Holy hell, ordered the pesto sandwich with the side caesar salad, and probably the BEST sandwich in all of Boise. I recently became vegan, and I can tell you I am sick of the only options being fries (maybe, Buffalo wild wings fries everything in beef shortening so watch out) and hummus! To be perfectly frank, I was not prepared for High Note's deliciousness. I walked into this small, dimly lit, pub looking place and thought: uh-oh...I hope they have decent pub food at least. Then I see in large writing on the wall: No microwaves! And, I think...ok...maybe this won't be so bad... And, then I get their menu. Whoa...these sandwiches sound fan-bleeping-tastic! Everything is made in house including the bread they use. Seriously?!? I'm a big fan of their turkey melt (sublime). And, I also deeply dig their Caprese Grilled Cheese. To top it off, your choice for sides with your sammy aren't limited to the usual soup or salad. You can get soup (they have a coconut tomato basil that rocks my socks), salad, coleslaw, Pico de Gallo with tortilla chips, black bean puree with tortilla chips, potato salad, or hummus and veggies. If you are at all a fan of hummus, by all means, my hummus loving people, get the hummus! It's made in house and is absolutely spot on perfect. When I ran out of veggies to dip in it, but still had a skosh left, I may or may not have scooped it out with my dining companions soup spoon and ate it like that. (don't judge...you don't know...it was really that good!) The service is a bit slow as is to be expected with food so carefully prepared. If you happen to be a fan of ginger beer, they have a great one. I don't remember the brand, but definitely all effervescent gingery goodness. Oh! And, you can also opt to have your sammy made with gluten free bread (for a couple dollars extra). So, go hit that High Note people! Get to it! read more

There's not a lot of hippie food options in Boise any more. With Whole Foods uppity-ing up the town, the Boise Co-Op gettin' all fancy, and sheesh, even Lisa Peterson who made a name for the Co-Op deli, upscaled into the shishisphere with A'Tavola. Well enter High Note to uphold the homemade humus and chunky bread culture. The from-scratch menu usually has a special that entices. The Italian baked pastas are excellent. As a yard-stick to measure a restaurant, I usually order the Reuben to test things out. While High Note's bread has a nice crumb, the lack of marble rye is a swing and a miss. Homemade marble rye would be stellar, in my book of Reuben scouting. The corned beef was a little tough. Maybe a longer cooking process would help this. The dressing was a little too mayo-y. Maybe it is homemade too? I dunno, Hellmann's is perfect. Why try to beat it? But the cheese, the cheese was perfect. The one man show the last time I was there somehow managed to do it all. It wasn't busy, but I can't imagine a typical downtown lunch crowd with only one dude taking care of everything. There are music performances in the evenings, or at least karaoke going on. The characters remind me of the old Koffee Klatsch. The High Note is a comfortable place to hang and enjoy a homemade meal, like you are at someone's house. read more

This was our first time ordering food at High Note and all I can say is we will be back. They are doing a very good job with their vegan options. Very flavorful and large portions. I had the breakfast sandwich with a side of potatoes .... delicious. My husband ordered the pesto sandwich with a side of tomato basil soup .... excellent! During Covid they are only accepting cash for payment and they make sure you are aware of that when you are placing your order. Very nice staff, we will definitely be going back. read more

Love to support strictly vegan restaurants and High Note is one of the best. Went here for brunch during the week and it was phenomenal. Had the High Note Scramble w/potatoes and it was everything I wanted. The seasonings were out of this world and it was as fresh as could be. Generous portions as well. Walked by this place many times and finally decided to try it out. The inside had lots of art and music playing. Ordered the Mediterranean salad and tacos. It took a while to actually get, 20 mins, and there were only two other tables that had already received their food. The tacos were pretty good, but the salad was nothing special. I maybe picky when it comes to salad but I do not like it when I have to chop and mix my own salad. The veggies were cut large and we're all on the edge of the salad. Which meant I had to chop them into bite size pieces and mix it all together. Came here for taco Tuesday. $1 street tacos. I ordered two chicken and two pork, they came with pico de gallo, avocado salsa, lime, and some crumbled queso fresco on top. The queso was an interesting twist, the saltiness went well with the tanginess of the lime. Unfortunately they were very small, I had to order two more to get marginally full. I love what this place stands for and the giant leap of faith they took in going cruelty free! That said, I think constructive criticism is necessary to make this restaurant as successful as possible. I was extremely excited to come here on a stop in Boise. The reviews were almost perfect. My son and K ordered the hummus plate, grilled cheese, and bruschetta grilled cheese. The hummus was delicious! Seriously one of the best I've had. The big bummer is that the veggies that came with it did not seem fresh. The celery in particular was brown and wilting. The pita was okay. I was really disappointed in the quality of the veggies after hearing so much about fresh and local. I would love to see the hummus platter include some additional,fresh veggies and more interesting "dippers". Regular grilled cheese was rad. Bruschetta grilled cheese tasted great but was extremely soggy and nearly impossible to eat. Maybe experiment with other cheese products or cooking times/methods because the shredded mozzarella did not melt at all, not even a little, and coupled with the slippery tomatoes made the whole deal a slippery mess that fell all over the place. The bread on both sandwiches was fantastic! I'd love to see a BLT with tempeh or zucchini bacon next time I'm in the area,and hopefully the little kinks will be worked out by then. read more

Reading all the reviews we had to give this place a try. Ordered the Gyro (with tomato basil soup) and Rosemary Sandwich (with African spinach soup). The soups and the gyro were great. Also tried the raspberry lemonade. It was great to see a restaurant taking the right precautions and only doing take out unlike many other places that have started indoor dining. However would suggest to introduce card transactions to be even more safer. read more

