Amuse bouche
Julia H.

Came back to try their new menu. Parking is still hard to find even if you get there at 5pm. The menu price has gone up done January this year but the food I'm was still good. 1. Amuse bouche: all 3 dishes were on point. 2. Kanpachi crudo: orange yuzu sauce goes well with the crudo 3. Cannonball Cabbage: flavors reminded me of a caesar salad which isn't a bad thing 4. Local Abalone: the abalone didn't have as much flavor compared to last timne 5. Diver Scallop: a repeat from last time but a great dish 6. King Salmon: the skin on the salmon was a bit too salty 7. House cultured yogurt: no complaints 8. Hemp seed tuile chocolate cremeux: choclate tasted good but was hoping for something a bit more interesting in flavor. Overall 4.25. A few dishes weren't as great and the price is a little higher which is understandable with today's economy. Would like to come back again and see how the menu changes in the fall.

The house for the restaurant made for a unique, warm, and inviting experience! The tasting menu they offer is pescatarian only and we loved every dish!! The dishes were elevated but still hearty and left me stuffed. We didn't try the wine pairing but they have a small collection of well curated wine list that fit their farm to table food menu. My favorite was the 3 amuse bouche at the start: the uni, the tart, and squash blossom salad in a bite (actually have no idea what that was but it was AMAZING and would petition for a bouquet of those). Also the dessert: a balance of sweet, salty, umami, and freshness melted together with that sesame toast on top of the chocolatey goodness with a hint a citrus. Yum!!! The service was just as warm and matched the ambiance of being welcomed in a familiar, reminiscent summer beach home.

I first came here when I was in Long Beach for work a few years ago and I loved the entire experience. Fast forward to a conference I was attending in Anaheim with my family. When I heard Heritage had received a Michelin star, I jumped at the chance to take my family. They all loved it and it was a hit from start to finish. It is definitely won't it to hear reservation. The best part, everyone on staff is truly friendly, helpful and attentive. The dining room is a little bit dark. It's a small price to pay for the amazing food from tonight's dinner. The flavors continue to be creative, inventive, and unforgettable. I never thought I'd ever enjoy passion fruit and crudo together, but I'm a fan! The sea urchin toast intimidated me but was actually a perfect little bite. And dessert was a work of art.

Celebrated my daughter's birthday dinner and the whole staff was lovely. The restaurant is on the smaller side but cute. The food was solid, some bites were full of flavor and tastier than others like the first bites and scallop and some were just ok like the beef. Dessert was also just ok. Definitely worth a try at least once.

Came in to celebrate a birthday. Parking is not easy to find, so show up at least a few minutes early. We were let in to our kitchen counter seats at the reserved time. And the tasting experience began. First up was a trio of "first bites"--the Sea Urchin Crostata was an explosion of flavor, one of my favorite bites of the night. Also up were a chunk of pickled pineapple and a lobster gougere. This was followed by some seafood courses: Wild Kampachi with passion fruit, jicama, and house yogurt--very much like you would get at a good sushi restaurant. Then, Abalone Rice... I'm not a fan of abalone usually, but the wild rice by itself made this dish great and "Live Scallop in Shell", with a smoked trout roe that took this to the next level. Finally, Line-Caught Black Cod. The lobster bisque that served as a sauce could have been its own dish, and would have been one of the best of the night. Finally, the "main" of the night, Aged Duck & Smoked Leg: a perfectly cooked duck breast, accompanied by duck leg confit. The persimmon was a genius accompaniment and made this dish the overall star. They finished the meal with a trio of deserts: a sunchoke ice cream with honeycomb, carrot cake with candied walnuts, and a final two bites of pate de fruit and a chocolate bonbon. We left not overstuffed but still satisfied.

The food was very good! Each dish felt light yet complex, which I really enjoyed. The vibe is intimate, and from the outside the restaurant almost looks like someone's home, which adds to the charm. That said, for a $175 meal, I did leave feeling a bit hungry, and I'm not someone who usually eats a lot. The portions are on the smaller side, which I didn't mind, but I think one additional dish, or a more carb-forward course (we didn't have one), would have made the meal feel more satisfying overall. Service-wise, the pacing felt uneven. There were noticeable pauses between dishes. Given the Michelin star, I was expecting better timing. Note: Definitely plan to arrive early for parking. There's no valet, and street parking in this part of Long Beach is very difficult to find.

