Huge fan of Hoang Lan. My favorite BBH in the Seattle area. Have been going here since I was a child and I think about it on a monthly basis. The pork meatballs are the best I've had in BBH. They give a good amount of different kinds of meat and the soup is nice and flavorful. Service is super quick. Very casual spot, seating may feel a little crowded but I guess can be considered cozy. Would also recommend the banh bot loc. Loveee the chewy texture and flavors. Good spot if you're craving BBH!
Feel just like home. Warm bowl of hearty spicy broth in a small cozy shop. Fast and friendly workers. If I live here, I'd come here every week. Bonus point that's right by the Link station. Love it!
Hoang Lan has always been a special spot for me and my dad, it was his absolute favorite, and that alone keeps me coming back. Every visit feels a little nostalgic. I always go for the bún bò Huế, and it never misses. It's comforting, flavorful, and just hits the same every time. The service is simple and no-frills. You sit down, order, and your food comes out pretty quickly. The space is on the smaller side, so when it gets busy, don't be surprised if you're sharing a table with others. But honestly, that just adds to the charm. It's one of those places you go to for the food and the memories, not the frills.
I've never had bun bo hue before, but I'm definitely going to come back and have it again! My friend brought me out here for authentic Vietnamese food, and it definitely fit the bill. The tables are a bit cramped, and you sit next to other groups, but the food comes out fast and so tasty it's worth it. Come at off hours so you don't wait for too long - the restaurant was pretty full even coming after lunch time.
This is not a fancy spot by any means - come here for some authentic, comforting noodle soup. Every time I take the link past Othello I always see this spot and tell myself I need to try it. I finally got to do so! The space inside is small and cramped, and we were seated at a long table right next to some other people. I came with the goal of trying their bun bo hue, which has been recommended as the best in Seattle. They also have a few other menu options with the classic Vietnamese dishes. The bun bo hue came out nice and hot, with a side of fresh veggies. There was meatballs, beef slices, pork blood, pork feet, and thick rice noodles inside. The broth was absolute perfection - so well seasoned and paired with the noodles perfectly. I loved how chewy the noodles were and they were also super generous with the amount of meat. I'd definitely come back when craving that authentic bowl of noodles! Service was also really friendly :)
The best Bún Bò Huế in Seattle, hands down! I keep coming back for it. Plus, they offer fantastic traditional Huế cakes like Bánh Lọc and Bánh Nậm for takeout.
Cozy spot in sea tac area to get authentic viet noodles. Their bun bo hue very hearty and flavorful. Service was quick for an in and out lunch. They didn't ask for spice level and so it did come out a bit spicy but it was the perfect level of spiciness.
i recommend this place like it's my job. insanely good BBH. i haven't had much from the rest of the menu but what i have had was delicious. if you're looking for a perfect food day, take the light rail here (it's right outside othello station) and get BBH and a salty lime soda then hit Che Dessert next door. pretty small so if it's busy you may not get a seat, but the tables turn over quickly and i've never had an issue.
My grandpa took me here one time, so I knew it had to be good because he is a very picky man when it comes to Vietnamese restaurants. This was my second visit, and it is still great. Just across the street from the Othello Link Station, it is a perfect stop to or from the airport for a quick and hearty meal. It is a small restaurant, but it was pretty busy for a Friday lunch! We were seated immediately, and our server was really nice and gave us a big table because we had our luggage with us. It was a cold day, so I obviously had to order a warm, comforting bowl of pho. Which was a terrific choice because they did not skimp on the meats and the broth was full of flavor. Some FYIs - There is only a $1 difference between the small and large size for the noodle soup dishes! They serve hot tea instead of water, but I'm sure you can ask for water instead if that isn't your cup of tea. You will pay at the front when you are done, they won't bring you a check.
I was pretty excited to try this place for bún bò huế, but honestly, my experience was a bit underwhelming. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the delicious smell of pho broth, which definitely sets the mood. But then, when we sat down, the table had this wet mildew smell, likely from their towels, which was pretty off-putting. My bún (noodles) were overcooked, which is a letdown for me. While I appreciated that their bún bò huế included pig's feet (a nice touch), the broth itself was just okay--definitely not spicy at all. One good thing was they had fermented shrimp paste, which is not always available at every bún bò huế spot in Seattle, so that was a plus. However, my friend ordered a dry hủ tiếu entrée, and it was really disappointing--it just tasted like peanuty hoisin sauce, and didn't have that authentic Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang flavor at all. Overall, I don't think I'll be rushing back. Still on the hunt for a good BBH spot unfortunately.
Typical hole-in-the-wall mom/pop spot with great authentic Vietnamese food. Been here multiple times and it's consistently great. Bun Bo Hue is flavorful with a rich and meaty taste. Bun Rieu is on point. Cha lua (pork cake) is super tasty. Efficient service, can get jam packed on the weekends but the food usually comes out quickly. Parking lot nearby can be hard to navigate but it's worth the effort!
A hidden gam! If you're looking for delicious and well-priced Viet food, this is the place to go! I had their bun Bo hue and it was pretty good. For a large it was only $13! We had their bun rieu and it was pretty good as well. Try their shrimp rice ball if you're looking for a good appetite! The service here was pretty good. Servers were attentive and helpful and the food didn't take long to make. The ambiance of the restaurant is good. Authentic Vietnamese restaurant atmosphere. There's a decent amount of seating.
It's a small restaurant and certainly busy! I came to eat on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and all the tables were full. It's also likely going to be a communal dining experience if you've got a small group or if you are eating by yourself. I ordered the bun rieu and I'm pleased with it! I'd say the flavor was light, bordering on a little bland, and the meatballs had a spongy texture to it. It's a hectic spot with crowded seating and a busy environment but it's still a comforting spot for a good bowl of soup.

