After working up an appetite from a 5 mile hike, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat. I got a watermelon cocktail. It was really delicious, hash-browns, bacon (which was cooked right), and the banana walnut pancakes. Service was attentive and good. The restaurant was quiet and very clean.
We got here a little before 9:00 a.m., and there were only about four other tables, so it wasn't busy at all. We were greeted and seated right away, then waited about five minutes before someone dropped off water without saying a word. After that, we sat for another 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention. We waved multiple times but were completely ignored. When a server finally came over, she was incredibly rude from the start. As soon as she walked away, we just looked at each other in shock, wondering why someone would treat customers that way. The food came out quickly and tasted fine, but nothing special. Throughout the meal, our server never checked on us once. When she brought the check, she was just as rude as she had been when she first greeted us. We also overheard another table complaining about an issue, and she was rude to them as well, so it definitely wasn't just us. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. The food simply isn't good enough to make up for such poor service. On top of that, the fabric-covered chairs were filthy and stained, which made the restaurant feel unclean. "Just give me the steal sign and I'll make home plate mine" (Jimmy Buffet) Home plate serves up breakfast, brunch, & lunch every day from 7 am until 2pm (M-F) or 3pm (weekends). We had breakfast there on Saturday and our experience was excellent. The dining room is large but there is enough space between the tables, so you don't feel cramped. The décor is striking, with a big floral backdrop at the entry and plenty of ornate light fixtures. You'll see all of your breakfast and lunch favorites on the menu, plus some unusual choices - Tater Tot Nachos, Smoked Salmon Benedict, Fried Chicken and Waffle Benedict, Potato-Carrot pancakes, Crab Omelet, Philly Cheesesteak Omelet, Oatmeal Pancakes, and a Bangkok Frittata to name a few. Our party of four went deep into the menu and selected Oatmeal Pancakes ($14.25), Banana Walnut Pancakes ($16.50), a Home Run Special ($19.25 for Two eggs with choice of Buttermilk Pancakes, Waffle, or French Toast, and a choice of meat; Bacon, Ham, Pork sausage links, Homemade chicken sausage patties, Spicy Andouille sausage, or Chicken apple sausage, and a Smoked Salmon Benedict ($23) with those intriguing Potato-Carrot Pancakes. Coffees were $5 each and tea was $4.25. (Welcome to San Francisco!) The Benedict and potato pancakes were mine and they were fantastic. A toasted English muffin with a pile of smoked salmon and two poached eggs, served with a small green salad and two rectangular Potato Carrot Pancake patties. I'm tellin' ya, this was one delicious breakfast.
Had a delicious brunch at Home Plate. Coffee is bottomless, lemonade was good too. Our server was attentive and explained the menu thoroughly. It was our first time here, I would definitely return again!
Parking was difficult to find. Got a table right away for a party of 5. It's a nice cozy place. We got the bottomless mimosas. They are pretty prompt to refill your glasses. But you can only get the orange juice mimosa for bottomless and none of the flavored ones. The mimosas are not watered down either Got the chicken and waffles Benedict was really yummy, it came with a side of "home fries" which are essentially potatoes. I just wish they gave syrup with it too Others got a burger, a fried chicken steak, and we also got the crispy French toast for the table The food was overall really good! Enjoyed our brunch!
the food was very tasty. i got the chicken fried steak and it was very crispy and savory and the gravy was creamy and decadent. definitely something that i would like to enjoy on a day that i'm not watching my calories or carbs. the wait staff was attentive and very friendly and they came by frequently to check in on us. the inside is very cozy and nice. in fact when you first walk in, there's a fireplace. it makes you feel kind of at home. very fitting for the restaurant name home plate. as for the cost i think it's fairly within the range of sf prices which generally are expensive. the chicken fried steak cost if i remember correctly around $20. it was pretty good.
