Their butter + bread is the reason why I'm leaving a review. The butter is soooo good! I had a cocktail as well, I can't remember the name, but it was made well. Service was great as well!

Cocktails were syrup-y (2/5 stars) but the cauliflower steak (5/5 stars) was phenomenal, and I say that as a foodie! It wasn't life changing but I was genuinely very impressed, and I'd recommend this dish highly. That being said, a few of my coworkers ordered salads that didn't look amazing (burnt croutons, slightly droopy lettuce), so I'm inclined to give this restaurant a 3.5/5 and I'm rounding up because their overall rating is so low right now. Servers seemed overworked and therefore were inattentive and disengaged.

I think the bartender was new... the martini was terrible and served in a plastic cup?? I heard them saying something about how the night before they ran out of glassware, but there's a ton of glassware on the bar in front of me, so I don't understand what's going on. The French fries were good though!

I come here for the mussels and conversation. For whatever reason, my arrival is never during a busy time at the bar, where I go directly. Tonight, there was a young woman learning some basic drink mixing, which I enjoyed watching. I'm never in a hurry here, and I start out with some variety of martini, knowing that I'll be transitioning to wine and mussels. The staff was engaging, and they always grant me extra bread to soak up the garlic butter nectar. Let me also note, before the mussels, I had a half dozen raw oysters, and those were the BIGGEST damn oysters I've ever had. So much yum. Someday I might have something else here. But I doubt it.

Amazing food and a very cozy atmosphere. You feel as if you were back a few decades at a pub!

I give this place five stars based on the food and service. We entered o December 31st to a birthday gathering and saw a small group of about six siting at two small tables that had been placed together. As more arrived we were told we could sit in the larger room but to be aware others may come in there to eat which were not in our party. No other people outside of our group of about 35-40 people showed up so we had the whole area to ourselves. Oysters, chicken piccata, burgers, salads, etc ordered and and everything looked delicious and presented beautifully. Fried and barbecue wings were brought in on the house. The service was provided by cheerful happy faces and the wait for food was short. My only complaint is it was cold on both sides of the restaurant. I've paid more for burgers and fries that were not as delicious and less of a great service in other restaurants. Well done Henry's Bar and Grill!

The food was satisfactory, but the drinks were average. I appreciate the concept of an elegant bar without the overwhelming music and crowded spaces. However, the odors hinted at a less refined establishment - the enticing scents of mop water and numerous pairs of shoes were noticeable. The place's layout was pleasant, but it seemed to lack that extra. I see that they are making an effort. Would I consider returning? Perhaps. The server was friendly, and the place was not busy at all.

A Last-Minute Yelp Find That Delivered! Heading home from…read moreSan Francisco, we decided to stop for pasta. A last minute Yelp search led us to Creekwood in Berkeley, and luckily, I was able to secure a reservation inside. What a great find! Creekwood is in a residential neighborhood, which I love, although parking can definitely be a challenge. The exterior is architecturally pleasing, with clean lines and a fresh, modern look. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess with a huge welcome and an equally huge smile. The restaurant has a cozy bar area, outside seating, and an estimated seating capacity of 50 guests. Inside, there is a combination of banquettes and tables that can be configured to accommodate different party sizes. The interior was extremely clean, visually appealing, comfortable and inviting. The bathroom was also extremely clean. Our server Malia was personable and offered great suggestions, as did several other staff members. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and welcoming. We started with the corn chowder and burrata. The chowder arrived a little under-temperature for my liking, but the flavor was excellent. The burrata was plentiful, paired with tomatoes that were absolutely bursting with flavor. The burrata and tomatoes complemented each other beautifully, and there was just the right amount of dressing. My tablemate ordered the Margherita pizza, which arrived at the perfect temperature. Thin crust, fresh basil and great flavor it was exactly what a Margherita pizza should be. I was craving a meat based pasta with red sauce, but that wasn't on the menu. So I ordered the pappardelle with mushrooms and asked if they could prepare it with a red sauce. They were happy to accommodate me. It arrived at the perfect temperature, with beautifully cooked pasta and an orchestra of flavors. The depth and texture of the mushrooms gave me the satisfying, meaty texture I was craving. I would absolutely order this dish again! One of the highlights of our visit was meeting Greg, the owner, who was circulating throughout the restaurant and talking with his guests. We were first-timers, but clearly, many of his diners were what I like to call "repeat offenders." in the best way. Greg shared some of the history of Creekwood and explained that his goal was to create a true neighborhood restaurant and gathering place. I would say he has definitely accomplished that. He also mentioned that he is considering adding a happy hour, which would be a wonderful addition. They do have Coctails, beer and wine although I did not partake this time. Greg told us about one couple who has visited for brunch more than 149 times! Now THAT is a referral! If I lived in the neighborhood, I have no doubt I would become a repeat offender myself. Sometimes the best restaurant discoveries are the ones you make at the last minute. Creekwood was definitely a successful Yelp selection, and one I'm happy to recommend. Bravo Greg, Chef and Creekwood Family well done and we shall see you soon. GIve Creekwood a try you won't be disappointed.

