We love Hyderabad Spice. It's owned by a mix of friends from Hyderabad. There is a family vibe there and service is always friendly and welcoming. The staff is always so patient whenever we ask about certain dishes. Servings are large and we invariably always over order and have leftovers. The cilantro chicken is our favorite but everything is equally tasty and delicious. Keep in mind, the main entrees come with rice so ordering biryani may be overkill although the biranyj comes with lamb, goat or chicken. I ordered takeout from Hyderabad Spice. Based on recommendations, we ordered the Hyderabad chicken curry and paneer tikka masala at 4/5 spice level and it actually was cooked to that spice level. The chicken curry was more aromatic but there was a lot of cilantro in our dish which was a little overwhelming. Our order was ready within 30 minutes. I don't usually eat Indian food, but we decided to give this place a try since it was close to our house. It's a relatively small spot, but we noticed that they have some daily specials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as we went in. After ordering, it did take a fairly long time for our food to arrive. I thought the naan was a bit bland. The lamb biryani was pretty good, but a little dry for me. However, the hyd goat curry was exceptional. There was so much depth of flavor. This is by far the best Indian restaurant in NJ. my family love Indian cuisine. Their Biryani (we always order chicken, fish and goat) are really good, bursting with spices. My friend and I went for a short hike at Cheesequake State Park and later decided to go for a late lunch in an Indian restaurant. We checked on Yelp the nearest Indian restaurant and came across Hyderabad Spice in Matawan. It was a decent restaurant offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus. We got the Chili Gobi as a start which is cauliflower seasoned with spices. We had also Goat Biryani- bone in goat meat, black pepper and spices. The food was wonderful, the goat biryani was so good and flavorful, the basmati rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. This is so far the best Indian restaurant in NJ if I may say. The place is clean and cozy and the service is good. I will recommend this place to friends and will definitely go back to try their other menus. TIP: Indian Cuisine is known for being spicy, if you're not fun of spicy foods, upon ordering you may request for a mild one. read more

We haven't seen each other in awhile and we got to talking/gossiping. For an app we ordered Paneer 65. It's lightly battered paneer in a chili sauce. I'm not going to lie, when they gave this to us I was a bit scared of how red the color was. But in all honestly, it was spicey at all!! It had a little kick to it which I appreciated! We also ordered garlic naan which was fantastic! Who doesn't like carbs with garlic and butter? My friend ordered the lamb biryani - I had a bite along with some lamb and yogurt sauce. And omg, it was so good! It was heavily spicy, but she asked for medium spice. I ordered the butter chicken which came with basmati rice. This dish was also great and wonderfully spiced. Prices were also not bad at all and very affordable! I appreciated that! The portions were pretty good as well! My husband never had Indian food at all. I decided to start him off with biryani since it's an easy introductory food. When I got home he literally ate the whole thing. He absolutely loved it and he wants to go here now! A clean restaurant, though most people seemed to be picking up takeout. The food didn't take long to come out, and two dishes was the perfect amount for two people. We ordered medium spicy for the eggplant dish, but we could have gone higher, as it was just a touch spicy. The tikka masala was standard. But all around a good place for Indian! read more

Some appetizers are larger in portion and can be eaten as a main such as the Chicken 65. The Vindaloo was amazing and had such a wonderful freshness and fragrant spices. You can request the level of spice which you're most comfortable. The Biriani Rice also showcased a great flavor and spice and the rice was so fluffy. Long overdue for another amazing review. We had originally visited the restaurant a few weeks after they opened. And ohhh my. Amazing is an understatement. There's not one single dish we have not loved. The owner has also ordered for us with his recommendation for both on and off the menu dish. Service is incredible. Love the attention to details with presentation of dishes. If you aren't an experienced "spicy" food person I strongly recommend getting mild spice. Very lovely place with a lovely new owner. I came here during a holiday weekend for Muslims. This place opened up a few months ago and it was near my hometown so I decided to try it out. My family and I got Lamb biryani, chicken samosas, and garlic naan. The food was wonderful. The rice was cooked to perfection and seasoned with just the right amount of spice. The platter was filled with fresh chunks of lamb that was cooked to the perfect temperature. Their non-was light and fluffy and still held warm on the ride back home. We order takeout and it took about 25 minutes for the food to come out. They originally told us 15 minutes and because we were waiting a little longer the owner gave us 2 cups of mango lassi which was amazing. He even wished us a happy holiday which was very sweet. Great food, great service, easy parking. We had the Gobi 65 with raita sauce, sooo yummy, and then we had paneer tikka masala with more raita and naa'n and it was great. The Naan was buttery, thin with just right amount of crisp and paneer was perfect texture and all around great spices! Decent-sized family owned restaurant with plenty of great options (vegetarian and non-vegetarian). Decoration-wise it was very simple, a few paintings, a dimmed light and live flowers on the table which felt a bit romantic. The food was authentic and the flavors were top notch. They make you feel at home as soon as you arrive and they are very accommodating on spice levels (xtra spicy for me and mild for my wife). My favorite play was the HS Chicken 65, it had so much flavor I could've eaten alone. The Biryani was so soft it felt like I was stabbing a pillow. I was in the mood for Indian food so I decided to order for Hyderabad Spice. I got the lamb biryani, samosa, and garlic nan. The biryani was good and had a nice spice to it. Mix that with the sauces and you have hit the jackpot. The samosa was a little too salty for me but it wasn't bad. The garlic nan was okay, I think it's because I didn't eat it with a curry. After reading the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Hubs wanted to try someplace different and this came to mind. We were immediately seated after arriving. The restaurant is long and dimly-lit, with very minimal decoration. Three framed art pieces line the leftmost wall while a long row of booths adorns the same wall. A row of individual booths lines the opposite wall, with sconces placed above all of the seats in the restaurant. Daughter ordered the chicken saag. Hubs thought it was good and that it was nicely seasoned and that it had plenty of veggies. This was daughter's favorite entree of the night. She thought it had a burst of flavor. She liked it so much that she will order it again when we come back here next time. Hubs ordered the tandoori fish and thought this was his standout entree of the evening. He's never had it like that before and was wondering where has it been all his life? LOL. This fish was his first time in a long time since he had pomfret. Growing up, it was considered to be a cheap alternative because of small size and lack of meat, but hubs loves obliterating fish with bones. He's a potential choking victim. He said that he can't wait to go back to see it they will do the same recipe for a larger fish. Lastly, I ordered the egg biryani and I thought it had the right amount of spice. Daughter thought it was delicious but that it tasted like the other egg biryanis that she's ever had. She would still order it again. I liked it a lot and thought it was a bit spicy. I usually order the same thing from any Indian restaurant I visit - (being a vegetarian) my go-to is sag paneer. I ordered this (amongst other veggie dishes the second time) and the Sag Paneer was not the same.. it was like water or soup.. no flavor, so much water, the thinnest sag I have even seen from the literally hundreds of Indian restaurants I went too.. I felt ok.. maybe they got a new chef, let me give them one more shot, in hopes I loved it... I just picked up my 3rd order now.. the sag paneer was again tasteless and thin like soup .. u def can't eat it with a fork.. I also order gobi 65 as well as veggie samosas.. the Gobi was soooooo mushy, not a crisp to me found .. the rice they gave w my order (I measured and it was literally 1/2 cup).. impossible for 2 people to share.. I realllllllllly wanted to love it... but this was def one of the worst sag dishes I ever had.. it is what it is.. def will not go back for a 4th time or there ever again.. The owners and staff were so nice and personally came over to the table explained to some of the guests what some of the foods were to order. very pleasant atmosphere .....
