    Shrimp biryani
    Caitlin L.

Last Saturday, my partner took me to this Indian takeout restaurant on our way to the Catskills. He saw online that this takeout spot was highly rated, so we just had to try it. We ordered a shrimp biryani--to which we very much enjoyed. My partner's only complaint was that there was not a lot of shrimp in the dish. My complaint is that the meal made me feel lethargic because it was quite oily. I enjoyed the yogurt sauce that came with the dish as it elevated the experience. Overall, I enjoyed this lunch. Note: Delhi Garden is a takeout spot. They do not have dine in seating, but you can find some seats at the nearby Festival Plaza.

People rave about this place for good reason! This is THEEE best place for indian food takeout. Note, this is TAKE-OUT ONLY! We got chicken tikka masala and butter chicken and pani puri. Everything you need is there for pani puri, ans the chicken curries were amazingggg; juicy and flavorful, this is THE indian takeout place. The parking lot is small but loops around so its not too hard to get in. The first two spots you see in the plaza is NOT for guets parking; there is one handicap spot and one spot for the delivery car. This place takes cash or credit, and the pick up area is in this little tent they set up, not actually inside the restaurant. In edison and looking for a place for curry? This is the place!

We always order Ubereats from this place and it's the best meal we've ever gotten from delivered takeout. All the meats are always super tender and all the curries are very flavoured and complex in taste. They also offer Chinese Hakka Indian food, which we were so excited to try. We had a grandma that used to make Hakka Indian Food and we miss that flavour. We tried the Hakka side of the menu with their Chili Chicken for the first time and it was so flavourful and the chicken was so tender, highly recommend! Saag Paneer at this place is must order - we always order this dish bc we love paneer. The goat in the goat curry masala was sooo soft. Sometimes goat can be gamey but theirs is not gamey at all, just full of flavour from the curry masala. The chicken shahi korma is our favourite - it's nutty, with a taste of coconut, a little sweet, creamy and flavourful. We always come back to this restaurant whenever we're trying to decide what to order from takeout, they've never disappointed us! And the best thing is that their prices are so reasonable and cheaper than the other Indian food options (probably bc they are takeout only).

This is becoming my go-to place for Indian food when I visit my parents in NJ. It's located off Rt. 27 in Edison. If you have trouble locating the restaurant, just look for the ugly green building. Kidding aside, its signage is actually quite vibrant and eye-catching. I've ordered Tikka Chicken Masala, Dhaba Chicken Curry, and Chicken 65. They are all excellent. However, for whatever reason, I cannot shake off the urge to get Chicken 65 every time I order from Delhi Garden. It's my go-to dish for sure. It's not cheap any more - now $17 instead of $13 just before the pandemic. But considering how many servings of rice get to go with the dish, it's still a good value especially comparing to other dishes. That said, the amount of rice that come with the dish is nowhere near enough. You're gonna buy or cook more rice yourself for sure. Service-wise, I can't say they are friendly. They are always busy, so their priority is to complete the transaction as quickly as possible. Speaking of speed, it does take 25-35 minutes to get the order ready; so lately I've been calling ahead. You'd be advised to do the same. One other thing, maybe it has to do with NJ's new ban on plastic bags, I didn't realize I've been paying 30 cents for the bag each time I do takeout. So just like grocery stores, bring your own bags!

They are an establish GOAT in the area for a reason. Their Indian dishes are great but my go to dish is their rendition of the NYC chicken platte with white sauce. It is the perfect dish in terms of taste, value, health, and balance. It has a heaping amount of flavorful chicken meat on a bed of rice and naan bread. None of the meat or rice is soaked in oils like how typical halal platters are which is amazing. On top of that, their white sauce is also wonderful. The consistency can get a a little thick but just give it a good stir and it becomes thin like magic. All in all, I've traveled far and wide, but I think this has the best halal cart chicken and rice rendition in NJ.

My cousin who lives one hour away from Edison in South Jersey contacted me to ask me when I could bring her some food from Delhi Garden. Apparently this spot is putting out good product. Need I say more?

