After over 5 years I decided to come back. What a huge rip off. Ordered unlimited tacos dinner, their ad says 1.5 hour and the waitress told us 1 hour. It's okay though the food still has no flavor. Chorizo tacos taste like chef boyardee, chicken ones are chewy and over cooked, the pork chorizo is greasy, the port ones taste like canned tuna fish. If it was a cheap quick meal it would be one thing but the average taco is $2.5 -3 and paying $21 for probably the worst tacos of my life (and a $10 surcharge for left tuna fish tasting tacos) We were the only ones in the place and our food sat on the cash register counter longer than it took for them to cook it. read more

So we came here because one of my brothers wanted to come here for his bday. He wanted Mexican Located in Garwood. There is a small parking lot for the building . Otherwise it is street parking We were seated right away. Inside was simple but decorated nicely. Staff greeted us immediately and were friendly. Our waitress was great. Young but very personable and attentive. It's a BYOB. No alcohol but they had juices and soda. Complimentary Salsa and chips were standard - nothing too amazing. Guacamole appetizer did not seem freshly made. I would bet that it was refrigerated guacamole since it was not made in front of us and had that refrigerated guacamole taste. That was my only gripe really I was nervous about the entrees after the guacamole but then I was pleasantly surprised on how tasty all the entrees were. I had the Enchiladas with chipotle chicken- came with large amount of rice and refried pinto beans. The green sauce was delicious Others had the Fundido with chicken, the baked steak chimichanga, the mar y Tierra and the churrasco asado. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. I tried them all and they were good! The churrasco steak especially was marinated very well! Though it may not look like much from the outside, being in a tiny strip mall in an industrial area, once you get inside, you'll find friendly decor, and extensive menu, and flavorful food. My go-to here for years has been the baked chimichanga- though I would probably classify it more as a sauced burrito as it doesn't have the signature crispy exterior of a chimichanga. Stuffed with flavorful ingredients though. If you order a more substantial entree, it'll come with a starter salad; you also get free chips and salsa, so you may not need to get an appetizer. Portions are huge, so expect to take a doggie bag for lunch tomorrow. This place seems to have a robust takeout business. No alcohol served, but might be BYOB. read more

My wife and I walked into Grill Creations at about 1:30 this afternoon, April 18, 2024. We don't go to lunch very often, so this was a treat, for both of us. We had been here about a year ago and my wife enjoyed it, so we decided to re-visit. The young lady who greeted us when we entered, was very friendly. More than likely, since there was only one other customer in the restaurant, she needed someone to talk to. She said, "Sit anywhere you like," we found a booth in the back. Her service was immediate, chips and salsa were on the table in the blink of an eye! We were given menus and told, she would return in a few minutes to take our order. When she returned my wife ordered the two items we decided on, Queso Fundido with Chorizo and Avocado Bravo, also two Cokes. Let's get back to the Chips and Salsa for a moment. Other reviews on this page made mention of the Chips. Their negative comments were somewhat understated. These Chips had the equivalency to thick packing cardboard, deep fried to a well beyond, dark brown. I would have preferred 7-11 bagged Chips by far! The Salsa was nothing more than a small, black plastic container that had a smokey-like dark red, watery substance in it. No taste other than nuked smokey water....Mmmm Good! And I asked the waitress for some hot sauce for the chips. Figuring it was a Mexican restaurant, I expected a small bowl of spicy sauce. Not a chance, she brought us a bottle of hot sauce. The waitress delivered one small salad, which I assumed came with one of our ordered items. The dressing was a type of "Oil and Vinegar". For some reason, the Vinegar was missing. Two bites of that and we both were done with the salad course. Shortly thereafter, the young lady brought us our two menu items, a clean plate for each of us, and asked if there was anything else she could get us. She could not have been more friendly. Our Avocado Bravo and Queso Fundido with Chorizo were delivered. The Avocado dish was nothing more than an avocado cut in half, two peppers, not jalapeno peppers as the menu stated, and again, a liquidy brown substance was sparingly poured on top. Tasteless to say the least! The Queso Fundido was next. If you were a Cheeze-Wiz fan, you would have been disappointed! A