While on a long drive from Seattle to Salt Lake City, I searched the Internet for the best Vegan Restaurant in Boise, ID. The High note Cafe came up on top of the list, so I pasted it in my GPS and trucked off the freeway. 10 minutes out of my way, but worth every minutes. A few minutes past the scheduled end-of-brunch, they said "no worries, Come on in, and sit wherever you like!" Friendly greetings, and smiling faces, and a breath of fresh air. Not only am I Vegan, but very picky eater as well - Not to worry they said. They were eager to make my meal perfect for me. I ordered the "High Note Scramble" with the exact items I wanted in it, and it was absolutely perfect. Everything made fresh to order - takes a little longer than the typical fast food garbage, but you expect to wait longer for good tasty healthy food. There were several other items on the menu that looked fantastic, so I will definitely return to the High Note the next time I am anywhere near Boise. You don't have to be a Vegan to eat a healthy Vegan meal. Try it out, your body will thank you. read more

This is a vegan restaurant. I'm not a vegan and ended up here on a quest to check out somewhere I had not been before. All things considered, the food was decent, certainly not a substitute for meat... but certainly edible. Service was fairly slow, there was only one table when we went in and the place filled up after. Cute little eatery, very small and not overly well lit. We ordered four different plates for our family and enjoyed them all -- even though we aren't vegan! The staff is super sweet, knowledgeable, and friendly. If you are looking for classy, dress up kinda place-this absolutely isn't it. It is however, a little divey, hidden gem with delicious food! After the a friend and I had gone on Preservation Idaho's "Walk About Boise" walk, we decided we'd go somewhere for lunch we had both never been. Service was lovely (think her name was Andrea!) Just positive, fun-loving and able to actually talk about the menu. A little slow but it was a busy afternoon and as now have seen in several reviews "no microwave" kinda implies, they're doing it a bit slower..and after I received my food, I decided that it was well worth a few extra minutes! The salad was ASSEMBLED, not thrown together. ..with cucumbers, shaved parm, veggies & home made little "baby" croutons (a pet peave of mine is too large crutons scratching up roof of my mouth since they rarely cut in half without making a mess!) all of these in their pretty little place on the salad. .suprise #1! Suprise #2 was the home made bread. .lightly grilled ( not too crunchy) but all the cheese was melted perfectly on my Caprese Grilled Cheese. Yum yum yum-don't know if that is ENOUGH Yums-it all was just delicious! Actually enough basil to really taste it too! Friend had the BLT + avocado. We decided to split sandwhiches..I was kinda regretting it as savoring my Caprese...but so happy we did after trying it! My fave sandwich is a BLAST, (BLT + avocado + swiss) so have eaten plenty of that type, but the bacon was perfect (not deep fried) and that homemade bread-YUM again! In fact I'm going to ask next time for the Caprese with bacon...maybe my new fave! Eric the cook was definitely busy but smiled from the open line. .they were both genuinely nice & pleasant..the decor kinda funky, not ultra clean but all a pleasant surprise. Weird ambiance with disturbing art on the walls. Service was good. Sandwich was just kinda sad, there just wasn't much on the sandwich. Felt like it was mainly just bread... and bland in flavor. Spent 44 bucks and left hungry. Let me describe my sandwich in more detail. Thick slices of bread, very thin layer of pesto. One sliver of a roasted red pepper. A very thin slice of tomato. Disappointed. Although the flavors were great in everything, the mushrooms in my sandwich were hard as gristle and couldn't be eaten. My lunch cost me nearly $30 for just me, and a good chunk was inedible. I was stoked for some amazing vegan eats but not sure if I'll go back. Bummed. read more

