Eddie's Cafe is located across the street for one of my girlfriend's and I favorite bars, and we told ourselves we'll eat there one day, and this past weekend the time finally came. We arrived around 11AM and it was a short wait. We took the first available which happened to be in the outdoor parklet. I'm not a huge breakfast person, so the lunch themed items were calling my name. I saw that they had a hamburger steak & onion, which is listed under Eddie's specials. It comes with rice, gravy, collard greens and a biscuit (no corn muffins). For $20+ , having (1) hamburger patty is low key disappointing. The entire plate was mostly rice with gravy, a decent sized portion collard greens, and a small burger patty with onions. The gravy and collard greens were tasty. The burger patty with the onions was edible after adding some salt and pepper. Knowing that wasn't enough I ended up ordering a side of hot link because I didn't want all that gravy rice to go to waste. My partner had the french toast and bacon. It was pretty middle of the road. Overall, while it wasn't my favorite, if you are looking for a no-frills, classic diner-style breakfast, Eddie's provides just that. read more

They've got classic diner breakfast combos, a bit pricey for what it is but that's SF prices. They also keep the line moving to get folks in, so know that they have a seating limit (I believe it was 45 min dining limit) so they'll be taking your order and serving you quick. We stopped by around 1 PM and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. The restaurant has such a cute, cozy atmosphere, and I loved the unique mug collection on display. We ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette with hash browns and homemade biscuits, along with the Three Pancakes + Two Eggs combo with chicken apple sausage. The omelette was packed with the perfect amount of meat and cheese, and the hash browns were very crispy. My favorite part of the meal was the homemade biscuits! They were fluffy, buttery, and not dry at all. The buttermilk pancakes were also light and fluffy. The chicken apple sausage was a bit sweeter than I personally prefer. Was looking for a brunch place after my doctor's appointment and stumbled upon Eddie's Cafe! Everything tasted SO perfect from the omelette to the hash brown to the waffle. I even finished the sourdough toast! I had some help from my husband but I normally would not eat so much for brunch! Everything about the omelette was so good! The hash brown was nice and crispy! The waffles had a nice crunch to it too! The restaurant was super busy so it took a while for the servers to get to us at times but all of them were super friendly! By far one of the worst dining experiences I've had. When we walked in, the server was already arguing with another customer about his order while we waited to be seated. She didn't acknowledge us until I said "excuse me," and even then barely moved so we could squeeze into a booth. My husband wanted to try this place since it's been around since 1974, but today was definitely not the day. The server kept correcting me when I ordered my Denver omelette with cheese and light onions. My husband asked for his French toast first -- she said okay. Didn't happen (see photo)! The busboy was great and brought delicious coffee, and the sourdough toast was amazing though I did not appreciate it getting their way before my food. But the food arrived 15 minutes later: my potatoes were cold and the eggs were lukewarm. When I told the server, she dismissed it, insisting it "just came from the kitchen snapping if I wanted her to warm my eggs up? In a microwave no thank you! The cook did send fresh hot hash browns, which I appreciated, but the rest of my plate was still cold. Her attitude completely killed my appetite. The only positives were the friendly busboy who kept my coffee filled and the nice man behind the counter. Otherwise, we won't be returning. Today was definitely not the experience my husband & I hoped for. this place only got two stars because of the busboy and the Cook behind the bar. She's supposed to be taking orders and delivering the food. She felt short there. So sorry guys! read more

If you want to experience a classic meal in San Francisco, Eddie's Cafe is the place! For 65 years this corner has been bustling. Shoutout to Ami for welcoming me in. The coffee mugs on the wall are an art piece. I ordered a hearty hot chocolate and it made me feel like a kid again. I ordered the pancakes, eggs, and hot links but I hear the hash-browns are amazing. Will have to try that next time. The memorabilia on the wall is admirable as well. The hot link had great flavor and this meal started my day on the right step. Locals love this spot, I met a retired legend that used to operate the cable cars years ago! I'm always greeted with a "welcome back!" and sometimes a hug! Some of the sides are a little pricey, but overall it's very reasonable. They have many, many options and a lot of combo plates to try. You can't go wrong with Eddie's Cafe! This is one of the few old school breakfast spots in the area so it can get busy on weekend mornings. We waited about 15 minutes for a table before opting to sit in the outside covered area for our party of 5. Once seated, the waitress took our order quickly and suggested we get a round of pancakes for the table - we did not regret this! I ordered the bacon and egg breakfast which comes with hashbrowns and a choice of biscuits or toast. Usually I'm hesitant to opt for biscuits but MAN were these fluffy and fresh! Hash browns and bacon were crisped to perfection and the sunny side egg was not an ounce overcooked. At the end of the meal, the owner was so kind and came out to greet us! The dining experience was significantly marred by poor customer service from the owner, who also served as the waitress and wore a white collared shirt. Upon expressing dissatisfaction with the salmon croquettes due to their excessive saltiness, the owner reacted unprofessionally and took offense. She became visibly upset and insisted that I should not order the dish again. Her reaction escalated to the point where she demanded the chef prepare another salmon croquette so she could personally taste it, repeating the request four times despite the chef's hesitation. This confrontational and defensive behavior overshadowed the meal and made the environment uncomfortable. Such a response to constructive feedback is unacceptable in hospitality. Given this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. For a short five-minute drive, the Pork Store on Haight offers a far superior dining experience with better food and customer service. read more