My good friend Dr WTPho turn me onto this place. He was spot on right! Hole in the wall with white bars but this family own restaurant has indeed the best Bun Bo Hue and other delicious Vietnamese cuisine dishes. The Bun Bo Hue here large is $8 so I recommend a large since it is only a buck more than a small bowl. The broth is soooo delicious and no need to add any hot sauce because it is already spicy which I love. Also an pig feet with their own pork balls made in house and tasty blood cake. You can switch the blood for meatballs or more porkballs if you can't handle the blood. Great lettuce add on and lime to make it so much better. It is located right in the plaza with plenty of parking. They only accept cash so bring cash. I just can't seem to order anything else since I always order the Bun Bo Hue. If you like authentic Vietnamese cuisine, you sure to love Hoang Lan and be sure to get the Bun Bo Hue! Highly Recommended! read more

This restaurant is so sketchy but in a strangely endearing way. First of all, it's on Martin Luther King Jr Way and that speaks for itself, and secondly, it's a literal hole-in-the-wall with pigeon feces decorating the parameters of the place. The only ingredient missing from this restaurant is like a banner with the list of written oaths created by the Chinese mafia. The first time I was here, we went through the back of the building and I thought I was walking in on some illegal drug trade. Consider my disappointment when I realized there was no such thing. I've always stood by my statement that hole-in-the-wall places serve up the best tasting food and Hoang Lan is no exception. A relatively small space with maybe a maximum capacity of, like, 30 people and by then, it'd feel cramped and dirty. This place is no nonsense, which I love. I think they expect customers to walk in and know what to do (as in, they are Asian) and so that sets the bar in serving exceptional Vietnamese dishes. You waste no time here. You walk in, seat yourself and help yourself to what you need, you order, and then pay. They don't care about how you are feeling that day nor do you have to feign interest in how they are doing. I had the Bun Bo Hue and Banh Bot Loc. Both solid, enjoyable dishes that were prepared and executed well. Neither of which can be described in a way that sounds appealing if I want to be as accurate as possible. The Bun Bo Hue is a poor man's soup; it's also not a soup for everyone. It's a semi-spicy, lemongrass-infused, rice noodle soup that has all the bits and ends from a pig and some beef. By bits and ends, I do really do bits and ends, like pork knuckles, congealed pig's blood, pork meatballs, and sliced beef. The subtleties of the broth is something that I pay attention to in that it needs to have the right balance between sour, salty, spicy, and sweet. Hoang Lan does it pretty well here but is it the best in Seattle? Not sure if I can place that label but it ranks as the best I have had out of 3-4 restaurants. Banh Bot Loc is, for a lack of better words, dried shrimp wrapped in a translucent, slimy sack. Is it pretty? Arguably not. The texture's pretty close to what you expect it to be but it tastes awesome especially with the dipping sauce. A pro-tip that I learned from my friend is to put some sambal oelek in it for that extra kick. A delightful, light appetizer and a pleasant break from your usual spring rolls. I would definitely come back again to try more stuff and would recommend to anyone looking for a good bowl of Bun Bo Hue. read more