We waited 20 min outside for a table. Sunday around 11 am. I guess they sat a whole bunch of people before us. There's a bench outside so that's good. Wrote our name on a sign in list. The place has changed so much before covid. Before it was dreary. Now they have comfy chairs and walls like you're in a house. Lots of staff. Our orders were taken within 5 min. Given water. Needed to ask for refills of coffee and water towards the middle of meal. We both had the mix and match Benedict. Mine was benedict with broccolini and smoked salmon (salty) with crispy hash brown and tiny cup of salad. Nicely done floretine. My co eater had crab cakes (delicious) and smoked salmon Benedict with potato pancakes. Added $2 more for crab cakes (delish). She said coffee was good ($5). Omelette looked hugh. The neighbor acai bowl looked hugh. I was so hungry I cleaned the plate. Condiments were at the table. Sunday means free meter parking. Woohoo.
Probably the best vanilla latte! Great menu choices, just make sure you order real maple syrup for a $1 extra and bring your own jam if you despise corn syrup jam. The rest is excellent.
Favorite breakfast spot on Lombard and in SF. Great service and delicious food. Really love the ambiance it's so relaxing, cozy chairs and love they play relaxing music. Definitely recommend Kids love the food and love the couple Lego sets they have on display! Super clean and well done interior and especially love around Christmas when they have their tree up
The fried avocados are like no other. They are incredibly good and paired perfectly with the citrus aioli. The phily omelette is a bit dry . The atmosphere makes me feels like I'm a middle aged woman .
Very cozy seating and great staff but the prices don't match the quantity or quality of food I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs on it and my wife had a waffle eggs sausage with a set of hash browns which cost extra. They also have crab cakes which were $16 for two of them but it was full of crab
We got here on a Saturday and there was a huge line as they maintain the reservations in an old school way of pen and paper :D Although we lost hopes of getting a seat, we managed to get one after waiting for about 15 minutes because a party of 2 infront of us left the queue. The interior ambiance is pleasant for a brunch spot and although the tables were really close to each other, we had a nice meal! The food tasted really really good - both the French toast and the oat meal with seasonal fruits were prepared fresh and plated so well! The service was also really good, as we got our request of changing tables accepted as we couldn't stand the overwhelming smell of the kitchen on the side closer to it. Would definitely come back for brunch if I am in the area!
My husband and I went on Saturday around 10am. We got lucky and we were seated immediately. I love the vibes inside, super homey. They took our order and food came out fast. I got the classic eggs Benedict and upgraded to mixed potato, instead of salad upgraded to fruits. The portions were huge and I think it's worth the price. I also got the orange juice, it was freshly squeezed. My husband got the meat lovers omelette with upgraded to mixed potato's. Bacon was on the saltier side. He said it could have used more cheese. He gave it a 8.5/10. Ice coffee was good. Our total bill was about $60ish. Overall pretty good breakfast place! read more
Me and the family had just finished participating in the annual San Francisco Aloha Run at Crissy Field at the Presidio. Everyone was hungry and I remembered a breakfast/brunch place that my family went to a few years ago. So I suggested it to our family that we head there for breakfast/brunch. It was like I remembered it. A very homey, warm atmosphere with friendly staff. Given it was a Sunday morning and the place was busy, we didn't have to wait long for a table for 5. The woman hostess who greeted and seated us was so friendly, and even noticed my son's medal that he was wearing after running the 5K in the SF Aloha Run. "Are you coming from the Aloha Run?" she asked. That kind of awareness with customers is a good indication of the kind of service that will be provided. Our waitstaff was friendly as well, asking us if we had any questions about the menu. My wife had a question about the item she was interested in ordering (Eggs Benedict) and he made a suggestion on what the popular choice was by customers. Our food came out quickly and hot, and our coffee cups constantly filled. We were pleasantly full with our meal choices. What I appreciate about Home Plate is their focus on the customer. The manager who was very friendly came by to ask if everything was okay and if we were enjoying our meals, and our waitstaff always checked in with us to see if we needed anything else. I looked around the restaurant and this was consistent at every table. I also had the feeling there were regulars around us as they were greeted with hugs and "good to see you!" from waitstaff. Next time, we will try lunch as they have good lunch selections as well. Whenever we are in SF, Home Plate will be our "go-to" for breakfast! read more

