Really nice Indian food. I've been here twice now and got chicken pakora, tawa tikki, malai kefta, Haryali Kashmiri Kofta, onion bhagia, garlic naan and onion kulcha. Everything has been great, no exceptions. My SO has been really happy with his entrees too and is looking forward to coming back to see if the vindaloo can make him cry. The flavor profile is great, the portions are massive. I usually default to lamb rogan Josh when I try a new place but have been hitting vegetarian entries since they can be amazing at Indian places and they absolutely are. The price point is decent, very similar to other Indian restaurants of this tier in Jersey. I'm glad they include the rice with the curry which helps the price. They serve papadams with onion, tamarind, and mint chutney to start. Again, I've seen more Indian places omit this or charge for it. Very close to my SOs place, so this will start becoming a regular spot. read more

Got takeout from there with mostly good results, and a miss. First off, the Veg Samosa was awesome! You get 2 very good sized ones, that were very flaky and crunchy with flavorful potato and pea filling. Excellent. But the vegetable Assorted Pakora ( battered and fried veggies) was not good at all. It was doughy and soft, not crispy at all and bland tasting. A total loss. Then the Spring Rolls were a pleasant recovery from that, nice sized, several with the order, and tasted good. The Chicken Pakora (battered fried chicken nuggets) was middle of the road, not too crispy, but the chicken was tender and enjoyable with the spicy dipping sauce. The Onion Kulcha (soft flatbread with onions, herbs and spices in it) was not bad, and went well with the main dish, which was Chicken Nargisi. This is chicken chunks in a spicy coconut milk sauce which was very good. This came with a very generous portion of basmati rice (huge portion, enough for 3-4 people as a side). The rice was aromatic, cooked correctly,not gummy at all. The coconut chicken was seasoned well, the chicken was tender with plenty of sauce. Also a large enough portion to make 2 meals out of it. Killer Indian and Indo-Chinese food! This is exactly what I needed after my time in Missouri. Everything I tried on the lunch buffet was spectacular! They offer a wide variety of different Indian dishes that will satiate anyone. Of course there is no lamb on the buffet, but only Cloves in Budd Lake ever offered that and they are sadly long gone, but never forgotten. read more

