There are few restaurants that gives a great feeling even though the ambience is average and this one fit that well. The name, picture of JJ and overall decor brings some native feeling and DeJa'Vu moments. The restaurant has its private parking as you enter backside of another store/restaurant along Oak tree road. The interior is okay with lot of tables to dine in and then you can see they do have outdoor dining during warmer months. Staff is friendly and welcoming. As I got here was handed over the menu and seated. The have a robust menu with lot of platter options and ala carte. The Vegetarian options are definitely comparable to the non-Veg options. I ordered the Goat, Parotta and Kushka combo platter. The Seeraga samba Kuska tasted amazing and so is the parotta. The Sukka came with platter was amazing too. Definitely order their Biryani and their Appetizers you will not be disappointed. I also ordered pickup for Veg Kothu parotta and vada. Both of them tasted amazing as well.

Sambar . But tastes like daal

This review is for the place ammas kitchen : Newark branch I don't know why it does not exist on yelp .If should and the other ammas kitchen franchise must consider closing this one down First of all , This place should not be called ammas kitchen . I dont think this name suits the food or service This place is an abomination in the name of food . One of the worst places I have been to. We ordered fish meal , gobi65, baby corn 65, onion Rava dosa , idle sambar , Vada sambar and filter coffee It took 1 hour for us to get the food after ordering . We were almost about to leave the place .They didn't have that much of a rush . Maybe they were understaffed Only good thing here was the menu which is enticing enough for you to order . All Food is inedible Gobi 65 was just fried gobi. I have had better gobi 65 with some flavor elsewhere Baby corn 65 had too much flavor to the extent that I could not taste the baby corn itself. Tasted like bhindi fry. Ridiculous Fish meal was very bad . Fish masala had to much salt . Felt like they gave me stale preserved fish from months ago . But at that point the damage was already done . I had already eaten 4-5 bites . And I was in a super hunger state . So even if I get food poisoning I thought I might as well eat at this point Sambar did not seem to have sambar masala . It was just daal . So basically dosa was bad Idli sambar and Vada sambar looked like dal.Having tasted the sambar I could not get myself to taste that The menu has selective good pics and I wonder if they even serve that here They missed giving the filter coffee till the end and they had the audacity to ask us if they missed serving anything At the end I felt like i was already scammed so I went to check if they are billing me correctly . Because at this point the food was not good and that's the only thing I had control over after being hungry for 2 hours . To my suprise that person missed adding 2 items to the bill . Given the bad level of food quality I kind of felt bad correcting it . When I went back to wash my hands I saw that they use canola oil . I don't think that's healthy .i don't think they use any flavors too . I think they just use canola oil and salt and sell old food for days . My honest advice if you didn't get it till now : Never go here . Even if your life depends on it

I have ordered Take Away from here a couple of times and also tried their Banana Leaf meal recently, and overall the experience was pretty good. Most of items we tried tasted good. Service was not bad and definitely a good option for South Indian Cuisine in Edison. Decor and atmosphere is just average.

Always gotten take out from here and my go-to order is the fish fry (king fish/pomfret). The fish is lightly coated with spices and fried, reminiscent of something I had growing up. Pairs great with steaming white rice. I haven't tried their other fare but it's very pocket friendly and I know some people who swear by it.

Love the food! Biryani is very much Karnataka style rather than andhra style. Chicken curry is awesome and with bones. Loved the medu vada and idly. Not much of an ambiance but very good food!

Visited the new ammas kitchen restaurant and we just loved it .. 5/5 overall :) Absolutely awesome food. Cheap and best . We love the breakfast combo and all items here ... Especially the chutneys . The red/ peanut chutneys were out of the world. Vada. Could be better . It was kinda hard .. chapati kuruma was good . Best was the breakfast combo and Ghee dosa .. . Amazing and fast service ... parking is a little smalll as compared with other restaurants . Overall a very good experience..

I started this review even before I tasted the food here. Seems strange right? Actually .....no for a change. We ordered idli (rice cakes) and medu vada. Medu comes from a Kannda word meaning soft and vada meaning fritters. The vada is made of black lentils. Spices and curry leaves. The 2 dishes are served with chutney and sambar. These south Indian delicacies are hard to find even in India for a $1 each. The have other dishes like the paratha for q dollar too. I'm not sure how the restaurant is making money and what the background is here other than I seeing the picture of Amma..Honorable late CM of TN...Jayalalitha, who has helped and served the people in state she served. I wouldn't be surprised if her foundation is subsidizing the process here. Don't worry, I did taste the food and they were good. Just make sure you eat it hot or get creative by converting the medu vada to dahi vada if you take it to go. Note that idli was voted the most healthiest breakfast.

Concept of Amma's Kitchen came from Tamilnadu, India when Jayalalita start this concept to provide good food at cheap price (especially to cater poor ), That's why price in India is always very minimal.. Same we're continue in Edison, NJ.. As both me and my wife enjoy South Indian food, we thought to give it a try.. Overall, very good experience.. Food was amazing and very authentic.. Also portion size was more than enough.. I personally enjoyed Veg combo meal and it's must try.. They have outside seating but we sit inside as it was cold .. so something to try if there is a nice weather .. Highly Recommended!!

