3. Chicken Vindaloo
Darsha M.

Would give a 3.5/5. I came with a couple of friends and we started with the aloo tiki and papadi chat as appetizers. They both were great and good portions to share with 3 people. For entrees, one friend ordered a mild paneer makhani and we also shared a medium spicy chicken vindaloo. The vindaloo wasn't spicy at all which made the meal underwhelming. I also ordered paneer tikka masala and chicken 65 for takeout both with 4/5 spice level and unfortunately it was mild and the gravy for the paneer was too creamy. The restaurant is BYOB so that is a nice to have but the meals weren't amazing.

Take out night: Butter chicken and lamb Tikka masala. Garlic naan.

This is our go to Indian take out. The restaurant is small and doesn't look like much from inside but the food is packing bold flavors. They assume mild for all dishes unless you specify you want it spicy. Great Indian food. Our favorite dishes are very similar and I still struggle to figure out the difference even when blind tasting, the Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken) and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both are amazing regardless so challenge yourself to taste the difference. We've also enjoyed trying their Lamb Saag (creamy spinach sauce), Aloo Tikki (Fried potatos with chili and cheese), Tomato soup (great when not feeling well - warming indian spices), Lamb Korma (spicy, rich and creamy), Lamb Vindaloo (Lamb & potatoes in a rich, spicy gravy). They also have a Chicken Biryani which is the best I have had outside of a homemade version. Garlic naan is amazing. Never forget an order of Garlic Naan with butter/ghee.

This is my to go place for Indian food in Sayreville. Restaurant is pretty consistent with the taste. Whenever I am craving Indian food, this is the best place to stop by! If you planning to stop by definitely try some my favorite dishes: Gajar halwa, aloo padi chaat, Tomato soup, paneer Tika masala. Additionally, restaurant was recently renovated. :)

Food was very good. Unfortunately, I haven't had much Indian cuisine to have a good comparison with different dishes but what I did have was very good. It is one of my favorites but I never know what to order. The menu is very descriptive as well as the servers being very helpful. Every dish we ordered was made with fresh ingredients. I love "heat" with most of my international cuisines, but there is no way I could do more than medium recommended heat. It was the perfect heat for me! If you don't like heat, ask for much less. One of our servers, Rajan, was also the chef who prepared our entrees. I explained I wanted a meal with Shrimp and very little oil and cream. He recommended the curry dish. Appetizer...Samosa Chat. Great portion for four people if your looking for something to split. This app was so delicious The Lamb Mushroom and Shrimp Curry we're both very good. I love my shrimp dish. The shrimp were the perfect flavor and texture. I'm real particular with my shrimp and scallops wherever I go. I'm always looking for a certain flavor and texture with the two seafood. I can't forget the Garlic Naan! It's one of those flavors I'd be very happy not to share with anyone. Just indulging my palette with Shrimp Curry and Garlic Naan would be heavenly! Yum!!

Tandoori Chicken

This place has very little room for improvement. The food is absolutely perfect. The Tandoori chicken is my favorite. It was perfect and packed with flavor. Everything we had was simply amazing. The garlic Naan needed more butter and garlic, but I don't even care - that's how great the rest of the food is here. 10/10

This was all our first time eating Indian food and Reese was so helpful. Reese explained the cooking. methods and seasoning of the best selling dishes, she made easier for us to pick our appetizers and main dishes! We started with the lollipop chicken, garlic shrimp, and butter garlic Naan. The shrimp were out of this world with the creamiest sauce to dip the Naan. WOWWWW explosion of goodness. We shared different dishes for our mains, we had butter chicken, tandoori chicken, & chicken mango curry. Our mouths were having a party of outstanding flavors never had before. Each dish was unique the butter chicken was the best one for us all. The tandoori chicken was super flavorful served on a sizzling fajita dish. The mango chicken was a perfect hint of sweet and tangy. If you ever wanted to have Indian cuisine and not sure where to go, look no further than Aangara for the best experience! I placed a take out order through Yelp. 10 minutes go by and there's no notification from the app about my order being confirmed by the restaurant, so I call them up to see what's going on. The lady on the other side said they don't have the items I had ordered and even let me talk to the chef personally who suggested some alternatives based on what they had fresh. Let's talk about the food. My order consisted - chicken tikka and chicken sheekh kebab. The sheekh kebab was fantastic, the grounded meat was cocked perfectly with spices and it was soft and juicy. The chicken tikka was a little harder than I'd like but had good flavor. The food was excellent, the customer service was top notch and the entire experience was great. Do give this place a try.

Nothing fancy, but gets the job done with average portion sizes and flavors.

Again, this is really not the place to order traditional Indian food. The beauty lies in the modern, creative dishes and flavors. In fact, if you want to order a traditional dish, the owner will likely not let you!! But letting him guide my journey was the best choice because we had some exciting flavors that are unlike anything else you will try. My favorites were the bhel puri with guacamole (so good with some papadum to dip) and the malai kofta tacos. They were absolute flavor perfection and so unique. The ambience is super casual but the owner will treat you like it is a Michelin star dining experience! He brought out lots of fun (free) snacks in between the courses. Given this, I would prepare for at least 2 hours for the full dine in experience. Again, not what you would expect from an Indian spot in a strip mall but it was such an unexpected delight. Overall it was an excellent culinary experience but make sure you reset your expectations if you are looking for quick, traditional Indian cuisine.
