Our server was really good but the food was not good. I ordered a cinnamon roll; it was basically a large dinner roll dried up cinnamon and the glaze was pure watered down powdered sugar. Henhouse is a breakfast-heaven! Eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes bigger than your 3-year old. Sure, all breakfast restaurants offer the basics but Henhouse makes it all perfectly which makes it a stand-out. My family and I were lucky enough to beat the morning rush and get a table right away. The restaurant was full but our server was very attentive and on it with coffee refills and getting our food out quickly considering how busy it was. I had the French toast breakfast sandwich and loved it. It was very different and tasteful. I snuck a few bites of chicken fried steak with gravy and a bite of my nieces ginormous pancake. I was not disappointed. When we left there were tons of large groups waiting outside for a table. Loved this breakfast joint and would love to come back. Our breakfast at the Henhouse was terrible today. We have been to the Henhouse at least 4 times in the past and always enjoyed their food. Our server, Jessica was wonderful! However, the manager did not have a friendly vibe. We were not allowed to bring our own water which was fine but the way the manager informed us, she could have said it in a kinder way. It's possible she's just not a happy woman. The eggs, potatoes, biscuits, gravy all were lukewarm. The sausage was dry. The Pancake was dry and nothing like it has been in the past. It left such a bad taste in our mouths, literally. The breakfast just would not settle in the stomach for several hours. It seems to me they've had a change in cooks. When combined with the biscuit it turned into pasty gummy concrete. Not pleasant. Chicken fried steak was ok but gravy not. Potatoes tasteless. The burrito was tiny for the $14 fare. My wife thought it was dry with not a whole lot of egg, chorizo. Needed salsa or something wet. So asked for some and was charged. In all, it was pretty lousy. And some of the worst breakfast I've had West of the Mississippi. At $50 plus tip, it was a waste of money. There are lots of good places to enjoy breakfast. This is not one of them. read more

I would say this is one of the better values in the East Valley if you're going out with family for a hearty brunch (hence, the long wait for a table). Sunday breakfast at the bar seating is like witnessing a war zone. The chaos of servers rushing to make drinks, enter in orders and even the dish washers rushing to clean coffee mugs. It was awesome to see all these servers work together and help each other thru the rush. We waited about 20 minutes to get seated and were there about an hour to eat and get cashed out. If you're coming in on a Sunday, please be patient and expect a longer wait/service time. These amazing people are doing everything they can do to get you seated and fed. I heard this ridiculous guy yelling at the manager about how the host seated a couple at a table he wanted. Screaming "Do you have a mother? Do you have a grandma? Well how do you expect them to sitt outside?!" First off, the manager wasn't grown in a lab dude. Of course he has a mom & grandma. Second, it's 68 degrees out this afternoon and it's the busiest time of the day for this restaurant. Since my wife and I were headed to this part of town, I saw on Yelp this breakfast place. Our server Courtney was very courteous and took good care of us. This place was packed and we had a 15 min wait. There are no booths, just tables and chairs which were pretty close to one another. I ordered the Ham I Yam and my wife had the Chorizo Burrito. Our meals tasted pretty good. Wife enjoyed her burrito and my ham was pretty large and thick. I didn't care for the potatoes 'cause I'm a hash brown potato lover. Was excited after waking in with my boss to get a bite to eat. Place was packed. Was around 1030 am and the menu looked awesome. Had plenty of great sounding breakfast and lunch items. I went with the HH breakfast sandwich as it had an orange hen next to it which seemed to mean special, cool or awesome. Wasn't sure but sounded great. Problems started then. Not real problems. Nice servers, we had 3 check on us. It just took forever. 45 minutes till the food came, a little before this my boss was asked if would be ok not having the bun for his Sando as they had run out of brioche and he says sure. Ends up being Texas toast. Kind of greasy but not awesome. Just ok. My food was ok. Not great. Just ok. Eggs were over easy. Not over medium, which isn't a huge deal. But none the less after a long wait and a large crowd I just expected better. Much better. It was a fancy chain food type place that was dressed up to look like a homey one off place. I might go back. I might not. It's close to work. And there are plenty of options so I'll see what's what after a few months and see if it's worth another shot. read more