84th Review of High Note, Downtown Boise. This is my 379th Yelp Review. Happy Hour-- Monday - Friday 4-6 PM. $1 off local beer, wine by the glass and special mimosas! Select $5 appetizers: Bruschetta or Hummus served with HIgh Note Toast or Chips & Dip-- Happy Hour could use some work, IMO. Wow, what a great place! I've had it on my bookmarks now for well over a year. Not sure why I hadn't visited here before. I'm downtown a lot, but since it's tucked on a side street, I've just not noticed it. Walking in it isn't much-- just a small room, bright yet old colors on the wall, local artwork, hippy vibe, with a bar area, small amount of seating, and a relaxed albeit modern feel to it. $1 mimosas (first two) on Sundays. They have four flavors. We had the pineapple and cucumber. Everything here is fresh! They don't have microwaves, and even hand wash the dishes. We had some super good food! We shared a Caesar salad (average... it's lettuce!) and breakfast avocado taco-- AMAZING! A++ Here you can get homemade dessert, too. They oftentimes have live music, poets club, and $1 Taco Tuesdays! All-in-all, the food was good, the service was good, chill/relaxed environment, and a good weekend brunch menu (select items on Sunday only). I recommed you try it! Everything is Vegan. There's also a little patio seating for a nice outdoor breakfast or lunch : ). Everything we ordered was SO GOOD! breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos, and a two stack of hot cakes. The hot cakes came with homemade jam which was to die for and the homemade sauces and salsas on the tacos and burritos made the dish perfect. Though I am not vegan myself, I have frequented this spot with my vegan friends. Most recently, I got the habanero cream sandwich with mushrooms, and it's one of the best sandwiches I've had to date. It's creamy and delicious with great texture and thick, perfectly toasted bread. As a lover of dairy and meat, I can confidently say that this sandwich was every bit as satisfying as its non-vegan counterparts. My sister and I specifically chose to go here while downtown because it was vegan and we'd never been here before. We thought, great! New place, new food, let's go support them and try something new that is also vegan. That was not our experience, however, and I would absolutely NOT recommend dining here with the staff's current approach to customer service. It was shockingly appalling. We walked in and waited to be seated. Immediately, we were told we needed to wear a mask upon entry. That was a bummer because I didn't have one, so I stepped outside while my sister found hers. While we were stepping outside, the server asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside, as outside didn't require a mask. I stated, "we can't sit outside as we just got facials and cannot be in the sun." While we were sorting out the mask situation, I elected to pull my shirt over my nose and mouth since we would be seated immediately at one of the open tables only a couple feet away. A very kind patron walked up and said she had an extra, unused mask and offered it to me. In that time another worker, a pregnant woman, walked up to greet us. As I accepted the new mask and put it on, I said, "sure, thank you" and continued talking to my sister saying, "but now I'm accepting a mask from a stranger that will definitely increase risk instead of preventing spread." The pregnant lady looked at us with dead eyes and inserted a long pause while she clearly decided whether she would be serving us or not. Keep in mind, during this time, we could have been sat at least twice already. She finally said, "let me get the server to seat you," walking away after. I turned to my sister and said, "I don't know about this place; I'm don't have a good feeling anymore." We were left standing there for another minute when the original server walked up and said, "it's going to be a 40 minute wait." This was really confusing because we had already been told twice that we would be seated immediately, once by her, and there were multiple open tables waiting for hungry customers. With a bit of shock I said, "you could have led with that." We turned to leave because we would not be waiting that long to be seated, and as we exited the pregnant worker walked out behind us saying, "Be rude and you can just never come back." Yes, I whipped around in shock and mouth agape. I was so shocked that I just had this experience in Boise, Idaho! It was clear they had chosen to lie about the wait time as the couple behind us went in without issue, so they must not need business from willing and eager customers. We've been happily eating our brunch at Wildroot, which has been incredible. Definitely go there! read more

So many yummy options, it's hard to choose! The art and atmosphere inside is awesome. The food is delicious, and their juices are fresh!

Boise's first 100% vegan restaurant. It's all vegan and it's all delicious. we drove from Salt Lake City so we went crazy with ordering. We got the grilled cheese sandwich, the pesto sandwich, Muffuletta sandwich, the chili, the bean dip, the Caesar salad, beer, wine, Mimosa, and soda. It was all amazing and presented beautifully. My favorite sandwich was the pesto and my fave side was the bean dip with chips. They have some outdoor seating as well, which we took advantage of since the weather was nice. Fast and friendly service round out this wonderful five star experience. My only wish is that I lived in Idaho so I could go here all the time. read more

I stopped in at 11:30 am on a Sunday. There was a group of 4 and another 1 on the patio in front, and 2 couples inside. The lone server was working as fast as possible, but two table were still not bussed. 10 minutes to get coffee. Then 5 minutes later server returned to explain they were waiting to take my order until tickets cleared on the overwhelmed cook. (The Sunday brunch menu has maybe 6 items.) They said, 20-25 minutes" was the guess. For 9 people in the restaurant, just to take the order. I said I didn't want to add to the stress so I'd try another time. I took out my wallet and asked how much I owed for the coffee, and without missing a beat, server said "2 bucks will be enough." Really? I waited 4 minutes for it to cool. I'm thinking the High Note is Low on Finances. I left my $2 and left. I've got to rate this as the most expensive place in town. $1 for every sip of coffee. It's also the first time ever - ever - I haven't left a tip. Maybe this was a bad day. It didn't look like it, but cmon,9 customers on a Sunday morning is a stress test situation? read more

