went there with a buddy on a friday evening around 8:30pm. Place was deserted (when entering and when we finished). Ambiance was mediocre as its on a busy street. the menu was traditional, authentic mexican. I opted for 3 al pastor tacos and my friend got a mix. we also got some chips and Pico. we brought beers which was awesome as we were able to sit outside. The food was good, but not great. My pastor had great flavor, but was definitely dry. My friend's beef's tacos were quite good, but his chicken was quite dry. I am thinking that since we came late, we perhaps got things that weren't freshly made, hence the dryness. I am just super excited to have a restaurant that serves traditional mexican food not too far from where i live. So I will be returning with hope that the food will be better than what I had (which was still pretty good). Oh yeah - the salsas are very good.

Our hotel was gracious enough to let us use their breakfast area to set up the many trays of food buffet-style.

Picante - The Taste of Mexico was wonderful in accommodating us, in a very short period of time, and we are all so appreciative. My son's baseball team was playing in an large regional tournament nearby, and the parents decided to try and see if a team dinner was feasible. For any travel sports parents out there, you know how difficult this can be to plan, what with calling around to local unknown restaurants and trying to find out if they can seat 20+ people together with in a few hours' time. The efforts usually culminate with no luck on a restaurant, and the only option becoming a very large pizza order. We were all tired of pizza, and took a chance that Picante (which had great reviews on Yelp) could prepare enough food for 40 people and have it ready for pickup within a few hours. And boy did they come through! They worked up custom pricing for us (so we didn't have to order 40 separate meals), accommodated a few dietary restrictions, and packaged everything up separately (catering-style). I arrived back to the hotel with tons of food, and EVERYONE in our party enjoyed themselves! There was soooo much left over, and the kids and families will be able to enjoy fajitas and soft tacos for lunch today! Thank you so much Picante for working with us. Our team was able to enjoy a really wonderful time bonding and making connections with one another last night, and your delicious food took center stage in all of it. We cannot thank you enough.

If there was a way to give this place a negative 5 starts, I would! I ordered the steak with rice and beans, and my husband got the 3 taco combo. When the food arrived, it was packaged really badly and the steak/rice and beans were all mixed in -like a big ball of mush. We tried to give them food some dignity and plated them the best we could hoping that the great reviews are true, the the taste might redeem itself. The steak was over cooked and salty. Have you tried to eat dried cardboard? Ofcourse not- why would you eat cardboard??!! So why would anyone eat this steak Everything else had no salt. I have nothing else to say - such a shame because we just moved to the area and have been Looking forward to trying this place

So I tried take out... Came pretty late. Saturday night in Springfield is a ghost town except for this place and a pizza place. Parking lot next/behind to the shopping mall which is nice . Inside has some tables for in store dining. I tried the Chicken Enchiladas Rancheros which was pretty good for take out. Good portion. A little more expensive but it is Springfield. Sometimes taking stuff home is a lil different experience than dining in. I just didn't feel like dining in. Nonetheless I was satisfied with my meal. Couldn't finish it. Would come back again

Small homey place that has awesome food. Eating isn't a 5 because we didn't get chips and salsa other tables did but we didn't. Plus the tres leche wasn't that good. We had al pastor tacos They were 4/5 well marinated meat and solid quantities. The vegetarian burrito in medium sauce was amazing 5/5 good amount of veggies very fresh and the sauce was actually yummy and spicy. Chicken grilled mole 4/5 Chicken cooked well it was still juicy and the mole sauce was the best I have ever had. Came with rice and beans but I wasn't filled so that's why I am giving it a 4 not a 5. The tres leche Cake was a 2 out of 5 it was a big piece but it wasn't soft it was a bit hard and the flavors weren't the best. Over all great place we just felt separated because we didn't get chips like everyone else. But service was good overall.

Chorizo Nachos (takeout version)... mine, nachos!

Good on the weekend. For me, their Chorizo Nachos are their strongest offering piled high with standard fixings and slightly spicy chorizo (so important!). There's a big difference between a weekday vs. weekend order. For a weekday order, their mole sauce in the "Duo" I ordered of Chile Relleno and 2 Enchiladas was skimpy and lacked depth. Then their included side of rice was fluffy, but rather bland. Beans tasted okay but were pretty liquidy. The food quality's a lot better on the weekends when Lido, the owner who cooks, is in the kitchen. I wish he was there all the time.

