Huge portions, tasty and fresh! The service was friendly but do keep in mind they get busy fast! The place was cute, clean and a different set up outside. The mead flights are great!

I used to come here about 20 years ago with my sister. I can't believe it's been that long. Not sure why it took me so long to come back, but I sure am glad that I did. Food: all of the food was simply amazing! The burger was top-notch, made fresh and made the perfection. The real winner here is the wings. Unbelievable. They should be known for their wings. These wings are so good. They don't even need any type of sauce. These are some of the best fried chicken wings I've ever taste. The seasoning they put on these wings along with the crispy crunch my god this is a very special wing. If you like wings, you must come back here to try their wings. I'm telling you right now. This is one of the best wings I've had ever. All of the appetizers were amazing. We got some stuffed jalapeño poppers, which were simply. Along with some shrimp eggrolls. Everything on the menu was good. The service was great. Our waitress was very nice and very helpful. She's the one that recommended the wings. The outdoor seating is absolutely amazing . The indoor seating is cool as well. We enjoyed all of their food and will definitely come back ASAP. Once again, I can't believe it's been 20 years, but I'll tell you what this is gonna be in rotation for us . Easy five star review.

I know absolutely nothing about Lord of The Rings or The Hobbit, but came for a catch-up lunch with the lab! Their menu is pretty extensive so I decided to just get a fruit salad since I've been craving fruits,,,, super delicious!! It consisted of cut up kiwis, cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes, and bananas- all combined in greek yogurt with chopped almonds and coconuts shavings. I also substituted the honey for agave and overall the plate was super yummy and simple. :)

We visited this cute little spot when we were in Houston visiting friends. It is a must for Tolkien fans. The menu items are all cleverly named for characters from the series. We waited half an hour for a table during a holiday Monday at lunchtime. The service was friendly. I ordered a delicious fruit salad, the hub had the Uruk fries, and our friends split a large lamb burger. I'm not sure I would need to return, but it was a fun outing.

The food was amazing! I took the Morgoth challenge and it was worth every penny! The mead selection was mind blowing. The ambiance was inviting and allowed me to enjoy my food more. The service was lacking a bit. I understand that they were short staffed and they were training, but they could have taken a bit more concern and checked more to ensure I was good. But they were very friendly.

The atmosphere was awesome, the food was fabulous we shared the world renowned curry chicken salad sandwich. Enough food to share, Very good. Our server was amazing, the drinks were great mango smoothie and the green cucumber drink was amazing. Everyone should go experience this restaurant

I ate here way back in the 70's when it was strictly vegan and it was great, and i've never been vegan. Now they cater to everyone. Even better! My wife and I decided to try the beef and chicken fajitas with lots of grilled bell peppers and onions and a side plate of rice, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, pico de gallo and black beans. I picked flour tortillas to go with these goodies. We were amazed at how good this was and plentiful. I had to get an a la carte shredded chicken enchilada with mole sauce...this was another 5 star menu item. We shared a glass of Eureka Heights Buckle Bunny beer...yum! We'll be back and I won't take as long this time. Great service by Gabe, he made us feel welcome.

Came here for a friend that is a big LOTR fan - he seemed to enjoy the space! He was mainly appreciating this display case of a bunch of LOTR figures and trinkets when you walk in the front. This place was hopping on a Sunday afternoon even though it was close to 2pm. Even so, we were seated in about 10 minutes and service felt timely. The menu is a lot to take in - I found myself needing to read everything because so many items are proper nouns/character names that have no obvious correlation to the food item. We ended up going with the classic Dwalin and the Balrog Burger. Also not pictured are the shrimp rolls. The shrimp rolls reminded me of a crab rangoon, but shrimp. We thought it was a little odd that there's just a pile of raw, shredded carrots that comes with the rolls. The Dwalin is supposedly an award winner, according to the menu, so we had to try it. I personally think the concept is not quite my taste, but my friend enjoyed it. We also got the Balrog Burger which is an impressive sight to see! I enjoyed that one much more, though, I had to deconstruct it to eat it because it was so massive. I think overall the food is decent, and the portions are massive. I think food is 3/5, value is 4/5, and I'll just round up on the stars for the theme and uniqueness of this place. Definitely open to coming back and sharing the Morgoth Burger with a couple friends! Free parking in the lot! I think they only accept reservations for parties larger than 6.