We came in on a Friday night with our 2 year old and had an amazing experience! The service was a bit slow but there was only one server so I understood. She did suggest a baby plate for our son and munched on oranges and pieces of our meals as well. The food was insanely fresh. I got a gyro! The seitan was perfect in this dish. My partner had a habanero quesadilla. He said it was one of the best he's ever had. We got dessert! Apple crumble cake and a mixed fruit pie. So delicious! There was also live music that wasn't too loud or too distracting, which is important since the High Note is a bit small. We loved it. And we will be returning. read more

I don't have any complaints. We loved high note. The food was very fresh and incredible quality. If you choose a salad I am sure you cannot go wrong but I loved the high note house salad with the citrus cilantro vinaigrette. Good portion, not to big or small. Wonderful place to find a vegan breakfast! My husband, brother in law, and myself all loved our dishes. We got the potato scramble, build your own scramble with mushroom/pepper Jack "cheese"/spinach/and salsa, and the breakfast burrito. All perfectly seasoned and served hot! Absolutely horrific customer service. They we're very rude to us upon entry. After we found masks to walk two feet to our table, the lady behind the bar left us standing at the door so she could finish inputting receipts. The waitress then told us it would be a 40 minute wait when there was clearly 4 open tables available and no other people waiting to be seated. We went for brunch on a Saturday. The small outside eating area is great. Inside is pretty dark. The menu is now all vegan, and we loved it. My husband had pancakes, which came with syrup and a little strawberry rhubarb compote. I had a torta breakfast sandwich and it was excellent and very filling. We will be back. read more

I'm all about their Tuesday Tacos, but the past few visits here have been pretty disappointing. The tomato basil soup contained so much cream that it would have been better as a pasta sauce, while forgetting to ask for my dressing on the side, the Caesar salad came overly drenched. Too much mayo and over-buttered bread...this "light" lunch left me realizing that there are much better ways to spend $20 in Boise. read more

This place is fantastic ! Have gone 3 times in a month ! I cannot get enough ! Every time a friend suggests dinner I meet them at high note cafe . And i ordered a to go meal for my husband and he was mindblown how tasty it all was. Especially the vegan cheese cool atmosphere super friendly staff . The only thing i would say was one night when a musician played it was a bit loud . my friend and I couldnt hear each other talk . maybe have the musicians play outside on the patio? Found this place on HappyCow on day 1 of a road trip from Portland to PA. I ordered a grilled cheese (add mushrooms) and a side of tomato soup. It may have been the best vegan grilled cheese I've ever had (and I've had a few)! The bread and cheese were both homemade and absolutely delightful. Loved the soup too, very flavorful. My partner ordered the gyro with a side of bean dip and he was very happy with his choices. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. I'd totally hang out here for karaoke night if i lived in Boise. The only thing I didn't care for was that they put ice in the kombucha, which to me is like putting ice in beer... so if you order a kombucha you may want to ask them to hold the ice. read more

This is a small hidden gem downtown on 5th street. I have been several times now and have enjoyed everything I have ordered. The service is friendly and quick, the atmosphere is very relaxed and calm, and the food is always delicious. I highly recommend going here during lunch time. It is less busy than other places, and has lots of great specials. They have great grilled cheese and soup, all of their sandwiches are tasty. If you like street tacos, they are definitely worth a try! If you really like tacos, go there on Tuesday, where you can get a street taco for a dollar all day! Four dollars, for four tacos! Definitely a great deal for lunch. If you cannot make it there for lunch, worry not, because they very frequently have live music there in the evenings! Stopped in at noon for brunch on a Saturday. I was expecting a packed house given the bicycle event that was in Boise on Saturday but there was only one other table. Quickly realized that this is family owned and operated business. Everything is made fresh. They literally do not have a freezer. I believe everything is cooked on a large flat hot plate which is why it may take a while to get your food but it is worth the wait. I ordered the pico scramble. Delicious and everything I was hoping for. I wish restaurants like the High Note existed in Seattle. Simple food made well - nothing over the top and out of this world with prices to match. Only complaint is there seems to be no air conditioning in the space so it was quite hot inside given the 100+ temps outside. Beer and wine only but they can do mimosas. read more

Driving back to Salt Lake from Seattle today, needed somewhere to stop in Boise to take a break and get a bite to eat. My review may be biased after having some amazing food at amazing places in Portland and Seattle the last 10 days, so there's that. This place is TINY. They have no business being a restaurant at this location?! There really looked to be no place to cook any food. Also, it is tiny, and there was hardly anyone there when we were, so were heard every conversation by the employees. Didn't really want to! Food took forever to come out. Again, too small for actual production. Food was good, but portions were not. My sandwich was really big, and my salad was overdressed. But it all tasted really good. My daughter had eggs, just eggs and toast. For about 10$ you could add potatoes. The boyfriend had the breakfast tacos, 5 very-mini tacos with egg and tomato. It just seemed kind of silly. When we got there at 12:30, there were only 2 employees, 3-4 tables. The place is open 11a-3p on Sunday. The whole hour we were there, not more than 3-4 tables were seated. 30 minutes to get food. When we left there were 3 employees, and they all just seemed to be screwing around and talking to each other. I don't think they really know what they are doing, or are at all that interested. And why open 4 hours on Sunday? Weird. The server was indeed nice, but all of them were just unprofessional. I would not go back, even though the food was good. It just all seemed very bizarre.