Hoang Lan is a hole in a wall. There's limited seating and I'm not sure if they have public restrooms. The dishes seem pretty authentic compared to what you'd find in downtown. Bun bo hue - classic bun dish except they serve it with pork blood. I wasn't a huge fan, it was just a okay. Banh bot luc - I was excited to try this since it was a dish I've never seen before. 20 pieces might seem like a lot but they're all bite sized! They're actually sticky rice dumplings. I wasn't a huge fan of it due to the dried shrimp inside and some of the fillings had shells in it. I ended up taking apart the dumpling while I ate it which became a nuisance. Overall, I prefer rainier bbq down the road they have much more options and tastier dishes. P.S. It's cash only! read more
1. Limited seating. 2. Staff can seem kind of rude and stand-offish 3. Cash only 4. Food is decent. We ordered the hu tieu kho and the pork chop rice plate and they were alright. Something about the hu tiue kho was off. It had a bitter and sour taste to it and the pork chop rice plate was ok. 5. Overall I wouldn't come back. I'll stick to my authentic Vietnamese food here in SJ read more
Best Bun Bo Hue in Seattle. Period. This is an OG spot. Come here on a wet and cold Seattle day and warm up with a piping hot bowl of spicy bun bo hue. They keep it authentic, they'll throw that swine blood up in there. Hit it up lil bit of fish sauce, chili sauce, and chili oil in a separate bowl for dipping your pig knuckle. You're set. Hole-in-the-wall. No frills. Small. Don't come in here expecting good customer service or to ask questions like "is this gluten free?" "what is this, what is that?". Nah, you better come here with your knowledge game up and not look like a foo at this eatery. Come in, eat your bowl of noodles and pay with CASH. Easy peasy but some folks like to make it difficult for themselves. Only the MLK and soufend locals know about going through the back of the restaurant. Almost feels like you're walking to gangster territory where the Vietnamese bangers go to gamble and sharpen their knives. Only to be disappointed to see pots spewing out aromatics from hours of simmering. read more
Came here because of raving reviews for their bun bo hue, and not gonna lie... it's pretty good! Not the best I had but definitely in top 3. Bun Bo Hue - 4/5 : $9 Had a very strong broth with the right amount of spiciness. Their noodles were really good and not in bits and pieces like some places. Their beef shank could've been softer, it was tough to chew and so was their pork hock. But their meatballs were really good! Overall, bbh was on the saltier side which I don't really prefer but very good spice flavors Bun Rieu - 3.5/5 - $10 Yum! the soup was good, kinda was hoping for more tomato. this had random things in it like pork blood and shrimp inside it (don't know if that's traditional or not, i've never seen it in bun rieu before--- but not complaining, was nice surprise) But the noodles were bits and pieces and not long ones which was kinda annoying to eat. Glutinous dumplings with shrimp and meat 3.5/5 - $7 Kinda expensive for an appetizer but I can see the rave about it. Very chewy skin and inside had a perfect amount of shrimp and pork. There was not enough shallots and fried garlic on top though ): read more

The 5 stars is strictly for the food. This place is in the hood and you park in the back (through the Safeway and Bank of America parking lots) and go through the back entrance of the restaurant - you may feel like you're breaking in but it's a part of the experience. I've come here many times and not once does it disappoint. Hangover cures comes in many forms here but I stick to the spicy bun bo hue - warning it's sweat inducing. If I feel like something not as spicy I go for the amazing pho. The broth is so flavorful and milky. Probably my top pho place in WA. Last but not least always get the banh bot loc (the shrimp in the starchy wrap). I seriously love it here. For 2 small bowls of noodle soup and banh bot loc it's $20!!! How can you beat that? You'll be so stuffed for two people. Sure this place is super ghetto and in the ghetto but it's worth the bullet wound if you're in the area. read more
Bun bo hue and banh bot loc are great here! The banh bot loc has a satisfying chewy consistency and it's packed with lots of shrimpy flavor. It goes well with the dipping sauce.. I'm in love! Plus it's a great hand work out because sometimes they're difficult to eat with chopsticks lol... The bun bo hue is full of lots of different meats, and comes with their housemade meat balls which are very good. The broth is spicy but you might wanna ask for extra spicy (I personally tend to add more chili oil) and goes well with limes. The broth isnt as deep as it looks but it doesn't bother me since the whole meal itself is very heavy in meat. I feel as though if the broth is any deeper, the mineraly meatness would just be overwhelming. I find it balanced! The service is inconsistent. One woman in particular wasn't so kind to us and treated us different than her other customers. But this other younger woman and this man were very kind. Definitely a place to try for really good bun bo hue and banh bot loc... I hope you get good service! Bring cash! read more