Honestly, fairly disappointed. I've heard so many good things about this place and truly it was lacking in so many things. The patio was cute , had us excited and confirming our choice to try for the evening. No one inside at all, but some on the patio. We had queso, the Caesar burger and the Grouper burger. Onion rings & fries aren't homemade, mediocre at best. Sad simply because we asked if they were handmade in house and were told they were. Caesar burger was kind of just meh, nothing special. Grouper burger the same. The music was really throwing us off on the atmosphere and vibes because it was a mix of new songs playing. Felt like they would play more into the hobbit theme but was left with the feeling of missing something. Our waitress was okay but overall also not helpful. Ordered drinks, brought out waters. Received our apps, asked for drinks again & didn't get them until thirty minutes in when we got our entrees. Non alcoholic, soda fountain drink....but not an issue. We asked for ketchup, waited until almost through with our food before bringing. Paid and asked for receipt, never received it even with waiting another ten minutes and asking again.

If you're looking for an upscale place with white linen napkins and waiters in black tie then this is not your joint. If you love an old school Hobbit themed menu and staff that have pointed ears and are very friendly then this is your vibe! They were very nice and did their best to absolutely help all of the diners on a Saturday evening to be seated and served as quickly as possible. While we were there for a little longer than we normally would be, that just gave us more time to take in the scenery, and chit chat amongst ourselves. Unfortunately with the gemrification of this area I cannot imagine that these little restaurants will last more than another 5 years so do everyone a favor and go get yourself a great carnivore or vegan burger today!

I've been wanting to try this place since I moved to Houston. I did not regret coming in today for brunch time. 51 years serving food back up this restaurant, decorated for the fans and lovers of the hobbit/ Lord of The Rings. Love the decoration, and the ambience. I got there around 11am and it wasn't full, sat inside next to a cute little windows, I ordered the DWALIN sandwich (curry chicken breast with grapes amd almonds) there's something about the sweet and savory mixed that gave me thanksgiving sandwich memories it was absolutely amazing and must I say HUGE portion; it comes with a side so I got the Uruk Fries (chorizo queso and jalapeños) MAN those Uruk Hai know about food ;D Service was quick and staff helpful and kind, by the time I was leaving the place started packing up around lunchtime (12-1pm). The menu is so diverse and they have multiple vegetarian options that even if you're not you'll fell tempted to try. Need to come back for the happy hour, and to try the meads and beers! ****** DON'T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR COFFEE FROM THE MINES OF MORIA BELIEVE ME AFTER YOU TRY IT YOU'LL FEEL READY TO DEFEAT ANY BALROG ******

    We enjoyed the Mead flight!

I went with a friend to enjoy the beautiful spring like weather. Really cool place with a lot of character! Great food options for vegan and vegetarian foodies! Worth stopping by and would definitely go back!

I really enjoyed Blue Nile! This was my first time trying Ethiopian cuisine…read more Came with a couple friends and we shared the honey tea (aka tej - not listed on the menu but you can ask your server for it), yebeg tibs (lamb), doro wot (chicken), and sides of collard greens and cabbage, as well as the meat and vegetarian sambusa. Our food also came with injera. Everything was really tasty; the chicken was tender and the lamb had a nice kick to it (we got the medium spice level). The honey tea was what really won me over. It was sweet and had a roasted flavor that reminded me of brown rice/genmaicha tea. I ended up buying a bottle of it to take home. Our server was also very nice and helpful! There is an attached parking lot to the side. We came around 7:30pm on a Monday and it was quite empty. The interior is very spacious and cozy feeling.

