While the food definitely tasted fresh, it was very bland. Wife got a chicken quesadilla and I got a carinta bowl. Had to keep adding hot sauce to the bowl just to get some flavor which is impressive considering the bowl came with sour cream, guac, and pico. Spent $40 for both foods and two cokes. As this area does not have many Mexican spots - I was so glad to see this spot open up to give some more choices for Mexican! We have ordered three times so far (via both seamless and Uber eats) and all 3 times, the food was delivered quickly. The first time - I got the Mula Shrimp tacos and split guacamole and chips with my husband who got a chicken burrito. We were both impressed with the quality and taste and thought the guacamole was really great. There was a chipotle cream sauce that came with the tacos was standout! The second time - I got the same dish along with a few other things that we split including nachos, beef tacos, and a cheese quesadilla. This time, it was sort of bland, didn't come with the promised side sauces, and had different toppings. Also the nachos were just shredded cheese and tomato thrown on chips. Major disappointment. Yet the third time, we ordered Tajin fish tacos, Mula beef tacos, and a cheese quesadilla and everything was well seasoned, flavorful, and delicious! Our new favorite restaurant to order Mexican. Seems very authentic and there is so much to choose from in their menu. Our favorites include their burrito bowls and nachos; they have a lot of variations for you to choose from. My picky eater child will even eat their cochinita pibil quesadilla (with no complaints) which is quite impressive when this child normally dislikes meat. read more

If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine coupled with a quick experience, Folklore is the stop! I love how their dishes are clean and simple - NOT smothered with cheese (unless you ask). Eye-catching colors, fresh ingredients and they are always pretty speedy! I also love the shells, which you can tell don't have all those extra, unnecessary, bad-for-you ingredients. On the rare occasion, a direction may be missed from an online order (whoops!), but they want to get it right and are quick to remedy it. Prices could be a bit lower but isn't that everywhere these days? Oy! I will pay the extra bucks for this consistent quality! read more

Oof. I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, they fell short at almost every turn. I stopped by this past Saturday around 4pm to place an order. Closed. Even though they had no indication on their website, social media, or even a message on their door stating the reason, since they should've been open according to their hours. Then today, I placed an order on the phone with a young gentleman at 5pm and was told there would be a 35 minute wait. Showed up at 5:35, and they said they had no record of my order. I showed them the call I placed to the correct number and they took my order again. That was another 30 more minutes of waiting. When the food was finally ready, they offered no discount, no means of apology whatsoever, beyond the poor young girl at the front saying that she was sorry personally. The manager was right there overhearing that I was upset and did nothing and offered no apology or reconciliation of his own. And honestly, the food was not worth the terrible service. They even got one of the meals wrong (we ordered the Apollo Asada Bowl and they gave us a Pollo Asada Burrito). The tacos were somewhat bland and mushy and the burrito was completely bland. The sole shining light was the Elote (Mexican street corn), which was yummy and buttery. We do not plan to return. Giving two stars instead of one since they're a new business. If only they were holding themselves more accountable for their obvious flaws in the process. read more

So excited to have them in Cranford! My friend and I called in an order for take out on Friday night and it was ready in about 30 minutes. They were doing a good job at taking COVID precautions. Paying with card was contactless and the food was labeled with my name for us to grab on the way out. The tacos were great and they have so many filling options. We got the mula chicken, pastor, and carnitas tacos. Pastor taco was a little dry but the side of salsa and guac that comes with it was just what it needed. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of salsa and chips that came with the order since places usually don't give too much. We ordered from this place recently and found the staff to be a bit brusk and surly. This may be due to a busy night, but still not the way to start a first impression. However, let's get into the food. My kids are picky and generally refer to Taco Bell as their point of reference for tacos and nachos etc. We ordered chicken tacos, beef tacos, quesadillas, and a bbq chicken burrito. The quesadillas were fine but plain. This is a common trend at this restaurant. The food is simple and rather plain, which can be refreshing and excellent when executed well. But, the tacos were poorly executed, whereas the burrito was large, but overall ho-hum. Let us discuss the tacos. There are two general options for toppings: cabbage or cilantro and onions. My kids rejected both concepts outright, but this is usual. After biting into the beef tacos I was repulsed by the flavoring and the taco imploded under the light weight of the meat filling. In case you were wondering, it was a corn tortilla that was soggy to the touch and palate. The chicken tacos were nothing special either, but more serviceable than the beef tacos. Their concept of small tacos was interesting, but the overall taste was bad on the beef and under-seasoned on the chicken tacos. Overall, this is not a good option if you seek Mexican food. I understand you may look to my previous mention of Taco Bell and scoff me off saying I know nothing. For reference, Tinga in Westfield is light years better on size, quality, and staffing, although we did not dine in but rather ordered out. Heed this review from a foodie who is very discerning and critical of good and poorly executed food. Suffice to say this was a lost Friday night on bad food. P.S. the parking is miserable so plan on parking further away to pick up food or risk temporarily parking in one of the other strip mall's other establishment's designated parking spots. read more

Had tacos here last week during the Cranford street soup event. We had a ticket for Folklore's churros (don't know if it's a regular menu item, but they were good) and we decided to get a plate of tacos too. We had steak tacos and I don't think we could've asked for a better representation of them, certainly not in our area. Taco Bell, which I don't mind occasionally, is the McDonalds of Mexican food. There is no comparison of their product to what Folklore is putting on a plate. The meat was seasoned perfectly and with care and for the negative reviews here to not "get" that is quite telling. I probably have tacos more than I'd like to admit, and Folklore is a go-to for me. I always order the Jamaica/Hibiscus drink and the Special Cheese Tacos with Carne Asada. Tip: if ordering this on DoorDash or UberEats make sure to write a note that you are ordering the special cheese tacos. I learned the hard way, more than once, that you'll get plain tacos if you don't specify. The carne asada is tasty and cheese is grilled to the tortilla, so good. I love the salsas it come with it too. I've also had the Churros and guacamole with chips.. all very good! They're local to me and have great tacos, what more could I want! read more

I was really hoping to love this place but it was just okay. The food was good overall but for the price and rave reviews I was expecting a bit more. The quesadilla seemed to be about the level of what I make at home. The tacos were good but again, not impressive. The shrimp for the tacos were tiny and a bit undercooked. I asked for my burrito with no beans or pico and instead it came with no beans, no pico, no cheese, no guac. So it was just chicken and A LOT of rice. We also tried the cheese tacos and the texture was chewy. But the flavors were great and the options are extensive. They're new so I'm hoping some things are still being worked on. Oh, the side of sour cream that comes with the burrito is very tiny. It's the size of a small plastic shot glass. It was the same for the side of guac. read more
