I went with my family and were greeted by friendly staff members who answered all of our questions and made our bowls to perfection. You can order at the kiosk or at the counter for a BYO bowl. I got their signature paneer bowl with the chana masala instead of the black beans and it was so good. I've had indian fusion bowls in many different cities before and always feel like they're overpriced and bland, but these bowls FINALLY hit the spot. The paneer was super soft and plentiful, the mix-ins and sauces pack flavor in every bite, and the spice level can be customized based on what you end. The portions are huge and I got 2 meals out of 1 serving. They do have indoor seating but its limited, so I would recommend take out or sitting outside by the towns outdoor seating if you have a larger group. Westfield has gained a new eatery and it is a unique fusion restaurant combining Indian and Mexican cuisine into one. Located on the same street as Fleet Feet (the former Jack Rabbit) at one end and Warby Parker at the other, it is in good company with other restaurants on the same block and across the street. Masalamex is designed to look very different than the other businesses on the block, with black being the primary color in the restaurant causing almost everything you order to contrast against it. It actually has the feel of a lounge with some plush seating. You could probably fit about 8-10 people here max. Beyond that is the counter where you order with several LCD screens overhead showing what they have to offer. One of Masalamex's primary dishes are their bowls which can feature Mexican rice with curry. However, on my first visit other dishes caught my eye. Here's what my partner and I had: LAMB MASALA KATI ROLL This wrap features grilled lamb, fresh red onions, cilantro-mint sauce and signature masala. The cilantro-mint sauce is a generous amount. I dipped every bite of the roll into it and still had some left over! The lamb was cooked perfectly and the roll was nice and warm. I'd get this again any time. PANEER FIESTA KATI ROLL This roll features grilled paneer wrapped in a tortilla with onions, cilantro menta sauce and masala. In many ways it's basically the same as the Lamb roll but with paneer, yet somehow the flavor was very different and satisfying in a different way. Excellent alternative if you don't want to have meat. SAMOSA CHAT This savory dish features a samosa covered in spiced chickpeas, chutney, yogurt and sev. If you get a bit of the samosa and the sauce on top it's a wonderfully savory bite. I would say it would probably be delicious if you dipped naan into it as well! TWISTINADAS As the name suggests, these are Empanadas filled with Indian ingredients. We had chicken and panner, both of which were delicious. That said, for sheer "burst of flavor" factor the chicken definitely won. The staff was very attentive and answered a lot of questions from us and other customers. Keep in mind, we had this before their grand opening, so even during their soft opening this place was on point with their food. My only recommendation to them would be to stock a wider variety of drinks. I would have loved to have a Coke Zero or something with my meal but all their sodas were full sugar (which I'm not supposed to have for health reasons). Masalamex is a nice addition to downtown Westfield and definitely gets an A for effort and flavor. I got the lamb bowl and really enjoy the spice and flavors. If I was being picky, I'd say the lamb was a tad dry and the combination of the saag sauce, the spicy sauce, and the elote made it all really heavy. But, I still really enjoyed it. The bowl was very reasonably priced too. I also really enjoyed the samosa. The naan was solid. Not a place I'll crave, but will definitely go back and is worth a try. I hope it does well. read more

I stuck with primarily Indian options and chose a naan bowl, in which a freshly made naan bread -- with optional flavors, such as garlic -- is topped with your selection of rices, proteins, sauces, etc. I opted for chicken, chana masala, and saag, to which I added pickled onions (delicious and a must) and arugula. I was passing through Westfield when I asked for recommendations for food. I am so glad someone gave me an idea to look for tacos because this Indian/Mexican place popped up first on yelp. The ambiance is quite cozy and modern. The food tasted amazing. I was recommended the Kati roll by the guy at the register and I didn't know what to get. We happened to be passing through Westfield today and stopped in at this spot I'd read about months ago (pre opening) and promptly forgotten about. Overall, the experience was great with just a couple bumps, which may be attributable to two months in business We both had bowls, and loved the array of customizations. Two vegetarians, one had paneer, the other sofritas (tofu). Problem one: the tofu needed to be made to order, prompting a delay of about ten minutes in the prep of one bowl. We were encouraged to get naan at the register. Problem 2, the naan had to be made to order. That took about 15 minutes. Person 1 was eating her paneer for ten minutes before person 2 sat down with her sofritas bowl, and, thanks to the cool toppings and passage of time, both dishes were cold and mostly gone before the naan appeared. That said, aside from these wrinkles, the food was very good and such a creative idea--blending two of the greatest cuisines on earth!! The tofu itself didn't have a ton of flavor, but the butter sauce more than made up for it!! Add pickled onions, jalapeños, pico, and some of their awesome sauces, and, well, it's amazing (imagine Chipotle and Cava having a baby that is three quarters Indian, one quarter Mexican. Such a cool idea!). If the naan could somehow be fired before the rest of the food was compiled, that would be one way to ensure things move more smoothly. Checking with the party about their protein options would be another to smooth operation (ie, let's wait a minute to start putting the bowls together because the sofritas is going to take ten minutes). For close to $60 for two bowls, two drinks, and two naan (we only needed one, by the way!), the experience would have been much improved if we could have eaten together and enjoyed the naan while our food was hot. That said, we'll definitely try again when we are near Westfield!! read more