Came back again and this time it wasn't that good. Had the soup, salad and bread. The kale Caesar just tasted a little kale-y. It needed more dressing for sure. The toasted bread was good as always. People not used to gluten free bread (that's what I got) might find it a little gummy but I liked it quite a bit. The cream of mushroom soup had lots of mushrooms in it. After awhile I was little overwhelmed by the texture of so many mushrooms. The soup was kind of sweet like their tomato soup so I think they use coconut milk in this one too. It was just ok. Service was fine. No complaints. I ended up spending $20 after tip for soup, salad and bread. The prices are definitely too high but almost anywhere you eat these days this is the case. read more

I was unaware that this restaurant is fully vegan. Could be my lack of investigating but I did not see this explicitly advertised anywhere. Also the price is more on the steep end, definitely not the 1 $ you see on apple maps. I ordered a gyro and 2 lemonades. Before tip the total was $33 with they gyro being $17 of that. To be perfectly frank, I was not prepared for High Note's deliciousness. I walked into this small, dimly lit, pub looking place and thought: uh-oh...I hope they have decent pub food at least. Then I see in large writing on the wall: No microwaves! And, I think...ok...maybe this won't be so bad... And, then I get their menu. Whoa...these sandwiches sound fan-bleeping-tastic! Everything is made in house including the bread they use. Seriously?!? I'm a big fan of their turkey melt (sublime). And, I also deeply dig their Caprese Grilled Cheese. To top it off, your choice for sides with your sammy aren't limited to the usual soup or salad. You can get soup (they have a coconut tomato basil that rocks my socks), salad, coleslaw, Pico de Gallo with tortilla chips, black bean puree with tortilla chips, potato salad, or hummus and veggies. If you are at all a fan of hummus, by all means, my hummus loving people, get the hummus! It's made in house and is absolutely spot on perfect. When I ran out of veggies to dip in it, but still had a skosh left, I may or may not have scooped it out with my dining companions soup spoon and ate it like that. (don't judge...you don't know...it was really that good!) The service is a bit slow as is to be expected with food so carefully prepared. If you happen to be a fan of ginger beer, they have a great one. I don't remember the brand, but definitely all effervescent gingery goodness. Oh! There's not a lot of hippie food options in Boise any more. With Whole Foods uppity-ing up the town, the Boise Co-Op gettin' all fancy, and sheesh, even Lisa Peterson who made a name for the Co-Op deli, upscaled into the shishisphere with A'Tavola. Well enter High Note to uphold the homemade humus and chunky bread culture. The from-scratch menu usually has a special that entices. The Italian baked pastas are excellent. As a yard-stick to measure a restaurant, I usually order the Reuben to test things out. While High Note's bread has a nice crumb, the lack of marble rye is a swing and a miss. Homemade marble rye would be stellar, in my book of Reuben scouting. The corned beef was a little tough. Maybe a longer cooking process would help this. The dressing was a little too mayo-y. Maybe it is homemade too? I dunno, Hellmann's is perfect. Why try to beat it? But the cheese, the cheese was perfect. The one man show the last time I was there somehow managed to do it all. It wasn't busy, but I can't imagine a typical downtown lunch crowd with only one dude taking care of everything. There are music performances in the evenings, or at least karaoke going on. The characters remind me of the old Koffee Klatsch. The High Note is a comfortable place to hang and enjoy a homemade meal, like you are at someone's house. read more

She was personable, gave great recommendations, touched the table every time around, was busy and still cared to talk and explain their philosophy and just chit chat. She was GREAT!!! We went here a few years ago and I'm pretty sure it wasn't vegan, and, at the time, I do remember liking the place. Fast forward today... We decided to go downtown Boise to find a particular sandwich place we wanted to try but couldn't remember the name. Long story and not worth going into details, we ended up at High Note. Like I said I don't remember it being strictly vegan a few years back. We also didn't know this until we were seated at our table. They were just serving brunch items too, not sandwiches. Well the only thing that sounded good to me on the menu was the pancakes, which was something I didn't really want but it would of been rude of us to walk in, sit down, then leave. We were kind of stuck and needed to make the best of the situation. As you can tell from this review, neither myself or my husband are vegans. That being said, the pancakes were pretty good. Not amazing but good. My husband ordered some tofu scramble thing, which I took a bit of and it wasn't bad either. Flavor was good but the texture of the tofu eggs was, for me, just okay. All and all the food was pretty good. The service was friendly, however, the wait time was very long: took them about 45 mins for our food to come out. I'm kind of bummed it went all vegan because our first experience was really good. I think I got a turkey sandwich or something and what I remember was their homemade bread was amazing.