It deserves minus 5 stars! OMG!!!! This was the ABSOLUTE WORST Indian food I have EVER had!!!! I was really craving butter chicken but since I didn't see it on the menu I ended up getting Chicken Korma - there really are no words that I can use to describe how completely horrible this dish was. I truly believe that what they did was just pour Campbell Cream of Chicken soup on top of rubbery flavorless chicken. They have no right to call themselves an Indian establishment. In fact they should not be in business selling stuff like this. WILL NEVER RETURN HERE - I'm gagging at the thought of this experience as I write. I have gone to this restaurant often over the years and always enjoyed their buffet lunch. I came this past Sunday 7/20 and was informed quite rudely that I wouldn't be allowed to take any chicken tikka masala. I thought he was trying to tell me they were out of it, but the dish looked full. I asked again, and was told I could not take the chicken tikka masala, which is the best item they serve and the reason I go there. Decided to give Red Pepper's buffet a try. Unfortunately, should have just stuck to the usual spots in Edison. My major complaint is that they didn't have enough food. They'd bring out food sparingly, which would be taken up by 3-4 people when at least 8 people were in the restaurant at the time we were eating. The flavors were also underwhelming! Terrible. Just terrible. Ordered Lamb Biryani the other day, and it was the worst thing I've ever had. It neither looked nor smelled like a Biryani, let alone taste. The lamb cubes were so dry I had a hard time chewing them. And their chicken tandoori -- it was so off that I could literally taste their red food coloring. We just moved to the area looking forward to a new Indian restaurant spot. Appetizers were good, mild paneer pakora and large thick Mirchi were good tasting. Mango lassi good and creamy consistency and not too sweet. We did all veggies, bayngan, chole, and lychee. I liked the cream sauce with the lychee, the bayngan was very tasty especially with aloo naan. Chole a bit extra salt but with lassi who cares. Can't wait to try coconut soup! Ever since Raghini (other indian restaurant) closed there was not other Indian lunch buffet option. Red pepper is further west on rt. 22 but worth the drive. It's right across from the bowcraft amusement park in the strip mall. The flavors is mellowed out for the non native tongue. I loooooove coming here. The aloo paratha is a must. It's very delicious! The servers are very attentive and constantly refill the waters and ask you for refills of rice. One time I wanted something that wasn't labeled on yelp and showed the server what the picture of what it was, he told us what it was called and that it was an appetizer, and he showed us how to eat it too! The food I've ordered so far have all been very tasty. They have a solid amount of vegetarian items on their menu along with dishes with meat. They ask you if you want your dish mild, medium, or hot, which I've had yet to be asked at at other Indian restaurants. There is always room to park in the shared parking lot. I can't wait to come here for their lunch buffet one day! I always end up coming for dinner but every time I have come, it's always been a great experience! We've only been here for dinner and each time, the dishes have been consistently satisfying. The papad accompanied by chutney was served complimentary during dinner time. Then we would start off with onion bhajia and samosas, that by the time the entree dishes arrive, we'd be half full. But still, murg makhani is always delicious and so is their lamb korma. Their rich masala tea is my favorite beverage to order here;warm and rich. A wonderful concoction that I can only get in an Indian restaurant. Service is polite and attentive. Found it to salty for my palate, but it was Edible.. Service was outstanding.Servers were attentive and gave good suggestions on what to order.. We had the Lamb curry and Goat Masala with some Naans. Absolutely terrible. Ordered a Goat Biryani,Chicken Biryani and a Tandoori Sizzler. Not sure how they call this biryani! No flavor and looked like rice mixed with curry. And both the biryanis tasted and looked exactly the same except for the meat.The tandoori sizzler had chunks of chicken kabab which were quite tender and flavorful but the seekh kabab was about 2 days old. And then for some strange reason they covered the all of this with a sweet and sour sauce - even the wedge of lemon! Never again! read more

We ordered from Red Pepper tonight and were incredibly disappointed. The vegetable Biryani was bland to the point of questioning if they put anything more than turmeric in it. The korma tasted like Chef Boyardee tomato and cheese sauce. And the Bhindi was basically just okra and peppers. There was literally no recognizable Indian spice on any of these dishes. Additionally they do not provide any spicy level indicator or order option to specify how spicy the dishes should be. I had Indian food for the first time during a trip to DC about two years ago and when we came back to Jersey I had to find another spot. Luckily this place was just down the highway. The food here is always amazing, my wife and I order their food at least once a week. Our go to is vegetable samosas, chicken curry and chicken tikka masala. We've had all levels of spice for the curry and tikka madam and medium is the best way to go if you want some good heat with a lot of flavor. For people that don't have tolerance for spice I would suggest mild. I could handle the hot, my wife couldn't but if you decide to go that route make sure the next day is a day off from work, if you get my drift. The staff is very welcoming, the pick up service is very fast. I've not had the chance to dine-in yet but I k own they're packed on Friday nights. I've tried other Indian places and this one is hands down the best in this area. You know you've made a good decision when the Indian patrons inside the restaurant claim the place as the best food they've had. Definitely recommend! read more

We just moved to the area and got delivery tonight through DoorDash. We loved Red Pepper! We got three entrees. As others noted, they come with rice at no charge. Paneer Moghlai - So rich and hearty for a vegetarian option. Chicken Tikka Masala - Creamy and flavorful. Chicken Vindaloo - Our favorite of the 3! Tangy, spicy, and so much depth of flavor. We also got garlic naan which tasted good, but seemed maybe a bit dry. Whatever, not a hge deal. We will be ordering again soon.
