Wanted to try something different...I feel like unfortunately we end up eating the same food from the same places just on different days of the week haha I have seen Ruby's several times on my way to Nicks Meat Depot so I decided we should give it a try. I havent had Indian cuisine in a very long time...Last time I had butter chicken I think it was from Curry In A Hurry in NYC or perhaps a frozen meal from Trader Joes...but...getting back to the review...Ruby's is a cute restaurant on the corner of Amboy Ave. The decor envelopes you in Indian culture from the decorations on the wall to the tables/table settings, and music. The menu is big with everything including meat and vegetarian options. We got Samosas (they are huge), the Tava Stuffed Chicken Paratha, Butter Chicken w/ basmati rice, Garlic Naan, Aam Panna (mango water), Mango Lassi, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. Everything was super delicious. Such a feel good comfort meal. The food was spicy but not uncomfortably so. The butter chicken was so creamy and the sauce was perfect for dipping my naan into. Service was good as well. We were the only ones in the restaurant as it was a kind of in between time around 4:30 pm on Sunday...the food came out in a very reasonable time and our waitress was hospitable and very pleasant. We def will be back to try other items from the menu for sure!

If you're in Brunswick side of New Jersey state, you must visit this utterly delicious restaurant called "Ruby ke Kitchen se". Chef Ruby is there to make sure you'll enjoy every bite of delicacies she's going to serve and you'll end up licking your fingers. The hunger satisfaction is one hundred percent. Ruby is very active, a food enthusiast and run so many chores in parallel. She hosts cooking classes and meditation center. She is orginally from Madhya Pradesh state and now that's the biggest reason for such amazingly delicious food. Hum Madhya Pradesh walo ki baat hi alag hai khane ko lekar. Swadisht aur zabardast. Coming to food part, after checking out the menu, we were not able to control our emotions and hunger. We started with Kachori and it just wow. Well cooked and served hot. For the main course we ordered, Makke ki Roti and Sarso da saag, and I can tell you this was the best. In the past few years I had this delightful taste. Incomparable to any place in the USA so far. We ordered Dhaba dal, besan gatte and chapati. This is usually the Rajasthani cuisine that one must try and believe me you'll end up loving this dish. Specially Dhaba dal was flavorsome. Now coming to the worthiest meal for the night - "DAL BAATI", for us Madhya Pradesh people this particular food preparation is an emotion. It has to be prepared in the way it is meant to be and there is no compromise. I was completely surprised and was happiest to the core when it was served. That aroma was next level and there was an instant foodgasm haha. A must must try food item on the menu. Again, I would like to thank Ruby and her entire staff for hosting us and serving the excellent food. Can't wait to visit again this beautiful Rajasthani ambience and try out rest of the items on the menu. Keep up the fantastic work and keep serving us more. Cheers, Amey

    Veg Pakora

Happened to come across this super cozy spot while in town for a convention. Hit all the right buttons for our Indian cuisine craving that day. But the highlight was definitely the veg pakora. Not only is it a great starter but it lasted us the whole meal and complemented everything else we were eating. The butter chicken was also fantastic and was big enough for 2 (which we almost didn't ask about at the time of ordering, and would've been a big leftover problem)! With the side of rice, garlic naan & pickled onions, it was the perfect serving size... and plenty of "bonus" sauce left for the pakora. Service was a little on the slower side but I feel like it's a tight ship here and everyone was so nice that it wasn't a deal breaker at all. Not sure what it would be like if it was a peak meal time but our visit was solid and highly recommend a try.

Based on their unique menu, I really wanted to try the food however didn't have much time so decided a takeout might be better, one thing I didn't realized is they are way out from oak tree road, the Indian diaspora of restaurants and stores. It took me a good 15 mins on a rainy Friday, thankfully they had kept the food ready. I wanted to try rajasthani food : gatte ki subji, dal baati and rogan josh mutton (Kashmir though) The baati was a bit soft than I expected and lacked a bit of ghee, but dal was tasty though greasy, gatte ki sabji was amazing and so was the mutton/goat though it was a bit over cooked as the meat disintegrated a bit? Overall good taste, not typical Indian but some good dishes to try, a bit greasy and expensive. With taxes my bill was 80$ plus for a takeout! They have a beautiful interior and also cooking classes probably next time!

Tandoori chicken delicious and paneer tikka was not the usual tikka flavor and need to be warmer

Ruby's is a beautiful restaurant with festive and rustic touches. Our party loved all the the entire ambiance down to the traditional steel dishes, cups, and bowls. We ordered a number of dishes, all to share. The tandoori chicken was spicy and delicious. I missed the sizzling platter that this is usually served in. We also ordered the paneer tikka and I liked the unique flavor, like an achar or pickle, but it missed the mark. It was room temperature and not nice and soft. Other dishes we tried were the chicken kharahi, methi mutter, dhabbey dal, roti, Lacha pharata, and naan. The standouts here was the dal, smooth with simple flavors, and the chicken which had a beautiful color and tasty curry cooked with onions and peppers. It should've had less oil though. The cream in the mutter methi really drowned out the flavor. The breads were good but would've liked them to be warmer. Gulab jamun for dessert was huge, delicious and served nice and hot. The service got the job done but with some hiccups along the way. I think we had a new waiter so might be understandable. Overall, Ruby had good food in a beautiful restaurant but if we went back we'd try some different things.