Note: Your complete party must be present to be sat at your table; Visiting San Francisco and husband read the reviews on this place. It does not disappoint. My husband and I shared the Croffle. I ordered the Greek frittata and he ordered the Spanish omelette. I wish there was an option for no sides to cut cost. The side salads, the bread (was too hard to eat) and side potatoes were wasted. The food flavoring is spectacular! Kudos to the chefs ! The inside is decorated very cute and cozy. read more

Came back here and had a much better experience! I got the crispy French toast and black tea. The French toast was extremely yummy and I'd come back for that again. It was perfectly crispy, flavorful and had fruits and nuts, and so aesthetic too. The service was really good and fast too. read more

Service was attentive and got to spend time catching up with friends for about an hour or two on a relaxed Sunday morning. Huevos rancheros was tasty and filling and the coffee got refilled twice. The remodel looks amazing like eating in someone's huge living room. Hopefully get to come here again. read more
The food is excellent. I had the home plate special it was delicious. My partner has thService was quick, we came on a Wednesday morning so there was no wait. The place is super cute. I found this place on Yelp and out of all the breakfast spots in San Francisco that we have tried this one is my favorite. They also have a cute set up in the front to take pictures. read more

I came as a walk-in with a relatively-large party and, surprisingly, was able to get seated within a few minutes. We came for their bottomless mimosas, and they were very accommodating for those of us who didn't want to drink, allowing some of us to participate in bottomless mimosas while others didn't. They were very attentive with replacing our mimosas when they got empty, and were very friendly. As for food, I got the chicken & waffles and had no complaints. read more

Good: - The ambiance is great, beautiful decor and it's a cute brunch place - The acai bowl was great - super beautiful plating and good portion size, I liked the acai blend they used too and there was a lot of fruit on the plate - The huevos rancheros was also delicious, the tortilla was plated in a cute way - The latte with oatmilk was so tasty! - Staff checked in us a lot Bad: - Takes forever for the food to come out! I swear we waited about 30 min for the food to get to us Overall enjoyed the experience though it was a lot of waiting. read more

The food was great, however if you want great customer service I would run the other way. Our waitress wouldn't respond to us asking simple questions like "how is your day" and seemed like we were a hassle for her to have to serve. For the ambiance you might have people next to you saying that a girl is a "green flag" because she's racist. If you want a pretentious attitude you should definitely go here. The food was great, it was just the customer service causing the rating. I have never server be so rude. read more

Brunch place in the Marina district along busy Lombard St. They have a nice interior with comfy ambience. I ordered the waffle and fried chicken steak. The steak was good but I didn't like the gravy that much. The waffle was just average tasting. read more

Service needs to improve. Had to flag down a waiter to get our order taken. Then once again flagged a waiter to see how much longer for our food after 45 minutes passed. Asked for our tab and to our surprise, the waiter added 20% because there was 6 people, when actually they only served 5 plates the sixth person was a 1 year old child who ate from my plate. Just reviewed the tab and it states 5. How rude of the waiter to take it upon herself to charge 20% tip! read more
So my family and I are here in San Francisco touring colleges for our youngest son, and we decided to check out Home Plate for breakfast! So as always, I'll begin with the good. Home Plate was a very nice a chilled spot that had a relaxing vibe while your dining. I loved how attentive everyone was. As a matter of fact as soon as we walked in, we were seated. When the waitress saw that I was running low on coffee, she was there to refill. This definitely put me in my happy place. Now for the food. The Pancakes and the French Toast I ordered, were a hit! So flavor, hot, and mouthwatering. Even while my oldest son was eating his pancakes, you could tell that the cook put a little love in making the pancakes. Now for the opportunities Home Plate should consider. My youngest son shared with us, that there was a review that said the waffles were just so so. I really think they should have listened. The waffles at Home Plate made Ego Waffles look amazing. And my Chicken Sausage Patty wasn't any better. The sausage was very dry and extremely hard. I would definitely be back when I'm back in the San Francisco area, but we won't be ordering the waffles or chicken sausage patties. read more

It feels like having brunch in a sunny breakfast room in a costal cottage furnished by RH. They have a bottom mimosa set up, and a menu with more than enough tempting options. Staff is attentive, polite, and truly helpful. read more
7:15am Friday: You know how people older than you always say everything in the city used to be better? Cleaner, cheaper, etc? Back in the day Sonny, I used to work 6am shift & my coworkers & I would make a 2 mile special trip for this cute little place with the homemade jam. Fast forward, the table has a pile of tiny Smuckers packs, just like a greasy spoon. However, ambiance now that of a fancy hotel where breakfast is included, not much personality. I ordered a classic bacon & eggs, with many side options. I chose potato pancakes. Big mistake. What are these 2 thin square things that I'm sure are stacked frozen in the kitchen. For two large pancakes it was weird to get about 2 teaspoons each of apple sauce & sour cream. Bacon & eggs just ok. Left the bland toast on my plate. They forgot to heat the teapot water. Anyway, super friendly wait staff, working hard. Didn't take long for food to arrive. Steady stream of tourists from the many Lombard motels. 8am the back room was packed. When paying my waiter disappeared with my credit card for a long time. Most places take your card at the table so it's never out of sight. Just a suggestion here. I can see the appeal of Home Plate if you're staying nearby or want a fancy place to take grandma. For me, I wouldn't return, so many better cafes & restaurants in San Francisco. I felt bad for the tourists, they could have taken a fun driverless car ride to an actual neighborhood establishment. read more
