I've been dying to try this place and the chicken Tika was incredible.... Everyone also loved the tandoori chicken, naan, let's just say everything we ordered. The restaurant is nicely decorated and intimate. When we arrived the nice waiter helped us order and not over order. I would have given a five but when it comes to service if you're enjoying and paying for your meal a restaurant should know service etiquette. The lady was reaching over us taking plates while we were still eating, when you dine they should ask is everyone done or wait to see everyone stopped eating ask them if they want to go or if they're finished not in this case the food was literally on my son's fork and the waitress took his plate that I grabbed and said he's eating! read more

I usually love the food here. I spent extra to have it delivered from DoorDash... (longer distance). This time the sauce was so SALTY... way too salty to eat. Tasted like ocean water. I called the restaurant to tell them and they told me the recipe didn't change- no apologies- no offers to make it right. Plus I wasn't the only one who said they couldn't eat it bc of the saltiness. I wasn't sharing with my husband. He's the one who said I should write this. I spent $60 on the order and delivery and I could not eat the $22 butter paneer or extra sauce I paid $8 for. I mean, this place is the real dilly-o. My Lamb Bryiriani tasted JUST like the Byriani I had in India. The lamb was incredibly tender and the flavors HIT DA SPOTTTTT. The garlic naan paired very well. The samosas actually struck me as artisan, which was an unexpected but welcome surprise. The service was excellent to top everything off. Truly excellent Indian food. We had the vegetable korma and the paneer butter masala. They were both great. The garlic naan was perfect. The omg naan was expensive ($8!) and way too spicy though. Speaking of cost, this place is pricy. I do wish they had vegetable pakora as an appetizer, but the samosa, papadams and chutneys were all great. The mint in particular had a nice spicy kick. On the less positive side, this was the most expensive Indian restaurant I've been to (each entree was over $20), on the high side even for the area, and I've technically had better. It was also a hot day and the AC was on near the bathrooms in the back but it was simply not reaching the dining area. It felt cooler outside by the time we left. I chose Bombay River cuz I wanted to see what the 5 star yelp review average was all about. The spicy naan was more than many people can handle - it delivers a hell of a kick. When my chicken biryani entree arrived, it too didn't disappoint. Sometimes this dish can be dry but this was just right, balancing the rich ghee flavor while not going overboard on grease. It had delicious spices and meat and rice. I visited on a Saturday night for dinner and the place was packed but they still managed to get me a table for 2 despite not having reservations. The manager/owner greeted us at our table and informed us of the best entrees on the menu. He also went around to all tables to greet customers and make them feel welcomed. This charming restaurant is a must visit. Found myself in Jersey with a hankering for Indian. Beautifully decorated interior (Sam the owners wife has great taste and chose the all of the interior decor) in navy & gold with unique chandeliers and tiny lamps on each table makes it intimate and comfortable. The staff is wonderful...... we were greeted by Sam upon entering, although we were earlier than our designated reservation he promptly seated us. Sam made suggestions for my mother that were spot on.....she loved her starter and her entree. She had the Eggplant Chat and I ordered the Garlic Pepper Shrimp. Both aromatic and perfectly spiced. If you have a sensitivity to spicy food the shrimp may be too much for you (it's made with chili sauce) but I love spicy food and loved this starter dish. The eggplant chat was a delightful mixture of foods paired nicely to bring a flavor to your taste buds delight. My entree was the Angare Chicken which was bought to me on a sizzling cooper skillet with the most tender chicken and onions cooked to perfection. The other entree was the Vegetable Korma which was a mixture of sliced carrots, mini potatoes, peas and cauliflower in a mild sauce, I tried it and give my nod of approval. We shared garlic naan and two mango lassis that were by far the best lassis I have ever had. The staff was beyond accommodating and gave top notch service from start to finish. Bombay River is fantastic! The food was delicious and they are able to customize the spiciness level for most dishes. The service was also excellent. My favorite dishes were the vegetable korma (which also includes paneer which is a bonus) and the papari chat (crispy rice crackers, potatoes, chickpeas). The flavors were spot-on and the best part is the sauces weren't overly sweet which happens at a lot of Indian restaurants. The location in Red Bank is also great for walking around town. We drove 1 hour and half to try this restaurant yesterday with a five year old. It was a great disappointment as the The reviews on both Google and Yelp were great, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. First, the garlic shrimp appetizer was extremely oily and overly spicy. Although we requested all dishes to be mild, the server didn't inform us about the spiciness level of this dish. Next, the butter chicken lacked any spice or flavor--even my five-year-old complained that it wasn't "mild spicy" as requested. We also ordered plain naan and garlic naan, both of which were extremely oily and easily the worst naan we've had at any Indian restaurant. The rice appeared to be leftover--it wasn't hot and had large clumps. Finally, I was hoping the lamb dish would redeem the meal, but it was overly sweet and again not spicy at all, despite our mild spice request. We will not be returning. The ambience is nice but not very fine dine for the price 2. They gave onions and raitha in a cup that was wrapped in plastic. This made the experience feel like a fast food take out place and not a nice dine in place 3. The water glasses were very dusty. My husband and I NEVER eat Indian but we had just come out of local church and Bombay River had so many great reviews we decided to try it. Greeted by a lovely young lady who showed us to our table even though we did not have reservations. It was obvious later on that that was quite nice on her part since the restaurant filled up within the hour. Our waiter explained EVERYTHING on the menu and we were delighted by our choices. Have been here about 10 times now and can confidently say they are one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to, and easily the best within a 20 mile radius. All of the plant based dishes are delicious, my personal favorites include the palak channa (saag chickpea dish), the dal tadka, and the eggplant bhurta. Sadly, I've never stepped foot in the restaurant as I've ordered to go but the food alone deserves five stars. We've tried the lamb vindloo, paneer korma, and mango chicken korma. All dishes have come with basmati rice, which has helped soak up the flavors of the sauce, all of which have been full of spice and flavor. Both the lamb and chicken have been cooked to tender perfection. The hot and crispy garlic naan has yet to disappoint. Good Indian food when in Red Bank. I was expecting to be blown away based on the overall reviews but I actually found the food to be a step below some of the best places I've visited. Indian is my favorite cuisine, so I seek it out wherever I go. With that, I have experienced quite a range of exposure and, with it, expectations. The most surprising was the chicken tikka masala, where the chicken did not seem to be tandoori type chicken. The taste and texture was just off. Some of the other dishes seemed to lack flavor and complexity. Overall, it was just average to me and a few others in my party. The service was 5+ stars from all staff and servers involved. I appreciate the service as well because I did not have reservations and I was able to be seated almost immediately in a somewhat busy Saturday night. The wait staff were very helpful describing dishes and recommendations. I even saw them providing samples of the sauces to other tables to verify the amount of spice. I think most of the dishes you had the option of medium, medium plus, or spicy. The lamb butter masala was the best dish of the night! The sauce was phenomenal and I coated my rice and garlic naan in it. The basmati rice was a little dry but that's why you coat it in the sauce. The samosas were delicious and one of the best I've had. The special biryani rice was good too and it came with a trio of protein. The garlic naan was garlic naan and the mango lassi was fantastic. Although 7 dollars for the amount of drink you get is expensive. Finally, the food came out relatively quickly. All in all, I can see why this place has won awards for best Indian restaurant and is considered one of the best restaurants in "central" Jersey. They simply never fail to meet all of our expectations each and every time we dine with them.
