While the lamb chops were good the good overall has gone downhill. The lamb chops were not $40 good. The waiter made several mistakes and the cook had a hard time keeping up in an empty restaurant. Got a kick out of the paper plates for certain items and plastic cups. They also have real plates and utensils. I'm not sure what the logic is. There's a lot to fix here. I feel it is important to preface this review by saying that I love the food and service at this restaurant. I have been going to India Palace since it first opened and in general all my dine in experiences have been great. The food is absolutely fantastic and the service is usually good. Sadly, my most recent experience ran contrary to all my previous ones. A few days ago, I arrived at India Palace late at night with a friend. As soon as I entered I saw two gigantic parties, about 15-20 men at two separate sections of the restaurant. They were loud and rowdy. I've hung out in enough bars to know that even with rowdiness, you can still have a good time. The problem was, the longer we were there, the party got louder and more profane. I could only make out about half of what they said, but what I could understand was absolutely repulsive and it clearly bothered other tables. The two waiters who were taking care of all the tables were overwhelmed, and it was clear they were not comfortable with the behavior of these parties. They did their best to keep them happy, but it was a very uncomfortable situation overall. When my friend went to the restroom, a group of these guys were hanging out outside the rest room and made it a point not to get out of her way, making it extremely uncomfortable for her when she tried to get past them. The staff was very apologetic to us, and the even made sure to give us a discount on our bill to make up for the trouble. I do not blame them at all. They were in an impossible situation. My recommendation is this: you should absolutely visit this restaurant, but if you go in and see a small army of patrons being loud and rowdy, turn around and come back another time. read more

Had an incredible dinner for the entirety of our stay. As we entered, we were greeted and permitted to sit wherever we'd like, albeit having a multitude of people, and we weren't sitting long before we were greeted personally and served by the chef herself. Very Bad food. Okay-ish customer service. The gravy was watery and the serving bowls were half filled. After we were served the appetizers, it took them over 40 mins to get us the main course. Malai kofta ($11.99) came with 3 small cheese balls. Unbelievable. Paneer Makhni was so salty, it almost gave us a high blood pressure. When we complained about salt and quantity, the kitchen staff bluntly refused to acknowledge it. Also, the manager referred to her staff as "kids" and said they didn't know much. They had a bigger party of more than 10 people at that time, hence they gave them preference over us since we were only 5 people. I think they are way too full of themselves and think people would go there no matter what, but they probably don't know that customers are not stupid. The only person who was sensible was a guy who tried to understand our frustration but since their lady manager was so unprofessional, there was not much he could do as a waiter. Never going back and would not recommend this place to anyone who likes indian food, and especially not to anyone who is looking to try Indian cuisine since you're only going to be fooled. I usually like this place, but the other night I ordered food and the Gulab Jamun was completely spoiled! It was mildly fermented, the dough balls were hard and tasted awful. I'm guessing this was a one off, but I wanted to post this review so they are aware and try to be more vigilant about the quality of their food. India Palace has been through so many new owners in the past few years. This last time I went was the last straw. This place used to have great food, customer service and the ambience was very nice. This time, it was painted blue - which is a very strange color to use, paint chipped all over, and even have tiles on the wall that looks like the bathroom. We walked in and the restaurant was completely empty which wasn't a good sign (Thursday for dinner). The booth we were at had the seats so far from the table I had to sit at the edge to even be close enough to eat. The waiter took very long to even come to our table at first, remember that we're the only people in the restaurant. Never checked on us after we received our food. Food was sub par - there was nothing that will entice us to come back. Hope they change a lot up because this placed used to be "the spot". read more