watery, yellow, Cheeze-Wizzy type of gravy with chopped something in it. It did not taste like any Chorizo my wife or I have ever had. Center stage on the plate was yellow rice, prepared to perfection. And finally, what I assumed was re-fried beans, once again a liquid of unknown origin. If I had only ordered Yellow rice this would have been a perfect Mexican lunch. To end this review, I would never return to Grill Creations "EVER" again! This disaster cost $42.01. I gave the gal who served us $5.91, 15% of the bill. There was no point in taking this mess out on the waitress, she assisted us with what she could. I also saw no reason to fight with whoever was in the back as this must be a common issue at Grill Creations. I apologize for not taking photos, I needed to get out of there ASAP. Decent Mexican in a comfortable spot in Garwood. In the Westfield area, there aren't a ton of Mexican restaurants so I've been meaning to check this place out for a while. They give out a coupons in the mail but unfortunately none are good on the weekend. The vibe inside is okay - a lot of tables, minimal decor, a TV in the corner - seems sort of like a quick casual spot. They do alot of takeout so there is a designated spot for that. Chips and spicy salsa to start - very good crispy chips. The menu is massive and has a separate spot for some veggie/vegan options and gluten free options which was nice. Literally everything you could think of was there (tacos, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, fish dishes, etc.) My only critique was that alot of the main dishes like enchiladas and mole poblano don't have veggie options. We started with the beef nachos ($10.95) with guac (extra charge) which was delicious. A healthy helping of toppings which I loved. I got the veggie chimichanga ($9.75) which was massive. Me and my friend after having food from here before decided to go in today and get some soup and chips. Looking at the prices of these items and based on our previous experience, we expected to be getting quality food. When ringing up my order of 1 tortilla soup and chips my total equaled out to 18 dollars and some change....for soup....and chips... meanwhile my friends order or the same soup came out to be around 6 dollars. COVID review: what excellent service!!! It's nice to see how businesses can thrive, even during a pandemic. These guys did a fabulous job on keeping things clean. They hand you back your credit card in a napkin and it seems that it was disinfected too. As for the food: outstanding. The chimichanga was a true gut buster though lol. Only able to eat half, but it'll make for delish leftovers! All of the flavors came together in perfect harmony. The plantains are exactly what you expect/want. The churros were a little strange...they were stuffed with something: condensed milk? It wasn't advertised and caught me off guard, but they were still pretty good. Came here on a Tuesday night about 1 hour before closing. There was no one seated in the restaurant with the exception of 2 people waiting for a pickup order. I sat down in a booth with my friend, and the seat cushion was uneven and made it feel bumpy.. The menu: So many options it's actually overwhelming- even for me as a vegetarian! There is a vegetarian section on the menu that includes both vegetarian and vegan options! The food: We were given complementary chips and salsa to start. I loved that the salsa was warmed and not too sweet or spicy. I then ordered the vegan chimichanga, but added sour cream and cheese because I wanted the chimichanga with the cilantro sauce (the vegetarian chimichanga comes with tomato based sauce while the vegan chimichanga comes with cilantro based sauce). The chimichanga had black beans and white rice, and the chimichanga sauce was, as stated, made of a green cilantro sauce. The chimichanga was so huge I could only eat half! We just googled and went here for lunch. First of all the ambiance was great. We went for brunch around 11:45 am. He smilingly welcomed us and asked us to sit anywhere we like! In the midst of a total kitchen renovation. Been eating out for 2 months. Costing me a small fortune. Drove by this place a million times. Exhausted most of the eateries in the area and spent a ton of money at Chipotles and many other Mexican eateries. Decided to give this place a shot after reading their reviews and menu on Yelp. Ordered the Mexican chicken bowl and chips with salsa. I'm here to say that I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CHIPOTLE AGAIN. My wife and I shared the order and were overwhelmed with oral sensations from the freshness of the ingredients and flavors. I said to myself,,,,,,,,,self, you could have been eating like this for the last 2 months. What a bummer. Anyways, I plan on exploring the menu and dropping all the other eateries............. especially