Pani Poori- 6 pcs - these were tasty though the chutney was more like syrup. The water used came out in a small bottle which was cool. Crispy Baby Corn- great indochinese appetizer, the baby corn is lightly battered and fried then tossed in a sauce Soya Masala Curry- this was a flop. The tomato onion based curry lacked salt and spice and the actual soya pieces were too soft and mushy in texture. Wish these were a bit more dense as experienced in other restaurants. Roomali Roti- drown in ghee and it must have sat over a gas flame because it tasted of bad chemicals. Basically like eating the ghee-soaked cotton swabs from the candles at the local temple. Kathiyawadi Thali- the wife's dish- she enjoyed two if the items but this was not a great experience either. I was disappointed in the vast difference in quality between two visits. I went here for lunch with some of our friends and family and after having had a heavy home breakfast and hence didn't have an appetite for the Thali meals. That's the same reason I didn't click a lot of pics like I would usually do. The vegetable biryani, SPDP chaat and puris with aloo subzi came in no time from the time we ordered. As much as the food was tasty I found them bit salty and the subzi little oily - this coming from a salt lover who tends to add salt to anything he eats, you can trust me. Overall a good restaurant serving quality food and with ample parking space (weekend parking story could be little different).

The sarson Ka saag was outstanding -- earthy, well seasoned, and perfectly paired with makki di roti. The rajma chawal was comforting and homestyle, with soft beans and a rich gravy that tasted just like a classic North Indian meal. We also tried the tandoori chaap, which was flavorful, tender, and beautifully grilled with a smoky aroma. The chana bhatura was another highlight--spicy, hearty chana with fluffy, perfectly fried bhaturas that weren't greasy at all. Portions were generous and the overall experience felt very authentic. We had planned to try several items but ended up ordering only Sarson ka Saag - Makki ki Roti and Dahi Puri due to limited availability. The saag was flavorful, though the roti seemed to be a mix of besan and makki (cannot confirm this though). The Dahi Puri was okayish, but little bit too dry. Hence, won't recommend this dish. Many guests were turned away because of the inaccurate closing time listed online. I recommend calling ahead to confirm before visiting.

When the community migrated to Nagpur in 1877, their food followed -- spreading through the tradesfolk and mill workers who embraced its bold flavors. Today, Saoji is considered the signature cuisine of Nagpur: intensely spiced, unapologetically hot, and built around powerful, roasted masalas. Tonight we ate at Nagpuri Saoji in Voorhees (they also have a location in Iselin), and these two spots are reportedly the only places in the U.S. where you can experience this cuisine in its full, blazing glory. To Start We began with sabudana vada -- the classic Maharashtrian fritter made from tapioca pearls, mashed potatoes, peanuts, and spices. Served piping hot and impossibly crisp outside with a tender interior, they came with two chutneys and were absolutely sublime. Alongside that was goat sukka, a dry-style mutton preparation associated with the Mangalore and Udupi regions, with spice influences tracing back to Goa and even Arab and Turkish traders. Coriander, fennel, cumin, black peppercorns, and fenugreek give it depth and warmth. It was bold, savory, and incredibly flavorful. The Curries I ordered chicken kala masala curry, and it was deeply earthy, nutty, and robustly savory. "Kala" means "black" in Marathi -- referring both to the color and to the roasted spice blend itself. Cumin, coriander, cloves, cinnamon, stone flower, coconut, sesame seeds, and chillies are roasted and ground into a dark, complex masala that lingers beautifully on the palate. We also ordered Goat Handi, with tender meat in a velvety, aromatic gravy, and a Malwani goat curry, made with Malvani masala from the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra -- a spice blend that balances heat with coastal warmth and depth. Rice, plain naan, and indulgent Amul cheese naan rounded out the meal. Dessert We finished with Sitafal Rasmalai (custard apple-infused rasmalai) and Jamun Rabdi -- both creamy, fragrant, and perfect against the lingering spice. A Few Notes Like much traditional Asian cooking, the meat dishes are cooked on the bone -- so eat mindfully. And if you request "hot," they mean hot. This is not toned-down spice; this is the real deal. I was thrilled to try dishes from India that I've never made before. Saoji cuisine is bold, unapologetic, and absolutely delicious -- and I'll definitely be adding some of these flavors to my home repertoire. If you have the opportunity to try this cuisine -- do it.

I know it's popular for the saoji chicken but being a vegetarian I had to stick to their veggie options. I visited this place for dinner and they were out of a lot of things. The tarri tasted weird so it ruined the entire dish. Same tarri was present in the misaal too, so this dish was ruined too. Sol kadhi was average. The service was fast and the ambience is okay-ish. Honestly, would not recommend this place for their vegetarian options!