Picked up from New India Palace for the first time tonight, due to the fact that the place my mother and I get from was closed. I would like to preface this by saying we ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, and order of naan bread and vegetable samosa's. Both the tikka masala and chicken korma were very good. The issues stem from elsewhere. My mother placed the order for takeout: it took almost an hour for the food to be ready. I understand if the food is homemade it can take time, but the restaurant was empty and I see no excuse for a takeout order to take such a long time. We ordered two chicken entree's, and they only gave us one portion of rice. My mother went back in to ask for another, and the guy tells her that we received the correct portion, but he would "take care of us this time". This may have been a mistake, but regardless, two entrees call for two portions of rice. Lastly, my mother was told the reason the food was taking so long was because they were making the vegetable samosas. We get home, the somosa's are burnt to a crisp and hard as rocks. All three go into the garbage. If I could I would give this place another half star because the two chicken dishes were quite good. When I went to pick up the food, there was a drunk guy stumbling around near the register, which was sort of unexpected. Chicken vindaloo was excellent, super flavorful. If things were just based on taste, it'd be 5/5. came with one container of rice for these two meals -- not really enough, at least for two young guys. I wait about 25 before headed to pick up my grub. Walk in and it's quite a lovely restaurant. There were a few large tables of people eating and I was the only non Asian in the joint, which to me is a good sign. So my food isn't ready and I wait...at this point the young man tells me that they were out of samosas ::cue tears here:: Given that I had paid for them already, and he didn't offer any alternatives, I questioned him about him and told me I can either contact Yelp for a refund...or I'd get extra garlic naan. It would have been nice for him to tell me that first before questioning him but imma let that one slide. Ok, extra naan it is. After what ends up being a total of 45 minutes I get my food and head home. Wow, now my car smells like garlic but like McD's says, I'm lovin it. Arrive at home and all of a sudden my boyfriend says he's hungry and wanders over to my booty (the food people). Divvy everything up, give him his own naan and we eat. Mmmm, so good. I left the chicken tikka as mild, but it still had some heat. Not awful enough that I couldn't enjoy it, but a few beads of sweat did appear on my forehead. If you're a small cat like I am when it comes to spice, then keep it mild. Vegetable biryani was so good, my only issue is that I needed some salt on it, but that's my own preference. They had booth and table seating. 2nd impression is that it had to be good if all the guests are Indian (close to getting home cooked meals). 3rd the tables were presentable and clean presentation of food was nice. They offered mild, medium and hot spice which I thought was good for people wanting to learn to eat Indian food. We ordered chicken korma and chicken paneer( chicken in the Spanish style sauce) both with medium spice. The Korma was not the best I ever had it was missing something but def good the spinach meal was def delicious. The rice was fluffy and delicious. The naan was delicious. Overall we cleaned our plates of the food. It wasn't overly oily. We will def go back I would love to try their buffet so I will have to find out when they offer it. It was byob for beer/wine. Great food. Feels very homemade which I think it was - real people cooking real food. I saw aunties in the kitchen who I believe were cooking the food - that's how you know it'll be a good meal. The place seems family run. The check-in offer worked, although I had to ask again for the lassi - I think he forgot to put in the lassi order at first. One thing we didn't like is at the beginning you get a free papad basket and the waiter came around and asked if we wanted another basket later on - and assuming it was free we said yes, but on the bill they charged us for 1 order of papad. If we had known that we would've said no when he asked us if we wanted more papad. That was a bit sneaky of them. Also even though there is the free lassi check-in offer the original bill included the lassi cost. I had redeemed the check in offer in front of the waiter at the start of ordering. Came here last night and I'm glad we did because I didn't know this place existed on a road I frequent. We had pizza naan and tandoori corn for apps, and lasoni paneer with naan for main. Pretty good amount for apps! The pizza naan didn't taste quite like pizza, but of course there's an Indian touch to it. I really recommend the tandoori corn! I live in the area and India Palace is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants around. The food is flavorful, fresh, and there are a wide variety of options available on the menu. I love starting off with the tandoori items. They are served steaming hot on a kadai. I highly recommend the tandoori chicken, lamb chops, and chicken lollipop. These dishes are so good that sometimes this is all that my friends and I order. As far as the wet dishes, such as the chicken makhani and goat curry, they are also very delicious. In fact, all of the dishes I have tried thus far have been very tasty. However, I will say that the food can sometimes take a bit too long to reach the table. With that said, the owners and staff are still very kind and welcoming. India palace is definitely a must try! read more