Ah man... where do I even begin?…read more We arrived around 8:05 PM, and our order was taken right away. We ordered 4 beef sambusas and 1 vegetable sambusa as appetizers. After 10 minutes, nothing. Another 10 minutes passed, still nothing. The restaurant wasn't even busy, just one family there before us. We finally got our appetizers at 8:28 PM, and at that point we still hadn't received our entrees. Another 10 minutes went by with no food. We tried to be patient, but we were really hungry and had driven all the way from Katy for this. My mom was fasting, and we were expecting a nice dinner, but the experience was honestly disappointing. Our entrees didn't arrive until 8:48 PM. We ordered the lamb injera, and it was honestly terrible. It had no seasoning, no salt, and just looked like it had some yellow coloring. The injera itself was cold, almost icy in some spots. On top of that, there were barely any meat pieces, maybe 4-5 small pieces, which is ridiculous for a dish that costs around $27-28. We also ordered a chicken dish, which was actually the only decent part of the meal. But it's definitely not worth coming here just for that. The prices here are high, and we were fine paying for good food. The problem was the long wait time and the poor quality. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

It's been about a decade since my last review of Govinda's shortly after they first opened so it's…read morehigh time that I finally update that review after being a repeat customer over that time. Lots of things changed but Govinda's largely stayed the same. The decor hasn't changed but there is some wear and tear on the walls. Still clean, food still reliably good and has the homemade taste. They change up the menu daily and now they have 3 all vegan menu days to the week: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Plus, weekdays have a themed specials that aren't necessarily Indian. They post their menus online but weekday menus are posted the day of on their menu Instagram "ghmenu". Weekend menus are typically posted on Thursday. They are still a buffet so service is minimal but it is pretty good but no frills. Unfortunately, they got rid of their salted lassi years ago so they only have mango lassi now along with mint lemonade for cold drinks. Price has gone up as well to around $18 (a little more for holidays and weekends) per person but that's to be expected. Carry out is $16.95 per meal (large take out container plus a soup, roti, salad, papadam, and dessert). You can opt of out of items but you'll still pay the same price. In the past decade, I still love their food but I can no longer eat as much to make it worth it to dine in so we've been getting take out (we took a brief break from buffets but I missed them so we went the take out route). One take out meal lasts me 2 meals at home so it's a no brainer (husband finishes the take out container in one sitting though). Plus, I have kids now and they definitely aren't good eaters so it didn't make sense for them to eat in. Over the last few months in Houston, we typically go once every 2-3 weeks because my picky kids absolutely love their saag paneer. I got them al a carte saag paneer ($10 for a half container, $5 for a half container of rice, $7 for a small container of an entree) until someone there suggested I just order an entree because it's the same price but you get more. And their plastic containers are limited. I started doing it but then one day, the main guy (manager?) wasn't happy since the big container was just rice, saag paneer, and maybe a little bit of dal makhani. I was a little miffed because if we ate in and all they ate was saag paneer, it would be okay. That aside, I noticed someone mentioned food allergies. The reason why I order Al a carte and segregate their take out container is because my youngest is allergic to wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, avocado, pineapple, and kiwi. Their food is usually labeled but I like asking to be sure. On days they serve something that contains nuts, we just don't go (unless it's only in the dessert). My kids usually like the same things and we only go on non-vegan days. The general consensus is vegan days' food tends to be spicier. My youngest is okay with spice, but my eldest who is super picky won't eat it if it's too spicy. Plus, I love their makai kofta. If I'm in town and I see they have makai kofta, we are THERE. However, I noticed that their menu isn't always set in stone. One day, they didn't have my favorites but we went because I didn't want to cook and THEY HAD MALAI KOFTA. I was so pleased. If you love potatoes, their batada vada is divine (but moderately spicy). I also enjoy the BBQ tofu but they usually only offer it on vegan days so I haven't had it in a long while. They have special menus on holidays but they're vegan so I have unfortunately never tried any holiday menus. We moved but when I'm in town, we make sure to drive up north to eat here at least once. We absolutely miss Govinda's and my kids ask for their beloved saag paneer even when we're not in Houston. I should ask if they can part with the recipe! Haha.... We ordered catering in 2024 for my eldest's birthday! Even the non-vegetarians enjoyed it and you get a lot of food for less than $500. You choose from certain dishes but it still covered many of my Govinda favorites, if not all. Honestly, we'd do it again just for fun with close friends and family and have leftovers for at least a week after splitting it up with everyone. Price has probably increased though.