I ordered the spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelette and it came with hashbrowns. the hashbrowns are perfectly crispy on the outside. My partner had coffee and a traditional breakfast. I love that the coffee comes in a novelty mug. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Walking inside is like stepping back in time to the 80's or something- cute little booths and seating at the bar if you are dining solo. Love all the memorabilia and pictures hanging on the walls and oldschool jazzy music playing. Wasn't too busy for a sunday at lunchtime We sat in the booths, standard brunch/lunch menus,nice and clean, great friendly service. Got the bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast, and a side of pancakes with fruit to share. Food arrived pretty quick. It was much tastier than expected for a simple meal- i don't know what they did but the bacon and hashbrowns were so good, they really hit the spot. Pancakes and fruit were also a nice way to top off the meal, we were pretty hungry so scoffed the lot. They really do the simple foods right here. I was intrigued by the choice of salmon croquettes in addition to sausage, bacon, etc., but I was disappointed by a lack of flavor and substance. The eggs which I ordered over medium were well cooked, and the waffle was fine. All in all, most of my meal was a slightly elevated hotel continental breakfast, but for $16.99. The interior is simple and somewhat crowded. The booths are snug. The wait was about 5 minutes for a party of 2 around noon on Sunday, and there were parties of diners waiting when we left. This could explain the "hurry up" attitude from the wait staff. Despite the mediocrity, a few highlights were 1) nostalgic vibes and 2) unique mugs for the coffee. read more

On a Sunday morning I searched for a classic diner that I could pop into after a workout. Eddie's came up first with a solid rating. It was those classic red seats that got me. The inside was homey and evoked curiosity with the memorabilia on the walls. It was busy and I had to sit at the counter since I was alone (booths kept open for 2+) which was clean. The backs on the high stools are low, so be mindful if if you got back situations. Because it's such a small place, I think there's some pressure on the staff to keep their feet moving. I could see who I thought was the owner/manager sort of peering over the scene. Though he was participating in cleaning and organizing, which is a plus. I was asked if was ready to order three times within 45 seconds, only 2minutes after receiving the menu. I relented on the third time lol and just chose a basic 2 eggs, hash, etc. and a coffee, with the sourdough bread: came to $17.05. The food was nothing to write home about. A spot for a quick meal where if you're alone you're likely to be shoulder to shoulder to your community members haha. Now again, my score is a holistic one based on my total experience, and is in no way objectively judging the place itself. The vibe is cool but not the most unique 50s style I've seen, I felt rushed, and surveyed and that kinda swayed my experience. Food certainly isn't bad. read more

We got seated outside for two quickly around 11:30 am on a Saturday morning - the place isn't large so it gets pretty busy during prime brunch hours. I ordered the avocado, egg, and cheese sandwich + hashbrowns + French toast side to share. The prices seemed more moderate than the typical upscale brunch found in the city, and the sides menu has all the best brunch foods on it :) Sandwich: an idyllic diner breakfast sandwich. The bread was buttered/crunchy, and everything inside made for the salty, most satisfying bite. Pro tip - use the hash browns to add a potato layer into the sandwich itself. It was definitely falling apart but in the best way possible. Hash browns: everything you want from potatoes; crunchy / greasy on the outside, soft on the inside. French toast: soooo good, cinnamony, and fluffy without being eggy. Doesn't use a thick challah bread which made it lighter. The perfect brunch ~dessert~. The service was really fast and friendly; multiple servers (potentially the owner too) stopped by to greet us! Pro tip, if you need to use phone / Apple Pay, just let them know and they'll take you to the register at the end to pay on their machine. The service was impeccable. This cafe received an honorable award for its service but the people who works there make you feel right at home. The ambience for me was nostalgic. It reminded me of the café inside the old Walsworth when I had my first BLT ever. The bread was lightly toasted, bacon crispy and French fries perfect crisp crunch, but yet not crunchy like a potato chip. A new year comes around and Eddie's is still the same magical place. I love all the stickers on the backs of the booths, love the old music playing, love the people working here and calling hello when we walk in. And the food is still my favorite straightforward classic diner food in S.F. I want to try everything, but I just keep craving this burger. I have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and have been to Eddie's countless times. The food is not gourmet cuisine but it is comforting and familiar and reminds me of childhood diners we would go to. Today was an extremely disappointing experience. I called and asked for a simple grilled cheese and I was told I could only order a "ham and cheese". I asked if they could take off the ham and the person on the phone said "same price". I also ordered a small coffee. When I went to pick up my food, I received a tiny little sandwich and a cup of coffee for $14.85. They said the coffee was on the house so I imagine the ticket would have been at least $17. This is a sandwich made of generic white bread and processed American cheese. The cheese was barely melted. In the past, you used to be able to get the grilled cheese and it came with French fries for much less. I only wanted something simple but its high price tag was a real disappointment.
