Paneer Pasanda, Garlic Naan, Rice (Fall 2024 Restaurant Week)

I truly enjoyed the food at Saffron and am excited to return. Many Indian places in the area can be questionable but Saffron makes for a great meal with great vibes as well. I finally tried this restaurant during restaurant week and was able to have a few different courses. The paneer roll was good, but I would probably try something else on the menu when I return since they had many intriguing options. I liked the gulab jamun as well as the gobi. Would definitely come here for a brunch or nice dinner again and try new items!

Food is always amazing and the service is super attentive. Me and my girlfriend usually go around lunch on the weekends and we always have a great time. The vibe is nice too, giving it a more upscale feel that you do not usually see at Indian restaurants. Last time the staff even gave us mocktails on the house, which was such a kind gesture. We cannot wait to go back!

We just dined at Saffron for the second time. It was absolutely exquisite. The service was excellent. Every bite of food was delicious. And the ambiance was beautiful. The lighting was perfect. It was my mom's birthday, and they brought out a special treat. I couldn't have asked for a better celebration. Thank you, Saffron! We'll be back in the future.

Beautiful restaurant, service and ambiance are nice. Some of the food was a miss for us. I would skip the crab dosa and the tandoori bao buns. We also didn't like the chicken curry. We did however love the chicken biryani, lamp chops, paneer and the gulab jamun dessert. The kulfi presentation was great but they were def just frozen from a grocery store. I'm glad I tried this place. The service topped the food for us!

TLDR (SOLID 4/5) Saffron Modern Indian Dining offers some really good and interesting Indian dishes with a spin. I sadly did not get to try the dessert but they went a little viral for their Foggy Assorted Kulfis! Food is unique and tasty but very small quantities for the price. Not sure if they are going for a fine dining restaurant but if they are then it loses points for ambiance because the tables are situated too tightly with one another. The music is BLASTING and you find it a bit hard to hear your partner or friends. Hard to recommend as a date spot if you struggle to hear each other. Service was decent but I can tell it's above average. Seems to be a delicate balance between the volume of customers they want to pack in all-at-once versus high-end dining service. (I went for dinner around 8) At the end of the day if you want an experience and don't mind the price point to try the food then it's worth it! Other than that it's a good restaurant with a smart casual, but no restrictions on outfits vibe, with decent flavors and a visual experience. Food (4.5/5): There are a few items I did not get to take a picture of, but I also had the Garlic Naan (Because how can you not when you have curry!) and the crispy cauliflower. (We received this as complimentary because they had cooked our entrees before the appetizer.) Flavors are for sure a banger but you would hope so for the price you are paying for it. Naan was decent, was firm and fluffy and paired decently well with the curry we had. Stand outs were the butter chicken and tandoori lamb chops! Butter chicken was delicious and there was a lot of sauce but not a lot of chicken. Other than that it hit just the spot. The lamb chops were cooked pretty good. They are not mind-blowingly tender but had a good smokey flavor along with the sauce. Cauliflower was good but I don't know if I would personally get it again for the price. Croquettes were good and cooked decently. Kullar chai for dessert because they ran out of their most popular ones. (The Assorted Kulfis and Mango Ghevar.) Personally the chai was nothing too special and the other desserts seemed to be the winner. Especially the Assorted Kulfis as they have high presentation value with the dry ice spilling out! (Can't say for the taste) Decor and Ambiance (SOLID 4/5): Immediately first impressions is that it feels high-end and the decor is great. Decent quality utensils. Bathroom is cute and clean. The main issue comes depending on where you are seated. It's situated almost like an arrowhead with an additional room on the bottom right for more tables/ kitchen/ and hallway bathroom. The problem is on the sides the tables are situated WAYYY too close to each other where some people have to squeeze their way in. I believe they tried to present themselves as a romantic, high-presentation location, and it shows with their food and decor. The table seating feels like they wanted to get in as many customers as possible, however, that also adds to more noise. The amount of tables versus waiters also affects service quality which I will get to later. When it is packed it gets really hard to hear your partner. Overall, it is solid and a nice spot when not overcrowded. Service (3.5/5): I went towards opening so I don't know how the service has panned out over the past few months. When I went the front coincides with other reviews where some of the people manning it are not as friendly or welcoming. The waiters and waitresses are fantastic but their ability is hindered by the layout and amount of workers per table. There are times water would not be refilled and some individuals that are in upper management will see and not handle it. I would cut the waiters slack but it ultimately will reflect on this review. Especially if they are going to charge a premium and present themselves as a modern dining location. Service is going to be important. They did shoot out the appetizers before the entrees but gave a free appetizer as a courtesy which is really nice. They still deserve their flowers as WHEN they can attend to you it is (5/5)! Very polite, and they seemed to understand the etiquette to some extent of what the establishment meant. They just have some quirks to work out and I can see the place shining as a top location in Red Bank. Overall (SOLID4/5): It has a lot of dietary options like Vegan, Organic, Dairy-free, and more which is great! Some of the food options are really solid and the presentation is up there with fine dining establishments. For a date spot it's decent but if it's busy the noise can be a bit bothersome for conversation. The main issues with the place is less the food but more so the structure. It seems there is a balance between quality service and money to be gained per customer. If it fixes or manages the seating issue that is affecting the performance of the service than it can be a stand out location. I'd say it's worth a try at least, I'll be back to try the Kulfi!