The grounds of the temple is well manicured and neat with flowers. A big red sign read, "Govinda" was positioned so that I wouldn't miss it. As soon as I walked in at lunch time, the restaurant was damn near empty with only two families. The host immediately sat me at a table front of the buffet line. There was a strong lingering smell of pine-sol and Mr. Clean in the air. Of course, that indication told me that the restaurant was clean. The items on the buffet line was plenty, but limited. I got the rice, tofu curry, chaat marsala, and some vegetables. Everything except for the chaat was bland. It wasn't very easy to eat while the smell of cleaning supplies was in the air. It reminded me of sitting in a bucket of cleaning chemicals while eating a meal. The tofu curry tasted only like turmeric, but no salt or pepper or anything. The rice was super bland. The chaat marsala was very tasty and well seasoned. I finished off with desserts which both options were tasty. I hope to return to try their holiday menu, but I think today was a bad day for the cooks.

I'd heard some rave reviews from friends and decided to check this place out a few months ago, and went again today. The restaurant is a decent size with ample seating - booths and regular tables. Both times I've been, I've opted for the Vermicelli bowl with shrimp because it is just so good!! The noodles are light and there's a lovely light sauce to pour over them. There are a bunch of fresh greens and cucumbers that go so well with the bowl and make it feel light and refreshing. Now for the shrimp - they are seasoned oh so well and come out nice and crunchy!! These were the reason I decided not to change proteins on my second visit. The portion size is substantial and I've always had leftovers for another small meal. The staff are all friendly and helpful and came to clear out our table after we finished our portions. There's also self-serve to-go containers to box up your leftovers. Establisment was clean. Got the Caesar chicken salad Zeppelin. It could've been stuffed more but I did do pick up. Will be back to try more flavors.

I went here several months ago because my friend kept hyping up their version of a "spicy chicken…read morecaesar", and it was enough for me to place a to-go order and get up from my WFH desk to pick it up. I will say this flavor particularly was a 5/5 for me. It was exactly what I was looking for (carbs, spicy Caesar salad...not hard to please). However, I haven't found myself wanting to come back even though I drive past this area pretty frequently. If I did come back, I'd probably just order the same flavor again because it was that good. The Zeppelin is very filling though and kept me good for 2 meals, I just think nothing else on the menu appealed to me (other than the Spicy Tejano) enough to steer away from my go-to sandwich/bowl places if the craving for that type of food ever came. The staff were super friendly though and parking wasn't terrible. I can see why they chose the location since it is a great lunch spot for people in the area tbat want something quick but don't wanna run into the mall/opt for fast food drive thru.

A big part of the decades long success at Local Foods has been their commitment to consistency…read more Their casual setting with excellent service is one thing, but quality executed food that is simple and seasonal will always go a long way. Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

Fabulous!! I was told by my colleague friends that this place was awesome and perfect for someone…read morelike me who is now both dairy free and (mostly) gluten free. After meetings we met and had a long lunch sitting outside on one of the two lovely patios. It was comfortable on a beautiful day. The person who took the order was very friendly and so was the manager who came around to check on our meal. One friend had the Thai steak salad and I had the veggie burger made with quinoa, beets and other vegetables. Wow...is what I will say!!! It was so flavorful and the focaccia bun (not gluten free) was incredible! Plus the double cooked fries were delicious! Oh, the side potato salad and kale salad were also delicious! I look forward to being back there next time I'm in Houston!!
