would want to. Definitely order by calling the restaurant or stopping by because if you place it online the prices are $2.00 more per item. I have tried their cheese butter masala, paneer tikka masala, paneer butter masala, paneer kadai as well. Most of the brown curries have a prominent cardamom taste which I am not a big fan of. When Honest opened its door we were one of the first to visit and really enjoyed their pav bhaji, dosa, chole bhature, grilled sandwich, noodles and masala soda. I've been here a couple times, but the most recent time I came here, I ordered their regular Pav Bhaji + Veg Noodle with Manchurian. The pav bhaji which we asked for medium spicy was actually very spicy. But, my mom and I enjoyed the spice. The veg noodle was very tasty as well, but there were only 3 pieces of manchurian in our dish - they were cut in half to make it look like there were more. This part was disapproving. My mom and I waited about 10 minutes before the cashier noticed we wanted to pay so that was also really annoying. However, the food is good, and if you're on the other side of Oak Tree Road where Chowpatty and Bombay Talk is located, then I would definitely suggest you don't go out of your way to come to Honest. Must go here for their 5-Star pau bhaji. I personally like the masala pau with bhaji because you can easily eat that with a fork and each bite tastes great with the perfect amount of soft doughy pau and spicy savory bhaji. The honest sp pau bhaji is great too and what my parents prefer (sp stands for special I guess? it maybe worth the extra dollar but not 100 sure because it might just provide extra butter... also take out pau bhaji once had cashews and raisins not sure what that was about. Just stick to masala pau with bhaji and you'll be good. We've also tried the dry gobi manchurian here. It's not as good as the dry manchurian!! Yes there's a difference between those two dishes and yes I've made the mistake of ordering the wrong one (long story rooted here in Indian patriarchy). The gobi manchurian is fried pieces of cauliflower whereas the manchurian are balls of fried dumpling mixture. The Chinese bhel is okay. It's crispy fried noodles with an indo-Chinese flavor. We got it with cheese which didn't add much to the dish. The menu describes these indo-Chinese dishes well and the waiters usually are helpful but busy. Don't feel bad flagging them down. Can get pretty busy here so expect to wait around lunch/dinner time. Also pro Edison tip-- for lunch, buffet places may provide better value however you'll be hard pressed to find better pau bhaji anywhere. Prefer the Hicksville location's chili paneer. Had a chance to go to Edison NJ yesterday and you know I had to go eat some delicious, mouthwatering Indian food. Went to this place for brunch which did not disappoint! . Walking in, the first thing they do is to check your temperature at the door to be safe against covid and ensure a strict mask policy. . Once you're seated, you get to chose from an extensive 4 page menu filled with dishes stretching from the south to the north of India. We decided to have appetizers as a snack and ended up ordering a mix of different things. My personal favorite was the Bahubali Grilled Sandwich which might not be on the menu, but had a mention on the poster at the door! Super delicious, and topped with ton of cheese for extra added love. People have option to choose from punjabi, South Indian, Indian Chinese, snacks, etc. Honest special is different type Pav bhaji and pulav. We have try most of the dishes, I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with food. Pav bhaji, Hakka noodles and panner tikka is must try dish. Punjabi sabji is amazing too and Dosa too. My husband like their milk shakes, he has try kaju shake which was good too. Beside delicious food, their customer service is top notch. They are very quick for servings, taking order, and friendly etc. honest usually very very busy over the weekend, you might have to wait for 1/2 to 1 hour but its totally worth it. It's really great to see one of my favorite joints from Ahmedabad in Edison. I came during opening week with my mom and we both agreed it tasted just like the branch in India. We ordered the regular pulav and pav bhaji with the perfect amount of spice. The special pulav contains nuts and raisins which we will try next time. I can't wait to go back and try the Indian style pizzas. We also ordered the sugar cane juice but it didn't have enough "lemon ginger masala" in it as I would have preferred. We frequently visit Honest restaurants in Bensalem PA, East Windsor, and Edison. In Edison Honest restaurant I found that they have changed the price menu and all the prices on that menu are ridiculously high. Our two people orders of Soups, chat, two Nans, one Veggie, and two Lassi cost us $76.00. I have checked other places the same menu prices are very reasonable. For example, Garlic Nan's price is $7.79 whereas in other places the same Garlic Nan price is not more than $5.00. Edison Honest they are openly robbing you. Service is horrible.
