I love the Henhouse cafe! The food is delicious and made to order. The portions are generous and it's a comfortable "country" environment. If you go, ask for "Molly" she is a sweetheart. Very attentive and smiles a lot. The price is average for restaurants. My only criticism is that they don't offer a "traditional" pancakes/eggs/bacon/hashbrowns breakfast combo. I was craving a classic American brekkie, so we decided to stop by and it did not disappoint. I absolutely loved the chicken fried steak and the Texas Benedict. I asked for the potatoes extra crispy, and they came out perfectly so good. My boyfriend really enjoyed his Texas Benedict as well. The combination of cornbread with carnitas was especially delicious. Everything felt hearty and satisfying exactly what you want from a great breakfast spot. We went on a Saturday morning, and it wasn't too crowded. We were seated right away, placed our order quickly, and our food arrived within about ten minutes. The service was fast and efficient. Came here before our spring training game. Staff also had baseball gear on and it was so welcoming and fun! Service was top notch servers were excellent at having small talk and being efficient and everything was perfect. Our server recommended getting the cinnamon roll as an appetizer which I appreciate because it did hold us over until our food got to us. The best dish award goes to the pulled pork sandwich although next time I will skip the fries and order hashbrowns as the side. I will be back 10/10 read more

Four of us stopped by yesterday for an early breakfast. The main draw was their infamous giant pancake we'd seen online -- but funny enough, none of us actually ordered it. At $24.99 for one pancake? Yeah... we passed. We started with the cinnamon roll as an "appetizer." Flavor-wise, it was solid, and they definitely didn't skimp on the frosting, very sweet and generous. I went with the breakfast sandwich (with sausage) and a side of breakfast potatoes. The sandwich was okay... nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. I ended up adding salt and pepper just to give it a little kick. The potatoes, though... oof. I hate to say it, but they tasted like they were cooked in motor oil. Maybe it was a new pan or some old oil, but either way, they just weren't good. Even after salt, pepper, and hot sauce, I couldn't finish them; and that's saying something because I love breakfast potatoes. Total bummer. On the bright side, the service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly, and the place itself had a cozy, homestyle vibe, like somewhere you'd stumble on up north. All in all, great people and atmosphere, but the food just missed the mark for us. Sadly, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Came here this past weekend for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. The breakfast meatloaf was so unique and so flavorful. The service was efficient and our server was really friendly. It wasn't super busy as we went really early so it made for an enjoyable environment with an ability to take the time and eat. My husband loved that Texas benedict. Henhouse cafe started as a small operation in 2010 and has grown to four locations here in AZ. They are located in Mesa, two in Gilbert, and the fourth just opened in Tempe. They have won "Best of Gilbert" awards for many years. We ate at the 3rd installment right across the road from Sloan Park in Mesa. My HH breakfast sandwich was delicious. It's a large biscuit with fried chicken, cheddar cheese, bacon, fried egg, and gravy. The kids could only eat less than half of the huge chocolate chip pancakes. These were big, but the "mom's famous pancake" we saw come out to other tables was huge! The Texas benedict was a fun twist on a favorite; carnitas on cornbread with green chile hollandaise. Everything was tasty and the farmhouse decor is cute. We all walked out full and with leftovers. They offer 10% off daily for service members and 15% on Mondays. Sat at the bar since it's noticed they had a large private group & short staffed, this would allow me quicker service & no extra walking for the staff. I had the chicken fried chicken breakfast with a biscuit and it comes with sausage gravy over the biscuit and the chicken fried chicken and oh my goodness I have to tell you the chicken fried chicken is hand breaded and was cooked perfectly and I had half crunchy and half soft potatoes, and over easy eggs absolutely delicious!! The restaurant was very clean and orderly and family oriented, which was very nice Our server was outstanding. Our drinks were always full. Our food was perfect. I just wanted pancakes and they only have two different plates of pancakes weird for a breakfast place but ok. I got the big pancake it was really good. Except they put powder sugar on it( not a fan of it, and it didn't say it on the menu). And she got the big plate of everything that's breakfast with French toast. The atmosphere was good. We really lucked out because we went the day after Christmas and there was no wait for a table. When we left an hour later, all tables were full and there were a dozen people waiting. The decor is farmhouse and very warm and friendly. Our server was attentive. There was a seasonal and regular menu, everything on the menu was a full meal, I was just looking for a side while my hungry dining partners had a big meal but there were none listed, so I got swayed by a lemon blueberry mariscone pancake. It was huge, bigger than the dinner plate it was served on. I would've preferred a much smaller pancake with more blueberries and mascarpone. I don't know anyone who would've eaten that whole thing! My family loved the Mexican Benedict, the chipotle hollindase sauce was creamy and spicy. The only problem we ran into is the Benedict were served about 15 minutes before the pancake. The Henhouse was packed but the 10-15 minute wait was worth our time. As soon as we were seated Briana was there to take our drink orders and answer questions about items on the menu. The BLT was standard fare. The Breakfast Burrito was so large our guest cut it in two for a takeout. She was quite pleased with the taste. The Lemon Blueberry Mascarpone Pancake was very HUGE (enough for 3-4 people) and there was nothing lost in the flavor. My wife's complaint was she was given a very small container of syrup for such a big pancake. There was plenty of gravy on the Biscuits and Gravy. The bacon was cooked properly but the over easy eggs were slightly undercooked. The "home fries" were an excellent side for this meal. The decor was appropriate for the Henhouse theme. The waitstaff all wore T-shirts that gave us a good laugh! "The rooster may crow...but the hen delivers" This was a fun experience and one we'll repeat the next time we're in Mesa! read more

Stepped in around 12:55 on a lunch break, servers walking around and did not greet me for a few mins even after making eye contact. I overhear a server tell another server to tell me they close at 1. I am finally greeted and am told they closed in a minute but I can sit if I wanted... lol they really did not want me there. She lets me know that during weekdays they are closed at 1 however I checked their website and Yelp before arriving, both posted hours say 2pm. Management should update website and Yelp for those of us that check restaurant information online. read more

Today we tried, for the first time, the Henhouse Café. Great food and a very friendly waitress. I ordered Mom's World Famous Pancakes. OMG. It's a 16" across 2-stack that I couldn't finish. I recommend it for 3-4 people; NOT one. Don't go solo. Others at the table ordered chicken and waffles, a breakfast sandwich and the waffle special of the day. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Just be advised it's not a budget menu. There are certainly are more expensive places, but this is not the cheapest. However, the food is worth it. The country decor is nice too. read more

ATROCIOUS SERVICE! Place was virtually EMPTY on Tuesday at high noon. Two other tables (3 top and 2 top only!). Yet it was the WORST SERVICE we've had in a long time. Shorter, older brunette with shorter pony tail (all 3 servers were brunettes with pony tails) was slow, unfriendly, surly, unhelpful, unobservant, etc. As a companion said, "she needs to find a new profession." Yep. One that is hidden away without customer interaction. Absolutely terrible. On top of that, portions are smaller now ("shrinkflation"). Also, they don't have email addresses or a "contact us" form on their website. They don't want to hear from you. They don't care what you think. This place won't make it. read more