It is a small restaurant with tables and several booths by the window. They also have outdoor patio service. We ordered a half dozen Point Reyes oysters on the half shell. They were very fresh. The crispy Brussels sprouts were nicely cooked. My friend ordered the black cod and I ordered the crab with pasta in white sauce. We also ordered a glass of Chardonnay and a glass of Sancerre. The black cod was delicious. I found my pasta dish a bit bland. We shared a piece of carrot cake. It was very good, moist, just sweet enough with a perfect frosting. The service was attentive. It is a very noisy restaurant. The staff was moving furniture around at the beginning. I asked to have the music lowered in volume. The room may benefit from more acoustic tiling since the noise bounced around the floor and walls.

I've been here for date nights, holiday dinners, business dinners, and countless meals with friends visiting from out of town. It's one of those rare restaurants that seems to work for just about any occasion. The service is always great, the College Avenue location is hard to beat, and I've always had good luck finding street parking nearby. The ribeye is my personal favorite and what I order more often than not. If you're coming with a group, the cheese and charcuterie plates are a great way to start. The menu is varied enough that there's always something for everyone, and I've never had a bad meal here. I was genuinely sad to hear that they'll be closing at the end of the year. Restaurants with this kind of quality, consistency, and character are increasingly rare. If you've never been, make a point of going while you still can. I'll certainly miss it once they're gone.

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. To the point - Both occasions were absolutely fantastic! The servers were constantly making sure that we were enjoying the experience, checking if the food was okay, and engage in light small talk. The customer service was definitely beyond satisfactory. Chez Panisse was an excellent dining experience from start to finish, and I can see why this restaurant has such a lasting legacy in Berkeley. We started with the Little Gem lettuce with Sweet Heart tomato vinaigrette, farro, and cucumbers. It was fresh, light, and pleasantly sweet, with a lovely balance of flavors. The eggplant pizza was another highlight - a unique take on the traditional Margherita and vegetable pizzas (forgive my ignorance; that was my interpretation!) that was surprisingly satisfying. The proteins, pork, chicken, and salmon, were all incredibly tender and savory, practically melting in your mouth. However, the real unsung heroes were the chips! Perfectly seasoned with an irresistibly crispy texture, they were simple but executed exceptionally well. And then came the chocolate. Quite literally, one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. The sweetness and bitterness were perfectly balanced, creating a rich, satisfying finish without being overwhelming. I was so impressed that I specifically asked our server to pass along my compliments to the pastry chef. That dessert alone made the meal memorable. We left with happy hearts and sufficiently full stomachs, feeling that we'd experienced something special. Chez Panisse isn't just about good food; it's about the thoughtfulness and craftsmanship behind each dish. Located a few blocks from University Avenue, parking can be a challenge so give yourself ample time to find parking. The restaurant itself has a nostalgic "classic" feel to it separated into two sections; the bottom is for the pre fixe menu while upstairs is a la carte. Their option design kitchen which you will walk past on your way to the restroom is worth a visit. We opted to the pre fixe menu which was $175 for a Thursday four course meal. The palate starter really got our palate going with a small bite consist of a toasted crouton with creme fresh and fresh fruit. Their fresh bread and butter is simply addicting; it's hot and crunchy on the outside but software and a light chew for the inside. The first appetizer course was a seared tuna with fresh vegetables. Although the seared tuna was good, the star really was the fresh vegetables and the sweet tomatoes. The mushroom risotto was very flavorful and well balanced as-is without the added parmesan cheese. The mushroom added an additional texture and flavor. Of all the dishes, the main course, the Pork was my favorite. It was cooked and sliced perfectly where the texture was closer to ham but more flavorful.. This dish was paired with fresh vegetables and peppers balancing the savory sauce. Dessert was also exceptional; they paired a passion fruit ice cream with pavlova (taste like hardened meringue) that soaked up the raspberry/blueberry sauce. Staff here are friendly and will take time to interact and educate you about the history of restaurant, it's farm to table concept or suggest various wine pairing options. Overall, $175 for a meal is not very good considering the high cost of food and labor. Because of it's ever changing menu I commend the chef for somehow able to pair the pre fixe menu so perfectly.