After long await, we finally decided to splurge on Heritage. Heritage is a no doubt a highly talented kitchen, but for a Michelin starred restaurant, the experience did not justify the price. The food was generally well executed, though several dishes were overly salty. Portions were extremely small throughout the meal. Many plates were literally the size of a quarter. The main course was especially disappointing, consisting of a single slice of duck breast. Yes, a single slice. Dessert followed the same pattern with a very small chocolate bite and another tiny fruit bite. It did not feel like a proper finale. The lighting was dark and intimate, which I appreciated, but the dining room itself was cramped and loud. Instead of feeling private, it felt like sitting closely packed with other diners. There was no live music, though the playlist was good. Presentation was inconsistent, particularly early in the meal. With portions this small, stronger presentation would have helped elevate the experience. Pacing also declined toward the end of the dinner, with noticeable delays, which disrupted the flow. Overall, while there were aspects to enjoy, the combination of tiny portions, uneven pacing, and crowded atmosphere made the experience not worth the cost.

Came here for my birthday and had a really great time! We opted to sit at the bar and were able to watch the open kitchen work. We even got to speak to some of the chefs working, which added to the experience. Now the food: the menu looked promising but the first few courses were not exciting. Flavors were confusing, some weren't punchy enough, others over seasoned, and yet some just didn't go together. We were getting a bit worried until we arrived at the middle of the menu and the dishes were homeruns! My favorites were the proteins: scallops and duck. Both were expertly cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The desserts weren't mind blowing but tasty and ended the dinner on a good bite. I would definitely return at a different season to try a different menu and see what they have to offer.

The best scallops in my life

Amazing! Our whole experience was just amazing. My wife and I went for our anniversary and we were blown away by the food and service. We weren't sure what to expect, other than the street parking, but the vibe was just so laid back, with a touch of class. No pretension at all and it was just amazing.

July 5, 2025 was our second time at Heritage. We decided to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. Since our first dinner here a year ago was so lovely, we were eager to return! Marissa and the rest of the staff were attentive and friendly throughout the night. We were impressed with each course and kept talking about our favorites long after dinner was over. I really enjoyed the wine pairing in our first dining. They have many NA options too for those avoiding alcohol. Heritage has a cozy, intimate vibe overall and it's no surprise many others were celebrating there too. If you haven't experienced Long Beach's 1st Michelin Starred restaurant, don't wait!

Updating review since my last visit was when Heritage first opened and prior to earning their Michelin star. They have truly elevated and refined their service and execution of dishes. With just four seats at the counter and six tables in the dining room, guests still get the warm home hospitality feel in an intimate setting. Their tastings are now set at $160 per person, which comes with 12 thoughtfully curated bites of umami, textures and variety. The majority of their produce and herbs are grown in the Heritage Farm, just a mile away from the restaurant. Staying true to their zero-waste philosophy, they repurpose any excess ingredients into compost cycling back to the gardens. Sustainable dining at its finest! They respectfully do not allow substitutions, but it is understandable with their mission in mind. Summer 2025 tasting menu: Palo Santo Mint- an herbal shot to open the senses Steamed Baby Corn- loved the shaved truffle on top Box Crab- lovely pastry bite Pickled Plum- palate cleanser Slow-Cooked Farm Beets Celtuce, fennel, house yogurt Live Scallop in Shell Dashi, smoked trout roe Braised Sweetbreads- not really bread but yummy chunks of bacon with spring onion, fava bean and greens Mt. Lassen Trout Beluga lentil, herb pistou- Loved! 32-Day Dry Aged Rib Chop Delta asparagus, spring onion Crème Caviar: Heritage caviar, manzanilla oil - soooo good! Mille-feuille: Strawberry, rhubarb, pistachio Pâte de Fruit Boysenberry- like gummies :) Wine pairing is an additional $95. We opted to bring a bottle of wine for a $40 cork fee. Valet is $25, but you might be able to find street parking on 7th Street. Incredible experience and so happy to have this gem in Long Beach!

Loved the entire meal and experience! Our server was very knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine pairings. A very comfortable environment with zero pretense. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first Michelin Star restaurant visit but it was great! The open kitchen made the bar and front room seating a little warm, kind of like eating in your kitchen with the yummy smells as well. I am a big Food HD watcher and I enjoyed watching the preparation. The menu was superb and the wine pairing was outstanding! Cost was $650 for two of us, one with wine pairing and one without. Honestly, it was well worth it!

RSVP for 8pm.. we didn't leave till about 11:18pm.. Personally, I felt like service was wayyyyyy tooo slow.. chairs are super uncomfortable to be left sitting for so long... Food was great but definitely were left with an appetite after which was kinda upsetting since it was almost $200 a head without wine.. plus tip This was a one time experience for us.

Is ther3 a vegan menu or vegan options?

No. This is a chef's table menu and you eat what you're served and lucky to get a table to enjoy the food. The website also states no menu changes

Any thoughts on sitting at the chefs counter versus in the restaurant proper? Is that really an option? I see it on Open Table for this restaurant.

Yes, it’s definitely an option. There are seats at the high counter that overlook the kitchen, and you can actually see people dining there in some of the photos. It looks like a fun experience — kind of like sitting at a sushi bar, but with a full…

Is there a dress code? How fancy is the dress vibe?