We tried this place when it opened up and have been dedicated to the consumption of Indian food ever since. The Owner is warm and welcoming and the liquor store is 2 doors down with native beer(BYOB) from India (Taj, Kingfish,ect), if you want to compliment this very good and well prepared dishes of Native India. The establishment is very calm with Bollywood videos or music playing in the background and very family oriented with home cooked meals on he menu. I would recommend this place a primary Indian food eating spot for those with a non-spicy and varied spicy taste, the Chef seems to always get the tempature right, upon request. The weekday lunch buffet by contrast at $9.99+tax is a good price, but for me it caused stomach discomfort and bloating for 12 hours afterwards, relieving me finally with two loose motions. They should either step up their lunch game, or quit it altogether. Your reputation is all you have these days and consistency means everything. Dinner - 5 stars for food, 2 stars service. On a date night it feels sufficiently elegant yet homestyle family party at the same damn time. Amazing to pull off both vibes. Groups of south Asians abound from late teens, to 50s/60s, chilling, conversing, celebrating, laughing, pouring eachother scotch, Bollywood tunes playing to an upscale-ish ambience. It's live cousin. The food is incredible. Tandoori roti, channa masala, saag, mix tandoori appetizer, and especially the lamb chops all hit the spot. The taste & quality are "out of bounds" *fist bump* as that hefty tv show host on diners, drive-ins, and dives would say. The dishes are pretty reasonably priced too. The lamb chops have left me feeling a little congested in my chest (fat/sodium combo?). Maybe that's just my heart protesting a reaction to too much red meat. I'm not sure it could be prepared any lighter while retaining its impression. There isn't enough service staff for the volume of customers. Consequently, requests for things like crispy roti or "Where's my check-in Lassi" go unmet. Maybe you want to stand up and speak with someone in the front but personally I felt that shouldn't be necessary. They tend to favor servicing bigger parties but not couples as attentively. It should be consistent. They should just hire 1-2 more people when they know it will be busy. Weekday buffet- 2.5 stars for food, 4 stars service. Points for bringing naan to your table fresh and hot. It's soft and buttery the way it seems to be trending. I would like it crispier or at least an option asked if we like it that way. They also bring out a chilled carafe of water. These two are nice touches. The spread however is limited, but given the price you accept it because the taste seems okay initially. Just ask the hungry men from various ethnic backgrounds on a lunch hour here going in on seconds. There's no chaat or tandoori chicken though. I would prefer more traditional and fresher meat (like tandoori chicken which seems healthier to prepare, and hopefully is fresh and cannot be masked by elaborate curry or Indo-chinese fusion strategies). I suspect my stomach issues I won't elaborate on, stemmed from either the wok-inspired seekh kabob w/carmelized onions, a seeming infusion of Indo-chinese flavor but probably prepared as such to laden itself in complexity to mask the cheaper meat being either on it's way to expiration or questionable for consumption, or the saag which had corn in it instead of paneer. I never see saag belittled with this ingredient in India or any metropolitan city in the states. These items seemed a lame excuse or cover up for what should be fresh, top shelf traditional fare. I will not return for lunch. I don't want to feel this way for an entire day after a meal. I'd possibly return for dinner but am reconsidering that given the lunch effects. read more

It says it on the menu but you have to let them know you want it because well you know most people are allergic. What a joke. My friends and I enjoyed yet another delicious dinner at New India palace in Rahway Nj. I have visited this indian restaurant few times already - it is located just 2 min away from Mosaic Salon and Spa where I get my facials and massages and after a nice and relaxing time at the spa this place is a great choice for a nice and friendly dinner. On my last visit I ordered my favorite Lamb Chops, Pizza Naan as appetizer and Mango Lassi. The food is always fresh and deliciious, the staff is very friendly and the owner, Jyoti is very sweet, always greeting everyone with the welcoming smile. India Palace was a breath of fresh air! Indian restaurants are a hit or a miss. It's difficult to find a spot that serves quality dishes for reasonable prices, India Palace thank you for hitting the mark with exceptional flair. I had dinner at India Palace a few weeks ago with friends. Even though a few weeks have passed, I can still remember how delicious the entire meal was. We started the night with Tandoori Corn, Lamb Chops, Paneer Tikka and Tandoori Mixed Grill. For those of you that aren't big fans of Corn, please please give Tandoori Corn a try! It reminded me of authentic cart food found in India, it was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The Lamb Chops were a big hit amongst our group. I'm not usually a fan of lamb chops, but these were so yummy! They were so soft that they practically fell of the bone, it was prepared perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of paneer, so can't say I really enjoyed the paneer tikka, but the sauce itself tasted fine. The Tandoori Mixed Grill was a great option for the group, the meats had flavor and were juicy. For entrees, we chose Fish Malabar Curry, Gosht Masala, Murg Achari, Malai Kofta, and a variety of naans. Fish curry is a staple dish in South Indian cooking. India Palace hit the nail on the mark with their Malabar Curry! It was spicy, aromatic and tasted like it was prepared in a traditional clay pot by an aging grandmother that knew just by looking at it when it was ready to be served. