CHANA MASALA (G.F)
Kristin Frances K.

Cute little spot right on Monmouth Street. Food and service are fantastic. Samosas and Chana masala were absolutely delicious. Also recommend the cheese stuffed naan - put the chickpeas on that bad boy like a taco, you won't regret it.

I tried the bollywood vegetable, the aloo achari, and the chana saag. The bollywood vegetable by far had the best flavor ranking at a very good dish. The aloo achari came in second being good. And the Chana saag at third being around average maybe slightly below average. The portions are average or slightly below. All of the food was good and the staff was friendly and accommodating with questions related to the menu. The prices are extremely high here for Indian food, all of the dishes I ordered were fully vegetable/vegan dishes and each dish averaged at $20 per. None were órgano as expected. It is an expensive area being located in red bank but because none of the dishes were what I would call extremely good, and the chana saag being average or below average. I'm not too sure I'd come back again.

We tried takeout from Agra tonight and were very pleased! We had the chicken Korma, Saag Paneer, Daal makhani, Navratan Korma, garlic naan & raita. Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and the restaurant looks looked nice but we were just in to pick up our order.

Garlic naan, spinach paneer, lamb roganjosh!

We came here on a cold and windy night. And the food filled us with warmth. The dishes were superb, from the spices of the individual dishes to the Naan bread. Definitely a 5-star restaurant. The service was excellent too, and they have vegan, vegetarian dishes, as well as shrimp, fish, lamb and chicken dishes. I highly recommend the assorted samosa, the fried cauliflower as appetizers, and the lamb Roganjosh, Bollywood vegetables and the spinach paneer as entrees. There are so many choices that I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes!

The staff and service were as warm and welcoming as ever. The decor hasn't changed much, and it still feels primarily like a takeout spot, although there are several tables if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. We ordered quite a few things: Indian Plate 3.5/5 The tofu was a little too fried this time and wasn't quite as enjoyable as I remembered. The sauce, however, is still very good. Buffalo Soldier 4/5 Still a solid choice. Their crispy baked tempeh buffalo wings are tossed in hot sauce and served in a wrap. The only thing missing was their creamy ranch, which I completely forgot to ask for. Cauliflower Crunch Wrap 4/5 This was a new addition for us, although we remember seeing it several years ago. My friend said it was delicious. Gluten Free Jam Cookie 3/5 My friend didn't finish it, saying the cookie was a little too dense for her liking. Slutty Brownie 3/5 The brownie portion on top was excellent, but the bottom had a very dense cookie layer that was a little much for us. Tiramisu 4/5 Smooth, creamy, and topped nicely. A very enjoyable dessert. Service 5/5 The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming, just as we remembered. Overall, it was nice to come back after several years and revisit a place that brought back some good memories. Some things were just as good as we remembered, while a few others weren't quite the same for us this time around.

We had a really wonderful experience at Haldi Chaowk. We ordered quite a variety of dishes, wanting…read moreto try as much of the menu as possible, and were genuinely impressed. I've always felt that Indian food is particularly difficult to do as fusion. The flavors are so complex and deeply rooted in tradition that it's easy to lose what makes the cuisine special. But the chef here has managed to bring a fresh, creative approach without losing the essence of Indian food. What surprised me most was learning that the food could be prepared without added oil or sugar. I honestly didn't think that was possible while still getting such rich flavors! And the desserts were equally surprising. No added sugar, yet absolutely delicious. The service was excellent too. We had the opportunity to interact with the chef, and what really stood out was his passion for food. He clearly loves what he does, and that enthusiasm comes through in the dishes. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that's trying something different and actually pulling it off so well. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going back!

The chef clearly knows what he is doing and, overall, the food is good. However, the prices on the menu are lower than what they charge you at check out which is very shady and it is plainly wrong. On average they were $2 more......just update your menu!! No wonder the restaurant was empty, we will not go back.