Was looking for local favorites when passing through Edison and wow I am so glad I came here. BEST chicken tikka masala and biryani I've had although my only comparisons are a few popular Indian restaurants in NYC. The tikka masala curry was insane, so rich and heavenly flavor... I'm still thinking about it right now. The chicken was also way more tender than the ones I've had in chicken tikka masala at other restaurants. For spicy levels I got hot, but it was not that spicy IMO. We also got the paneer kulcha (stuffed cottage cheese bread) and wow dipped in the curry sauce they provided it blew my mind too. The cut mirchi bhajias (chilli pakoras) was insanely spicy though and overall we weren't a fan even aside from the spiciness. They are takeout only right now and you should expect to wait 25-30 min for your food if you order on the spot, so I'd recommend ordering ahead of time over the phone or online! There are also 10-12 ish parking spots around the restaurant and we had no problem finding parking on a Friday around noon.

We're still looking around for our go-to Indian restaurant in the area as our kids love saag/palak paneer and we used to go at least once a month where we moved from. But we finally made it! We came here on a Monday that also fell on a holiday so they had a steady amount of customers. We were the only non-Indian customers, which appears to be normal. They're located in a small strip along with 2 or 3 other businesses. Shared parking is behind the building so most people entered through the back door. It was about half full when we got there so I can see it filling up fast during crowded times. Walk through because no one is at the back but there is a small clothing rack to hang coats; the counter is at the front by the front door. We made ourselves known and were promptly seated. They serve vegetarian food and many are Swaminarayan-friendly (allium-free, which appears to be their default mode), certain can be made Jain as well! They do use alliums but overall, they seem to be able to make most of the dishes without alliums. We ordered the following, Swaminarayan-style and mild because one of my kids can do but mild food: DAHI PURI: I usually get pani puri but decided to try it out since it's been a while since I had this. It came out first as the appetizer, was a thing of beauty, and there are A LOT of flavors in there. The sweet-leaning yogurt, sev with its textural differences, the freshness of the cilantro, the spiced potatoes, the tart pomegranate seeds... My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. PALAK PANEER: This was ordered for my kids. Green gravy with tender paneer. They liked it! The curry got a little too spicy but it didn't hit them until later. My kid with the food allergies ate all the paneer when the gravy grew too spicy for him. MALAI KOFTA: This is different from the malai kofta I've had before but not in a bad way. I definitely think they use cashew "cream" in this. It's lightly sweet in a way that reminds me of cashews. The kofta are soft and I'm pretty sure are paneer based. This is probably the most mild curry we ordered, both in terms of spice and spices. This was my pick because I usually can't order malai kofta at Indian restaurants so I was pleased I could hear. MATAR METHI MALAI: I love how Indian curries are so straightforward when it comes to names. I'm not sure what to expect with this but my husband didn't know what to get so I nudged him towards this. He wanted MATAR PANEER but it's not on the menu. This is essentially fenugreek pea curry in a milky gravy. It has very interesting spices and flavor. A little more bland than the others, yet not at the same time. Must be that fenugreek! For some odd reason, it reminded me of coconut chutney I've had before. We also got ROTI for one of my kids who prefers bread over rice. All curries come with white basmati. For drinks, we got MANGO LASSI, SPRITE, and CHAAS (buttermilk). The buttermilk was different! Much more spiced than I expected. I also swear at one point I tasted a raw onion bit but it only happened once so who knows if it was mistaken blended in or it was all in my head. I do remember it was STRONG though. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of choices we had. Our bill totaled to around $90 (curries are around $20, Dahi puri was $12) and we brought home some leftovers. They seem to be family run and are fairly nice and helpful. We would likely go back again to try more things, but the palak paneer isn't completely up our kids' alley to become their favorite. If you have food allergies, let them know. My youngest has multiple food allergies including to nuts and wheat. Most of their curries contains nuts EXCEPT for the palak paneer and their bhindi (okra) dish. Luckily for my kid. Despite how nuts are a common ingredient in the kitchen, my kid was completely fine during and after eating. Note: their menu says they charge gratuity for parties of 4 people or more. My husband says he didn't see it on the bill when it was time to pay. Not sure if that statement is now outdated or it only counts if there are 4+ ADULTS.