This place is popular for their bun bo hue but I get the mi quang almost every time. Seriously my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle. It doesn't look desirable from the outside, you can totally walk by it and not think about eating there but once you try their food it's so addicting! The only soup they that I didn't like was their bun rieu because it was very fishy and made me nauseous. But other than that I cannot say anything bad about any other foods. Also, the staff are very nice people. They always accommodate to everything that I ask for and my food always come out the way I asked them to be. A lot of places that I've been to would usually forget things like no peanuts. And this place is always busy, no matter what time we go in, but I've never waited for more than a couple minutes for a table so it's never a problem. read more

Probably one of the best Bun Bo Hues in Seattle. The broth is deep and flavorful with a good amount of spiciness. They also give you lots of noodles, and a decent amount of meat, blood cake, and veggies. The pig foot could be cooked a little longer though; it's a little too hard still. The Hu tieu and various types of com tams are solid choices as well. The banh bot loc is good too, but beware of "eyes larger than your stomach." The owners are always really nice and friendly, but it's cash only. Pro tips - You can only get a large when ordering take out. Take out orders are typically ready in less than 5-10 mins. Park in the back by the Safeway and enter through the super sketchy and grimey handled back door, walk past the bathroom and into the dining area. Real hood shit. Rumor has it that the pho spot around the corner upstairs in the plaza is the sister of Hoang Lan's owner. They have similar tasting Bun Bo Hue and give you lots of veggies as well, so I alternate between Hoang Lan and that place. read more

This place is known for their bun bo hue. And there is no reason they shouldn't be. Their best bun bo hue is some of the best I've ever had! Their broth is perfectly seasoned and spiced, if you want more spice they accommodate with chili paste on the side. It has a nice variety of meat in the bowl which I like. It includes meatball, blood cake, brisket and pork knuckles with rice noodles. The vegetables they give you is cabbage, bean sprouts, some type of onion I believe, limes and jalapeños. I always ask for extra limes! I also tried their bun rieu and I didn't expect the broth to be so light! The tomato flavor is prominent but it's not a bad thing. It's served with vermicelli noodles, shrimp, crab and some type of meatball. It was my first time having bun rieu so I didn't have anything to compare it to but I thought it was good! The banh bot loc is so good too! It comes out warm and the fish sauce that is served with it is really good. Sometimes their service is sub-par. They won't pay much attention to you after you've ordered and sometimes I feel like I have to hunt someone down even when it's not busy. I would park in the plaza parking lot next to it because there's no street parking near there! read more

Amazing Bun Bo Hue! If you've never had it, it's a type of noodle soup that contains rice vermicelli and beef. Some people say it's similar to Pho, but BBH actually has a different taste. It is slightly spicier but flavorful, not like dumping sriracha into pho. It also has different ingredients such as pork hog and pork blood (if you're not a fan of these, you can ask them to take it out). Overall I would definitely come back if I'm in the area. read more

Bun bo hue! This is my favorite place to get Bun Bo Hue in Washington. This delicious bowl of soup is not hard to find on most pho restaurants menus but very rarely is it done well. For under 10$ Hoang Lan delivers a richly favored both which perfectly balances the spicy, sour and salty elements of this dish with a decent lemon grass punch. The noodles aren't over cooked and the cuts of meat where all delicious. As a bonus they also have banh bot loc which is actually fairly hard to find for under 10$ as well. As far as bang for your buck goes I would put this in my top ten in Washington and definitely worth visiting. read more

The Bun Bo Hue was amazing, the soup was perfectly seasoned and rich in flavor. The ingredients and noodles was plenty and perfectly match. Me and my husband are a big fan of bun Bo hue. We've tried almost all of the Bun bo hue in every vietnamese restaurant in town. I will have to say that the bun bo hue here is superrrr awesome! One day I invited my sister who doesn't like bun Bo hue to join us for lunch at hoang lan. Encouraged her to try the bun Bo hue here, and she loves it! Now, my sister comes here once or twice a week for a bowl of bun Bo hue. I had tried their pho beef and pho chicken here before. It was ok. But i would prefer to have pho elsewhere. read more
