I don't go to Mesa very often but know it's meant to be a mecca for good Korean food. I reached out to a Korean friend to ask his opinion and he said, "hands down Hodori". I have to agree. It was a friday night and it was hopping. Despite the crowd, we were seated pretty promptly. Our server was friendly and helped me order. Solid Korean spot in Mesa. Located in a small complex with other restaurants so there is ample parking. The space is pretty large and there was no wait for lunch on the weekend. We got a tofu soup, dolsot bibimbap, and a haemul pajeon. Everything was standard flavor wise and left nothing to be desired. Bibimbap quantity was a little lacking though as it wasn't filled completely, though that did make it easier to mix. The galbi they used in it was tender. Ordered takeout from here while I was in town. Got the special sundubu jjigae, which had beef, prawns, and mussels. It was still steaming hot when I got back to my hotel 15 minutes away and they packed the banchan so nicely, I was impressed. Everything tasted amazing, as well. The banchan were all fresh and delicious. It was quite busy when I picked up around 7pm on a Tuesday, but they cranked out my order quickly. Great spot, will definitely return. read more

We ate dinner around 6pm on a Tuesday and this place was busy. We were seated immediately and at the last table. The menu had a lot of choices and a lot sounded good. We ordered the Mushroom Soon Tofu with Beef ($13.95) (added ramen noodle for $1.50), the Sam Gyup Sal ($20.95), and the Chicken Bulgogi ($20.95). I don't see a lot of places that had Chicken Bulgogi so we ordered that. The staff were nice to us as well. The place was large and lighting was low. The food came out slowly. The Mushroom Soon Tofu with Beef was good and hot the spot on a chilly day. The Sam Gyup Sal (pork belly) was good and the Chicken Bulgogi was delicious with the char taste to it. I would recommend any of those if you can't decide on what to order. The food was good and we will be back in the future to try other food on the menu. read more

I visited Hodori and was enjoying my meal until I noticed something fall from the ceiling. To my dismay, it was a roach. This really put a damper on my experience. The seafood pancake and pork belly appetizers were good, but seeing a roach fall from above was pretty gross. We finished our meal quietly and left. Amazing Korean food with excellent portions. This establishment is not a buffet, but it's large enough to share. I recommend any of the soups/stews and the seafood tastes very fresh. One of my favorite Korean restaurants in AZ. Most comparable I found to KTown in LA. The kimchi fried rice is always great. I also really enjoy the kalbi and chicken bulgolgi. Their japchae is the best I've ever had. Their beef bulgolgi is a bit hit or miss. I've had it be amazing and then last time it was dry and not flavored as well. Hodori is one of my absolute favorites, I've been coming here for years. Their kimchi stew is my favorite, because it's filled with rice cakes, pork belly, and tofu. That being said, they do have their faults. Mainly prices! If you've been going as long as I have, you been able to watch the prices jump astronomically high while the portions get smaller. When I first started, it was around $14 for my serving of jjigae. Now it's $19 for half the amount of soup. We do still get free sides and a serving of rice, so I still justify buying it every now and then, but I don't get it nearly as much as I used to. Their grilled pork belly is also phenomenal, but again, price. It's past the 20's now. read more

TLDR: I have been to Hodori more times than I can count on two hands. The reason I keep coming back is because the dishes are always consistent, quick, and taste like home. I am a firm believer of good banchan=good Korean food, and Hodori's banchan easily exceeds my expectations (every time). The kimchi is not too fermented, which I am a huge fan of. My all-time favorite is their braised potatoes, which are perfectly braised and seasoned. I can ramble on about their other banchan, but let's talk about the main dishes. Galbi- a bit on the sweeter side, but bearable. The dish is served in a cast iron and the meat is resting on a bed of thinly sliced onions. I fw the onions heavy (adds a depth of flavor). You should expect around 11 pieces of galbi and they are pretty thick. The meat pairs nicely with the Hodori tofu soup and kimchi. I am also a huge fan of the slight char on the galbi. Seafood Pancake- fried to perfection every time. The batter is not too thick, which allows the edges to crisp. This dish is served with a side of sweet/tangy soy sauce. Hodori Special Soon Tofu Soup- I typically don't order soups at restaurants, because it is usually too salty, but mannnnnnnnnnn this soup is not salty at all. This soup comes with bits of beef, soft tofu, 2 shrimps (one of them is dried, probably used for flavoring), and some clams. In terms of spice level, this soup is pretty mild, with an option of adjusting spice level. You also have the option of cracking an egg over it. Good soup, listen to me and order it. read more

Went during the weekend at dinner time, so of course it was going to be packed; we waited about 30 minutes before being seated (part of 2). Place was PACKED. Upon being seated, our server told us the wait for our food was going to be another 45 minutes, due to their tickets being backed up. This warning would have been nicer to hear before we were seated, so we can decide if we want to stay or not. The food was average; not the best but certainly not the worst we've ever had. You can tell by the inside of the restaurant, that they focus on investing more money into the food vs the looks. Many light bulbs were burnt out and the decor is random. I personally don't give 2 sh!ts on what it looks like, as long as the food and health standards are good. As for the service - sub par. Our server took our orders and that was the last we saw of him. I don't need people pestering me while I eat, but he never brought out our drinks we ordered and never once refilled our waters or provided something for us to refill ourselves.