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. The Gosht Masala and Murg Achari were very tasty, no complaints on the preparation and flavor, we all enjoyed it. The Malai kofta was ok for me, again paneer is not my cup of tea, but my friends really enjoyed it. Next time, I want to try out their other veg dishes; if their meats & seafood tasted this good, I can imagine how delicious their non paneer dishes may be. The service was great all night, the waiters kept coming around filling our water glasses and making sure we were happy with our dishes. The owner made it a point to come around, warmly introduce herself and genuinely wanted to know how we liked our dishes. Her friendly personality made it feel like we were dining with friends at a relative's house, as opposed to being in a restaurant. She insisted that we let her know if there was any problem with our meals and reminded us that we can choose the level of spiciness according to our preference. She was a visible presence all night; whether it was greeting guests, assisting the wait staff or answering phones, she was making sure the restaurant was running properly. By the end of dinner, we were way too stuffed to even consider dessert, but their menu had a few choices that looked promising. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. This will be a spot that I can wholeheartedly tell my friends & family about and know that they will have a great experience. Job well done, India Palace! read more

One of my favorite Indian restaurants among the Edison/ Oak Tree Rd. area selection. I've had the lunch time buffet, dine- in dinner, and take out. Each was delicious, filling, and of high quality. The lunch buffet is definitely the best bang for your buck, and a great way to introduce yourself to the myriad flavors of Indian cooking. A la carte items can get pricy, but if you're with a few people willing to share you can have more varied flavors. Lamb saag (puréed spinach style) is my favorite along with just about any biryani (rice dish). Vindaloo was also amazing. Service is prompt, and they leave a pitcher of water on the table as you eat. They didn't trust my boyfriend when he ordered his dish "hot" on the spice scale which is probably smart of them. Caution - their "hot" is truly serious. Rice does not come with the meals, but one order is easily enough for 2-3 people. Jeera rice is where it's at - white rice cooked with aromatic herbs and spices. I have had dinner at just about all the Indian restaurants in the edison/Iselin area but ever since I've had India palace I can't go back to any of the other places. Eating at India Palace feels like I am eating an authentic, fresh Indian meal in a small village in India. It's simply the best. It's a mom and pop shop and byob! Best part....the liquor store is next door. We love having our huge family birthday dinners there because they can accommodate us and they are very children friendly. My favorite dishes are the lamb chops (BEST CHOPS EVER), tawa chicken, tandoori fish, tandoori corn, chicken kebabs, grilled paneer, lasoni chicken and goat biriyani! We read reviews on yelp and decided to give this place a try. It was a sunday afternoon, 1PM. The place was mostly empty. We were asked to select a place and seat ourselves. There was no buffet, as sat and sun there is no buffet. A bit sad but we still decided to proceed. Tables are neat, staff is prompt, there was only one waiter but given that only 4 tables were occupied, there were no delays. They serve complementry papad, fried. We ordered food- sham savera, veg jalfreezi, onion kulcha, paratha and butter naan. All medium spicy. They don't serve complimentary rice. For our indian taste buds the food was rather less spicy, I guess we should have ordered more spices. The curries are a little on the oil heavy side which doesn't go well with our pellet. Breads were good, I specially liked the butter naan which was not too soft like at the other indian joints. The cost was $15 per head including tips. We will like to give another try to this place. But the first visit was not a very rememberable one. 3 stars for service, bread and cost. Hope it is better next time. read more

Visited on a whim, was wanting some great India food, with a cultural vibe. Shamu, was very welcoming at the entrance and accommodating. He actually recommended some favorites and ensured we were happy and satisfied with our food. I truly enjoyed my food and the service.