Awesome food! Went for breakfast at 10am on Saturday, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for two. Not bad. Had the corned beef hash, which was super fresh and came with sweet potatoes in it, which was great. My boyfriend got the green chile carnitas breakfast burrito - so so good. I'd probably get that next time I go. We also ordered a short stack of pancakes. Short is not the right word. These were essentially two pizzas stacked on top of each other. Two items requested missing from plates that we had to request again. Scrambled eggs were over cooked and rubbery. I've gone here on two dates with my kids at separate times and both times the staff got us seated quickly and they were all friendly and fun! the service is always top quality and I love the atmosphere, you can tell everyone enjoys working there! The food is good and they have these giant pancakes! Try the strawberry cheesecake French toast...it's dessert for breakfast! I have updated my review to 5 stars because the greeting we got was friendly, everything was immaculately clean and the food was delicious. Tasty combinations are offered at the Henhouse. I can't believe the size of the HUGE pancake. It's as big as a pizza and could feed a bunch of little kids! The eggs Benedict were delicious. The breakfast sandwiches were excellent. Typical breakfast fare (bacon, eggs, pancakes) were done well. Having come here for lunch a few times, the sandwiches were fantastic and the French fries PERFECTLY COOKED! The decor is pleasant and the staff are accommodating and knowledgeable. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Expect a wait during peak times, i.e. Saturday morning. You'll enjoy the food and may leave with leftovers because the portions are very generous. read more

Nothing can make up for POOR SERVICE! The host calls your name and doesn't greet you or say anything and just leads you to be seated. When we arrived to our booth, the table was sticky and waited for approx 10 minutes before female serve came to ask if we had drink orders taken. She took our orders and promptly returned with them. She was very friendly - to bad we didn't have her for the rest of our experience maybe we would have felt differently. Our server should bus tables or find a new profession. He came to the table while we were looking at our menu and leaned up against the booth. We thought because the place so busy and it's small he stopped there to let someone pass until we heard him say are you guys ready or should I hang out for bit until your ready? That was the beginning g if the end with his service. He never came back asking if we needed refills on coffee, how the meal was, only came over towards the end and wanted to know if that was an extra cup or if we needed coffee in a cup that originally had been served tea. Then while still eating comes over and says looks like your done I'll get your ticket. In addition to his he forgot items and we had to ask other servers for them. My mom and I went to this restaurant today because we had heard really good things about it and it was close to our house. We were not pleased and will not be returning... Food: my mom ordered the crab cake Benedict and I ordered a breakfast burrito with egg whites (egg whites are an additional $2.50 just FYI). The food came out very hot- which is amazing since we waited at least 20-25 minutes for it. The crab cakes were not good-they tasted very fishy leading us to think the fish wasn't very fresh. The burrito was good. Nothing too special. There were a few pieces of burnt potatoes in it that I didn't prefer but it didn't prevent me from eating it. Overall the food was just ok. Not the worst part of the restaurant. Service: We were very disappointed with the quality of service at this restaurant. They clearly don't have many expectations for their servers. When we sat at our table we waited 10 minutes before a waitress came up to us and said "what do you want to drink?" There was no hi or hello. We ordered drinks and then the lady had to come back and ask again because she forgot what our order was. We then waited another 10 minutes before she came back to take our order. She quickly took our order and was off. Because we waited so long for food, we got to observe a lot of the other staff members. Many were on their phones or eating while working. The people at the table next to us had to practically shout to get their server to come to help them at their table. In addition the restaurant was dirty- the table was sticky; there were many dirty tables that weren't cleaned until a customer asked to sit at a table; the bar had trash all over it; and there was a disgusting rag under the coffee pot that needed to be cleaned. So much so that a woman literally passed out on the table next to me. Management did not care at all. I can't imagine what other poor conditions the staff must work in. They all looked miserable. That was only what I saw in the front of the restaurant.. if they're comfortable doing that in front of customers, I can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors. I've been to other Henhouse Cafes but this one on Lindsay in Gilbert was disappointing in several ways. First, let me say the coffee was excellent, and they had flavored cream - one of my faves. The service was excellent. Our coffee cups were always full. The food came out in a hurry and it was hot. But it was, well, blah. I had the green chile skillet. The potatoes shown in the pic on their website actually have some brown on them. My looked and tasted boiled and sliced. And they were very soft, almost bordering on mush. The eggs were perfectly done. I like mine over easy and they're hard to do for some cooks. But these were super. I asked to have their sauce rather than the pico. I offered to pay extra, but they they obliged with just the exchange. And they did it happily. The skillet came with a TON of well-flavored carnitas and it was sprinkled with chiles. it was well done, and I'd give it a more stars if it wasn't for those mushy potatoes. It really took away from what could have be a 5 star meal. My partner chose the breakfast burrito. It was huge. It came with two cups of southwest sauce, but they put pico de gallo inside the burrito. There was plenty of meat but the eggs were cooked to dryness. And the burrito contained the same mushy tasteless potatoes which she pulled out. We did not eat inside because it was a nice morning, just warm enough. But apparently the flies really loved us and/or the food as they were almost unbearable. There were always at least a half dozen at the table. I don't think I can fault the cafe for that, but surely there must be something they can do to mitigate the swarms. We would have eaten inside except that it was way too loud to hear each other talk. All in all, we will give this place another shot because this might have been a bad day. But right now, 3 is all they get. read more