There didn't seem to be a dress code. The people wore anything from dressy to casual including jeans.

Can they accommodate for a gluten allergy?

Unfortunately, no. It's prix fixe with no substitutions.

How much is a dinner for 2?

$150/person...$75 each extra if you do wine pairing. Plus whatever you decide for drinks and special add ons

Can I bring my own wine and what is the corkage fee? Thanks.

Read it is $40 corkage fee

Is it hard to find parking for this restaurant?…

Not really! I found street parking pretty easy and now they have valet as well

What's the cancellation policy for reservations?

There is a 25.00 charge per guest if reservations are cancelled less than 24 hours before the reservation time.

What can they do for a vegan for 120$?

They do not make any menu changes. It's a set menu take it or leave it.

Is there a full bar?

No bar.

Are kids allowed?

This typically wouldn't be a place you'd bring kids to because the menu is set and can't be changed. Unless your kid has a seasoned pallet it might be better to have a grown up night out. You won't regret not bringing your kids here. It's so…

Are they still doing sandwiches in the afternoon?

No. Only open for dinner.

Is this place kid friendly?

Not really. The menu is pretty sophisticated and the restaurant is small.

Lunch hours terminated permanently, so it's dinner only now?

Yes. Just dinner now.

Is the duck confit sandwich a permanent menu item?

Can you Byo wine and if so is there a corkage fee?

Yes and it's $40 corkage.

I've been here 10 or so times and I have never reviewed. However, as a Long Beach food lover and…read moresupporter I'd be doing a disservice not saying that this is just not the place to eat in Long Beach. There is metered street parking and it's not too hard to find a spot. The decor is also beautiful and it's a wonderful ambiance with consistent GREAT service. On the real real- I am disappointed in the food. Each time. Every time I've been here I actually don't eat the food beyond a bite or tie because it's just not good. However, I will say if you are looking for a cute place to people watch on second street and grab a cocktail then this is perfect. I've tried over half of the menu and I've never been impressed with anything. I never can even get past one or two bites. I kept going back to give them another shot, but at this point, I've decided I can't recommend anyone to eat here, especially for the price point. This last visit I had an amazing bartender and preserved a poke bowl, ceviche, and shrimp cocktail. None were good and I can't even call them satisfactory. I had two bites of the poke and it was bland, boring, and actually tasted bad. Same with the shrimp. The ceviche was also off and my friend and I left full plates and no questions were asked as to why and if we liked the food. We didn't. Very cute place, friendly servers. Mediocre at best food, and very expensive. This 11th chance leaving disappointed (and hungry) was the last chance. I tried.

If you're looking for a spot with great atmosphere, a trendy vibe, and beautiful décor, this is definitely it. My favorite time to go is on the weekends for breakfast. I think they have some of the best breakfast options you'll find on 2nd Street. It's definitely a trendy, people-watching kind of place where you can enjoy the scene as much as the food. It's centrally located right in the heart of 2nd Street, directly across from Nick's. Between the stylish décor, lively atmosphere, and great location, it's just one of those places that has a really fun vibe.

I've been here a handful of times and I might be done. I wouldn't argue that the food is mediocre,…read morebut it's not great either. I've gotten fish and chips a bunch of times; sometimes the fish great--but sometimes it is slightly under-fried. Today I tried their fried chicken sandwich and it was not great. The menu described the sandwiches coming with pickled vegetables, but it was very plain. The brioche bun was great, but it's not the selling point. The fries oddly also always come with a teaspoon of ketchup. My biggest gripe is the service. I stopped by to have lunch with my mom. I ordered a soda before we placed our food order. While we looked over the menu, I took a few sips of the soda and finished it. My mom drank her water, and finished it. The server came back and took the order, the drinks were empty and never refilled. Whatever, NBD. However, 10 more minutes passed and I flagged down a different server and asked for a refill. (My server had disappeared). The food came out eventually, my drink was nearly empty again--no refill. The runner asked if I needed anything else after setting the food down and I again asked if I could grab a refill (the server still has not come back to the table). I looked around and he was chatting it up with a bartender leaning against the wall and giggling. Super annoying-- I'm glad the culture here means that the employees are friends and can talk and joke around. I don't need constant engagement, but you can't let drinks stay empty for lengthy periods of time. Half way done with the food, we still had empty drinks. Server never came back, runner never came back. Finished the food and sat for ten mins. Flagged down yet again another server and asked for the check. My server made his was over with the check--tips START at 25%, then 23%, then 20% Our lunch was about $70 (without the tip). This isn't McDonald's. The food was meh and the service was terrible. The cost did not make me feel like there was any value given the lack of attentiveness and quality of the meal.