I came here for lunch today and was so happy to have found Picante courtesy of a Yelp search. The restaurant was empty for lunch but we saw several people come pick up lunch to go. We were greeted by a friendly server who let us review menu and answered any questions we had. I think he may have been an owner but he was warm and welcoming. We started with a round of Mexican cokes in the glass bottle and the Nachos appetizer. The nachos which were delicious! It was a huge serving with ground beef, cheese, fresh salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. It was definitely plenty for two or three people. My husband ordered the wet steak burrito and I had the three taco combo- carne asada, carne enchilada, cecina. The "wet" burrito comes with your choice of sauce on top. My husband had the salsa verde. He was very happy with his meal as was I. I love that this place is an authentic Mexican restaurant. My tacos came on a soft corn taco FTW. It drives me crazy when restaurants use a soft flour shell and claim to be authentic. Everything was tasty and the service was good so we'll definitely be back!

Small casual place, decorated nicely with the traditional paper cut outs. My friend and I came in at 6:15 and the place was empty. The service was quick and we got our food within 10 minutes. I ordered the Carne Asada tacos and she got the Poblano burrito. Overall standard Mexican food nothing spectacular, and good for the price which is very reasonable. A great place to fulfill that craving for Mexican food.

Sooo good! Ranchero enchiladas

We needed a good authentic Mexican spot in Chatham boro. We ate on a Saturday night, busy but not too busy. We were seated right away, and were brought chips and salsa. Our drinks and food order came fast too. I ordered the chicken w mole enchiladas, it was a 10/10. My mouth was salivating from the flavors. The shrimp tacos were phenomenal also, corn tortillas are the way to go. Highly recommend. Very family friendly. The staff were very friendly as well! We will definitely come back to this gem. Can't believe it took us this long!

They serve it with the essentials: three or two tortillas per taco, lime, onion, and cilantro the four must-haves that make or break a true Mexican taco. This place gets it. The flavor was a solid 10/10, and the salsa on the side was just as perfect. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, especially the tomatoes you can tell they care about their ingredients. If I had one wish, it would be that they included chips and guacamole at the price that's the only thing keeping it from a perfect "real-world" score. But for authenticity and taste, it's unbeatable. 10/10 for flavor and genuine Mexican quality.

The bartender guided us on the drink options and offered suggestions, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the spicy margarita, which was delicious. We then were seated up stairs (the decor and ambiance of this place is beautiful!). They provide complimentary chips and salsa (my fav). The owner came by to apologize for the wait, which really wasn't terrible, and offered us two free tacos on the house. They were delicious! One chicken and one beef. We ordered the toca vez salad and plantain and coconut shrimp sushi (UNREAL!). Both were delicious but the plantain starter was heavenly. I ordered the scallop risotto. Delicious! My husband ordered the salmon and it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cooked to perfection!! The waitress knew we were celebrating and provided up to complimentary champagnes and ice cream. One of the best dining experiences. Can't wait to come back to try more!

Shrimp tacos - tender seasoned shrimp served on fresh corn tortillas and a spicy sauce on the side were excellent. The steaks - one medium rare ribeye was surprisingly lean, but tender and flavorful and was beautifully cooked. The filet ordered medium came somewhere between rare and medium rare. But it was tender as expected (it is prime filet after all). Asparagus side was phenomenal. Shoestring fries came out crisp but oddly room temp. Sea bass dish was good, but the menu description failed to adequately describe the ingredients. The steaks were typical upscale steakhouse, but I guess I was hoping for a more Mexican-inspired flare when it came to the sauces or sides. Service was well-coordinated and available and friendly and efficient. The area that was lacking was the knowledge of the food. No one knew what was in the sauce that accompanied the shrimp tacos. It's okay not to know perhaps, but say I don't know and go find out. Also requested information about the dishes was lacking, particularly when it came to food allergies which one person in our party had.