when I have a craving for Mexican foods. Also, I didn't eat there but I plan on doing so for the ambiance was very clean, appealing and welcoming. Just go there. The food is delicious. You'll never want to eat or order from another Mexican eatery again. Note: the salsa chips were in a brown paper bag that was saturated with grease. I asked about what grease the chips were fried in. We come here fairly often for lunch. The food is always consistently delicious. This is one of the few places that we frequent. We started going here when they first opened. It was fantastic in the beginning. They had a great, inexpensive lunch menu. I would have given 5 stars then (I actually started a review in the beginning of 2018 where I gave 5 but never finished it - sorry Yelp gods!). Lately though.. watch out for extra charges/ nickle and diming. Sometimes they ask if you want something and it sounds like it's included, but it actually doubles the price. They also charge what I feel to be a lot of money for substitutions - lettuce instead of rice, brown instead of white, stuff like that. They also don't warn you if that's what you would like to do. It may not be necessary, but it's the right thing to do as a restaurant. The servers should advise people that the price is going to increase a significant amount. I have also noticed that they stopped handing out the lunch menu unless you ask for it. The restaurant business is tough, but it's also no reason to be shady with customers. It's a lot worse to find out after the fact when looking at the bill. Most of us are still okay going but some of us are disgusted and turned off by these practices. Would you rather tell us it will $5 more for lettuce instead of rice when we're ordering and have someone deny it and "lose" a $5 opportunity, or slip it in the bill hoping we don't notice and lose out on weeks of $100 checks? I don't know, it doesn't make much sense. That being said, the food is good. It's consistent. I do enjoy it. Just hate having to be on alert. read more

To begin I'll state that I am a 20 plus yr restaurant manager. I can fully appreciate the frustration when you feel that you've prepared an order 100% correctly but somehow something was wrong or missing. Living in Garwood we decided to give Grill Creations a try, as it was a restaurant right around the corner from us. We ordered around 73 dollars worth of food and I picked the food at the given preparation time. I didn't check the order at the restaurant which I now see was my error. I get home and unpack the order and the picture that I took shows you what we received. I intended to order their black bean soup but accidentally ordered their tortilla soup my mistake. I called the restaurant to inquire as to what happened still thinking I ordered correctly. The person I spoke to was able to figure out out that I did indeed order a tortilla soup. Now that's no big deal I immediately said that was my mistake, although for a 5 dollar soup the portion was pretty pathetic as you can see. We ordered two of their chimichongas with a buy one half off the second discount. We only received one of them as you can clearly see in the photo. I ask the person where was the other item and he asks me are you sure you didn't receive it, so I ask for a brief hold to check my truck to see if it fell out of the bag. I checked my truck and the other item was not there so I tell him and he puts me on a brief hold. Now this is where things start going south. He gets back on and begins to dispute my claims saying oh the chef assured me that your order went out correctly and that you should have your whole order! Huh??!! So essentially you're calling me a liar and I just hid the food and took that picture in order to scam them into making us a free item?? I work extremely hard for my money and I am no thief so hearing this is setting me off but I remained calm and explained that in fact an item was missing. We go back and forth for a bit but eventually he says you can come to the restaurant for the missing item. I get there and he hands me a bag with the missing item and sure enough he says oh that was our fault, whoever was making your order didn't make that item. 10 minutes ago he was adamant that the order went out correctly?! So of course he threw his staff under the bus instead of apologizing and taking responsibility for their mistakes. Bottomline after all that for 73 dollars we received meals so filled with rice and very little meat so that just added to the ridiculous experience thus far. We ordered their mole meatballs and for 19 dollars it was a container filled with rice, beans and 3 of the smallest meatballs ever?! Just so sad of a meal! In the end, this place clearly isn't delivering any kind of value for their food(which wasn't all that good) but worse off they give terrible service.