    Gulab Jamun ( Dessert Day 1 )

Exceeded all expectations and easily one of the best Indian restaurants anywhere! This is what home and family cooking in India tastes like - balanced on spice, fresh ingredients and delicious. The Chef has a process of making everything from first principles so please expect a slightly longer wait time ( but the food is well worth the wait ). There are items on the menu that I have not had since the 1980s - especially the Dal Bhaati, and the Gatte ki Sabji. Super complex dishes that I never thought I would eat at a restaurant in North America. The Chef's special Nani ke Aloo ( potatoes e la grandma) was simple and fantastic. The Gulab Jamun was made right there and I could tell it was made just for us and on that day. The breads we had were all 100% wheat. This Restaurant is a passion project and the owners/staff have made sincere efforts to share the diversity of Indian cuisine. Due to the Chef's style, all portions are Huge. I was floored by the Chef's openness and humility to share her philosophy and process. The place is BYOB and there is a liquor store nearby. Prices are slightly higher but the larger portions are well worth the price and the ingredients are far superior.

Nagpuri Saoji - Saoji Chicken curry

    Nagpuri Saoji

    (32 reviews)

Saoji is a fiery, deeply spiced, mostly non-vegetarian cuisine said to have originated with the…read moreHalba Koshti weaver community of Madhya Pradesh. When the community migrated to Nagpur in 1877, their food followed -- spreading through the tradesfolk and mill workers who embraced its bold flavors. Today, Saoji is considered the signature cuisine of Nagpur: intensely spiced, unapologetically hot, and built around powerful, roasted masalas. Tonight we ate at Nagpuri Saoji in Voorhees (they also have a location in Iselin), and these two spots are reportedly the only places in the U.S. where you can experience this cuisine in its full, blazing glory. To Start We began with sabudana vada -- the classic Maharashtrian fritter made from tapioca pearls, mashed potatoes, peanuts, and spices. Served piping hot and impossibly crisp outside with a tender interior, they came with two chutneys and were absolutely sublime. Alongside that was goat sukka, a dry-style mutton preparation associated with the Mangalore and Udupi regions, with spice influences tracing back to Goa and even Arab and Turkish traders. Coriander, fennel, cumin, black peppercorns, and fenugreek give it depth and warmth. It was bold, savory, and incredibly flavorful. The Curries I ordered chicken kala masala curry, and it was deeply earthy, nutty, and robustly savory. "Kala" means "black" in Marathi -- referring both to the color and to the roasted spice blend itself. Cumin, coriander, cloves, cinnamon, stone flower, coconut, sesame seeds, and chillies are roasted and ground into a dark, complex masala that lingers beautifully on the palate. We also ordered Goat Handi, with tender meat in a velvety, aromatic gravy, and a Malwani goat curry, made with Malvani masala from the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra -- a spice blend that balances heat with coastal warmth and depth. Rice, plain naan, and indulgent Amul cheese naan rounded out the meal. Dessert We finished with Sitafal Rasmalai (custard apple-infused rasmalai) and Jamun Rabdi -- both creamy, fragrant, and perfect against the lingering spice. A Few Notes Like much traditional Asian cooking, the meat dishes are cooked on the bone -- so eat mindfully. And if you request "hot," they mean hot. This is not toned-down spice; this is the real deal. I was thrilled to try dishes from India that I've never made before. Saoji cuisine is bold, unapologetic, and absolutely delicious -- and I'll definitely be adding some of these flavors to my home repertoire. If you have the opportunity to try this cuisine -- do it.

I know it's popular for the saoji chicken but being a vegetarian I had to stick to their veggie options. I visited this place for dinner and they were out of a lot of things. I got the shegaon kachori, Misaal Pav, Tarri Poha and Sol kadhi. Shegaon kachori was the best option amongst the lot. It was super crispy and the filling was nice as well. Tarri Poha was a let down. The tarri tasted weird so it ruined the entire dish. Same tarri was present in the misaal too, so this dish was ruined too. Sol kadhi was average. The service was fast and the ambience is okay-ish. Honestly, would not recommend this place for their vegetarian options!

    Atithya Kathiyawadi - PUNJABI THALI

PROs- no wait time and location and decent food CONs-…read moreservice , some dishes tasted average I was happy to see a Kathiawadi restaurant near Edison and wanted to taste it . We always go to Sayreville restaurant but that one has so much of wait time . There was no wait time in athithya and location wise it was good. Lots of space inside to sit and dine . Ambience looked below average . Thali was about 22$ , and price wise it was ok.. service was bad. They keep the thali and go inside kitchen and don't even ask you what you want . In Sayreville restaurant they keep going around asking customers what they need and keep filling the food . We ordered a Kathiawadi thali and Punjabi thali . More than half items were common in both thalis . They had dhokla and few other Gujarati items in Punjabi thali !!! I don't know the names of the dishes but some were very oily and no salt/spice in them . Some were really good . Punjabi dhal was extra ordinary . Gujarati dhal rice was superb . Paneer items were ok . Samosa / sweet were good . Overall we had an average experience.. 3 stars

First unlimited thali experience and we had alot of fun dining here trying all the different sides…read more This restaurant is vegetarian so no meat option available. We got the Kathiyawadi and the Gujarati thali. You get complimentary sides that had pickled cabbage, peppers and red onions. They also had 3 sauces - I'm not sure what they are but one tasted like ginger candy, one mango chutney, and the last one was a savory spice dip. You start your thali with a butter milk, which I am not a big fan of. It tasted like watered down savory milk. If you're not familiar with Indian food and is just here to try the different taste, I would recommend picking between the Kathiyawadi and Gujarati thali for one, and then get the Punjabi thai. The Kathiyawadi and Gujarati tasted very similar with only 4 of the dishes being different. Ultimately they were all just different ways of preparing eggplant, chick peas, and tomatoes. The Punjabi thali might taste a bit different than the two. Overall I was a bit disappointed by the lack of variety with the vegetable and taste even though this was a vegetarian place. I think I'm also not used to Indian food and the spice so it is not for me. The staff were super friendly and patient explaining the dishes. If you like Indian this is a place not to miss!!