This was my first time here. I only tried one dish which was the vegetable stew. I found the dish was lacking flavor and an appealing texture compared to other similar dishes at Indian restaurants. Because of the rich area, higher prices, and higher end appeal of the restaurant I hoped to be impressed. I was not at all. It was an underwhelming experience for any Indian restaurant in terms of the dish I had. Beyond the dish- everything was very good, the service, staff, and environment did meet my standards. The food was the only exception but of course holds the most weight.

Stopped here for dinner with friends. The service was supper attentive and friendly. Cute atmosphere. We tried a variety of things. The presentation is so cute. Our favorites were the butter chicken, crab dosa, samosas, and chicken croquette.

My fiance and I decided to visit Saffron for his birthday dinner. I was able to make a reservation through their website. Upon entering the ambiance is very cozy and romantic with dim lighting and candles at every table. They also had modern Bollywood music playing in the background. We got the lamb laal maas tarts and tandoori chicken croquettes. The tarts were very good. The dough was flaky. I wasn't sure how good lamb and caviar would be together but it works very well and we would order them again. The description says the lamb is spicy but I didn't it find it too spicy, just flavorful. The croquettes were creamy on the inside instead of being pieces of chicken. I enjoyed them a lot and the sauce they came with was very tasty. Would definitely recommend both of these. For our entrees we got the Saffron butter chicken (we just had to), truffle morel lamb korma, Dum Chicken Biryani, and the truffle naan. We love butter chicken and this one did not disappoint. It was very flavorful but also presented beautifully. The lamb korma was very tender. The truffle naan complemented the black truffle and bone marrow infused sauce really nicely. The butter chicken and lamb korma come with a side of rice but we both wanted to try the Dum chicken biryani. It's was served in a bowl where you remove the leaf covering yourself. It was a little spicy but so good and came with big pieces of chicken! For dessert we had the foggy assorted kulfis. The presentation was beautiful (the "fog" is made using dry ice). I recommend removing them from the display right after you capture the moment or else they might slide off the stick. The flavors were all amazing but we both liked the rose one the most. We usually aren't fans of rose flavored things but it just tasted sweet. Our only criticism would be that there were no drink menus. However, when we asked they said they had the usual soft drink options as well as mango lassi. It would have been nice to see mango lassi as I probably would've ordered it earlier on. Everything about the experience was great. Someone even came after our meal to make sure everything was ok. I will definitely be visiting again!

Had an amazing dinner at Saffron last week. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, it is so elegant and beautiful. The mural painting they have is beautiful and is a great touch to this amazing restaurant. I really loved the Tandoori Octopus. The mushroom fondue sauce under it was DELICIOUS and was perfect to dip your naan bread in. The Butter Chicken was also very tasty and flavorful. The Prawns Narkel Shorshe came out in a coconut and was so good! All the dishes I got were presented beautifully and were very fresh and delicious. I will definitely be back soon!

I visited during the public opening night and enjoyed myself. Described as Indian Fusion by an owner, the menu mixes classic dishes with street food and other national cuisines. Highly recommended. Expensive, ambitious - and one of a kind here in Red Bank. BYOB Very friendly staff and owners, lovely new room with an indigo ceiling (love that color). I'm at 4 stars as I had only 3 items so far: fig naan; crispy cauliflower; puri pati. The latter are crispy balls one pours a mix for spices and flavors into then pops in the mouth. Mint, mango, jal Jetti (spell?) and a fourth. All items were terrific. Opening night Friday south Asian hip hop was playing (not too loud) along with Bad Bunny, a family favorite. Active buzz and vibe scene. There is much on the menu to explore here, at this lively classy fine dining addition to our scene. Check it out !

Since moving to upstate NY four years ago, I only get to Good Karma when visiting family in NJ. During our latest trip we stopped at Good Karma to pick-up dinner on the way to my parent's house. We ordered the Love Bowl, Gado Gado Salad, and the Live Nachos. Issues: 1) The Gado Gada salad was a big miss. It's supposed to include lettuce, tofu, cabbage, carrots, roasted peanuts, and a sesame seed mix. There was ZERO sesame seed mix and literally ONE roasted peanut. We had asked the tofu be swapped for beans, which did happen, but basically all my wife got was a salad with lettuce and beans. 2) Live Nachos: what a HUGE disappointment. I've had these a number of times in the past and was really looking forward to these. One of my favorite parts has always been the creamy cashew sour cream. THIS TIME, there was one small dollop of the cashew cream. We basically paid $15 for a box of seasoned lettuce with 8 nacho chips -- not nearly enough chips to even eat with our seasoned lettuce. The Love Bowl, fortunately, was on par with my past experiences. However, the experience still left me questioning whether it's worth returning to Good Karma next time.

The mashed fava was delicious and has become my new obsession. However, I disappointed with the rest of my lunch. The octopus was tough and one small portion had a bitter taste slightly like vinegar. It could've been that it was charred on the grill And so it tasted a bit bitter. I still ate it trying to find a piece that maybe would have tasted better and tender and then that brought back a recollection of the last time that I was here that my friend and I felt the octopus was a bit tough. Most likely overcooked. The fried calamari did not have flavor. At $21 for the appetizer, I expected better. I have a hard time trying to find good calamari and I think I've been to maybe two places that actually seasoned the breading and the calamari was delicious. Not here. It also was not served with lemon. I've gone between giving them 3 or 4 stars but decided on four since I can't give 3.5. I'm basing my rating on the cleanliness of the place, the space, the service, as the young lady who was my waitress was an absolute doll, and the fava, paella, lamb kebabs and huge portions. Would I go here again, yes, I would, but I will try other dishes. I will not be ordering the calamari here or anywhere else again nor will I be ordering the octopus here again.
