I placed a take out order through Yelp. 10 minutes go by and there's no notification from the app about my order being confirmed by the restaurant, so I call them up to see what's going on. The lady on the other side said they don't have the items I had ordered and even let me talk to the chef personally who suggested some alternatives based on what they had fresh. Let's talk about the food. My order consisted - chicken tikka and chicken sheekh kebab. The sheekh kebab was fantastic, the grounded meat was cocked perfectly with spices and it was soft and juicy. The chicken tikka was a little harder than I'd like but had good flavor. The food was excellent, the customer service was top notch and the entire experience was great. This restaurant epitomizes "homemade Indian cuisine". I would recommend this place to anyone who misses a warm home-cooked plate and can recommend their paneer tikka masala. Their puris are also not as oily as what I've come to expect which is awesome. If you're looking for a place that creates eccentric out-of-the-box flavors this isn't the place for you, if you want a simple cooked meal, you'll get that here though. Customer service and food is the worst at this place. No one is there to help you. I ordered a dish to go via phone and i waited 20 mins to be acknowledged by a worker to find out my food has been sitting there the whole time. Food gave me diarrhea for two days. Not worth it!! I had high hopes for this place based on the raving reviews both here and google. I ordered garlic naan, vegetable pakora, chicken tikka masala and chicken curry. First, they ran out of rice. They substituted 2 extra naans instead which was nice. The vegetable pakora was spicier than at any other restaurant I've ever tried. I'm not sure if it was the batter or something inside but it wasn't a pleasant eating experience. The chicken tikka masala was chunky and incredibly spicy and actually tasted just like the chicken curry. The app gave no options for spice levels for food so we assumed the default would be mild. (We obviously assumed incorrectly). Super disappointed. Probably will not order from here again. Only gave 2 stars bc the lady in the restaurant was nice. read more

Went with my sister for lunch -- we're both very happy to have an Indian restaurant so close to home! The buffet itself was out of service, so we ordered from the menu. The veggie samosa is absolutely delicious & the vegetable pakora was probably the best I've ever had -- perfectly fried, tender, nicely spiced & not at all greasy. My entree, mutter paneer was very good & my sister's chicken makhani was even better. We also had the yellow dal, which was a bit hot for me. The mango lassi served as dessert & was perfect. On other occasions we had the tandoori chicken & paneer tikka, which were both excellent. My only very small criticism has nothing to do with the food. I just wish they would do away with the disposable cups. The service was attentive & pleasant. There's no ambiance to speak of (think take-out sort of place) but nonetheless I highly recommend Royal Indian Restaurant & I'm looking forward to going back for the buffet. read more

Royal Indian is one of the new establishment in Sayreville,NJ. Thought of trying over last weekend. We have tried take out of following - Mixed Non Veg Grill- Assortments of tandoori and Kabab , fresh and spiced perfectly for Indian taste buds. Malai Kofta- Kofta was well cooked and filled up well with cashews, gravy was nice and tasty. Comes with rice. Good for two. Chicken 65- Chicken 65 was ok with other comparative standards , not great. I would definitely go to Royal again, price was good for weekend take out and food made fresh. This restaurant is a great surprise. The food is excellent and the server was very helpful. Our group had four people. We had more than enough food for everyone, even after we pigged out. The best indian restaurant around. I have ordered almost 4-5 times and have never been dissapointed even once. The seekh kababs are to die for.. soo yummilicious. I have tried chicken masala , paneer kurma, aloo parantha, non veg platter , onion kulcha, chicken biryani. Was quite surprised bu the quantity of dahi bhalle, sucha generous portion. Kheer (rice pudding) in the platter was a gem in its own. Thanks for bringing true north indian food to our plates. Food is generally very good but just experienced the worst service. Ordered over $50 worth of food and it arrived without any rice at all. We called the restaurant immediately to let them know and basically the response was "Sorry - new guy - we take care of this next time". What? I grew up with most of my friends being Indian and I'm from a totally different culture ( Dominican Republic) So I have acquired a taste for the spices and delicious foods of the Indian cuisine. The goat curry was not at all satisfying. Two big bones with no meat. Not worth it. Spend a dollar more and get much much better curry from other restaurants. I ordered Many items. But only chicken tandoori was to some extent good. If you are a good eater then order 3 goat curries that would be enough with one rice that is provided with it. read more

This is recently opened New Restaurant in the area. We decided to try the buffet. On weekend buffet is for 9.99$. the variety for that price is really great. Daal and veg biryani was amazing.
